- Odyssey59093390274 (10/5): GREAT MEALS AND SERVICE - We had the opportunity to try the bar where we stopped for dinner while passing through. The interior is very warm, making guests feel at home. The staff is very friendly, making you want to return again. All the dishes were very tasty, hot, and fresh. Many thanks to the chef for the delicious meals and to the staff, who take great care of their guests down to the smallest detail. I highly recommend this bar's excellent cuisine. - F7782KMjohnb (2/5): Experience travellers - We have just spent 4 days at the Drapers. When we got in to our room, we found the shampoo, shower gel, and hand soap were left overs from other patrons. When we asked for new ones they didnt have any and gave us other half used bottles. They didn’t clean the room the entire time we were there. They don’t do house keeping for short stays, and or it seems 4 days is a short stay. Even when we put a request on the door to have the room cleaned, and wanted fresh towels, nothing was done. Never saw a soul. The room did not seem that clean and although there is a fridge, it is switched off with someone else old beer cans in it. There is never anyone around to ask and the front bar on the street which is quite nice is mostly locked, and never open. The back bar is uninviting with a few young people hanging around. Difficult to get hot water for a shower and sometimes the toilet did not flush, it seemed that there was no water in the system, and I had to use the bin bucket to pour water down the toilet. To top it all you had to walk around a rubbish truck to get in to the door to the accommodation.

Absolutely horrendous service - booked a table for 6 people for a roast dinner and was told at the time of booking that if the weather was hot then there would be an alternative to a roast dinner. We turned up for our reservation, the restaurant was deserted and the waitress listed off half the menu as unavailable (no pizzas, no tapas, only seemed to be burgers available) and that they were not doing roasts - it was 16 degrees and raining torrentially. Waitress was rude and went back to chatting to her friend behind the bar almost immediately. We walked out of the restaurant about 5 minutes after walking in.
- steviedib (2/5): So disappointed - Food only. Explained there was a red and green pepper ( Capsicum ) allergy so really disappointed when the salad arrived with red green and yellow peppers on. This was changed for a different one but then told one of the tortillas also had peppers in . This was returned but no replacement sent until we had to remind the waitress. Calamari's far too spicy (chilli in batter). Pork skewers far too spicy , aioli had chilli flakes sprinkled on top. Prawns far too spicy and not advertised as having chorizo in. Even the salad was fiery. We've eaten lots of Spanish food but can't ever recall this much spice being used. After last years Sunday lunch review which was great this was so so disappointing . Will not be returning or recommending.

- Happyhammer190784 (8/5): Nice hotel bit pricey - Firstly the positives. Nice big room mostly clean though a lot of cobwebs on the beams and the wallpaper needs replacing very comfortable bed and lovely bathroom with large shower. Well equipped lots of tea and coffee it even had a fridge with wasn’t plugged in so unsure it it worked. I noticed an ironing board outside the room and presumed it was for use of the guests Now a couple of negatives. As a solo traveller there was no discount for a single person. All the rooms were doubles or twins but price was based on two adults. Yes I was given a large room but the price at £97.50 with no breakfast for essentially a village pub I thought was quite steep. Secondly. You expect a bit of noise being a pub but the hotel was not busy in fact I didn’t see any other guest so I would think that choosing to put me on the side of the car park where people were outside drinking till 1.30am was not the best. I have stayed before and the rooms facing the other way are not as noisy. So my advice would be. If you want sleep I’d suggest getting it between 2 am and checkout. Having said all that I was still happy with my stay

- 654ashleam (4/5): Sunday roast. - We booked for a large party, we felt we weren’t accommodated at all with two tables pushed together at completely different heights which made eating dinner together very awkward. The table was not ready upon arriving despite knowing we would be coming, booked 3/4 weeks in advance We had a Sunday roast, the food was lovely although cold considering we pre ordered and waited 45 minutes from sit down. We were sitting on top of each other and felt they couldn’t accommodate such a large table. Vegetables and cauliflower cheese were placed on the table directly over the 14 month old, placed a few inches from her. With the warning it’s Really Hot. The staff was not very welcoming, would not rush back especially for a large party. Was quite disappointed.

Lemon Roulade for dessert - home made and delicious. Great atmosphere. Vast selection of beers. Staff friendly and personable. Establishment inviting. Highly recommend.
- Bawtryblue (10/5): Wine & International Food themed night. - Wes and the team put on a fantastic French themed night with wine matched to food by the very knowledgeable Steve. French food has not always floated my boat or it didn’t until last night. We started with the best French onion soup I have ever had, muscles to follow which I could not eat due to an allergy but the mushroom alternative was fantastic. Main was beef bourguignon with the most amazing Dauphinoise potato’s, Wes these must become a staple on your menu. The cheese board wrapped up an amazing night of food and a wine education. Definitely the best food in Earls Colne I would definitely recommend a visit Wes and the team do this really well.

Despite and event on below my room, I heard nothing, really quiet. I booked due to location for my work, will definitely be booking again. Only downside: parking, due to working late, the car park was busy twice, the first night a customer in the bar offered to move her car and the second evening the owner moved their car for me to park - as I said amazing venue. I believe if you arrived at a normal work time, this would not be an issue.

- Amanda (6/5): - I chose to stay here given the high score and positive reviews left by others. I must say my experience was not the best. It started with parking issues. I arrived to find the car park is tiny and can really only fit about 4 cars in it (5 at a squeeze) and was full. Not knowing the area I had no idea what my options were. I could see that there is allocated street parking but all of this was full too. I had to find somewhere to pull over and call the property. I was directed to a public non-paying car park situated behind them - having arrived there that was full. I went back to the hotel where a very friendly member of staff got one of the regulars to move their car to let me in the car park as they could not advise me what any other option was. I was shown to my room which was quirky but quite small. I wasn’t given any instructions about use of the wi-if or what the arrangements were for leaving keys in the morning and had to ask 2 different members of staff to get the correct information. The bed was comfortable but there was a constant noise in the room all night which sounded like a fan or something, so I didn’t have the best sleep. In the morning, the water pressure was terrible in the shower and the water was not hot - just warm at best. Also the water did not drain away. Overall not great - would I stay again, unfortunately not.

- darrellw771 (4/5): Tasty food, but poor service - We had a table booked on 23rd August for my birthday meal out with my family. The table was booked for 7:30pm and we had to pre-order our food which I found strange for a table of only 6 people. At around 7:10pm, my brother, who booked the table, received a call asking where we were and if we were still coming. Rather strange considering the table was for 7:30 - this was booked in person by my brother, not over the phone. This is where alarm bells started to ring. We were seated and the first round of drinks ordered and delivered relatively swiftly by a friendly waitress who seemed to be running the entire room by herself. We then waited for maybe 25 minutes for the food to start arriving. The first meal was bought out, then maybe 4 minutes, the 2nd. Another few mins, and the 3rd and so on for the rest of the 6 meals. At one point, the waitress delivering the food delivered a half hearted apology for the delay, stating that the chicken was cooked fresh and this was the reason it took so long. The chicken was the 5th meal delivered, with my gammon coming eventually last, by which point, the first meal delivered was now going cold. One of the burgers that was served was missing the jalapeno's. When questioned, the waitress was asked to bring some to the table. the chef stated we no longer serve jalapeno's and instead bought out some bell peppers. Not the same thing at all. If you order a burger with jalapenos as per the menu, then that's what you should receive, or take it off the menu! We also asked the food waitress for some sauces and the response was an annoyed sounding yes, like we were an inconvenience. The food itself was tasty. Desert time. Now my brother again received another phone call earlier that day to advise there was no apple crumble which one of our party had ordered but they would serve something else. The desert came out and said party member didn't receive anything, nor did the waitress ask if she wanted anything else. We had to instigate this conversation with the waitress, again acting as if we were a massive inconvenience. A little rude to be honest. I also ordered a Guinness which took quite a while to arrive. When we came to pay the bill, we talked to the first waitress who served the drinks and said that the service was far from ok, to which she apologised and agreed it wasn't good enough. We didn't ask for anything off the bill and left it at that. A few minutes later, the waitress came over and offered us a round of drinks on the house, which i thought was a nice gesture. Despite the tasty food, the service was very poor and we are not likely to visit again because of this.
- John (10/5): - A value for money, spacious, clean and well appointed room in an old pub. Our room had a bath as well as shower. Good pub food. Staff were friendly and efficient. It is an old pub so it has steep stairs, creaky floorboards and some noise from patrons but that comes with the venue. Free parking was available but limited parks at the pub itself. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

- steviedib (10/5): Sunday roast big enough for Desperate Dan. - On holiday in the area and decided to go here for the Sunday roast dinner. We had roast pork with stuffing and Yorkshire pudding together with roast potatoes and 6 veg. Lovely food and enormous portions served by really friendly and attentive staff. Drinks were very reasonably priced too. This place should be a must for everyone in the area looking for a great value Sunday lunch.

Shower no hot water, shower mat mouldy. Deluxe windows leaking water down the wall and bedboards,cobwebs and dust everywhere not good, decor dated and peeling off walls. No remote control for tv. No food Monday or Tuesday unless you were a friend or staff??? No direction for initial registration on arrival as door.locked had to guess re entry and find bar entrance

Very good service & nice ambiance. Have previously had Sunday lunch here which was also excellent. Would highly recommend eating here.

Food was delicious, very fresh and hot and plenty of it. Sticky toffee pudding was amazing! Really lovely afternoon and will defiantly return.

- L (2/5): - This is a hotel attached to a sports bar. The car park is tiny. Had to park outside a shop and walk to hotel. Check in was so noisy and loud could not hear what was said. Restaurant was closed for private wine tasting. This was not on website. Music played loudly until 02:05am when I rang the pub and asked how much longer the music would play. The person who answered said they were not aware anyone was in. This was worrying as booked via website and completed registration form, had hotel needed to evacuate during the night, would I have been forgotten. Loud, noisy place. Room was nice as was person at check in, but lack of Restaurant and noise level means I would not recommend. It should be made clear that one of the bars is a sports bar

I appreciate as they explained that the lack of individual toiletries was to rightly avoid plastic waste but they have agreed to look into providing shampoo and conditioner to supplement the basic hand and body wash

No parking on site No breakfast available No comfortable area to sit and work No food on Mondays / Tuesdays I also requested someone help with the TV settings, a message was sent, but no-one confirmed they were not going to help, or did anyone attend to this need. Very disappointed- I’m not going to stay again.

- Michelle082031 (2/5): Worst Hotel Ever - When I arrived to check in, I had to walk into a crowded sports bar area and make my way through pub patrons, watching football, and step over a rather large dog, with my bag and suitcase, in order to get to the bar to even speak to anyone. Once checked in, I was shown to my room, however, I had to walk through the restaurant area, which was in darkness, as the lady that checked me in said the lights were off as the restaurant was closed. Trying to negotiate a suitcase and bag in the dark, where you don’t know the layout of a room is actually quite hard to do, but I was offered any help at all or any lighting! Later that evening, I went to put something in the fridge and couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened it up to see a box inside, with some left over mouldy sushi, with a use by date of July! We’re nowhere near July 2023, therefore this must be at least July 2022. That means that had been in there for 7 months!!! In the morning, I used the toilet and to my dismay realised it wouldn’t flush! I then attempted to have a shower, but the shower head was so blocked that the water was only coming out of about 25% of the shower head. The water was also only just lukewarm! I managed to get ready and packed up as I wasn’t prepared to spend a minute longer in this awful, unfit, not fit for purpose hotel with these health and safety issues!! In fact, this hotel should be reported to HSE Gov!

- Mary (2/5): - Like nothing. No breakfast on offer. Tiny room and bathroom. Stayed 5 nights, no housekeeping at all. Room wasnt ready when we arrived from a 24 hr trip at gone 3pm. Had to sit in scruffy sports bar with the very young adults and huge dog. We are all in our 70's. No food and no after hours drinks for residents!

Can’t wait to visit again. One thing I would say is the service was slightly slow and most desserts sold out but we did book in last minute

- tony (4/5): Over priced for quality you get - First time we had stayed at the Drapers hotel, from the outside it looks very nice, they have a big outdoor seating area which is under a canopy and a big screen. We were shown to our room which was supposed to be a deluxe room with a queen bed, although the room was ok it was very small and it was definitely not a queen bed. There was cobwebs literally all over the room, you didnt have to go looking for them they were very visible and the room had obviously not been cleaned very well. The bathroom was nice but when i flushed the chain it broke and wouldn't flush, we went out for the night and told one of the girls about the toilet, when we came back it had not been fixed, nobody came the following day either, in fact nobody came the 3 days we were there. The room never got serviced no clean towels or bed sheets. For the money you pay you would expect alot more if im honest. Sadly we will not be returning.

- simrealdorothy (10/5): Fabulous Venue - Just wanted to send a HUGE thank you to June and her fabulous team for a fantastic night last Friday. 22 of us were let down a week ago by the Five Bells in Wakes Colne and what a result, June came to the rescue and fitted us in at the very last minute and it was fantastic. The food was absolutely amazing, huge credit to the kitchen, the bar staff were so attentive with our requests for "more drinks" all evening and I can't thank you guys enough. We're coming back next Christmas, if you'll have us? 🤣 Thank you so much ❤❤
- Dave (6/5): - Although the bed was comfortable and I slept well I found the room disappointing considering I paid £97. I found cobwebs in the room, water stains on the wall, grime in the bathroom sink and a broken bath plug. Again parking was an issue I went out for the evening and came back after midnight and couldn’t park in the car park. My only option was to park outside the Coop which I found unacceptable. I have stayed here twice but there won’t be a third stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was adequate, however on arrival there was a mix up around our booking furthermore there was not an option for breakfast as the hotel didn’t provide such service. The only place to get breakfast was either a car drive or the cafe across the road. This was however only one on certain days and had a very limited menu. The bar staff on the Sunday was not very friendly and lacked enthusiasm to serve us. The hotel cleaner and owner however were extremely friendly and chatty.
- Rebecca (6/5): - Arrived at 2.30pm - no obvious checking in desk and difficult to find staff as there was a party going on. Once I found a member of staff they were very helpful and polite and check in was good. Room had no toilet paper - requested some before I went out but when I returned at 9pm there was still none so had to go back down to the bar and ask for some. Bed very comfy. Room overlooked courtyard and although people were out there it didn’t disturb me. Several lightbulbs not working in the room including one of the ones over the bed. Having read other reviews was prepared for the fact that there is very little parking and I parked easily enough on the High Street. Shower very powerful but no complimentary shampoo, only conditioner. Overall though good value for money and suitable for my needs.
- scheville (4/5): Not what it said on the tin - I booked this place while working away on business, When I arrived at 1800hrs I was welcomed by the nice bar staff. I asked what time the kitchen closed, they said it wasnt open but normally was and also stated onlime that it was. I also asked about breakfast and she replyed, we dont serve breakfast in the week. Not great in a small village! The room was ok and I ate takeawy in my room. Went to make a coffee and found both cups to be dirty from last stay. What can I say apart from very poor and will never stay again.
- Dave (8/5): - The room itself was very pleasant the decor was quirky there was tea coffee milk and sugar, there was a fridge but I didn’t see how it was switched on., My only criticism would be the lack of parking for paying guests, you can only get food Wednesday to Sunday and they don’t do breakfast at all and finally the shower in the room didn’t have any pressure at all.

- William (8/5): - did not like the fact that the TV had to be SIGNED into prior to being able to watch anything. BBC needed to be signed in via my computer (didnt have!) or phone etc...WHY!!! any other hotel etc that have stayed in ,you just turn on the tv switch to your program and watch....this needs to be mentioned on entering the hotel and after being shown the room. No one was available to get this sorted, as staff were sorting out the bar and customers in the yard area and wereb not able to stop!!...Bill Sims
- Jane (4/5): Dont visit the Drapers Hotel - Drapers hotel was a mistake we wont be making again....to be told to park my car up the road somewhere was not helpful...then to be told the kitchen was closed Mon and Tues really put the tin hat on it...and the road outside was like a race track...avoid this place at all costs...

- Graham (10/5): Definitely would stay again awesome place - We both thought the staff were great the room was really hot when we arrived so maybe windows couldve been opened prior but the fan was ready so when we put our bags in we opened every window wide and stuck the fan on and by the time we went to bed the room was perfect I would definitely stay again and would recommend anyone looking for a room in the area the food was absolutely lovely also
- Richard (8/5): - It’s a really gorgeous place with a lovely restaurant, outside area and sports bar and is really well situated. The parking is very limited and it was a shock to find there was no room when we arrived after a long drive. Luckily we were able to park on the high street but it would be better to know in advance the parking isn’t guaranteed. Also it was hard to check out as no one was around so some info on what to do would have been helpful. Overall tough a really good stay, gorgeous room and theming and really appreciated the vegan friendly full bottle toiletries and the late bar.

- Verified traveler (4/5): One time was enough - Told on arrival - they don’t serve breakfast Mon-Fri this was not made clear when booking. They also don’t serve hot food Mon and Tuesdays. The layout of the room was step format (room 4), difficult to navigate round. Cobwebs behind the blind in the window recess, noisy customers outside my window and vaping in the bar area.
- Antony (6/5): - When we arrived you couldn’t get into the car park because of an outside party going on so had to drive around looking for somewhere to park . Loud music with very heavy bass was blaring out, had to go into the bar where a not particularly friendly woman who was serving took us to our room. The room itself was nice but because it was situated on the car park side the windows were vibrating because of the bass, shutting them made little difference. This party went on from midday to midnight and we were not notified of this beforehand. The party did indeed stop at midnight but with the amount of people mulling around we finally got some peace and quiet about 2.00am . When we left in the morning everything was locked up, we found someone who was working in the kitchen who took the keys, so there was nobody to speak to about our experience.

- H2459GCjackieb (4/5): Drapers did not provide promised services and appeared to have little consideration to needs of some guests. - Firstly the good bit.....my room was clean and comfortable with everything I expected. However, I had telephoned Drapers prior to my one night visit to check a couple of things. Firstly, I wanted to ask about access and stairs as I can manage stairs but am unable to carry things up or down without difficulty. I was reassured by the helpful responder that the stairs were carpeted and had a rail and importantly that they would always take luggage to and from. Secondly, I asked about access to the hotel should I return late in the evening. Again I was reassured that there would be access via the restaurant and bar until about 11pm and after that I could access the side door with a key that would be given to me with my room key. Neither of these things happened (well I got a second key which didn't open door). On checking in, I asked the young lady if she would help with my luggage, and she did, but didn't look too happy about it. On checking out, there was no one at all working in the hotel before 11am (an hour after check out time given), so I had to struggle up and down stairs twice to bump things down step by step. I was very surprised and rather perturbed to know that not only were there absolutely no staff in the building overnight, but that I was also the only guest. Apparently a manager has accommodation in a separate building but is not on duty. The person who checked me in said it might be possible to ask him if I could have his mobile number if I was really concerned. The key given to me did not unlock the side door when I returned at 10.30pm. I went to the front entrance and that was locked and all in darkness. I returned to the side door and tried again to unlock but was unsuccessful. I was anxious and returned to my car. I noticed a young woman exiting from the side door and called to her asking that she let me in as my key hadn't worked. She said, "oh I haven't locked it so you should be able to just open it now" If I had been half an hour later I would have been stranded as I don't drive in the dark, and had chosen Drapers because it was in walking distance of an event.
