- Lucy (6/5): Very good value for money - Very good value for money and clean. Perfect for one night Rooms were quite small so not much floor space
- Serge (10/5): The host was wonderful in telling us about where sites were and lots of things to do in the area - Close to Mekong River, markets, food vendors and so much more It is a little gem of a place to stay. Lots of ambiance
- Sofia (10/5): -
- Aurore (10/5): - Très bon séjour
Bon emplacement, chambre très agréable
Hôte aux petits soins
Il m’a aidé pour les transports
Je recommande vivement ! :)
- pek (4/5): Very disappointing - Very helpful owner of the guesthouse. Lovely traditional style of the place and very convenient location. Very very very noisy. I was not able to sleep at all. Crying children, motorbikes late into the night, cars and trucks from 4am in the morning. Dogs, chickens, noise from the other rooms, could even hear when they turn their taps on and off. In addition to all the noise, the curtains does not block out the lights from the lamp posts. I did not sleep at all! Luckily I was only there for one night to catch my boat. So relieved about that.
- Patrice (8/5): - Jolie maison en teck toute vernie, petitecterrassexsymoa a l'étage et balcon agréable Petit dej minimaliste
- Eric (9/5): Good starting point for the Mekong cruise - Very nice host
- Connie (10/5): -
- Chase (8/5): - The WiFi doesn’t reach the furthest building whatsoever. It’s acceptable for one night but not more.
- Abby (9/5): - Great for a one night stay before taking the slow boat! Nothing
- Cork (9/5): A lovely traditional guesthouse -
- Isabelle (7/5): - Personnel accueillant et bon emplacement Matelas dur
- Daniel (6/5): -
- Michael (7/5): - Quiet place, good location near river.
- Oyvind (8/5): -
- Kwame (9/5): Good place to relax while on transit - The owner was extremely nice. No complaints
- john (8/5): Really good stopover , and very helpful owner. - A great place, provides everything travellers need on the way over the border with Laos. Very organised and helpful, the owner is great and can arrange the boat ticket for Laos, transport across the border. He's a character too. The room was small but fun, all wood panelling and we had a balcony which we really enjoyed. Location brilliant, you can walk along the river bank, into the main street for the market and fabulous restaurant few doors away. We stayed 2 nights to get a taste of Chiang Khong, really glad we did. When we were checking in and then later trying to discuss buying boat tickets, both times a young boy was screaming and shouting around us in reception . It is annoying when you're tired and trying to talk as adults and paying guests.
- Angela (7/5): Lovely overnight stay pre border crossing - It was quirky and the owner was lovely No hot water in the shower
- Lia (8/5): Would stay here again. - Lovely clean old style teak guesthouse. Very friendly staff. Good location walking distance from massage and restaurant. Drove us to border for small amount. Nothing
- Devender (9/5): One night in Chiang Khong - Most people ce to Chiang Khong for one night to cross into Laos the following morning. Baanfai is a perfect, reasonably price option to spend a night or even more in. It is built in the traditional style and is absolutely lovely with a nice balcony to sit out on. We had a twin room with ensuite bathroom. It's basic but has everything you need. Its on the main road so close to restaurants, the brilliant Big C supermarket and the riverside walk. The best thing about it is the owner, who is a big boss in the area. He has everything organised with a taxi that takes you to the border crossing in the morning included. He can also arrange boat trips downriver for a good price if you haven't already booked one. He is a partner of Mekong River Cruise which we had already pre-booked. In the morning, he checked everything was in order for us. We would highly recommend Baanfai for your stay in Chiang Khong. Restaurants close by 8/8.30 so go early. Nothing-everything was great
- Lynn (10/5): Very nice place to stay before boat trip. - Very comfortable stay close to bar and restaurants Nothing
- Vanessa (10/5): Excellent stop for slow boat journey - Clean comfortable
Great location
Pick up and drop off to / from pier
Breakfast and a lunch box for the slow boat if you want it for a reasonable price
- PSDuffy (10/5): A perfect place to stay prior to a cruise down the Mekong River - I stayed here the night before my 2-day slow boat cruise to Luang Prabang, Laos, and everything about the room and place was great. A clean and comfortable room, fast wifi, great AC and a friendly owner made for a great stay. He recommended a very tasty restaurant next door, and the other way I found a fun bar offering pool, free shots every 30 minutes as well as plenty of karaoke. A great value in the middle of town. Beware of the rooster (basic earplugs will take care of that), and the room was smallish but comfortable and clean - and still a great value!
- John (9/5): - Very nice well appointed room.
- Pauline (8/5): Very nice guesthouse, would highly recommend if in Chiang Khong - Very friendly and helpful host, the property was extremely well presented. Room was all we needed for the one night and handy to good restaurant and the river walking track. Bed very firm, as is common in SE Asia
- Guest (1/5): **HEALTH HAZARD** AVOID AT ALL COSTS! - Nothing I was given a room that stunk of mould & then noticed FLUFFY MOULD GROWING ON THE PILLOWS (hidden under the pillow case), I only noticed because the pillowcase wasn’t on properly. They must have known as the room stunk of it. After moving the pillows I noticed dark spots showing through the white sheet under the pillows so I lifted the sheet. I was horrified to see HUGE BLOOD STAINS ON THE BED & lots of them.
I showed the owner & told them none of this was acceptable as it was a serious health hazard. He wasn’t bothered but he moved me to a different room and asked me to check it was ok. It didn’t smell of mould but I lifted the bed sheet to find lots of blood & other bodily fluids. When I said I can’t sleep here it’s a health hazard the owner said perhaps you should go to the hotel next door. Luckily he gave me a refund.
I travel a lot & I have stayed in a few poor places but I have never & would never sleep in a mouldy bed that’s covered in someone else’s blood. THIS PLACE IS A SERIOUS HEALTH HAZARD & the owner doesn’t seem to see why it’s a problem. This should not be advertised on any accommodation platforms.
- Corey (10/5): -
- raffaella (10/5): -
- Anthony (8/5): -
- Ross (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Nice pre crossing stopover - Located on the main road that has a mini mart, 7-11 and a lovely local food restaurant next door.
There in July, rain season so it was very quiet and sort of in hibernation mode.
No breakfast available at the property, coffee was but there are places to get food and supplies that were open to find most needs.
Build partially in wood and concrete it has an old charm.
Owner was helpful
Great for a one or two day stop before crossing the border. All good.
- Lisa (4/5): Disappointing - Staff were friendly and location was good, restaurants and shops close by It was raining the day we were there and the ceiling above the bed started to leak. The aircon unit was also leaking.
- Albert (9/5): Cosy stopover for 1 night! Basic but comfortable - Cosy and comfortable stay on our 1 night stopover travelling to Chiang Rai! Friendly and welcoming people, great location near restaurants and shops. The bathroom was very small so taking a shower was a bit of a squeeze but it was fine for 1 night and was to be expected for the great price
- Harry (8/5): Very good -
- Harry (8/5): Very good -
- Sue (10/5): Great little guesthouse with super helpful owner - Great little guesthouse apparently the original in Chiang Khong. Good value for money, comfy beds and although on main street rooms are tucked away so doesn’t feel like it. Lovely veranda to watch world go by. Owner very helpful with onward travel and has excellent English. Recommended Nothing
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- Sidd (7/5): decent rooms for a sleep! - okay rooms if you want to sleep for a night before transit -na
- Woody (9/5): Superb - Very convenient if taking the slow boat to or from Laos. We arrived at around 8pm and the lady and man were very helpful and informed us which bus to get the next morning to Chaing Rai Curtains are see through so very bright in the morning
- Kimberley (8/5): Nice room - The room was very nice, good air con and had a little balcony which was nice.
Bed was comfy.
Was a fridge too which was useful for keeping water cold. Shower was at an awkward position where it aimed at the sink so was difficult to stand under the direct flow of it.
- Mia (10/5): Amazing and affordable ❤️ - Owners were so accommodating and just genuinely nice they are now and always will be my extended family ❤️ I can't think of anything 🤔
- Callum (9/5): Superb - Great accommodation for getting the Slowboat. Centre of the town so walkable to restaurants to eat. Staff were very friendly and helped us with Slowboat process, could even book tours with them if needed. Room was slightly basic but very good for the price, had waters in the room on arrival. Aircon dripped - not really an issue for us but don’t leave electronics under it!
- Alicia (5/5): Passable -
- Wipa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anh (10/5): Exceptional - The guest house is a traditional wooden house, the room is just basic but quite clean. There’re many restaurants nearby. The lady at reception is super friendly and helpful
- Natalia (10/5): Exceptional - Spent one night here and it was all good! The room was small but cute, the bed was extremely comfortable and the a/c was great! The shower was a bit too small but nothing to complain about. The owner is really nice and friendly. We bought the transfer service to Luang Prabang and he personally drove us to the border checkpoint and showed us the way.
- Dahlia (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (8/5): We enjoyed our stay - thank you! -
- Chotiros (9/5): Superb -
- Julia (7/5): Good -
- Mariska (8/5): Good for one night - Location was good, right on the main street in town. Good coffee in the morning (surcharge), room had everything we needed for one night, AC worked well. No breakfast was available at the guest house and there were no places nearby where we could buy breakfast. Mattress was very hard! They only accept cash to pay for the room.
- Sofia (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (8/5): The staff was very helpful. -
- Douglas (9/5): Superb - The manager was super helpful making last minute arrangements for the slow boat cruise to Luang Prabang.

- Amy (8/5): Very good - Good location and friendly team. Hot water heater in the bathroom didn’t work - although we didn’t give the guy the chance to sort it out.

Well well organised in the morning for the pick up to the slow boat.
- Katherine (8/5): Very good -
- Jamie (6/5): Convenient and basic - Good value for money and convenient for border crossing Very basic, near main road with lots of traffic. Woken up by woman shouting loudly and chickens all night.
- David (8/5): Would definitely stay here again. Great place! - Really nice quiet guesthouse. Very good value. Our stay before slow boat. Highly recommend. Great restaurant close by also grocery store and atm.
- Anya (8/5): Very good - Lovely room, very comfortable and the staff at the hotel were very accommodating. The owner kindly gave us a lift to the friendship bridge for a reasonable price, saving us the legwork of tracking down an alternative option. Would happily return! Our room was near the compressors (or similar units for the property) so it could be noisy at times but I cannot complain for the price!
- Carol (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anna (8/5): Easy transit hotel - Easy guesthouse for entering or leaving Thailand. Man on reception very nice. We stayed here for 1 night for a quick transit and it ticked that box i.e. check in, sleep, check out. Place next door good for pad Thai. Quite a few mosquitos but you are next to a river so can't be helped. We put up a mosquito net for the night so had no problems. Unfortunately the shower didn't operate hot water as the safety switch would turn off every 2 seconds which was a little frustrating as we couldn't shower and had to check out early for our onwards bus.
- Anyplaceadventures (10/5): Wonderful facilities - Clean, comfy beds. Great price. Good coffee. Transport to border arranged. No breakfast available.
