Guest Reviews
- Mick (10/5): Lyndale - We had a few days at Lyndale and couldnt have been better. Host was friendly and helpful, room was clean and comfortable and location was ideal for exploring the Lakes
- Simon (10/5): - We had an excellent 3 nights at Lyndale’s guest house. The host Allison answered all our questions about the village of Ambleside. Breakfast was generous. She gave us a parking pass free of charge to a lot that’s about 2 minutes away by walking. 10 minutes away (walking) from the center. Would definitely recommend !
- Carol Wendy (10/5): - Lovely guest house, close to all amenities, lovely breakfast. Super !
- Abigail (10/5): - It was so clean and comfortable and in a safe area. The breakfast was excellent. And the host was so friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again if I had the opportunity
- Lorraine (10/5): - I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Alison’s B&B. The location was perfect, the parking permit an unexpected bonus and my room was spacious and immaculately clean. The breakfast was lovely and freshly cooked to order and Alison was warm and welcoming. I would definitely stay again when in Ambleside.

- Andrew (10/5): Super Accomodation - Fantastic, the location, the welcome were first class. Breakfast was out of this world the attentive service really could not be faulted, a little gem, were planning our next stay already.
- Daniel (10/5): Great stay especially if you have a dog - Stayed here to do the Fred Whitton, booked on location and taking our dog and it was great. Alison was a great host, very accommodating (particularly regarding bikes and dogs) and very helpful. The free parking in the car park just along the road is really useful. I would definitely stay here again.
- Shixiang (10/5): - A clean and newly furbished property managed by a capable and hospitable lady, serving good English breakfast. Our guest room with ensuite is facing the opposite side of the main road, so is quiet. The host also provides each guest a Business Parking Permit for free marking in a nearby council car park, which can also be used in other council car parks of the same council including one in Grasmere.
- James (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the Lyndale house in Ambleside and felt warmly welcomed.
- Simon (8/5): Great location - Great location nice welcome and well equipped although some upgrading required with sink and shower
- Neil (10/5): Spot on - Really friendly greeting, all spotlessly clean and fresh. Room and private bathroom likewise. Breakfast was spot on,great choice and quality. Definately recommend. Free parking pass included in the price for the nearby public carpark. Thank you.
- Sau Kwan Iris (8/5): - The host is helpful in reception of guest. She explained the entrance security and parking inormation in detail.
The full English breakfast was delicious and hot enough.
- Jeanette (10/5): - Alison was a great host. The guest house is perfectly located as you can easily walk into the centre of Ambleside or walk to the pier to go on a Windermere Lake Cruise. I had a very comfortable stay and the cooked breakfast was delicious.
- K (8/5): Lovely b&b, very welcoming host. - Great b&b perfect for a two night stay in Ambleside. It's on the main road so there's quite a lot of traffic noise but this didn't interfere with our stay. Close to the center of town and the edge of Windermere lake. You can access a beautiful walk to Troutbeck village with stunning views across the lake from the backroad of the building. There's a huge garden center across the road from the building, I was surprised by the size of it, you can access the ferry to Bowness 10 minutes walk away.
- Alison (10/5): Very friendly host and amazing breakfast - Lovely Victorian guesthouse midway between Ambleside Pier and town centre. Parking permit provided for nearest car park 100m plus can be used in other car parks in the Lakes. Excellent cooked breakfast and other selections available. Very friendly host, nothing was too much trouble. Lots of tourist leaflets available on each floor of 3 storey house. Bed very comfy. Would definitely recommend.
- Richard (10/5): This B&B enhanced my walking holiday a lot! - The owner and the staff she employed were very helpful, approachable and polite.
I stayed for 10 nights for a solo walking holiday and the owner was very willing to suggest local walks that involved great views and sights, including fantastic views of Windermere or the waterfall-in-the-old-growth-wood nearby.
Each morning I was given a decent breakfast, a hot drink with oat milk, and the option to have cereal, orange juice or fruit salad.
My room was very functional with a small kettle, a sink and a TV. My private shower just down the hall was high pressure, warmed quickly and was cleaned daily.
I'd definitely recommend Lyndale Guest House and would definitely visit again if I wanted to stay in the same area.
Thanks again to the owner and the team.

- Gayle (8/5): Good - All good apart from the very soft bed which was a bit lumpy. Also a bit of noise from the road outside. But very clean as no good breakfast.
- Penelope (10/5): 2 Nights in a excellent bed and breakfast. 10/10 . - If i could give 11/10 I would .
We went for 2 nights and would definitely go again..The host Alison was very friendly and helpful. Free parking was via a parking permit in a local council carpark , which could be used in other car parks.
The room was spotless and a quite big with your own bathroom .The bed was so comfortable I slept really well and was made each day while we were out exploring
Breakfast was very tasty with a good choice catering for many tastes. My husband had a full English each morning while i had egg on toast. Alison also catered for vegetarians and those with different dietary needs.
While Lyndale bed and breakfast is on the main road we didnt find traffic a problem.
The bed and breakfast is 5 minutes walk from Ambleside village which is delightful and a popular place for walkers .In Ambleside there is lots of choice for finding something to eat on an evening, from fish and chips to pub grub and more .
There are all the shops you would expected from quaint gift gift shops to mini supermarkets and plenty of walking /climbing attire shops. Or get a ice cream or coffee and just watch the world go by .
Waterhead pier on lake windermere is a 2 minutes drive or a 10 minutes walk , with spectacular views of the lake and surrounding hills, and is well worth the walk.
The b&b is on a bus route and its worth leaving the car and taking a bus to Kendal or Keswick, you get to see the surrounding countryside without having to worry about finding parking / fee

- Gareth (10/5): - Our stay at the Lyndale really was faultless. Check-in was easy, parking was well organised too, and the Lyndale itself was the perfect base for our long weekend.
It's in an ideal location, just on the main road into Ambleside, and is a lovely little place to stay. Our room was clean, tidy, comfortable and quiet, with all the facilities we needed.
Breakfast was excellent, lots of different options and of a high quality, and Alison was a perfect host too. She knows the area inside out and gave us plenty of tips on places to visit.
We will be back in the future.
- Hilary (10/5): Wonderful hospitality - Lovely welcome and comfortable stay. Every detail thought of.
- Adrian (10/5): Short break in Ambleside - Lyndale is very conveniently located a few minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside and a short distance from the public car park, for which a free parking permit is issued. Local hikes, for walkers of all abilities, can be accessed directly.
Lyndale met all our needs - as well as the convenient location and being great value for money, it was comfortable and clean and the breakfasts ample and delicious. It is expertly run by Alison for whom nothing is too much trouble. A great find that is highly recommended!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location within easy walk of the town. Beside a busy road with a lot of traffic noise. Single room with separate toilet and shower in a very tiny space.
Friendly and amenable host providing excellent breakfasts.
- Simon (6/5): - Friendly helpful staff and good breakfast but room was below standard for a modern b and b with a tiny old fashioned shower room. Hard to reommend
- Clare (10/5): - Good location. Very comfy room. Great breakfast. Host really friendly.
- amy (10/5): - Lovely guest house with very comfortable bed, clean and spacious room with everything you need. Very friendly staff with good knowledge of the area. Would definitely recommend
- Antony (10/5): - Fantastic reception from Alison, checkin and breakfast were seamless. Very well adapted COVID protocols that didn't negatively effect our stay at all. If I can think of any small negatives, the shower could be more powerful and it would be useful to have hooks on the wall for coats - there was a wardrobe with hangers, but perhaps that's not the best place for wet coats. I'm really picking at straws with those negatives though. The breakfast was fantastic, served hot and we didn't have to wait long for it to be prepared at all. I would recommend staying here, it is walking distance to town, comfortable and welcoming. I will definitely stay again next time I'm in Ambleside.
- Vincent (8/5): Walking from ambleside. - Another great stay. Excellent facilities. Within walking distance of ambleside village. Perfectly positioned for any one on a ealking holiday.
Good breakfast and a hassle free stay.

The staff were very friendly and keen to help you which was a key thing.
The breakfasts were delicious and something to look forward to before your day started.
The location was perfect with a five minute walk to Ambleside town centre and close to key road networks that will get you to the key attractions within the Lake District.
Overall a brilliant place to stay if you are planning a trip to the Lakes. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a lovely stay at Lyndal Guest House. The accommodation was clean and breakfast was amazing (plenty of options for vegetarians too). The room was a great size and Alison was so friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend!
- Vincent (10/5): Wet stay in ambleside - Great place to stay old victorian building with a real solid feel to it. Free parking which was fantastic. The weather was lousy but the friendliness of everyone there made up for it. Handy for hayes garden centre only across the road.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had an excellent stay. Great location, brilliant hospitality & great facilities
- naomi (10/5): Relaxing break - Just managed to get this little break in pre lockdown. I was made to feel very welcome and quickly relaxed. My single room was well fitted out with everything I needed. Private bathroom just down the hall. Excellent breakfast, attentive hosts happy to provide useful local knowledge to help you make the best of your stay. I will return.
- R (10/5): Clean, specious and delicious! - Lovely say, the owners were fastidious about COVId regulations and did everything they could to make the stay as safe as possible. Lovely big rooms with a huge comfy bed and adequate amenities including tea and coffee facilities, wine glasses, towels, bedding, pillows, storage, TV etc. The bathroom is a decent size and had lovely shampoo and handwash provided. The whole place was extremely clean which was appreciated. Breakfast was plentiful and absolutely delicious, loads of choice and well made. Our hosts were extremely accommodating and friendly, making the stay even more pleasant.
- Dawn (10/5): - Good food, great room and friendly staff

Highly recommend this place. There were options for a vegetarian or full English breakfast in addition to cereals or a lighter breakfast i.e. eggs on toast/beams on toast.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely Guest House. Very good location. Great service. Excellent breakfast. Shower room a little small but adequate. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely location within walking distance to everything in ambleside, guest house situated opposite garden centre which i found very noisy on the morning as they start unloading early. Apart from that great views. Parking down the road with a permit.
- Dean (8/5): Birthday surprise in the lakes - Accommodation was basic but all you needed was in the room owner was very friendly and helpful with her knowledge on the local areas breakfast was excellent to stat your day off. If there was a negativity its the late check in time 4.30pm and the early check out time of 10.00am
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property was faultless, great location, lively and clean, fantastic value for money, very nice breakfast. Owner was really nice and welcoming. We were in the top floor room looking out on to the road but surprisingly no noise from the road. Very comfortable beds. Thank you for a great stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Easy parking lovely breakfast friendly staff great bed
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really well located, parking permit that was valid around the lakes was also a wonderful perk. Breakfast was very good, but not varied. Didn't like that breakfast was so early (felt that we didn't get to relax properly) and the mattress was quite thin too but this could have been easily resolved with a thicker matrress topper.
- Naomi (10/5): Nice clean and well placed - We had three nights and they were all pleasant and comfortable, they catered for us really well as we had a small child with us that we didn’t mention when booking. A high chair was provided however a cot was not but the room has plenty of room for a travel cot that we brought. Parking wasn’t on site but was a short walk to the local car park (permits are provided)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay - Alison and the team were very welcoming! Cooked breakfast was great, comfy bed, great view from our room, 5 min walk from waterside and Ambleside, parking, all went well, very pleased!

- Heather (10/5): - I had a wonderful time. Solo travelling lady. Single room was lovely. Breakfast each morning was just what I wanted. Full and filling setting me up for the day. Owner was VERY helpful, caring and approachable for advice on local area etc.
A thoroughly lovely Guest house.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent - friendly, clean and well located. Super breakfast in cosy surroundings. It’d be nice to have the news on the TV in the breakfast room, though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall great.
Front rooms can be noisy, with the traffic outside.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent host, lovely and thoroughly clean rooms, handy location. The only minor negative is that the walls are very thin and there were people up until 1am, which meant we were up until 1am as we couldn't shut out the noise!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Guesthouse is comfy and well located on the edge of the town. Great breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely stay - We had a lovely 2 night stay here. It was a last minute, spontaneous booking and we had a great time. Great breakfast, lovely hosts and a comfortable room with lots of storage. Ambleside and the whole area is beautiful with loads to do and we were lucky enough to have glorious weather too . What more could we ask for ? Would definitely return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic location, close enough to walk into Ambleside town. Lovely atmosphere and warm welcome, delicious breakfast. Nice sized room which was clean and very quiet. Did not take our dog on this trip but will definitely be returning again in the future as dogs are made to feel welcome. Can highly recommend. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.
