Guest Reviews
- Alexandria (10/5): -
- Danish (4/5): Host is highly unprofessional and a bad communicator. - The host had some working knowledge of English but did not understand and communicate much. The location is good. It can be a good option for hostel type stay for solo travelers. 1. The bathroom had absolutely no toiletries.
2. There was no bed. It was a sofa-cum bed and quite shorter in length, thus making a night's sleep quite uncomfortable.
3. No cupboard to store or organize your belongings. There was one cupboard in the room, but it had host's clothes in it and he wanted to come in and out to get his stuff, which disrupted the privacy of living at a place.
4. Host is not proficient in English, is an extremely bad communicator, slightly on the racist side of speech, childish, emotionally manipulative, unprofessional and, unfortunately, a cry baby. If something happens, he will not solve your problem. Instead, he will, first, ignore it. Second, try to blame you. Third, if all fails, he will start crying about his lack of power over anything to do anything.
- Emil (8/5): - A welcoming host, exceptional location, clean room and bathroom. Restaurants and all the most interesting spots are nearby.
- Lei (6/5): - They let me check in early. The host cancelled on me last minute and brought me to his friend's hostel, this was very strange and the room has a tiny bed whereas my initial booking was for a big bed and second floor with a garden view.
- Hassan İsmail Khalil (7/5): -
- Severine (8/5): Bonne adresse - Calme, carré de verdure. Hôte accueillant Difficile à trouver
- Sally (9/5): Superb - Ilgar and his wife were wonderful hosts and we're glad we chose to stay at their place. It was ideal for our overnight stay in Sheki's old town. The accommodation is simple but clean and comfortable. If we had stayed longer we would have enjoyed sitting in the peaceful garden. Ilgar spoke excellent English and helped us with our onward journey to Georgia by train.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Affordable and cozy. The family are kind and helpful. Location has a local vibe. Highly recommended
- Jakub (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raquel (9/5): Cozy room in a beautiful location, and very kind host - Cozy and comfortable room (and guesthouse) in a beautiful location, equipped with everything you need. Ilgar, the host, was very kind, friendly and helpful during all our stay. He spoke English very well and it was very easy to communicate with him.
- Sunil (10/5): Excellent hospitality - Its not a hostel. Its a home away from home Nothing
- Zsofia (8/5): Very good - They speak English and have a lot of experience in tourism. As they didn't have a lot of guests when I stayed there, I got a huge room with private bathroom
The bed was comfortable, everything clean. The breakfast was super, eggs, homemade jam, vegetables, bread.
- Srinivasa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Srinivasa (10/5): Exceptional - The owner Ilqar is a very lovely and humble person.. I have been to many places and stayed but never once I met an owner like Ilqar. What an amazing and caring person he is.. He will make sure you get everything you needed and helps you in and around the city. Will definitely gonna miss this place and the stay..
- Khayala (10/5): Exceptional -
- Serena (9/5): Superb - Ilgar was very kind and always helped us with our requests
The garden is beautiful and relaxed in the morning, an amazing position and a very quiet place.
- Khayala (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pedro (9/5): Very welcoming host Ilgar ready to provide a nice experience - - Owner Ilgar speaks good English and is willing to give the best experience
- There is running drinkable water
- Family house, so people are respectful and it was silent - Heater is small for the size of the room, but Ilgar said that we will change the system soon
- Shower in the middle of the shower, making all bathroom wet, but it’s an Azerbaijani standard. Ilgar said he will renovate the bathroom.
- Pankaj (10/5): Exceptional -
- Khayala (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent host with the highest hospitality
- Horațiu (10/5): Genuine stay in Sheki for a great price - Loved staying in such a cosy home stay. Ilgar is a great host, he speaks very good English and he can help you with anything you want to do in the area. This stay truly feels like a good opportunity to connect with what Azerbaijan has to offer besides Baku. -
- Lan (9/5): Lovely hosts, good location - A simple house with basic facilities, but is super clean and otderly. The hosts are very helpful. The lady always keep kitchen in order. Ilgar helped us with luggage, gave information and advices what to see and how to go. We love our stay there. The share bathroom is quite cold.
- Yan (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location in the old town,The boss is very talkative and a very nice person.
- Joshhad (10/5): Exceptional - Ilqar and his family were wonderfully friendly. We had numerous chats, especially about the history of the area. They were also able to prepare a tasty vegan breakfast of fresh bread, homemade jams, fried seasonal veggies, and a pot of tea, which we ate in the lovely garden. The room has two large windows with mosquito nets (vital in Sheki!).
- Andrew (10/5): Perfect place in Sheki - Such a lovely hostel, perfect location and a treat to stay with Ilgar and his lovely family! We had such a great time talking with Ilgar, enjoying the beautiful courtyard and the neighborhood around the hostel. Would stay again in a heartbeat.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nimi (10/5): Great place to stay! - Ilqar speaks great English, he and his wife are warm, friendly and welcoming. The house is in a perfect location- walking distance to main sights in the old town plus restaurants and shops. The room is clean and comfortable, and the garden is really nice. Thank you for your hospitality
- Mamoona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacob (10/5): Exceptional - Ilqar really goes beyond the needed and is really one of the best people we’ve met in Azerbaijan. And we’ve met a lot of lovely people! Nothing
- Destiny (9/5): Tranquil area, nice home stay - It’s more of a relaxed home stay so not for the people looking for a party hostel. Ilgar was very accommodating and helpful with all your needs. The place is quite dated and the bed was a bit uncomfortable, otherwise the place is clean.
- Mamoona (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. So perfect that I extended my stay 2 times. Nothing. Everything was perfect. Very cooperative family by all means.
- Grzegorz (10/5): Comfortable homestay with a great host - The place is clean, comfortable and nicely located – around 5 minutes walk from the Caravanserai. Ilgar, the host, is a very helpful, talkative and friendly person, one of the best hosts I ever met 😊 He speaks good English and has good knowledge about Seki – both practical (buses, marshrutkas, etc) and historical (about the area's history, palace, ...). Nothing
- Lorena (10/5): Totally welcoming! - My stay at Ilgar's hostel was just amazing. They welcomed me in a really warm way. Spent some evenings talking, sharing experiences and drinking tea.
Ilgar is always ready to give you all the informations that you need.
The room was cozy and clean. The bathroom has warm water.
- Ciro (10/5): Excellent - Everything Nothing
- Munir (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marita (10/5): Great homestay experience - The host, Ilgar and his family are the best. Very kind and willing to help you as much as they can and above. It was a nice homestay experience to get to know more about the local culture. It’s basic and clean. In the garden are some chickens, cats and fruit trees. The location is close to all the highlights.
- Zhenxiang (10/5): Most Outstanding, Welcoming, Clean, Comfortable, Affordable Place in Sheki - Ilgar's place is outstanding!
He is one of the kindest host I have ever met. Ilgar speaks excellent English and would reach you even before your trip starts. Ilgar knew the local bus driver who picked us up from Shamakhi to Sheki, and later drove us directly to Ilgar's place with a small fee (5 Manat). He also led us to the currency exchange desk in the local Bassar where they gave us an excellent rate of 170 Manat with 100 USD. Amazing!
The place is on the hill a little bit, and is within walking distance to bus stops and all attractions. The room is spacious, clean, and shower water warm enough.
I would definately recommend staying with Ilgar's hostel for two or three nights and enjoy this beautiful city. Nothing! Ilgar is amazing.
- Omar (9/5): Superb -
- Kate (10/5): Perfect stay in Sheki - Ilgar's is a great place to stay. It is close to the karavansary & the old city sites.
Ilgar & his wife are really lovely people who go out of their way to welcome & help guests, we were immediately made to feel part of the family.
Ilgar is incredibly knowledgeable & helpful & organised our registration.
We had a fantastic experience here & would definitely recommend.
- Nell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kriton (9/5): Great place to stay if you like the location. - Comfortable, nice room with home feeling. Good heating in cold weather, clean and quiet.
Running, drinkable water in the garden, from a well or spring. Location is good if you want to stay near the castle, but there is little choice for restaurants/shops, etc,so if you want to hang out with people around you,a more central place will be better. And the hostel is not easy to find.
- Andrew (7/5): Good - I recommend booking the private dorm with the private bathroom. In this room, I was very comfortable and the standard of the property improved immensely. I was originally placed in one dorm that was below my expectations, but hey, it's a hostel. The important part was the property was secure, the rooms had locks, and Ilgar, the owner, was a very sweet and accommodating man who addressed every one of my needs as if it were a hotel.
- Jacob (8/5): Very good -
- Matteo (9/5): Lovely stay in Sheki - We spent 2 nights in Ilgar’s guesthouse.
Our stay was agreeable:
Room was big with private bathroom and the guesthouse was 5 minutes walking from the city centre of old Sheki.
Ilgar prepared breakfast with homemade gem and fresh products.
I recommend it ! 😊
- Pranav (10/5): Overall a great stay for someone who wants affordable accommodation with a very helpful host. - It's a calm old home in a location slightly off the main roads. It is still very close to the main Karavan Saray.
The best part about this property is the host himself. He is the most friendly and kind person I found in AZ. He is genuine, human, friendly and goes extra mile to help his guests. The bathroom could have been better. It was a little tiny and had a moist smell of kinds.
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional - Ilgar's guesthouse was the perfect place to stay in Sheki. It's great value for money and Ilgar and his family are so kind. I stayed in the female dorm and it was very comfortable. A great place to chill out and the breakfast is really good too!
- Nicole (8/5): Very good - Ilgar is really friendly!
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and facilities - wifi, and a nice bathroom. The host was really kind and helped with directions, bus times and hiking routes.
- Ulf (10/5): Sweet and attentive host and a great place to stay, both location and comfort wise. - I found Ilgar’s hostel in Lonley planet. I was a little weary getting from Sheki to Tbilisi would prove complicated so I wanted to make a reservation with someone I believed could help me out. Ilgar did not disappoint. Thanks to him I could relax and I made it to Tbilisi with absolutely zero issues. He even texted me after I left to make sure everything was ok. I couldn’t be happier. Also both Ilgar and his wife really are really sweet and Ilgar’s English is the best I heard any Azeri speak during my time in Azerbaijan. For the money the single bedroom where I stayed is really good value. Especially since you stay close to both restaurant Gagarin (which has a formidable view, really quite something) and Karvansaray. Breakfast was great too. Should I return to Sheki I will return to Ilgar’s. Highly recommended! Nothing really. For the money you get more than you actually pay for.
- Abdul (10/5): Exceptional - Everything
Especially the hospitality Nothing
- Anneke (7/5): Good location, friendly place - The location is great! Very close to the sights, around the corner from a decent restaurant, and not too far from hiking starting points. The owners were also very helpful in explaining how to get there and checking if there was anything I needed. It's a real local experience and very much a homestay. I was upgraded to a private bathroom which was nice. It was all very clean. I could use the kitchen to make tea. The fresh mountain air outside! The wifi was a bit slow, even with restarting it did not always work properly. There was an unpleasant odour from the bathroom. The bed was a sleeper couch and not so comfortable. The house is not soundproof at all - it is after all an old house. (The family wasn't noisy but you hear things - the area around is super quiet)
- Dolly (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place and helpful .. enjoyed staying at ilgar hostel. Would recommend this place.
- Ahmed (10/5): Exceptional - the room was vast and clean and Ilgar is super helpful person. The bed was comfortable and all amenities were there. definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Sheki. nothing.
- Sara (10/5): A nice place to stay in Sheki - Lovely guesthouse located on a quiet lane in the old city. Spacious and clean room. Hot shower with good water pressure. Attentive and helpful owner Ilgar who speaks great English and is able to give advice on bus timetables and how to access Kis. Bring earplugs as there is not much soundproofing. Bring an eye cover as well because the light for the outdoor toilets is left on all night and shines into the room. Wifi signal weak but usable in the room.
- Yedhu (10/5): Amazing - Loved everything about this place! The person in charge was very sweet and friendly and helped me a lot! AC wasn’t working but he said it’llbe fixed soon
- Mara (10/5): Amazing host - Beautiful House! - Ilgar is a very nice host, super attentive and always super helpful with every single request we made.
We spent 2 beautiful days in his house and it was just perfect.
The room was spacious and clean with clean bathroom and hot water (not so common in Azerbaijan :))
The house has a very nice garden! I love it.
Ilgar can give you help with all the information you need to stroll around the city, for hiking and the best food in town.
Breaksfast is super good as well!
I really recommend to stay here! Nothing
