Guest Reviews
Passer votre chemin....
- MiekeP14 (6/5): Nothing spectacular as lodging - unfriendly staff - We stayed 3 nights (Thursday thru Sunday) in the month of May.
Check-in was quick with a staff member that did not show any interest in giving his guests a welcome feeling. We had to ask for the wifi code, we did not receive any information on the facilities. The website stated there was a restaurant & swimming pool onsite... Indeed - only there are closed! There is a beautiful garden, only there are no lounge chairs so no-one can enjoy it.
Breakfast is adequate but nothing special - Served from 8h30 onwards, we arrived at 9 am and were the first. Staff member not friendly, did not address us at all and served - reluctantly I might add - coffee.
We had a bungalow with 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a living area. There is a sort of balcony at the bak (with a very low wall so you can see your neighbours), again no chairs to sit outside in front,. A pity as the weather permitted sitting outside.
El Rocio is sort of a ghost town during the week, there were literally 3 cars upon our arrival on Thursday, during the WE it was full of tourists.
We chose this hotel as it was near the national park but would not book it again if we would come back..
- MANUEL (8/5): - Instalaciones muy acordes con la zona , proyecto ( en marcha) de nuevas instalaciones magnifico
- schliek (8/5): comfortable hotel just outside the town El Rocio - Hi guys.
We (4 p) stayed 3 nights.
The beds are good.
The breakfast was very good.
There is no kettle in the room and no coffee maker.
The water of the shower did not have a constant temperature.
While showering you have to adjust the temperature several times.
We had 2 rooms and a living room. It was cosy.
We will return.
Regards
Schliek
- CERDIC (2/5): Terrible. Avoid if at all possible - Booked a room for three nights but left as the room was dirty and the electrics deadly.
The cable of the hair dryer in the bathroom was completely shredded. Looked lethal.
Went to use one of the blankets to find that it had wet paint on it.
The hotel states it is disabled friendly with room and hotel access. This is not true.
The access from the road is by the back gate, over a rotten board walk. The movable ramp on to the board walk is not the correct hight.
Access to the room is again by a movable ramp, again not the correct hight. The angle is too steep and the turning on to the patio too tight.
Cold dark bedroom.
There is no flat access to the public rooms.
The restaurant was close.
Staff smoking in reception next to the 'No Smoking' sign.
Disinterested reception staff. Dealt with four different staff members
- Laura288 (6/5): Comfortable Accommodation - This hotel, comprised of several bungalows, is ideally situated to visit the time-capsule, Wild West town of El Rocio. We were here to visit the nearby National Park and to go birding, which was fabulous.
The hotel is comfortable; the rooms are spacious and very clean. The breakfast is adequate--nothing special. What I did appreciate was the effort made to accommodate our request for whole wheat bread and plain yogurt.
If you need to use the internet, note that there is no WIFI in the guest rooms. We had to share a desk with management in their office because at this time of year, the lobby is unheated, and there is no guest lounge. This issue should be addressed.
- 888martynp (6/5): A lovely place to stay, but really could do better on the service! - Pequeno Rocio comprises a beautiful main building with large event rooms, twenty or so bungalows and a pool. The bungalow was a reasonable price (€45 a night) spacious and clean.
There were two things which caused me to take a star off the rating: the fact that breakfast wasn't served until 9 and on the day we took an early tour of the Donana National Park, they couldn't even manage a coffee at 7.30am.
The other problem was that they were demolishing an old building at the back to build more bungalows and so from 9-6 (with a two hour break for lunch) we could only hear heavy machinery breaking up concrete - not conducive to a quiet day by the pool.
- Lanno (8/5): Very pretty hotel just outside the town of El Rocio - The hotel is just outside the town of El Rocio, and the apartments are comfortable and quiet.
As a group of two couples it was good to have two bathrooms. However the air conditioning in one of the bedrooms wasn't working and there was a heatwave so we needed it. The hotel was very busy so there was no other apartment available.
There is a swimming pool but it is open to the local residents, and it was very busy as it was hot, with music blaring out during the day.
The food was OK but I wouldn't choose to eat there again.
- ProfessorK-Os (10/5): Lovely accomodations - We had a party room. Large living room with TV couch coffee table and straight back chairs and small refrigerator. Down stairs there was also a bedroom with twin beds a, a small bathroom with shower and an out door utility patio. Up stairs was a bedroom with a queen size bed ensconced with mosquito net, aa smaller bathroom with shower and a door to a large rooftop deck with a small table and two patio chairs. We were able to add more chairs and enjoy happy hour with our friends. aIt was mid week so the bar was not functioning but yer receptionist gave us. The needed equipment, forks glasses, paper plates etc.
we came for the wildlife in the Donana National park and had a wonderfull all day tour seeing over 30 species of birds new to us, lynx and badger tracks, wild horses, deer eating acorns under the cork oak trees a variety of habitats etc.
We were even more fascinated with the town of El Rocio which looked like a movie setting from the old west. The buildings were well kept, the streets are very wide and sandy. Hitching posts line the streets in front of each building but very few shops of eating places were open. Where were all the people? Off season and the middle of the week was part of the answer. How does the town survive? The vision of the Vigin in a tree trunk by a shepherd in the 13th century plays a major role in the life of El Rocio.Miricals are prayed for, regular religious celebrations occur and a grand festival is held in honor of the Virgin 50 days after Easter sheer a million people converge on the town. Many make the three day pilgrimage through the national park.
In late June the wild horses are rounded up and the yearlings are auctioned off. These things all add to the fascination of the. Location.
- JamesSonia (8/5): Great character and location - We weren't sure about this - we rarely go to two star hotels! But very very pleasantly surprised. Lovely two bedroom villa type rooms, guitar shaped swimming pool with bar, and lovely reception area. Rooms a bit basic, hence the two stars but as a short stay while visiting El Rocio and Donana it was great. Restaurants a short walk. And the rooms have excellent air conditioning - a must in El Rocio in August!
- skiier123 (8/5): Charming! - This is a very charming hotel right by the national park. It has this cute courtyard and friendly staff that held our luggage for us while we went on a safari in the park. The room is wonderful. We also appreciated them making us dinner even late into the night. The steak was delicious. The breakfast was only ok with a bread and some jam. Otherwise, it's really a nice place to stay in that little town of El Rocio.
- AndreasSM (8/5): There are horses here - we stumbled across the Pequeno Rocio by chance. It was a last minute online booking along our route of travel. Driving into Rocio is a bit like driving into a set for a western movie. The roads are unsealed, there are wough wooden railings to tie you horse in front of every building, and there are people on horses going upon their daily business of riding up and down main street.
The Pequeno Rocio is a very pleasant small resort beside the main road at the edge of town. The appartments are very spacious and well equipped, comfortable. There is a great pool area with a little bar and they serve a decent breakfast. You are also conveniently close to town with its restaurants and shops. It's a family place where you are treated with a hearty welcome. No wifi in the rooms, but in the main restaurant/reception area.
- Bikasch (10/5): Great atmosphere - delicious (!) food! - Since January 2011 there are new owners. No idea how it was before, but right now it is just a fantastic place to be. The atmosphere of this little village is just wonderful, a lot of small houses, that offer a lot of space to all guests. All rooms offer at least one sleeping room with an independent living room, most of the houses have another independent sleeping room, bathroom to share. Everything is very clean and comfortable. The pool area is very inviting as well, with a large green lawn around a big pool, a lot of umbrellas and even a pool bar. There is also a baby pool.
But to save the best for last: The restaurant is just incredible! Though the atmosphere can be beaten, it was the best food, which we enjoyed for months! No idea, how they can manage such a great kitchen in such a small village, but just this makes the trip worth. All the more, as the prices are more than reasonable! Same for the wine.
The staff is very helpful and friendly and makes everything possible for you. As we were not able to eat in the restaurant as our baby phone could not manage the distance, there was no question, that they brought everything to our bungalow.
We will surely come back!
- wondersn (4/5): like an out-of-season holiday camp - This place obviously thinks a lot of itself (128Euros/night for 2 adults + 1 child, with breakfast supposedly included) but it had the slightly-musty, permanently-uncompleted air of an out-of-season holiday camp. The rooms are undeniably large and comfortable, but everything else was a let-down. The TV offered a minimal number of channels, all local. No wifi, nor internet of any kind.
The pool was a big attraction for us: it's large, but has no natural shade. Since it's open between 12.00 and 20.00 this means using it when the sun is at its height and with no respite.
The restaurant, which is independently managed, was reported by locals to be well worth a visit. Unfortunately it was closed both nights of our stay (Monday and Tuesday), and this is, apparently, routine. The restaurant is responsible for breakfast when it's open, so we were served by hotel staff on the Tuesday morning - a laughable affair and without the soya milk that we had requested (and been assured would be available) when we booked. We hoped for better things for the following morning, prior to our departure. We were to be disappointed again. Incredibly, for a region were everything happens early or late, breakfast is only served between 9 and 11. Explaining that we needed to catch a bus at 9 a.m. was met with a shrug.
Avoid unless you really can't do without a pool.
- Momma_J_StL (8/5): Unique hotel close to Donana - Choose this hotel due to proximity to Donana Park. Staff did not speak any English (but we expected that when we made our reservations). Able to communicate with my minimal Spanish written on notebook paper. Staff were helpful. Believe they had breakfast out earlier than usual so we could eat before we left on our tour of Donana. Has a restaurant/bar, but we did not try it. Large unit was very quiet with 2 separate bedrooms plus an open area with seating and dining table. Close to major road, which made it easy to find in a town with mostly dirt roads.
- TrekmanSussex (8/5): Quirky, not for you if you prefer chain type hotels - Stayed here 26th - 30 april 2010, the room was excellent two storey house in typical spanish style with blinds and even a mosquito net, the hotel itself is very spanish and not geared up for foreign visitors, no one spoke any english that includes the staff and reception. We ended up drawing pictures to be understood. It seems to be a work in progress as a large area is still a building site.
The pool was not open until June we were told.
Some of the surrounding shops again a little cold towards foreigners.
To drive around the sandy streets in EL Rocio was an experience !!
the area is excellent for birdwatching, and there is the wonderful beach at Matalacanas a few miles down the road.
- Miek7 (10/5): Excellent and charming hotel !!! - Fantastic beautifull new hotel. Lots of space in the rooms (it''s a little house) Excellent service. Quiet. Proper and tidy. Good food. Very nice people. Beautyfull surrounding.
