• jeansA4551KS (10/5): Great stay at the Russel hotel - Just returned from a 5day Caledonian holiday to Weymouth staying at the Russel Hotel on the sea front. Made very welcome by the cheerful hotel manager, all staff excellent, especially Tracy ...bar manager/ entertainments manager/quiz master/bingo caller. She was fab. Entertainment each evening was great. Food .. good varied menu to suit all tastes, lovely refurbished room with a super walk in shower, and a comfy bed. Thanks tour careing driver Dave for a safe journey .Definitely will return to this hotel in the near future .
• NorthStar19310051844 (8/5): Tired and dated - Our room was very shabby, wallpaper was coming off parts of the wall. The shower cubicle had a crack in it which made it took dirty, our curtains had holes and a split in them, the reception part was clean and tidy compared to the room. The restaurant was clean and welcoming, Jodie our server was really good, food came to the table hot despite the number of guests. The staff make this hotel, they are friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them, We would go back despite the room we had, hopefully in the future all the rooms will be updated.
• Getaway33822722218 (2/5): Spend a little more and stay elsewhere - We stayed for 1 night and unfortunately we won't be staying again. The hotel is very dated, reception I found very rude. When the receptionist was taking my details my husband was referred to as "whats his name"! The fire alarm went off at 4.30am and reception didn't acknowledge it in the morning just said "it happens sometimes" on our way out we had to walk past the receptionists stood in the doorway smoking. On a plus side the bed was comfortable and a nice hot shower.

• 167carolg (10/5): Went here on a Daish Holliday with friends the hotel was nice and clean all staff were helpful outside was bus - The hotel was clean for those who have mobility problems we noted that there was a lot of stairs you have to go down a fight from reception to get to dining room then more steps to bar although there is a lift but lots waiting for it so quicker to use stairs food was ok although had problems with getting eggs how I wanted them at breakfast if you don’t like runny (snotty) then go for scrambled also handy bus stop right outside
• 799margaretc (8/5): Club trip, with friends - Thankyou russell hotel for putting up with us , uou all worked extremely hard with smiles , The new furnished rooms are lovely , The manager went out of his way to help anyone who needed it and so friendly, Entertainment very good and bar manager and staff did brilliant job , food well you cannot please everyone but staff worked hard , nice walk to town , flat takes about 10 mins , Jim our driver was very informative and kept us laughing , good holiday ready gor next years charrabanc,
• wellings17 (6/5): Lovely beach and shopping nearby a walk away from the hotel... - We stayed at the Russell hotel about 5-6 times, and it was ok.. room was a bit dated, clean bedding and towels, No shower gel in the shower, so we had to buy some from the local shop, and we did want a sea view room, but they told me they were booked up, so we were at the back of the hotel building over looking the car park as usual. Would have been good to have a sea view for a change.. But we were told by another guest who had a Seaview room it can get a bit noisy from the traffic.. breakfast was good. Dinner was okay, but the roast dinners we thought vegetables were from frozen.. There was a 3 night half-price bar, so that was good. They have bingo every evening 9pm then at 10.00 pm.. staff were friendly enough.. All was good. We would return because we do like weymouth and hotel was ok for what we paid to stay there..
• davinap687 (6/5): Good value but room 143 was not good due to the sewerage smell - Location excellent - atmosphere great - room beds good and layout- could have done with more space for clothes - TV didn't work properly - on the last night there was a sewerage smell coming from the bathroom - I reported it and hope the problem could be found - food and entertainment were excellent - overall very good value.
• christineeJ6148JL (4/5): Jan 23th 2026 break - Room 139 lovely and refurbished, food bland,cold and the rervice terrible not the waitress fault obviously Daishs don't employ enough staff sometimes reception staff helping out. Been several times to this hotel but not as bad as it was this time. I would look to go somewhere different next time by by DAISHS.
• S636YJsharon (8/5): Nice hotel, but got butt. - Having return Friday,from wet and windy and cold Weymouth. We had lovely time, found things to during day, as In group, we played cards, board game.As there noting on during day. Room. very spacious room, lovely and warm, spare heated, of fan in room. Bed are very soft but comfy.clean room, towel changed daily.We was room 139 which you have to put up with extractor fans from kitchen, very noisy. Don't expect afternoon nap.Was turn off of a nice. One night had to ring reception, to tell them turn them off.Also about 7 am they turn on.(alarm clock). Food.Was was ok, bit canteen style.The last night was best roast. Entertain. We had lovely time during evening, Entertain every night was very good.Also two lots of bingo, money good ,if u win.And to 66 years old (lol).for calling it.Great laught. Also 3 out4 half price house spirt and wine, till 9pm. Would consider going back, definitely not 139 room.Also136 137, 138. Your room ,smelly like the kitchen,of a Evening. Also went through to other hotel, which was so much warmer, and cosy.
• B4380SDlaurenced (4/5): Awful Daishs should be ashamed - Stayed at the Russel for 3 nights over new year (2025-2026), room was disgusting, torn curtains and one set hanging off the rail. Radiator valve didn't work so heating was on all the time room was sweltering I asked for a maintenance visit which never happened. Had to sleep with the windows open because of the heat then it was very noisy being on a main road. two single beds pushed together but were different heights causing a ridge in the middle of the bed. sign on the door stating sloping floor but was so bad that every time I touched the bedside table all 3 drawers flew open. main staircase was awful with badly replastered areas that had not been repainted, wallpaper peeling off the walls and tape on worn parts of the carpet. we had meals in the Prince Regent next door as we were staying with friends, Hygiene non existent tea pot had clearly not been washed since its previous use and the inside was so bad we didn't drink from it. service was extremely slow with an average of 25 mins wait between courses due to under staffing and food quality extremely poor. wouldn't stay here again if you paid me to

• joannen92 (8/5): Daishs Holiday 4 day break - Our experience lovely refurbished room, breakfast lovely, staff friendly and work really hard, evening meal nice but only had a couple we had meals out. Bingo at night great prizes and music after again only stayed in one night... The only thing that really annoyed me and if they put something in place this could be avoidable, the Management team should address this immediately because it annoyed several people I spoke with the extractor fan which they forget to turn off in the kitchen, every night I rang down to reception not good enough at 10.30 at night very noisy. Would definitely stay again if they addressed this. Room 139

Annex is overlooking car park Not the best of views 😜
• Navigate42152180301 (6/5): Accommodation average, food poor. - We were lucky enough to be in the refurbished area of the hotel so everything was new and in good working order. The bathroom had a good shower but could be improved with the addition of hooks for towels or clothes and a light over the mirror. The staff were friendly and attentive. However the food was very poor quality. Cheap sausages and beans at breakfast with no option for continental style yoghurt and fresh fruit. Tinned carrots and peas came with the evening meal with chicken so overcooked I was unable to cut it with the knife provided. The jacket potato chosen as a safer option the following evening was just as unappetising. However there are some very good restaurants in Weymouth which we used for the remainder of our stay.
• V8658HBbrianw (6/5): Need lots of improvements. - Stayed for 5 nights not sure would stay again. Room poor radiator TRV VALVE never worked so heating on day and night full blast. Had to keep all window's open and keep fan on. We was in a back room over looking carpark. Could only flush toilet every 15 minutes so tank could fill up. Can't understand why the water is so hot got burnt a few times. Bed too soft. Great location found all staff in restaurant good. I had pie one one night rest of party had roast beef and Yorkshire pudding asked waiter if they could get my a Yorkshire pudding not a problem l was brought 2 super homemade. Thanks loved them. Smoking on the stairs leading up to reception is terrible 2 of my party suffer asthma and found it a problem when entering and exiting the hotel steps should be clear at all times. Would be nice to see some plants on display outside 🤔
• Q7998PZjoyces (6/5): Food needs to be better, and fairness in there pricing - Food terrible, Luke warm, badly cooked, not true to menu, ie chicken chasseur was a tough breast of chicken with chopped tomatoes over it ! Slow cooked beef was just sliced beef with gravy ! waiting staff no direction, a calamity, had to scramble for cutlery, if you asked for any more of anything like milk , it was taken of another table people had been using, toast as well, hygiene non existent! faulty towers comes to mind. Room we had was middling, not as clean as it should have been. Manager quite dismissive at check in felt was back at school. Budget food for daishes customers on there special return deals, so if there with another company you are paying sometimes 3 times more, for the cheap food, never again.
• Viksmith24 (2/5): Poor quality and food - Stayed at this hotel as part of a Shearings coach holiday. Very disappointed with most elements of this hotel apart from the service. Hotel room - cramped space for 2 adults - wouldn't want to be any smaller. Draft around the window - had to pack it with toilet paper and rattling noise outside of the window which disturbed our sleep. Reported to the manager to which he just responded that he knew about it (but was never sorted). Food - stayed on a half board basis. All cooked food was poor quality (roast potatoes bland /hard, bread&butter pudding - burnt, fruit crumble - rock hard, fish & chips - fish was watery and tasteless). The only edible food was the salads! On a positive - all staff were friendly, pleasant & very helpful.
• 468annep (8/5): Many visits - We booked a 4 night stay at the Russell hotel that we have stayed at several times. We love Weymouth as it's very flat and you have all the shops you need in walking distance. When we booked we were told there were only premium rooms left which cost an extra £40 the room was not worth the extra money. We have stayed in the newly refurbished rooms before and never had to pay the extra £40. They have staggered the breakfast times and it would be nice if they did the same at the dinner service.

• Tourist64767107684 (10/5): Great hotel in great location .beach front .walking distance to town centre and amusements and the marina - Second time staying at the Russell hotel ,but this time i took my daughter and 3 grandchildren 4 yr old and twins 5 month old .can i just say the staff were very welcoming and accommadating throughout the hotel .Our waiter Dave and the chef were very attentive to our and my grandson during meal times as were all the staff .They even recieved a small gift on arrival at the hotel .The hotel is in fantastic location with the beach right outside .The amusements 5 minute walk up the front and the town centre with everything youll need.The opposite way just 10 minute walk is a paddling pool and sand pit ajoining the beach .also just across the road is the sealife centre and sand world .Regular buses take you to lots of beautiful places to visit .I will be returning to weymouth again and again
• MonkeySwinger (8/5): Could have stayed longer - Went with friends on a Skills Holidays tour. Nice old fashioned hotel on the Esplanade with sea front views. I was in a small room at the back of the hotel. It was OK but a bit dated while my friends had a great view of the sea from theirs. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar and entertainment good. A good choice of reasonable quality food. The hotel could do with more than one lift. The one they have is quite small for the number of guests many of whom were elderly with mobility problems. The huge demands on the lift meant long waits at times as it went up and down bypassing our floor before eventually deciding to stop for us. At least it didn’t break down which would have made things worse.
• G1583BFchristines (8/5): Nice atmosphere in hotel - Just had 4 days at Russell Hotel. Paid extra for premium room. The bathroom was immaculate and the room recently refurbished altho rather small. TV limited channels. The breakfast choices were excellent BUT the vegetarian evening meals needs some imagination put into it. Very poor selection. However I would visit again.
• wendybJ7771HC (4/5): The photographs on their website are all of the ground and first floors that have been refurbished - my cousin and I went with Shearings to this hotel for a five day stay. the coach was an hour late picking us up due to an accident on the motorway. We eventually arrived at the hotel at 18.40. we went to our room after dinner. That's when the fun started. third floor room the narrow passageway from the door into the room sloped up and sideways it was like being on the moving floor in the fairground. The chest of drawers at the top of the passageway sloped so much that when I opened the drawer it slammed shut just like the till in Open All Hours. There was paper peeling on the walls and evidence of past water damage to the ceiling. The shower curtain didn't reach the shower tray and there was only one small shelf in the bathroom. The most worrying aspect of all was the windows. There was a small window open about 3 inches and the big window wouldn't open at all. It was nailed, or so it seeemed, shut. We reported it twice to reception and all they did was open the small window wider. If a fire had started outside our room we wouldn't have stood a chance. The icing on the cake was that on the Wednesday night about 9pm I realised the toilet wouldn't flush. the reason ( when I contacted reception) was that there was an air lock on the third floor and it would be dealt with in the morning. We had to resort to flushing the toilet with kettles full of water. My cousin has photographs of all the faults which are listed.

• Clifford (8/5): - The refurbished room was excellent. The room was cleaned very well. The evening entertainment was good. The food and service was fine. The only negative was the lack of much parking.
• 879glenisw (6/5): Faulty towers still going strong. - This is one of the dirtiest Hotels I have ever been in,Dressing Table. Covered in dust and Tea Stains. Filthy toilet no toilet brush. So made the staff come and clean it. The food was passable but the waiter service was very erratic Dirty tea Pots, dirty cups dirty glasses.the view from the bedroom window was a wall with water pouring all over the ground. With cigarette ends and garbage. And the Manager had a couldn’t care less attitude. Breakfast was hit and miss whether you got Marmalade and Jam or not and some people had no butter. Door lock partly loose with screws half way out, so anyone could easily break in. Often no one on reception at night so anyone could walk in So will I stay here again, NEVER EVER.
• W1116CSallisonh (2/5): Sleeping in a pigeon coop! - Our room was filthy. The net curtains were ripped to pieces. Outside the window there was a massive net. Full of pigeon droppings. The whole window surround was packed with droppings. It was like sleeping in a pigeon coop. The room was so hot, with absolutely no air. Whatsoever. Very unpleasant. The breakfast was another adventure. The cereal was stale, the fruit juice was warm. The tea and coffee jugs were filthy. The continental consisted of an ok croissant, crispy cheese slice, curly ham, a black banana, and a warm gone off yoghurt. The bread had seen better days. Not a very good experience at all.
• Rux277 (4/5): Where is the room in the brochure surely this can't possibly be it. - My cousin and I spent 4 days in the Russell Hotel. We selected this hotel because it was on the seafront and Shearings brochure showed it to be a well appointed hotel. All was not as it seemed. The first floor was as the brochure and must admit after a long journey we were relieved. We were given the keys to our room on the 3rd floor and to say we were aghast is playing the emotion down. The window was fastened so that it could not be opened and the handle removed. The top light was open about 2" and there was a sign in the window to ask us not to feed the gulls. That couldn't happen even if we wanted too as there wasn't enough room. We reported this as a H & S issue to reception and asked to be moved as presumably if there was a fire in the corridor we would be unable to get out. No empty rooms in the hotel but they would send a maintenance man up the following day to sort. On this particular Monday when we arrived the temp was around 32 degrees so to say that the room was hot is an understatement. A floor fan was not a lot of use as fresh air coming in is needed to exchange with the fan otherwise its just exchanging hot air in the room. Day 2 when we looked at the room properly after a very trying night we noticed a large hole in the curtain made by a cigarette, not ours I might add as non smokers. A hole in the wall by the door which had obviously been opened with force. A door stop had been introduced at some stage but the hole which was some 3" of broken plaster had been left. The handyman attended while we were out and opened the top light a further inch which was as far as it would go. Bedding I really wouldn't have used with a rip at the bottom. Cracks in the ceiling and walls, paper peeling and a walk to the bathroom was eventful as the floor sloped to the right which meant you were leaning on the wall. The floor in the bedroom was equally as bad, the set of drawers when attempting to put clothes in was equal to Arkwrights till at the speed of closure. On the Wednesday night we went to flush the loo at around 9pm but no luck. Another call to reception who told us there was an air lock in the system and the problem would be sorted in the morning, All rooms on floor 3 were affected some 39 rooms. Just the sort of thing you want to happen in the middle of a heat wave. Endless kettles of water during the night to ensure dysentery didn't follow. Shearings I do believe you also should be answerable as you were the ones we put our trust in and paid. I must say however the staff couldn't have been more helpful but I imagine they get a lot of practice at managing or trying to manage clients expectations. • X2066GWjoannec (6/5): Rooms need updating Asap - Great staff team nothing to much bother, nice clean hotel and right on the sea front, The only downside to our stay was our room, extremely out dated, all furniture mix and matched, wallpaper peeling off walls; damp stains on ceiling and mould, vent in bathroom full of dust, paint coming of ceiling, mould on wall, shower curtain stained and mouldy at bottom. The bed base looked liked a cat had been scratching at it. Really not worth £166 per night with breakfast included.
• 65susano (6/5): Not recommended - Booked a 4 night stay with my mom with Mystic isle travel I was concerned with the bad reviews but they assured me it was acceptable for the price & I couldn’t expect a 5* experience Our twin room on 3rd floor was just ok, the shower & tv worked, the beds were clean & the loo flushed It wasn’t spotless & the window didn’t open so not so good The breakfasts were ok but the evening meals were hit & miss & the servers didn’t like being hurried & if the wrong meal was brought they didn’t replace you just ate what you had or went without, I felt they were looking after the Daish clients more than us. The bar staff & entertainment however were great & the chap who served us at lunchtime in the coffee shop was very helpful Some of our party had worse rooms & done better as the hotel is being refurbished I would not stay again nor would I recommend
• Guide31038342471 (10/5): View of paradise - After reading all the reviews I was a bit concerned about my booking but once there I was amazed. Yes we did have a recently updated room as a triple bed number 22 and it was amazing. The bathroom was very big with walk in shower which had a lot of power. Very clean every where and the beds were so comfy. Did ask for more pillows but that is down to preference Small.carpark at the rear but bus stops were plenty one of which was right outside the front. Restaurant was you ordered the morning before ,as we booked through third party we didnt have the half board option. Food was a 3 course meal cost £17 95 each. Nice choice and very well presented. The bar had friendly staff and very good entertainment. Coffee shop was pleasant and would even do you a packed lunch for you to take on your travels. I would definitely book there again.
• 293jent (2/5): Filthy and Scruffy - Rooms and hotel desperately need updating. However there is no excuse for the absolute filth and disrepair we encountered. We couldn't hang our clothes in the allotted cupboards as it was so dirty. The picture above the bed was covered in dust. There was a fan switched on in the room when we arrived which was blowing dust clouds and dust around the room. The colour of the woodwork was dingy but when I cleaned it with a wet wipe the dirt came away. My husband wiped the wall with a white towel which also came away covered in dust. I went to close the sash window and it was also covered in grime. The dining room was canteen style with barely room to walk between the tables. The water jugs were dirty. The dishes holding sachets of sauce, sugar etc were absolutely disgusting. We approached staff twice to ask for a better room but were rebuffed both times. They weren't bothered at all! We will never return here and would advise potential travellers to avoid at all costs
• C1809TRpault (2/5): Russell Hotel in Weymouth - One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. The room was dirty and reception either couldn't or wouldn't offer a replacement. The cooked breakfast was barely warm and my grapefruit segments had a fly crawling all over. Although the waiter took the grapefruit away it was never replaced. Overall the hotel is pretty much run down and nothing like it shown on the website.

• cazzarose (10/5): Brilliant hotel - We stayed for 4 nights with daishs. We payed extra for a premium room and it was worth the extra. The food was lovely and the waiting staff were brilliant. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Great location. On the flat with the beach directly in front of the hotel. We will definitely be returning.

• allisonhJ5376ZB (4/5): Not to stay. I recommend to anybody unless you are in one of the refurbished rooms if you’re not I would forget it. - Honestly it was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I walked in the room. I could’ve quite easily gone back home. I went there with my mother-in-law and my father-in-law passed away at Christmas and I went there to keep her company. She’s partly excited so luckily she didn’t see the room to what it was like the wallpaper is peeling off. There was filling under the bed which was obviously there from the previous guest or the previous guests the walls were damp. There was ceiling bits of ceiling falling down. I asked for a clean duvet cover when I got there the next day there was a new duvet cover but different stain on it. It was just awful. The benefits with the sea view we did have a Seaview the food was very good. I have to say the coffee pots that was served up in the morning for breakfast with filthy. I asked for a clean cup one morning because there was lipstick on it. It already poured the coffee when I noticed so we tipped the coffee that put into the dirty cup into a king cup I watch the waiter drink somebody else’s orange juice and a glass that have been left behind from the previous guest while he was clearing up the entertainment was quite good. The bingo was good. The bar staff were good but the room was awful and filthy and not a very good experience.
• ladieswholunchDarwen (8/5): Beautiful break in Weymouth - We stayed here at the beginning of June in the double premium rooms 145 and 148. Travelled by Daishs coaches which were clean and comfortable and stopped regularly for comfort breaks. All drivers were excellent, in spite of some difficult road situations, especially Rachel who kept us updated and supplied still, sparkling and flavoured water at minimum price. On arrival we were welcomed by the hotel manager who came on to the coach to explain how we needed to complete our evening meal forms before dinner at 6.30 . We did not have to wait for or carry our suitcases as the porters and driver unloaded them from the coach and took them directly to our rooms which was really helpful. There was only one lift which held 6 to 8 people but it was in full working order all of our holiday. Rooms had walk in showers and were immaculately clean and modern, though some of the towels were a bit tatty and needed replacing. Beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows. Room 145 could have done with a shelf in the bathroom area as the pull out drawer under the sink was not suitable for everything you need in the bathroom, plus there were no plastic cups for toothpaste, brushes and rinsing. The dining room was lovely and set out carefully to accommodate so many people. We were in the smaller room, just off the main dining room. Food was good, hot and plenty of choice and our waiter went out of his way to meet all our varying needs, changing things if we were not happy, plus he served us all on a rota basis so the same people did not always get served first . The bar and entertainments area was comfortable and we did quizzes, played Bingo and particularly enjoyed the Elvis Tribute Act. Tracey looked after everyone, had a brilliant sense of humour and went out of her way to accommodate the needs of everyone. Whilst there we used the local buses and went to Bridport, West Bay {where Broadchurch was filmed) and Dorchester. The hotel provided us with helpful bus timetables, local buses went from the terminal ten minutes walk away. A special mention to the hotel manager who was immediately there with a mop and bucket and cleaned up some "spillage" in the lift promptly when we drew it to his attention. On departure day we were advised to leave our suitcases outside our rooms by 6.30 am so our cases were taken directly on to the coaches home, which was really helpful. A well managed hotel, well done to all the helpful and friendly staff.
• elizabethl211 (4/5): Give this hotel a miss if you need a single room. - Just returned from the Russell hotel for 5 day stay with daish's coaches. Will not be returning. Requested a low floor on booking which was dismissed out of hand on arrival. Given room 335 which is actually in the attic or appears to be. Room.was dingy small but the heat in the room was almost unbearable had a window that opened about 6 inches and a house brick provided to keep it open. Only relief from the heat was to leave the door open when in the room obviously not applicable for the night time which made sleep almost impossible. The bed was awful small enough for a child squeaked on every movement. Decor was dingy drab and very dated. Food was just about average restaurant staff helpful and polite. Manager very stand offish and uninterested on arrival when I enquired as to a low floor room which I requested on booking in February. Would not return to this hotel I think the single rooms in this hotel are totally unsuitable for a guest room to enjoy any kind of holiday. Not recommended.
• Compass46589517962 (8/5): A break enjoyed by all from pick up to drop off. - Just returned from a four day break with two Deaf and hard of hearing groups. Yes the hotel looks tired in parts but the staff went out of their way in trying to communicate with and make sure the Deaf had all that they needed at all times. Dave, our driver was wonderful in taking all the wheel chairs and walkers out every time we stopped. His deaf awareness made every outing a good experience for all. There were two areas where I think some more thought should be put in (apart from stopping the rain!). Closing the coffee shop in reception and forcing people to walk to the hotel next door to buy drinks when so many have mobility issues doesn't make a lot of sense. Especially when that place was empty of customers . Very few people knew that they could go next door as word by mouth is not something Deaf people follow. We can not be the only people who are Deaf or hard of hearing who visit who like to play bingo. The numbers screen is too small to see on the larger screens . Being Deaf we are unable to hear the numbers being called so need to see the numbers on the screen. Maybe a way of enlarging the numbers could be found. We were given reserved seats after the first night which helped our interpreter to sign the numbers. Those of us without BSL still couldn't see the bingo machine screen as our reserved seating was behind the caller. I'm impressed with all the help the staff gave our members.....just need to tweak a few things for all Deaf and hard of hearing people to fully enjoy the evening entertainment. The sister hotel was even worse regarding the bingo so hope the rain damage wasn't too bad to reopen the lounge soon. Thank you for all you did.
• 364lucyk (10/5): Great hotel in brilliant location. - I travelled with my 9 year old son, first time visiting weymouth and using this hotel. Hotel was ok needs some TLC in some of the rooms but this wouldn't stop us returning. Staff very friendly and approachable, food was very nice we cant fault any of the meals we had. Our waitress Toni was lovely and we didnt have to wait long for meals it was very fast service. We had a sea veiw room and The beds were very comfortable and clean. The location of hotel is perfect,right on the sea front. We can't wait to book again.
• billywR8964PM (10/5): Anniversary celebration - The hotel and all staff were very helpful the food was absolutely brilliant the bar prices were very cheap my wife and I went for our 59 wedding anniversary and really enjoyed ourselves and we will be returning very soon The artists were great and the bingo ( I won ) if you wanted a bus to out somewhere you stepped out the hotel and right there was the bus stop the town itself has plenty of shops cafes and pubs everything was brilliant just try the Russell Hotel you will enjoy
• kentMay (6/5): Good value. - Stayed here on a break with daishes. lts an old large hotel on weymouths pleasant seafront. If you are going to stay here opt for Seaview.. pretty sure they're the nicer rooms. The traffic is noisy till late though. First impressions for everyone are the dirty steps and mats leading to entrance. This continues with painted flat surfaces and doors grimy and very dusty..why they aren't bothered to just wipe everything with a wet cloth lve no idea. However my room was clean. l was on 2nd floor. There was a minor issue with the very loose lock on our door.. recently decorated, beds tiny but OK and the shower was hot and powerful which was appreciated. 2 fans and good hairdryer. The hotel seems always warm, so should imagine summer months very warm. Dining room basement level..very warm..hectic and sooo noisy with chatting guests all cramped in together with low ceilings. Staff worked hard and were friendly . Food hit an miss , plenty of choices that you can have, tables set out nice. puddings were yum. No one should be hungry after meals. Bar fine .entertainment with singers. Bingo and quiz every night. Reception ok, got helped with printed out timetables for buses. Main bus stop 10 minutes walk where you can go lots of great places. weymouth clean good facilities, good shops too.lots of gift shops.Funfair, pedalos, boat trips. All in all Russell hotel is a basic good value hotel that has its issues but shouldn't ruin your stay.

• juliecX7834MF (2/5): Disappointed stay. - The only positive feature about the Russel Hotel was the sea view. The decor in the room was shabby. Some rooms had been refurbished but not room 151 There were items from previous guest left behind the bed on the floor. The carpet had not been hoovered. The bathroom floor was dirty. Signs visible showing hot water to hand basin. The shower had a lever tap not a thermostatic control bar which a guest would be able to control the temperature of the flow of hot or cold water. The level tap while in the shower could not regulate. I was scolded while having a shower. My scalp was sore for days. I was able to move quickly if not I would have had to go to hospital. I reported this to the receptionist. The response was sorry n will report it. I do hope it's changed. The smell from the drains in the toilet areas adjacent to the bar/lounge area were foul. A special menu our group was provided for our stay. What can I say. I have never had tasteless food before. When u stay in a hotel you look forward to your meals. Not in this case. I tried nearly every meal but none of it was even good.
• T9447FIpatricias (4/5): Avoid the Russell Hotel, Weymouth - Very bad experience, my room was right at the top of the hotel and two days in a row my electricity supply was cut off, tried to phone reception no one answerd. Went down to reception explained the fault receptionist said the fuse kept blowing and she would fix it, told to go back to my room and it would be fixed, i did this and after 15 mins there was still no electricity so tried to phone reception again, no response so had to go back down to reception again and the receptionist said oh sorryi forgot. I was not amused. Reception staff is very bad. Food was poor. Bedroom decor was tatty.

The Manager was very helpful and worked hard, even helping to serve the food on one occasion. The hotel was lovely and clean with very polite staff. We had a wonderul waiter, Dan Harper to whom nothing was too much trouble. Near to us there was a table of 6 ladies who kept changing their minds about their order and Dan didn't complain at all. He did everything asked of him very patiently. We paid extra for a sea-view and I'm so glad we did. There was also the opportunity to go to the Hotel next door to watch their entertainment if you weren't keen on the evening's performance at the Russell but all the entertainment was very good, at either hotel. We'd love to come back soon. Thank you so much
• wendybV9970GK (2/5): Sewage coming up the toilet aggressive management team - AVOID AT ALL COSTS THIS US MY FEEDBACK TO THE HOTEL I would like to inform you about the dreadful experience I have just had at your Russell Hotel in Weymouth, I arrived from West Midlands on April 29th to celebrate my 65th birthday and I was accompanied by my sister who is considerably older than myself it was intended to be a treat for us both, I booked a sea view room which was clean and we got unpacked and settled in we had our meal and watched some of the entertainment then returned to the room and went to bed, I woke at approximately 1am needing to go to the toilet just for a wee as I flushed the toilet sewage came up the toilet and onto the floor of the bathroom the smell as you can probably imagine was disgusting the phone in the room was not working so I could not contact reception so I went downstairs where I found 2 security personnel on duty I explained my situation and I was told this is a regular occurrence there is a knack to fix it but it's best if you leave it until the morning as evidence that it has happened I then returned to my room and woke my sister as I did not want her going into the bathroom unaware of what had happened and risk her slipping over on the wet floor so I then had to go downstairs with her so she could use the toilet in the reception area. I returned to the reception at 7am morning of 30th April (my birthday) there was a young lady on duty I explained the situation and she came to my room with me she was very understanding and said she would give us the key to another room so we could use the shower but she had no authority to do anymore until the manager came in late morning so as we had booked on the day trip we got ready and went out for the day. I informed the lady making the beds about the toilet as she was coming into our room as we were going out and she also said oh that always happens here, I had asked earlier if we could have a refund as we wanted to go home my sister was getting very agitated at this stage and worrying she may pick something up if there are problems with the drains etc and we were breathing in the awful smell I was told the manager would sort it out on return from the day trip. On return I approached the desk and explained who I was to your Manager he was very rude and aggressive he shouted at me there is not a problem it is a blocked toilet this happens have you not known a toilet to block before I have been to your room and unblocked it I then said I am worried in case it happens again and explained what the security man had said about the reoccurring problem during the night he again got aggressive and said that is not what he said to me there is no problem so because I felt very intimidated by this aggression I had no choice but to return to the room where I found the toilet had been unblocked but there was faeces all around the bowl, again I returned to reception to your manager who addressed me with yes what now I said the toilet is unblocked but it is dirty he said go back to your room I will come and clean it within five minutes the assistant manager Belinda arrived as I showed her into the bathroom and thanked her for coming she rudely and aggressively said you do not need to be in here I know how to clean a toilet I really cannot believe the aggression and rudeness of your management team is this the service you want your customers to receive? I am so upset and shocked then after our meal I was given a birthday cake I just wanted a nice break away not all this drama, on the evening of the 2nd May while getting ready to go down for our meal a maintenance man let himself into the room saying I thought you were out I have come to unblock the toilet he said the drains are all blocked and it's coming from this area I asked is this a recurring problem and he said yes they are always getting blocked he flushed the toilet twice and went saying yours seems to be okay now, while we were all eating our evening meal the whole of the restaurant filled with the smell of drains sewage and poo it was awful and it was making people heave and leave their food, as we left the restaurant the workmen were carrying buckets of sewage past us in the corridor again it was awful I have never experienced anything like that before there was no announcement to apologise everyone was just ignored it was totally disgusting. I am not even expecting a reply to this email even though I feel I should be having a refund if only to compensate for your managers rudeness and aggressive attitude but looking at the standards I really don't think anyone cares as long as people and mostly elderly people continue to book they will be abused and exploited.

The manager did his best to make sure that everything was ok but he was struggling with a staff shortage. The majority of the bedrooms have been upgraded and are absolutely beautiful.

• alangH1462BH (4/5): Nice room,shame about the rest. - The room was very clean and modern,shower room was new but no grab rail or soap dish in cubicle.no hooks on doors not enough coat hangers. Full height window with no nets or blind, just curtains,no privacy. Without drawing curtains other guests could see in and visa-versa. Security strap on opening window not secured. Bed comfortable and TV adequate. Dining room like a school canteen. Instead of staggering meals everybody came in at one time Staff were rushed off their feet. Our table top was loose and rocked up and down making meal times very uncomfortable. Some food just about okay but most was quite poor. One morning my wife got half a rashers of bacon. One dinner time we both had Eton mess, I call would it a mess. It was like a sloppy angel delight with a few bits of fruit in it. I asked if our table could put right or changed after first dinner. Waiter said he would see to it but nothing was done,we just had to put up with it. The management treated guests as though they were in an old folks home. All rules and regulations and mealtimes were printed in rooms but manger asked everyone to be in dining room 15 minutes earlier on first night so he could reiterate all the rules again. Not necessary. Also having to have cases outside rooms by 6-30am on day of leaving a bit silly when breakfast not until 8am. Won't be returning.

• Groovy1950 (8/5): Top rate 4 night break with Shearings in Weymouth - My husband and I went to Weymouth last week for a 4 night break. It was superb, just as we expected. I think some of the negative reviews written on here must be done by some VERY critical people; I'm not sure why they would do this. Maybe it is their hobby! The Russell does need some updating but why focus on this, including negative photos? It would be nice to have a new "Russell" blind at the front as that makes the hotel look shabby and yes, some of the windows could do with painting but this didn't deter from having a great holiday. The location is great overlooking the sea, with a bus stop outside and the hotel is very cosy/we were never cold; the food is top rate in every way, with so much choice and happy staff who look like they enjoyed working there. It was served very hot and promptly so not one thing to complain about. The logistics of running a big hotel like that must be enormous but Savio is a top rate manager. Wi-Fi is good in the lounge but we used 4g in our top floor bedroom. It would be helpful to have some basic ladies toiletries on sale. The entertainment on Monday and Wednesday was SO loud we had to go upstairs; it was too loud to chat to new-found friends. When "Elvis" asked for a request, someone said "please play much quieter". On Tuesday and Thursday, the music was great with perfect volume and a variety of wonderful old songs. The coach itself was very comfortable and we couldn't fault the driver, Steve. Our pick up and drop off times were late at Victoria but everything evened out going, and we arrived at Weymouth in good time. Our weather was perfect all week; a little cloud but overall, sunny. All the town of Weymouth is flat with lots of paths, along the front to the east and the west. Radipole Lake, a RSPB reserve is within 15 minutes walk of the hotel. Here's to our next Shearings holiday!
• deemG3264ZD (6/5): First Daish Experience - Having read reviews of The Russell, my expectations were low but, considering the low price, was prepared to give it a go. The pickup and travel, with a comfort break was good. Check in was friendly and quick...admittedly was one of the first off the coach. The room was a single, with single bed, as expected, and sadly the decor and furnishings were as expected, very shabby and tired. No amount of cleaning would ever make the room feel clean. The bed was very comfy though. I understand that refurbishment of the hotel is in progress. Weirdly, even with the heating off and the window open all night, the room, 130, was warm all the time, which I couldn't cope with. I spoke to reception and they cheerfully and quickly, gave me another room, still shabby but had a seaview...and sea breeze! I greatly appreciated being able to change. I had an issue with no power in the room a couple of days later and the maintenance men came out in 15 minutes and sorted it. Great service. The food was plentiful and good. The dining room staff were amazing, always rushed off their feet but always cheerful and keen to make sure the guests were looked after. A big shout out to Dan...loved his helpfulness and banter. The bar staff were great too. All the staff definitely made up for the shabby rooms and I hope they are appreciated. I'm sure I will return to The Russell again but, not until all the rooms have been refurbished. Meanwhile, I will be booking another Daish holiday to a different location.
• susaneY7897GI (2/5): Need another holiday to get over this one. - Food disgusting. Rooms not clean. There must have been at least one years thick dust on the wardrobe door rail. I bought it to the attention of the manager who replied he would get someone to clean it, then walked off, no apology. I departed the hotel four days later it still had not been cleaned. Dinning room waiters need training, ( lean across the table to serve clients. Instead of serving from behind) Tables not laid out properly. Missing condiments,no butter, the list goes on. Worst Hotel that I have ever stayed in. Could not wait to get home.

We got moved to new room, great shower and very comfy bed. Food was very good, only complaint was toast often burnt. Entertainment very good. We will return. Staff work very hard. Great manager.
• 512catht (10/5): Another happy Daishs stay at the Russell Hotel - Yet another great trip with Daishs. The hotel has been refurbished and the room and walk in shower were great. The location is good with a bus stop outside and the beach across the road. The food choice is great value and the entertainment (quiz, bingo and a different singer each night) is fun. We especially enjoyed the Elvis singer. The staff really looked after us during our stay and made us feel valued.

• Patsy (6/5): - Being in room 19 was nice being on the ground floor but unfortunately the stairs leading upstairs and the people above was quite loud. Staff were helpful The Hotel is dated but overall we had a good stay.
• Verified traveler (6/5): - We arrived about an hour early and as the room was ready we were allowed to check in. The room was basic and looked ok at first however, the floor had a noticeable slope and where the beds were positioned you were sleeping on a downward trajectory. The mattresses were not comfortable at all they were so hard sleeping on the pavement would have been more comfortable. The bedding was very thin so if you get cold I would suggest taking a blanket. There was barely enough to get past the bottom of the bed and we kept stubbing our toes on the end of the divan base. The bathroom was on however the shower was set on a temperature which was way to hot and was not easy to regulate, the toilet was very low so if you have any mobility issues it’s difficult to get up. There was blue cleaner residue down the side of the sink and there were coffee spills down the wall by the coffee station. The view from the broken sash window was however beautiful.

• Sapphire (6/5): - The hotel was in close proximity of the seafront and a short walk from the town centre. The area was quiet and pleasant. The hotel itself was reasonable but very outdated and tired, and the room we stayed in had scaffolding up, right outside our window (Unavoidable sometimes, but unfortunately an eyesore).The water pressure on the shower was terrible, so showering was not a great experience. The cooked breakfast was average, but waiting staff very friendly and approachable. The reception staff allowed us to keep our luggage for the day after we checked out, which we greatly appreciated. With a little TLC, the hotel could be a lovely establishement.
• Lisa (6/5): Short stay to see family - Hotel is very tired looking. Room had wallpaper pealing off. Paintwork scruffed on doors. Inside wardrobe was very scruffy needs a good link of paint and a complete refresh.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Poor service - I arrived at The Russell Hotel at check in time and waited 40 minutes at reception. I ended up having to go down to the restaurant and ask a waitress to find the receptionist, after asking the bar man several times with no help. When the receptionist did arrive she was unapologetic saying she was too busy serving food to guests.
• Nick (2/5): Stinking attitude! - looked forward to a one night stay as we were celebrating our anniversary with family.... We should of been able to check in at 3,00pm... At 5.30 we were told at reception the room was not ready and didn't know when it would be! We asked we needed to know as we were going out at 6.30pm... Very sarcastic tone by the receptionist. As I said this is not good enough and walked away a room became available??? I would say the worst room that could offer plus no towels!! Down to reception again and was told they dont allocate rooms. hotels.com do?? We were told the washer driers had been playing up hence no towels.. We did get towels just in time to take a shower! A very poor experience and many other elderly people were told the same after they had traveled hours and could not get into their rooms. Wouldn't stay there again even if hotel.com paid.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Splendid - I was really suprised...i took what was left when booking as nothing else in Weymouth was available being as we are unable to travel abroad due to Covid...we even took a twin room ...the room was spotless..great shower pressure plenty of hot water...even had a sea view...beds were amazingly comfortable with big fluffy pillows and duvets to match...couldn't fault this hotel at all ..would definitely stay there again...Shame about the woman that checked us in ...had an foreign accent short brown hair said she owned the place also very unkind to her employees in front of customers.
• Arnie (8/5): Lovely - It was great we where just less than 100 meters away from the beach and we can hear the waves, it sounded just like a few steps away. Just slightly nosiy during rush hours in the morning with the cars passing by but apart from that everythings okay

• Verified traveler (6/5): - I stayed here with my wife a 2 sons, the view from the rooms was excellent and my room was adequate and had comfortable beds. Unfortunately the room my son's were using the cleanliness left a lot to be desired' There were hairs in the bed and shower and it appeared there had been some electrical work taking place as there were off cuts of wire insulation and plaster dust on the floor. The amount of people not wearing face coverings in the public areas was also disappointing given the current pandemic. Finally despite being told there was carparking on site this is very limited and initially i was told parking was full and I would have to use a public car park 10 minutes walk away. Anybody who has visited weymouth will know the cost of parking is close to daylight robbery. Fortunately a member of staff was leaving and offered me his space.

• Russell (4/5): - The toilet was very dirty, not cleaned. Dressing table full of dust. No parking as advertised we had to pay £10.50 at the railway station to park and walk 10 minutes back to hotel . I would never recommend this hotel
• Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel is in a super location. We booked a seaview twin. We were given an accessible ground floor room. We never wanted this and the manager did change this although it was not easy. Our room was dated but high ceilings and lovely view. Car parking is in a blocked in car park. When we wanted to leave the car blocking us in was not traceable so it was a stressful time for us. Restaurant food on lower floor was ok. But I think in current climate they should stagger serving times. 8:30 breakfast for all!

• Eloise (4/5): - Room was nice enough - clean and large. It was extremely hot but thankfully i had a fan in the car. I’m a deep sleeper but the noise was horrendous- my room adjoined a staircase so i was woken every time someone used the stairs - it was like a thumping noise. lots of creaking floorboards but you expect that in an old hotel so i accept this. the stairs prevented me sleeping though. my kids were asleep so i couldn’t ask to move rooms. No info about breakfast on check in so i presumed the usual arrangement in a hotel. In the morning i was told i needed to wait until 8.30. at 8.30 i joined all of the other guests and followed them in to the restaurant. then told b&q guests in the bar -so i expect i could have in fact had breakfast at any time. there were 8 tables and 1 waitress who seemed to use the most inefficient method! eventually we got our orange juice and toast which is all we wanted (about 20 mins wait). then came the car park - i had to wait 45 mins to get my car out of the car park. i am not a grumpy person and i wasn’t particularly in a rush but when you visit the seaside for the day you don’t really want to spend 2 -3 hrs of your morning waiting for breakfast and your car. i have never written a review of a hotel before - i prefer to give my feedback- good or bad - direct to the hotel but on check out no one asked how my stay had been. I wouldn’t stay here again because i felt it expensive and I didn’t get a good night sleep which is what i’d gone to the hotel for.

• Jonathan (4/5): - Not exactly the best hotel I have ever stayed in! Check-in staff very courteous and friendly. However, room was small [unlike pics on Expedia website] unbearably hot, mould on much of the bathroom walls, carpet like a patchwork quilt of various degrees of dirty / worn carpet, cracked tiles in the bathroom, water pressure at best was very poor to non existent and worst of all we were unlucky to have a group of at least 6 drunken guests congregating in the room next door who were laughing, screaming and have a great time between 11.30pm and 3.00am. Despite protests to reception this did not stop. Calls to reception then went unanswered as they obviously did not want to have to deal with me or them again. Happy did not book breakfast as when we left at 8.00am, the queue was around 50m back from the restaurant, up the stairs and back in to reception. No one available behind desk when we wanted to check out and complain so just left after 5 minutes. Forget free parking, lack of spaces and inconsiderate parking by others. Never again!
• Janet (4/5): - Lights didn’t work when we arrived, parking v limited, hotel pretty run down, shower a trickle, but most bizarre of all, breakfast was at 8.30 on the dot and we were told off for being late. We were on our holiday and didn’t want breakfast at 8.30am. Felt more like a boot camp. Very odd. Lovely location on the sea front however
• David (4/5): Get the decorators in - Very dated, shower not working, moth holed curtains and wallpaper peeling off walls, the staff were very nice, but needs a lot of work to bring up to a descent standand
• Michael (6/5): Disappointed. - Disappointed in the fact that bearing in mind it has just reopened it had a tired unloved feeling. The staff, all of them were brilliant BUT the room left a lot to be desired. Peeling wall paper, big cracks in ceiling. Shower useless until repaired. Room at back of hotel was clean but dowdy. Food adequate. Hotel appears to be really for coach customers. NOT casual stayers.
• Tom (6/5): - Nice and friendly staff let down by the quality of the room. Sweltering hot in there, the tap has more power than the shower and no toilet roll for us left in the room. The staff were great with helping but not the greatest of stays.
• Jacob (8/5): - It was a comfortable stay with great location however the and no power behind it and was just like a trickle of water. The wallpaper was falling off the walls. We also almost missed breakfast because it was not explained to us nor did the reception staff answer their phone.

• Karen (10/5): The Russell Hotel - It was a lovely stay at the Russell Hotel~ the staff work so hard and were always friendly and upbeat. Myself and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed it and we will definitely be back

• Aseem (4/5): Old Hotel where the rooms need refurbishing - The location of the hotel is spot on! Facing the Weymouth Sea Front and such a lovely sea front it is. We had not even planned for visiting Weymouth as the original plan was for Lulworth and Corfe. However, the hotel was not too far a drive from both and we really enjoyed the time at Weymouth and even planned visited Portland for the lovely light house. The hotel looks "grand" from outside and the reception is lovely as well. The staff are lovely and amazingly helpful! However, the rooms are shabby and old. The elevator is a pain and stairs are hard to find. Most people that we met did not want to stay in and were happier spending time outside. Despite the lovely staff and wonderful location; I would NOT recommend this hotel.
