Guest Reviews
- Nicholas (8/5): Start holiday early by staying here when flying early in morning - Close to airport off site parking Nothing
- Susan (10/5): Very enjoyable! - Breakfast excellent, ladies serving it extremely nice and very friendly to us and our dog! Room great and location good Nothing!
- Nicola (9/5): Wunderschönes Inn - Typisch british, von außen wunderbar urig.
Wir haben hier für eine Nacht auf der Durchreise geschlafen.
Toller Biergarten. Sehr gemütlicher Pub.
Sehr schönes modernes und sauberes Zimmer.
Frühstück a la Card. Sehr lecker. Der Flughafen ist sehr nah.
Die Flugzeuge sind nicht zu überhören.
Ohrenstopfen helfen 😁.
- Andrew (8/5): - Close to parking for holiday to Gatwick Airport Difficult to say, only there for 1 night
- robert (10/5): -
- Anthony (8/5): Above average room and good value for money. I would stay there again. - Very clean and tidy. Spacious rooms and comfortable. Good location for our visits to Hever Castle and Tulleys tulip festival. Good outdoor seating area. Nothing
- Gail (10/5): Great food and friendly staff - Nice and relaxing Na
- Christian (9/5): On the whole excellent - TV remote was not working. Staff could not fix it.
- Paul (8/5): For a quiet location close to Gatwick , was a good choice from crowded hotels in area . - We had Dinner in evening which was good home cooked food with excellent breakfast / coffee in morning . Lovelly Old Pub with friendly staff .
- Joanne (7/5): It was OK as we stayed on a quiet night but it would have been a real problem on a busy time of year - The room was nice and location was great We did not realise that there was an option for a first floor or ground floor room - so although the room was nice we had someone staying in the room above and they were up in the night so really noisy. You could hear everything! We also noticed that the gardens were extensive with an optional bar area right outside the rooms so if you stay in warm weather be prepared for a noisy late night!
The food was not great - it was over cooked and really very poor value for money. I had monkfish tail and mussels and there was very little meat on the tail and over half the mussels had no mussels in them!
- Lyndsey (10/5): - Everything Nothing

- Sharon (10/5): - Everything
- John (3/5): Perfect spot for an early Gatwick flight, ruined. - The place was OK - there was no sound insulation between rooms. The food was inedible. The staff were good though. Food. Sound insulation.
- Terence (9/5): An ideal spot for an overnight stay before a flight from Gatwick Airport. - Our room was very spacious and well appointed. We were staying on Easter Sunday and were disappointed that there was no evening meal available.
- lauren (9/5): - The room was large and comfortable. Good amenities in the room. Breakfast was good quality and very tasty, the staff were fantastic and really make the place stand out. I look forward to staying again in the future.
- Matthew (9/5): -
- James (7/5): Really nice stat before our holiday, staff were lovely, room good and I would say here again - Made a nice change from the corporate hotel chains. Food was good quality but expensive
- James (8/5): - Lovely staff, nice room, good value for money Closed the bar on Sunday at 8 o'clock also we wanted 2 twin beds and we're given a double, noticeable for 2 gents
- Tracy (8/5): Great place for an overnight stay. - The Inn was lovely, friendly staff and scrumptious food.
A pleasant place to stay. We stayed as had an early morning flight to Gatwick. The only gripe would be that the room upstairs had really creaky floorboards but that did quieten down after a while.
- Louise (10/5): Fabulous place! - Cosy, welcoming, lovely room, great restaurant. Pillows a bit hard but everything was perfect apart from that.
- Carolyn (9/5): Very comfortable and friendly stay - Very friendly staff, lovely large comfortable bed and large shower room.
- Elizabeth (10/5): We stayed here the night before our visit to Tulleys Tulip fields celebrating a birthday. Staff were exceptionally frien - Location, cleanliness and room size were great with beautiful bathroom Double bed was 2 singles brought together and ridge was obvious - an extra thick mattress topper would have been good
- sherilyn (9/5): - No milk in room
- Lena (10/5): Wie immer toller Aufenthalt.
- Malaya (10/5): - Beautiful place to stay ! Fantastic staff, particularly Luke who has excellent customer service skills and went out of his way to help us. It was an extremely difficult time for us, as we were visiting for my brother's funeral. I couldn't fault the accommodation and would definitely stay again. The food was also delicious in the evening 😋. Thank you everyone for making our stay as easy as possible xx

Breakfast was tasty and good choices.
- Mark (8/5): Very good, close to Gatwick. We would stay again - Evening meal was superb Outside area of rooms
- Sarah (10/5): - The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The gluten free fish and chips were amazing!
The room was very comfortable and breakfast was yummy, would highly recommend. Nothing, all A1.
- Linda (10/5): -
- Brian (10/5): What a find! - Our room was called Stubbins on the 1st floor. Very spacious and very comfortable room. The bed was particularly comfortable. The room was spotless and well kept.9 The room, Stubbins, could have done with more storage space or drawers for clothing. The built in wardrobe/cupboard was ham packed with a folding occasional bed, ironing board and iron, leaving scant space for hanging a suit and jackets. The outside wooden staircase, although sturdy, could have done with a little TLC.
- Christopher (7/5): Convenient for Gatwick Airport. - Comfortable bed. Loo not clean on arrival. Non functioning shower extractor fan. Only one wall socket. Early morning (6:30am) overhead wake up from planes taking off from nearby Gatwick Airport.
- Philip (10/5): A great location nearby to Gatwick Airport and providing excellent accommodation and bistro food. - Firstly, all the staff were most welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Has a good carpark area with adjacent garden patios & lawn.
We enjoyed both an evening meal and breakfast in the Inn/pub, adjoining the accommodation outbuilding. The menu choices for both meals were varied, food was well presented, tasty and very enjoyable, providing great value for money. The accommodation - room including ensuite, was very comfortable and well fitted out with facilities e.g. TV, radio, tea/coffee making equipment, iron & board and, suitcase stand. Nothing to comment.
- Christopher (8/5): All we needed for a one night stopover - Breakfast was great and the staff were very attentive A minor issue, but the plumbing was noisy
- david (9/5): -
- Anthony (7/5): -
- Anna (10/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): - The staff. They were really friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. Very polite, nothing was too much trouble. The food was great. Nothing really.
- Carolyn (10/5): - Great place to stay when flying from Gatwick.
Lovely room
Shower
Breakfast
Staff Lovely Last order for food 8pm
Shower could have done with a mat a bit slippery
- Hannah (8/5): -
- Peter (8/5): An excellent place to stay before flying. - Comfortable room, friendly staff, good food. Our room was up an outside wooden staircase that was slippery in the wet and had a steep going. This is a challenge for any with restricted mobility. Breakfast didn’t start until 08.00 which is a bit late for those staying to catch an early flight from Gatwick.
- Julie (8/5): Comfortable and pleasant hotel, well-situated. - Clean and well-equipped room with spacious and very comfortable bed. Plenty of towels and hot water in great bathroom.
Staff friendly and helpful. Good access to M23 and M25. We didn't need it for access to Gatwick, but I imagine it is ideally situated for the airport and surrounding countryside.
We would stay here again....particularly if using Gatwick. We thought the breakfast was rather pricey so didn't bother as we were pressed for time. Perhaps more choice with lighter, smaller and cheaper breakfasts for people who are time-limited because of flights or, in our case, a funeral service would be a great addition to the menu. We had one evening meal....the service was good and the venue pleasing. We enjoyed our meal.
- Ian (9/5): Delightful inn, charming and comfortable if a little scatty - The breakfast was very good & the whole space was attractive, rustic and comfortable. The staff were very enthusiastic & made up a roaring fire for us in the snug after dinner and gifted mini mince pies to take away. The car park was very squelchy & a bit flooded after rain - tricky as I was wearing light shoes. And although charming, the staff needed a little more attention to detail. Veg didn’t arrive till we’d virtually finished dinner/ promised quail egg didn’t materialise as part of starter/ tea making equipment in bedroom but no milk. Things missing that would’ve made a perfect stay.
- Roger (10/5): -
- Eleanor (6/5): Lovely stay! - Lovely comfy big beds in the room
Rooms were warm and nice and dark
Lovely breakfast - great service and high quality food
Lovely pub food for dinner also! Great value and amazing food. Also great attentive staff! Rooms were very dusty - could see things like the radiators, headboards and corners of rooms were very dusty and cobweb filled - cleaning could be done to a higher standard!
Shower pressure not great, quite a weak pressure.
- Travis (5/5): Avoid during hot summer days - Cute and unique furnishings No A/C. We sweated all night.
- Rachael (10/5): -
- Karin (6/5): -
- Vicky (10/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): Will return. - Great food, helpful staff, a cosy place to stay on a wet winters day. The room was great and the large bed comfy, but as it was two singles joined together it meant a big dip along the middle of the bed.
Not the hotels fault but the mobile phone signal in the area is very poor.
- Cynthia (8/5): Family get together - The room was comfortable. Heating was excellent and easy to adjust. Lighting was good. We could read in bed by the lights which isn't always the case in hotels now. Electric sockets were difficult to reach. All involved getting on the floor as they were under shelves and a table. Very difficult for older people but not convenient even for younger ones. No socket on one side of the bed. We ate in the hotel on two eveni gs and one lunch and would have like the option of a orioer fish dish.. there was only sea good risotto.
- kenneth (10/5): Very cosy place to stay - Great staff Nothing
- Karen (9/5): -
- Samantha (9/5): -
- Debbie (9/5): Comfortable lovely room - It was a very comfortable room , a lovely cosy bed, very clean , good heating.
Bathroom was a little chilly, even with the heated towel rail on full , but overall the room was lovely. The walls are paper thin so you could hear the neighbours talking very very clearly as if they were in the same room as us.
That was our only gripe .
- sherilyn (8/5): -
- nicholas (10/5): Fabulous roast, great staff - Very friendly staff
Lovely open fire in bar
Outstanding roast dinner The radio in the room was playing when we checked in , the room next door was unoccupied therefore the radio played all night not very loudly but enough to hear
- Nancy (10/5): Home from home! - Immaculate in every way, was a complete home from home. Comfortable and clean. Good quality linen etc. can’t recommend highly enough! Nothing!!!!
- Alexandra (10/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): -
- Sam (10/5): -
- Gail (9/5): -
- Nadia (7/5): Adequate for our needs - Lewis was very obliging and helpful as he tried to fulfill our wish to have a twin bedded room because the bed had not been separated. He also had to rectify the numerous mistakes made by housekeeping but he did so gallantly and with a smile on his face. In a two person room there was only one chair so one person would always have to sit on the bed.The cafetier had been left half filled with stale coffee and the water bottle had been opened and used.(housekeeping issue) There were no easily accessible plug points for electrical devices. The bathroom was lovely but there were no surface areas to place our toiletries etc and no tissues. There was a similar problem in the bedroom with no surfaces to put 'stuff'.
- Paul (9/5): Highly recommend we loved it - We loved it … safe neighbourhood… charming pub … room was large , clean , super comfy bed .. warm .. hot shower , nice linen and towels we loved it ..we arrived late but Mr Lewes made arrangements for us … thank you old house people we enjoyed our stay Nothing
- Nigel (10/5): Great stay in a lovely relaxing location with very friendly, helpful staff. - The staff were absolutely brilliant. The property was clean and nicely laid out. Nothing
- Jacqueline (8/5): VERY ENJOYABLE - GRAT LOCATION, STAFF VERY HELPFUL AND PLEASANT, LOVELY ATMOSPHERE TO PUB IN THE EVENING. VERY SLOW PREPARING BREAKFAST. WE NEEDED TO GET GOING IN THE MORNING AND ENDED UP LAEVING LATER THAN WE WANTED. HAVING SAID THAT THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD WHEN IT EVENTUALL ARRIVED.
WOULD STAY AGAIN NEXT TIME IN THE SUMMER TO MAKE USE OF THE AMPLE OUTSIDE SEATING IN THE GARDENS.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Heather (10/5): -
- Kate (9/5): Lovely. We'll be back... - Tastefully decorated.
Very clean.
Comfortable beds.
Friendly staff. Nice menu but would have been nice to have gluten free options clearly marked on the menu.
- Malcolm (10/5): -
- Geoffrey (7/5): Good food - Location and friendly staff The property was ok , but unfortunately at 03:30 in the morning our neighbours arrived from whatever function they had been to , obviously drunk and noisy. Nothing the pub or anyone could do about that, they were quite disrespectful of their neighbours and surroundings. Nobheads.
- Stefanie (10/5): -
- leia (7/5): Clean and pleasant but service let it down. - Nice decor in rooms The service of the staff except for one young lady was really not what we have experienced before at Butcome inns.
- Nick (8/5): Lovely old in close to Gatwick. Nice room and relaxed evening in bar - Lovely old inn. Nice room, looked recently decorated, comfy bed and warmed quickly when we turned the radiator up. Lovely dinner in the evening. Little chilly in the pub. The cooked breakfast was a little disappointing. Most of it was overcooked.
- Neil (7/5): Gorgeous old pub…..lovely staff……but really disappointing - The staff were lovely…..but…! The room was freezing cold….until we managed to turn on the radiator. No instant coffee, so was about to use the cafetiere…but it was half full from the prior occupants! Really? Two ‘normal’ tea bags. And that was it! And I have never come across such thin toilet paper! Otherwise…room quite comfortable!!
Pub itself is lovely…but it also was cold. Food ok…but soup also under-heated. And for accommodation so close to the airport it was disappointing that breakfast was served too late to catch our flight! They provided a packed breakfast…but bread and pastry evidently not fresh!
So…all in all a disappointing experience.
With the saving grace being the staff…..who were great!! So…looks like some management issues.
- Roger (9/5): - the room was very comfortable and spacious. Character of the main inn. Easy location for Gatwick and M25 Road and plane noise but then it is near Gatwick!!
- Deborah (9/5): Lovely cosy stay before a flight - The room was beautiful. It had everything we needed for a one night stay before a flight from Gatwick. We were late to arrive due to traffic but the staff kindly left me check in instructions, and my room had lamps on and music playing. It was a lovely gesture. There was a little bit of dust on the radio amd in the corners of the room, but otherwise everything was perfect
- Phil (9/5): -
- Kerry (9/5): - Room beautiful and large
Evening dinner was superb
- Otto (10/5): sehr gemütlich, bettes Personal und gute Küche - das Zimmer war sehr gemütlich und hatte Kaffee und Tee bereit es gab nichts auszusetzen
