- Blake (10/5): - Had a great stay. Our room gave onto a sidestreet, and being up one storey we were looking out into fall colours. Quiet overnight. Lovely stylish room. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Easy check-in/check-out process. Great dining and brunch options nearby (the beet and goat cheese salad at the adjoining British pub was wonderful); highly recommend the Mulligan café up the street also for vegan and gluten free options and lovely ambience.

- Shelley (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay here. It is in a great area. Lots of restaurants within walking distance or good food found in the pub on the main floor. Next time we would request q room that is nit directly above pub and private event room. It was definitely noisy one night. Great many were having fun but a little loud in our room. The earplugs provided were not much help, but appreciated the effort.

They replied very quick. I loved that. I recommend this hotel. Parking is the issue. Road parking is always full and parking in the garage is limited.

The only minor issue was that the room, which had two queen beds, only had one chair. However, the price was very reasonable, and overall, I highly recommend this property.

- Dianne (8/5): - The room was absolutely stunning and beautifully decorated and made an amazing place to surprise my best friend for her birthday. Although the room and the location was amazing, we did have a couple problems during our stay. We were never able to get connected to the Wifi in the room and also the air conditioning in the room was not working all night so made it hard to sleep because it was hot in the room. But the host was very good at responding to help with our troubles and did let us stay 1 hour longer due to these issues happening. Overall, great time staying there!

The room was spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the shower was excellent with great water pressure. One of the best features is that the hotel is truly pet-friendly, with no extra fee. Overall, it’s a wonderful spot for both relaxation and convenience, and I’d happily stay here again.

- Rupa (8/5): - Great size room, clean, quiet, self check in great. The carpet near the shower was lifted and there was a coffee stain on the lamp which I let the host know. The shower stall was right in the bedroom with glass so if you had children or friends, it would be awkward. Would be good if there was a hook near the shower to hang the bath towels. Also, hand cream would be a great addition. Lastly, the air conditioning was loud, but they did provide ear plugs. Very convenient and nice hotel. Check-in and check-out was very easy. Quiet neighbourhood with a beautiful beach and marina which was walkable. Would definitely stay again.

- John (10/5): - The end of a really nice weekend in the Ottawa area. Stayed at a really nice little hotel in Aylmer, Quebec just across the river known as The British Hotel, built in 1834. Apparently it was quite the brawl room in its heyday. Recently purchased and renovated to include some inexpensive but very modern 2nd floor suites, electronic check-in, lock box entry, self contained pub and restaurant, patio and separate country cafe, at $125/night definitely a place I will be staying at again.

- Kamala (10/5): - I liked that pub has a history, also older part of Aylmer near harbour. Enough cute shops and restaurants to be entertained for a day. We stayed at newer rooms and had access to elevator. We also stayed from Wednesday to Friday, the Wednesday night was quietvas pub was closed before 11pm, Thursday open later but noise was not too bad. If older or early riser would pause on weekend but they had blackout curtains and earplugs so everything was thought of to mitigate noise and light. We stayed at Deluxe , which did have separate room but bathroom shower still in the middle of room where someone sleeping so if shy will need to coordinatw. Toilet does have closed door and great temperature control and amazing shower pressure for a hotel.

- Lauri (2/5): - Bad experience. Stayed at room above restaurant, restaurant partied all night and left stereo on. Still on full blast at 7AM when we left. No sleep at all due to continuous bass beating. Unless the hotel and restaurant can sort this type of behavior out, I would not stay at British hotel. Got refund, but what I needed was sleep.
- Patricia (6/5): - Unfortunately we had a mosquito infestation in the room, so bizard cause the room was so clean but full of mosquitos we killed maybe 20 or 30, they bite us so much they were full of blood that they stained the sheets pillow cases and towel ( we used towels to killed then ) no one answered until the next day. It was so late we had to stay we got some mosquito repellent

Cependant, notre chambre (201) était située à l'avant, au dessus du bar; certains clients du bar ont été très bruyants au début de la nuit. L'administration de l'hôtel nous a informés à l'avance de cette situation, et fournit des bouchons pour les oreilles. Toutefois, aucune mention à cet effet est mentionné sur le formulaire de réservation en ligne. Il serait important de le faire à l'avenir.

- Karen (10/5): - Great place, very spacious. Easy to access. Close to many great places to eat and drink. We only stayed one night. If I had to make any suggestions I would say adding a hair dryer and a memory foam mattress topper, if not a better mattress. But otherwise really incredible place.

- Diana (4/5): - Notre arrivée a été compliquée : il n’y a pas d’ascenseur ni d’accès direct du bâtiment principal à la chambre. Nous avons dû sortir avec tous nos bagages pour entrer par l’entrée principale. Dès qu’on ouvre la porte de la chambre, une forte odeur d’humidité est très désagréable. La décoration est magnifique, mais les armoires où se trouvent la vaisselle dégagent une odeur terrible. La chambre du fond, qui est séparée, est très chaude et l’air climatisé ne s’y rend pas. Cela dit, les lits king sont très confortables et les draps ainsi que les serviettes étaient très propres. Our arrival experience was inconvenient: there is no elevator or direct access from the main building to the room. We had to exit the building with all our luggage and re-enter through the main entrance. As soon as you open the door to the room, the smell of humidity is overwhelming. The decor is beautiful, but the cabinets where the dishes are stored have a terrible odor. The back room, which is separate from the others, is extremely hot and the air conditioning doesn’t reach it. On the positive side, the king beds are very comfortable and the sheets and towels were very clean.

- Laura (10/5): - We loved our stay here! The hotel was clean and spacious and in a wonderful location by Pink Lake in Gatineau and just a 15min drive into downtown Ottawa. The host was very friendly and quick to respond to any questions, and the hotel restaurant/bar was great!
- Sheryl (4/5): - We didn’t like the fact that the shower was not private. We also did not like that the air conditioning only affected one of the rooms. The TV was only for hooking up your own services to, no actual tv to watch. The coffee maker was set up in the extra room which was in an awkward area and it was a quirky nespresso machine. It was a challenge to get our luggage from the parking garage to our room, quite the maze.

- Christine (10/5): - we loved our stay here and plan to return in the future. the suite was huge, decorated well, and had some actual dishes we could use! a little thing but i feel it makes a big difference in vibe to use real glassware or have a bowl to put your chips in. our room had some slight damage (looked like the tv or something had been mounted on the wall but taken down) and the screen door to our little balcony (which i loved having) was pretty difficult to slide open and closed. Neither of these really bothered me, but i will say my one negative was that there was no trashcan in our suite other than one comically small one in the bathroom. drinks at the bar were tasty and a blueberry-filled pastry at cafe british was AMAZING. looking forward to our next stay.

The room itself was spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated with a charming blend of modern comfort and heritage character. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we appreciated the attention to detail — from the plush linens to the thoughtful touches like the espresso machine and high-quality toiletries. The large windows offered lovely natural light, and the ambiance was quiet and relaxing. Although there were no staff members on-site during our stay, check-in via lockbox was simple and well-organized, and we had no issues accessing the building or our room. The historic charm of the hotel building adds something really special to the stay — you can feel the personality and story behind the space, which is a refreshing change from the more generic hotel chains. Our only minor critique is that the room could have used a bit more soundproofing — we could hear the pubs patrons talking outside and heard footsteps or hallway noise. Although they did provide ear plugs . That said, it wasn’t enough to ruin our stay. The location is excellent — close to the waterfront and within walking distance of charming cafes and local shops. We would definitely return and recommend The British Hotel to anyone looking for a boutique-style experience in Quebec with a touch of history and comfort.

The pub downstairs can get a bit lively on the weekends (we were in Room 203), but we travel with earplugs and a white noise machine, so it wasn’t an issue for us!

- Verified traveler (10/5): short trip - We recently stayed at the British Hotel in Aylmer for a short visit with friends and family, and we were pleased with our experience. The room was wonderful, featuring a king-size bed and cable TV. The shower had great pressure, and the room was clean and well-maintained. The pre-arrival information was helpful, making check-in smooth. The friendly staff at the welcome desk of the restaurant were very helpful. Great price and food. One thing to note is that parking was a bit tight, and navigating the small parking area was confusing. Additionally, accessing the lobby from the parking area was a bit tricky, and we ended up having to walk out and around to the front doors. However, the hotel's location is excellent, with many shops, cafes, and amenities nearby, including the mall, marina, and banks. The terrace was a lovely touch. Sad we couldn't book again for an upcoming wedding due to availability, But we still recommend the hotel to others. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, and we'd consider returning again and again!

Had to call contact, waited for over 1 hour (from 11:00 to past midnight) and was told someone was on their way, to be relocated to another unit. Checked out the next way at 11, and received multiple emails and text about where I had left the keys. I replied that I had put them back into lock box as per instruction. But they fully refunded me given the confusion so that was really appreciated.
