Guest Reviews
- Julia (10/5): - Our first impression with the staff was unexpected! We’d just arrived to drop off our luggage and the gentleman at the front desk offered to take our luggage to the room as we were crunched for time. A cab was waiting to take us to Highclere. Our room was cozy, clean and exceptionally stocked with clean towels, tea kettle, delicious coffee and tea. Dinner was great, with plenty of beer and wine options. Breakfast was outstanding along with the cafe latte and flat white. If we ever travel to this part of England again we would certainly stay at the Bourne Valley Inn
- Michael (2/5): Disappointing state of room at Bourne Valley Inn. - Have previously stayed at Bourne Valley Inn and enjoyed it for a visit to Highclere Castle. However this trip which was again for a Highclere event was spoilt as the room was cold and damp. The bedding was similarly damp and water was running down the windows. The Management immediately agreed a full refund and tried to arrange alternative accomodation locally but it was so busy we could not even get into the car park. We went home very disappointed.
- Linda (8/5): - Friendly staff. Quiet room, good facilities, comfortable bed. Good food. Needed tidying and repainting in some areas. Too much litter lying around outside.
- Shai (8/5): - The location was great only a 10-15 drive to Andover. The property is lovely, has a really comfy, cosy feel to it. The beer garden is lovely. The staff are super friendly and I believe the manager or owner is very friendly and welcoming. Only downside was that we stayed during the heat wave and as it’s an older building there’s no air conditioning. They were kind enough to put a fan in the room but was very hot and the bathroom for very stuffy as the extractor fan wasn’t the best. Otherwise a really really lovely stay
- Julie (10/5): Gem in the countryside - Absolute gem of a find!
Beautiful Inn, friendly staff.
Great menu and the food was amazing!
Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning
- Paula (10/5): Perfect location and lodgings - Only two words of advice - stay here. The staff is super helpful, the rooms are comfy, and the setting is beautiful. Enjoyed a lovely walk on the trails leading from the Inn past farms, a pond, horses. Met the most delightful locals along the way. Clean and comfy with a delightful "pub" restaurant.
- Paul (6/5): - Handy place to stay. Great food, was told no need to book, but ended up in the function room on my own! Awful noise from some sort of fan throughout the night, handy they supplied earplugs!
- Gareth (8/5): - Very tired rooms for the price
- Tracey (6/5): - Rooms and hotel are in need of refurbishment ,room was very basic with noise heard from other rooms. Lighting in the rooms was poor very dark. Could not fault the effort from all staff and the food was excellent especially breakfast very good value for money
- Delilah (10/5): - Wonderful stay in a beautiful old inn. Very clean, comfortable, and friendly. Loved the pub and yard. Would definitely stay again!
- Barry (10/5): - The whole experience was excellent from the moment I arrived. Will definitely book again for next xmas
- Alan (6/5): Lovely place - Lovely location building is a little tired and cleanliness poor
- Adrian (8/5): Comfortable but noisy at night - Very nice hotel, comfy bed, food was great!
Great location.
Only 1 thing, there was a loud humming noise all night which kept me awake.
- Johannes (10/5): - An historic inn next to an old English thatched cottage village.
- Nicola (8/5): - The staff were fabulous, parking easy, shower powerful and the breakfast was excelllent.
The rooms are tired, the bed was very soft and lumpy and the walls and ceiling paper thin.
The lovely staff made up for some of the shortcomings.
- Heather (10/5): - Staff very friendly and went over and beyond, especially Emma. Wasn’t keen on the cooked breakfast to be honest, bacon was streaky and very crispy and only an egg cup of baked beans but lovely cup of tea
- John (8/5): - Nice place, very friendly staff, good food but noisy plumbing made for a poor nights sleep, which is a shame
- Kris (6/5): - No heating in the room, radiators not working. I made the staff aware around 19:30pm and nothing was done.
Stone flooring didn't help. Terrible sound proofing from the room next door and above
- Rachel (2/5): - The rooms need repair and renovating.
Noisy rooms from neighbouring rooms, toilet flushing can be heard from all the rooms.
Dog friendly pub and rooms so dog hair every where, cobwebs and damp damaged walls.
Stained beds.
- Russell (10/5): - Lovely country pub. Would stay again. Recommended.
- Ryan (4/5): Review on our two night stay. - This is our second time visiting as we loved the first time. We stayed in a different room, which was much smaller than our last one, we have no glasses in our room for the water that was provided to us, so we had to ask for these. It was a shame and a disappointment on this visit. The staff weren’t friendly and welcoming upon arrival and when we checked out. Breakfast the first morning was nice, but the second morning my partner ordered a cooked breakfast and and a cappuccino, the waitress told her she couldn’t have a cappuccino as it wasn’t included with the breakfast we explained we got one the day before and her response was ‘well he shouldn’t have done that’, it was a shame but we understand it wasn’t included, but there could have been a better way on informing us. When the full English came out my partners plate looked a little bare, there were no hash browns, we pointed this out to the waitress and she responded ‘we’ve ran out’ at no point upon ordering, during the service and receiving our food did she mentioned there were no hash browns, it would have been appropriate and convenient for us if we were told before the food was giving to us as we would have changed our order. We also had to ask for sauces and at no point did the waitress as if we needed anything, or how our breakfast was. The overall experience with the staff from start to finish had been a disappointment and we now unfortunately don’t feel we will return in the future.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent food, but need refresh on accommodation! - Excellent food, bed very comfortable.
Bathroom cleanliness could be better..last occupants used towels still hanging on bathroom door. Blind on window in unfortunate condition, and unlikely to raise it due to window right beside drive and near noisy kitchen. Generally requires a bit of refresh/paint throughout.
Lovrly staff and excellent food at both dinner and breakfast.
- David (8/5): - The Bourne Valley Inn is a pleasant country hostelry set in quiet surroundings in rural Hampshire. We felt that the hotel was a bit short-staffed during our stay but they worked hard to make sure that we were looked after. The Affogato dessert in the restaurant was to die for! Thank you Dave and the team.
- William (6/5): - Overall it's a little beauty this hotel. Unfortunately the pillows were quite stiff, our room was poorly lit and the bathroom mirror did not function although it is supposed to illuminate.
Those things we can overlook but the rating is for the lack of concern for cleanliness in the corridors. There was a note left by another guest on the floor near the rooms trying to get the attention of the owner to clean up the dog mess left right at the door to our rooms. Don't think it was a guests dog left by the property owners as I would assume they would clean that up. It was left there for 16 hours without being addressed and you needed to step over it to use your room.
I'm a dog lover but it's a little much and maybe just was overlooked. Overall a decent stay.
- M (10/5): Great! - Lovely pub, great food, nice room friendly staff.
And dog friendy milow is lovely.
- ABrian (8/5): - It’s a lovely place just set off a B road.
A little tired in areas and the rooms are not very sound proof you can hear everyone else in your area. However the staff were really good and the breakfast was brilliant as was the price
- Robert (10/5): - Really lovely stay, welcoming, friendly staff, great food, attentive service and cosy accommodation - thoroughly recommend
- TERENCE (8/5): - Convenient for sight seeing
- Helen (6/5): - Arriving after a long journey and having just finished our evening meal was not expecting the bar to close at 9.30 pm.
- MISS (8/5): - Lovely stay, great food and staff. A little noisy in the morning as guests up very early
- Jenny (10/5): Two night stay - Lovely room, very clean apart from the windows, lot's of cobwebs! Great service, good food and generous portions, nothing is too much trouble. Beware of you find stairs difficult, no lift and no downstairs rooms.
- Diane (10/5): - 2nd stay here - a really lovely place. Great breakfast with good quality ingredients.
- Tony (4/5): Disappointing - The bed was a mattress on a wooden platform and up against the wall, it was extremely difficult to get in and out of.
The cooked course for breakfast was good, but there were no cereals, no fruit or fruit juice and no yogurt.
- Brian (6/5): - Suitable for a brief stay, food and drink was okay but a overpriced.
- Anne (10/5): - A very comfortable place with excellent service and friendly staff. A lovely personal touch.
- Gemma (6/5): Poor nights sleep. - Overall Bourne Valley Inn is a nice country pub however I was stopping for one night to meet a colleague the next day and I had a terrible nights sleep due how noisy the place was. Doors constantly banging, the water system when someone had a shower, thin walls so could hear other's conversations and don't expect a lay in with further banging and deliveries to the pub in the morning. I also rang in advance to find out if they had EV chargers....yes they have but only 1 of 3 working, I could only plug in the next morning.
Staff were friendly and food was good but wouldn't return due to poor nights sleep.
Being met with ear plugs in the room should have been a sign of what was to come, these did not help.
No milk provided in the room, only noticed on the morning of wanting a coffee and then the cafetiere didn't work, coffee ended up everywhere.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very disappointed - Unfortunately, the accommodation was very basic, poorly decorated, broken extractor fan in bathroom, hole in the ceiling, poorly fitting windows, Heath Robinson furniture. On the plus side ...nice sheets, staff pleasant and parking available. Food very poor regrettably.
- David (6/5): Beautiful but disappointing - Beautiful location but unfortunately is let down by the fundamentals. The rooms are so noisy, if you are on the bottom floor you hear EVERYTHING from the room above. The real disappointment was that you are situated right next to a corridor and had the new sheets being delivered at 5.30am, huge trollies being wheeled in and out 3 or 4 times, pretty unacceptable to be honest. Also - no eggs at breakfast, Just go out and buy some if the delivery is late!
- Thomas (8/5): Borne Valley Inn - It was a comfortable place, with good food and a friendly staff. Unfortunately we did not understand that it is the only business establishment in the entire village and the pub closed at 4PM. We did not have a car, so we were essentially marooned in this village until the next day. If you come here, be sure to have a car.
- Rebecca (8/5): Lovely Country Inn in Good Location - One night stopover, arrived late so didn’t have an evening meal but highly rated the full English breakfast. The room was quite small but decor and amenities very good with a good bathroom and power shower. Only disappointment was we had booked a room with a king bed and was given one with a small double pushed against the wall so would have been more suited to a solo traveler rather than a couple. Otherwise good location and plenty of parking.
- Michael (6/5): - This is a reasonable standard pub in a very pretty location.
Make sure you demand to see your bill before payment. I was told a copy would be sent by email but it wasn't . I am pretty sure I was overcharged.
- Cindy (6/5): - Its in a nice location, staff were friendly and the food was great. But despite being in the middle of nowhere, there was a constant whirling noise all night, like some sort of machinery. But the bed being set on a wooden platform that I had to climb in and out of was what I really didn't enjoy.
- Susan (10/5): Beautiful - Beautifully decorated room very comfortable. Gorgeous breakfast. This is a gorgeous place to stay I really enjoyed it and the room was a pleasure to stay in. I would definitely recommend
- Anne (8/5): Very nice stay - Food here was good. Breakfast was amazing,
Room was comfortable. Luxury toiletries were available.
Corridors in need of refurb as are the windows and bathroom.
Lovely garden area.
Overall, perfect base and we would be happy to return.
- Helen (10/5): - Lovely room, great food, beautiful location.
- David (10/5): A little Jem - I was very pleased I picked this hotel, I wasmost impressed
- Lynne (10/5): - Great stay at the Bourne Valley Staff very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us Lovely place
- Louise (10/5): Great stay - Great place. Went over and above with customer service as we wanted an early breakfast 7.15am which normally starts at 8.30am. This was no problem for them and it was excellent.
- Stephen (8/5): Great breakfast - Lovely pub/hotel located on a quiet country lane, just stayed for one night, dinner was fine served in a nice room with a lovely fire and comfy chairs with rugs and throws.
Guess it could be a busy place in the summer as it has a fantastic garden and outside eating tables and covered seating spaces with plenty of fairy lights.
Breakfast choice was good with proper bread for toast and plenty if great coffee - could have sat there all morning.
Excellent value overall 🙂
- Adrian (10/5): Fantastic place to stay - My stay here was excellent from finding the location to leaving the property. Check in was done without hassle, stayed in toom 3. Very spacious, comfortable bed and powerful shower, food and drink was top notch. Id be making a visit here again
- Debrah (10/5): - Brilliant breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): Not bad - Nice pub and very friendly staff
Great Guinness!
Unfortunately room was red hot and radiator couldn't be changed.
Noisy ventilation systems outside
- Caroline (10/5): Comfortable stay - A good location for country walks. Small but comfortable room, nice pub/restaurant and good food. Enjoyable break.
- Paul (10/5): Excellent find off the beaten track - Excellent hotel, we arrived late and our experience was great, very friendly welcome and showed us straight to our room after arranging a drink from the bar. Definitely return
- Terry (8/5): A nice find - Very nice in a lovely spot.
- Fiona (6/5): - Ideal location and good service but building needs a lot of maintenance and soundproofing.
- Matt (8/5): The BVI is almost a 5* - The room is small, but comfortable. Bathroom only has a shower, but is powerful. Toilet and sink are substantial, and a big mirror (with light) are very welcome. The flooring is tiled, so it's cold on the feet and the bed is on wheels, so it moves every time you get in. The food is expensive, but you do get good quality. The menu (for me) was limited. However, it's the staff that make or break a holiday, and the staff here are excellent. They are attentive, engaging and care about you and the BVI. We were in room 1, and it's next door to the kitchen. There wasn't an espresso machine, hair dryer or bath robes in the room. Not sure if they were removed for Covid? Overall this is a great place to stay for a night or 2.
- Mark (10/5): Great find - BVI - Great find...great food, great service, good beer and wine plus a quiet location with another nearby pub in the village if you fancied a walk. The room was clean with a very comfortable bed. Mirror above the dressing table could have helped to make it more comfortable, but looking forward to our next booking here
- Matt (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely staff, great food. Dog-friendly and they gave our dog treats too so all three of us left happy!
Seems to be some nice grounds to explore around the area, but we were only there for drinks, dinner and breakfast ourselves.
Staff were wearing masks responsibility and hand sanitiser dispensers available to use at entry.
