Guest Reviews
- Simon (9/5): Very good will definitely recommend. - Nice old pub with character and great garden.
Bedroom and bathroom spacious and well laid out. Quiet and comfortable.
- Jesse (8/5): Friendly staff and a comfortable bed - Friendly staff and a comfortable room. The only drawback for me was that the shower was too hot to get into (may have been operator error). As it is a pub, it was on the main road so there was some noise from passing traffic in the night.
- Julia (8/5): Sehr netter Pub, sehr gutes Essen, à la carte, gemütliche Zimmer, sehr sauber, sehr freundlich. - Die Eigentümer Angestellten waren sehr, sehr freundlich und das Abendessen aus der Karte war hervorragend! Ich finde zu dem Toast beim Frühstück hätte man durchaus etwas Käse und nicht nur Marmelade reichen können.
- Catherine (9/5): Exceptionally good food and great staff in a wonderful location - Lovely pub in a beautiful location with fabulous food (well beyond my expectations). The vegetarian options were really good and the vegetarian breakfast delicious. So much better than hotel food! Very friendly and helpful staff (thank you Sam). Close to the National Arboretum which Sam recommended as a great place for a walk - stunning! I would highly recommend staying here.
- Ryan (10/5): -
- Liam (10/5): -
- Aimee (10/5): Breakfast was affordable and good vegan options - Easy check in and check out, cosy and comfortably beds
- Lesley (7/5): - The room was very quiet and the beds were comfortable. The pub staff, food, atmosphere was great and perfect location for travelling to Badminton. Would return. Bedrooms were very tired. But they have plans to get them refurbished.
- Sarah (8/5): - I chose this hotel for it's proximity to Badminton Horse Trials (10 minute drive). My room was located in the main hotel and it was immaculate and peaceful. I found all the staff to be kind and caring. I didn't eat at the hotel but the menu certainly looked appetising! I would have no hesitation in staying again. Nothing to dislike.
- FARALLI ROBERTO (9/5): - Persone molto gentili e una location molto carina.
- Petra (3/5): Sadly wouldn’t go back. - We booked a twin double and got a small double bed. The bath took an hour to run and the shower didn’t work. Everything closed very early . Staff not very helpful.
- Alison (9/5): -
- Georgina (4/5): A rather dated property, did the job but wouldn’t rush back - Friendly staff
Easy car parking
Location The mattress was ancient and had a massive dip in it, old, broken and made my back very sore. Bathroom was old.
Locked slightly mouldy windows - which were noisily cleaned by a window cleaner before 08:30!!! All rather dated and could be cleaner.
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Giulia (9/5): -
- Amy (6/5): - Super location, friendly staff, reasonably priced.
The building is stunning so rooms could be superb but need some attention. Broken blinds, faulty iron that tripped the electricity. Sofa very worn and tired looking. Cobwebs everywhere. No coffee provided (but thank you for the hot chocolate, the children appreciated it). Carpets weren't the cleanest, perhaps hard flooring everywhere is more suitable in pet friendly accommodation.
- Ben (10/5): Extremely comfortable and welcoming, very pet friendly - The Kings Arms is a great place to stay. So friendly, towards my daughter and I and also our pet terrier Maisie who also veru much enjoyed her stay. Maisie was welcomed everywhere including at breakfast. As she is well behaved and sits under the table quietly, this worked out well for everyone. The bed was super comfortable, the room spacious and clean, and the facilities excellent. The dining and outside areas are large and well maintained. All set in a gorgeous village location. Would highly recommend, especially for pets.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Nicolette (8/5): -
- Paul (8/5): Great pub stay in the Cotswolds - Nice location in the Cotswolds, good for walks.
Very decent pub food and drink, great beer garden for a sunny day. The bed had a large dent in the mattress on the side.
Recently had new owners so the staff were slightly confused with payment and check in systems but probably just teething problems with the change.
- Robo (10/5): - Frühstück war wonderful Very clean and friendly
- Rachel (8/5): Nice stay - Lovely location, and great cottage. The dishwasher was broken but the pub is currently changing hands.
- jo (1/5): A Disappointment - Nothing The appalling way we have been treated. We paid for bed and breakfast however there was no food at all. We had been told the restaurant was closed for evening meals in advance NOT that there was no breakfast at all. Staff were very apologetic and said we could be compensated by management. We have heard nothing. Our stay was 14/15th April and we have waited til now to write a review in the hope we would hear from the pub.
- Claire (8/5): -
- De La Torre (10/5): -
- Ricardo (8/5): A good traditional inn with an excellent pub - Cozy and comfortable, traditional inn feel. Very nice pub! When we arrived the room we were allocated, by mistake was not clean. We were immediately transferred to another room, the landlady was very apologetic and offered us a complimentary wine over dinner, which was nice.
- Emmanouil (5/5): -
- Linda (9/5): -
- Glenn (5/5): A nice place to stay but could - Excellent choice and cooked perfectly
Poached eggs amazing Being woke at 7.30am with fire alarm system going off and no staff present apart from
The chef
- Rachel (7/5): Good but could be better with a bit more TLC - Lovely setting in a nice village. Great cottage for a large family like ours. We didn’t eat at the pub but had some drinks in the nice beer garden. Unfortunately the place needs a huge deep clean. The shower was pretty gross. Thankfully the beds were clean and comfy. I think they need to spend a bit of money on updating the facilities and they would have an absolute gem. However for the price we paid it was adequate.
- Julie (9/5): Lovely - Nice little self contained cottage. Parking outside and close to the pub with great food and very comfortable
- Seabrook (4/5): - Location and bar area. Bed,shower, slow service
- Ann (10/5): -
- Claire (10/5): Lovely quiet retreat. Single room with comfy bed and welcome desk - Very quiet room with amazingly comfy bed.
- Paul (9/5): Excellent stay - Had a lovely stay. Comfortable bed and great breakfast Building a little tired in places
- Fi Drinks (7/5): Great food, helpful staff - value for money ✅ - Staff check in
Breakfast very good
Dinner - Ham Egg Chips was exceptional Sadly shower was poor
- Zoe (9/5): -
- 99bigvern (10/5): - Quaint comfortable Hotel and bar restaurant, lots of character, staff very welcoming. Didn't find anything to dislike.
- Mark (8/5): -
- GONZALO (10/5): - Really good accomodation and nice pub as well to have lunch/dinner
- Sagar (9/5): - Beautiful property. Great location, very traditional set-up, clean and cozy rooms, a pub with diner. During our stay the food serving time was too long with limited choices .. as they had staff shortage. However the food was excellent, albeit with a long wait.
- Marie (1/5): -
- Jackson (2/5): Never to return - The room was less than clean : the sofa was worn out not shabby chic : wires poking through the edges
The tv only had one channel
The fire and smoke alarm was missing
Poor quality picture.
The arrival at breakfast was a shabbles a scruffy woman took our order : there were no other guests
After 40 minutes the breakfast did arrive but not what ordered
The cleaning staff continued to mop the floors whilst we were eating.
Only go here if cannot find another place to stay

- John (8/5): Good - 8 a bit noisy upstairs above us, but actual property was very nice Just the noise coming from the place above
- Nicole (4/5): Not returning - Convenient The food was not appetitizing, the b/room needs up dating and the common areas were dirty.
- Nicolas (9/5): -
- Alex (10/5): -
- Sandy (6/5): Nice break on the way to Devon - bEDS very comfortable & very dog friendly Length of time we waited for food.
- Sylwia (9/5): Lovely - Everything was plesent If the shops are close
- Martin (8/5): -
- Rob Navin (10/5): - Excellent facilities and staff were very nice Nothing
- Joanna (10/5): Great value - Spacious room! Lovey comfy bed.
- SIDORELA (10/5): -
- Katy (10/5): Amazing! Definitely coming again! - Bigger than expected! So cosy and warm with easy to use heating for when coming home after a long walk. Hard wood downstairs flooring so easy to keep clean. The staff were lovely, they treated my dog like she’s royalty. Felt like being at home but better cos I didn’t have to do the cooking! Food was really affordable and yummy! Nothing!
- Craig (10/5): Amazing place fantastic room and food - Stunning rooms great food
- Paul Goggin (10/5): Paul's birthday night away! - Very friendly and helpful staff and management (Martina and Tom plus the chef!)
Nice room, comfy bed, lovely little treat for my birthday 🥳 It was all good!
- Patricia (8/5): -
- Administrator (10/5): - Amazing stay with friends thank you !
- Lucy (4/5): Very expensive for drink but a standard stay for the price. - The location was ideal for what we needed and the staff seemed friendly. The room felt a little tired and dated which is fine only needing to stay one night but it was very hot in the upstairs room. I found hairs in the bathroom and in the bed. The room we stayed in offered just a bath but the water pressure was very poor and would have taken an age to get enough to bath in but the staff did kindly let us use a shower in another room, it was just a bit stressful as we had a wedding to go to. The breakfast was quite greasy and the coffee was terrible. When we arrived the night before we purchased two gins and one bottle of tonic and it came to £23.55! Maybe I'm not up to date with prices but I was shocked at the amount.
Overall it was a little disappointing, at £108 for a night I know it's not the most expensive but I still feel you shouldn't part with hard earned money and expect to leave disappointed regardless of the price.
- Alison (9/5): Comfortable room, good food and an exceptionally friendly welcome from the staff. -
- Nigel (8/5): Well equipped room, friendly staff and lovely village location - Nice location, good breakfast, laid back atmosphere and friendly staff , the room was well equipped with fan, heater, ironing board, nice welcome tray, lovely crisp bedding, the walk to the ancient church on the hill is highly recommended The paint was chipped here and there and the shower was a bit grotty, could do with a thoroughly good clean
- Aileen (6/5): Friendly staff .apparently the pub is under new management. Dining room had been refurbished. - No cereal or yoghurt available, Shower in bedroom needs a good clean.
- Alison (8/5): Very satisfied - The room was clean and comfortable.
The food was delicious with good portion sizes and gluten-free options too!
- Shane (6/5): -
- Joolz (6/5): - Overall it was a nice stay,The bed was extra comfy.
Staff always happy to help. In the room,it was just the finishing touches, the top of the tap had come off,the shower needed the sealant to come off, and needed replacing with new, the window didn't quite shut properly.
- Lyn (10/5): - The pub was lovely, welcoming open fire and friendly staff.
We were there for arboretum light trail. Ideal location.
Food was excellent and room great size.
Will definitely be going back
- Johanna (9/5): -
- Michael (8/5): - Cozy pub and bnb with nice atmosphere and a lovely pub garden. Decent rates
- Elena (9/5): - Staff gentilissimo, ristorante dell'hotel propone ottimi piatti, colazione altrettanto buona (alla carta), camera pulita e accogliente
- Vaughan (9/5): - Lovely friendly staff, willing to accommodate any requests The food was good, but a different lunch menu could be introduced and self-serviced cereals, fruit and yoghurt could be offered at breakfast.
- Pollard (3/5): Amazing roast, poor experience. - The roast dinner was the most amazing we had ever eaten. 10/10. Secondly the location is beautiful. Everything else sadly! The rest of the food other than the roast was very poor quality. The chef struggled to poach eggs on the breakfast menu so breakfasts came out with 10 minutes between them meaning we ate separately although strangely the very burnt bacon arrived first (but missing avocado). On our second night a chicken greek dish the chicken was very burnt and like leather, the flatbread was simply a supermarket pitta.
The carpets were very muddy, and room appeared to not have been used for a while as was dirty and the shower tray was very dusty and unclean. Also there was only 1/4 roll of toilet paper and no shower gel or shampoo. Lastly there was a very loud washing machine during the night which was impossible to sleep through. The room was also very hot with no heating controls or windows that would open.
- Bev (7/5): Very welcoming with beautiful location and great potential with a little tlc - It was clean and warm. The staff were very friendly and had a nice country pub vibe to it. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. The kitchen was not able to cater for us for the whole stay. There were a couple of things that could have done with fixing or updating.
- Robert (8/5): -
- Louise (9/5): -
- Georgina (6/5): - Great staff, great food Power cut, fire alarm going offf
- Warwick (8/5): Great overnight stay. - Spacious village pub with large car park and garden. Limited but excellent menu. A few ‘tired’ elements of an old building.
- Catherine (9/5): - Comfortable stay. Lovely people.
- Lee (10/5): -
- Philip (8/5): -
- conor (9/5): the negative points are definatley outweighed by the good points. oh and the Real ale was Butcombe and was excellent. - good location for a coaching inn. quite good if just passing or wishing to explore the area. the bar and restaurant were great with good pub fare. the food was good but needed to be a little fresher. the accompaniment such as breads , rice were all a bit dry.
- Aleksander (10/5): Outstanding customer service and facilities - Outstanding facilities for the money paid Nothing given the value
- Fawlty (7/5): -
- Francis (9/5): Great - Great rooms
Great staff Food excellent but expensive
- Dale (6/5): -
- Ann (10/5): -
- Rosanna (9/5): Excellent stay, would recommend. - Super friendly welcome on arrival. Lovely spacious room. Excellent food in restaurant for dinner and for breakfast the following morning. Really good value. Bathroom was a little dated.
- Rachel (9/5): Late booking, very good, helpful staff too. - Lovely place to stay. Nothing.
- Gary (9/5): -
- Lee (10/5): -
- Mark (8/5): -
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic, loved the hotel, staff and food. - I was travelling alone, the hotel was perfect for me, I felt safe the hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was fabulous and the hotel was old and recently renovated but still kept all it's charm. Totally recommended it to everyone. Nothing
- Andrea (10/5): Excellent! - The King’s Arms truly exceeded our expectations. The location is beautiful, the food was exceptional, and the staff were outstanding. We had a wonderful experience, are extremely happy with our visit, and will definitely be coming back.
- Kim M Leonard (5/5): Cozy stay - The warm welcome, friendly staff, cosy environment.
The menu choices are good, but the breakfast is outstanding The light next to the bed didn't work, the room and bathroom were both cold. The bathroom door got stuck shut every time it was used and the toilet cistern took ages to fill noisily. You could clearly hear the TV and people talking in the next room.
- Patricia (9/5): - Quaint 17th century features
Comfy room and bed
Warm and quiet
Delicious food Expensive menu
Very quiet. But it is November.
- Tracy (10/5): Homely and characterful. - A lovely, homely and characterful room.
- Carrington (5/5): Trying too hard and missing the marks. - The pub is an old English village pub and it should keep the comfort and style of this type of establishment. Trying too hard and missing the marks.
The room itself was ok and to a general standard of clean however it could do with a good deep clean on sockets, radiators and corners etc.
The decor was again ok but some parts rather tired and the mirror in the bathroom looks as though its just been randomly placed there and doesn't go with any decor at all.
The windows were in a shocking state of repair and the room had no ability to control temperature so was extremely hot without any ability to ventilate.
In general the space was ok but for the price you would expect more and the serious need for new windows is looming.
The staff were polite but there was a huge lack of attentiveness and service, tables not cleared, no one to check out, discussions overhead between chef and waiting staff.
The breakfast was again ok but the evening meal was not good at all, the menu is too large, confusing and trying to hard. If you cant cook duck then just dont have it on the menu a solid good quality basic menu is better than attempting and missing the mark on restaurant style food. The crumble was frozen berries which was still cold in the middle and burnt on the outside, totally fine if your eating it as a basic microwave restaurant but not when your paying the price here.
