Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (4/5): - we weren't informed that it was closed for refurbishment so had to go elsewhere for food and we were charged £10 for our dog which hadn,t been mentioned when we booked.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not great - Lots of strange things going on in the car park, receptionist went to hospital and never returned leaving us to settle the bill with the cook. Who didn’t know how to work the till. So had to scrape cash together leaving us looking for a bank later on in the day.
Also found what looked like a needle lying behind a chair found by my little boy!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The water pressure was a problem and the shower was just about passable.
No benefit on complaining as I suspect it couldn't be fixed during our one night stay
I would recommend staying at a national hotel chain as the cost didn't reflect anything at all special.
However, the breakfast was a treat so keep that going
- Victoria (10/5): Lovely good value room, enthusiastic welcome - Lovely good value room, enthusiastic welcome. Whilst not your stereotypical business hotel it was well situated for the work I was doing and it was a great decision
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Kitchen work was being done so the bar was closed for food and drinks. I asked for a reduction in room rate but this was declined. We were not advised that there would be no access to the inn for food and drinks in the evening when booking, only on arrival. We were shown to our room which was extremely cold and could only be heated by dragging a portable radiator in from the bathroom. The owner disappeared off site soon after we arrived so we could not ask for another heater. We were told that WiFi which I needed for work was available. It was not.
- carole (8/5): John and Paul - We had a very pleasant overnight stay. John and Paul are very welcoming and easy to chat to . The food is excellent and all staff are polite and helpful. The room was lovely and comfortable, but sadly the internet is hard to connect to but then you are in a lovely remote area with wonderful greenery all around
- heather (8/5): Country pub with rooms - Good food, great breakfast, quirky country pub. Just the job for a night away
- Peter (4/5): Pleasant Inn in the Test Valley - The Star Inn is a country pub with nicely furnished rooms. However, it is run by a small team of staff who seem to lack basic training in good customer service leaving the customer feeling that they've had poor value for money.
The worst aspect was breakfast - it was shambolic! Only two couples were staying on the night we were there and yet there were no tables laid out for breakfast in the restaurant even though we had to submit both the time we were going to take breakfast and whether we wanted continental or cooked the night before. There were glasses but no fruit juice, cereals but no bowls and everything arrived piecemeal with many items of cutlery and crockery brought to the table individually. If two people are ordering toast then why only bring one sideplate? There were other examples of poor service which left you feeling 'never again'!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Served its purpose it was in the area we needed to visit.
- Joanna (10/5): Great stay! - A lovely stay and made to feel very welcome. The rooms were a good size and the bed was very comfy. All very clean and modern.
The food in the evening & breakfast was lovely, homemade and very tasty.
I would definitely recommend to stay here and I’ll be booking here again in the future.
- Gerhart (6/5): Ländlich und fröhlich - Ein Pub mit angeschlossener Übernachtung. Insgesamt nicht schlecht. Essen gut; Frühstück überreichlich. Netter Biergarten und lustige Bedienung. Wifi kostenlos. Ruhiges und großes Appartment. Alles angenehm informell.
- Amanda (10/5): Lovely find - Lovely room and interior decor. Breakfast was massive and beautifully cooked. Dinner was also lovely. Friendly staff in the countryside- would stay again
