Guest Reviews
- Shelby (10/5): - The owner was so sweet and polite, took the time to explain the area and the busses/subways and how to get to all the popular areas! Bonus was the guard cat who always greeted me when I got back later in the evening 😁
- Diego (10/5): - A unique experience in a traditional Japanese located in a convenient area. Staff were helpful and friendly, promptly replying to any queries online. As a Westerner (Spanish) I was worried about the futons being uncomfortable, but it was not the case at all. Highly recommended.
- Brian (10/5): - Host was very nice and accomodating. Let us borrow umbrellas when it rained, we were able to check in early after arriving in Kyoto early.
- Kamel (6/5): - - Hotel was centralled located and host was helpful.
- Rooms were small.
- Asking for 100 yens to have a towel is bad look.
- Billy (10/5): - It was a nice and cozy, great host!
- stan (10/5): - I had the bottom floor japanese room with a little garden and it was a pleasure to sleep in
- Marcus (10/5): - For a Kyoto Trip, it was perfect :)
- Mei (10/5): - Kiraku Inn was a wonderful place to reside at for 3 nights in Kyoto. It was easy to get to from Kyoto Station with the bus 206 from the terminal right outside the station (alight after seeing Yasaka Shrine). Mr Kazo is a cat lover and a black and white senior cat is a resident at the inn. What's more is that the interior is decorated with cat images and figurines, even the signs that tell you to turn off the lights have cats doodled on them which puts a smile on your face. There is a mix of normal bed and traditional futon beds to choose from (we stayed in a 2 futon bed room), which is equipped with the necessities like charging ports and a tv we didnt need to use. Towels and pyjamas are provided with a small fee, which is used to supplement the cat's food. Washing machine and dryer is also located conveniently outside the bathroom (200 yen for washing 300 yen for dryer). It is a short walk (10-15min) to Gion where more food and night life is available. Highly recommended for animal lovers, simple living, and a peaceful stay. Thank you Mr Kazo and Tama the cat!
- Michelle (10/5): - We had a wonderful 3 days at Shirakawa Kiraku Inn. The man who runs it is very helpful and has a very chill cat named Tama. He sent our bags to our next hotel and helped us find a pharmacy.
It’s located in a historic district with beautiful streets, and in walking distance to shrines, temples, the best shopping and dining. Also we stayed at a very expensive Ryokan the following week and the futons were not as comfortable as here :))
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The traditional Japanese Ryokan was a unique experience.
- Angeline (10/5): Felt like home to me. - Owner is very dutiful and accommodating. Despite a bit of a language barrier he made an effort to communicate with me to help me out when I needed it, but otherwise left me alone. He also supplied recommendations on restaurants and things to visit within walking distance of the Inn in English.
Few rooms so not too much bustling around of other patrons. Rooms very comfy and clean plus mine had the private veranda. There is access to a small kitchen and refrigerator but I didn't make use of it.
Don't expect brand new construction. This inn is in an old building but it has been very well maintained.
There is a cute aloof kitty that hangs around and bothers nobody to add to home feel of the Inn. Overall it was the best place for me to go back to after a day out and about. Felt sad to leave
- Ben (10/5): Nice hostel in Gion - Located within the Gion district this small hostel was lovely - nice comfortable private room with nice amenities. Bathing facilities were clean. Friendly welcome and able to store luggage while exploring Kyoto one last time.
- Lim (10/5): One of the best place of my trip - 1. Excellent location. It is located near to quite a number of attractions and downtown Kyoto.
2. Simple and clean. This place has all the basic amenities and kept in tip top condition.
3. Excellent owner. Owner is friendly and provides tips and point out locations of attractions.
