Guest Reviews
- Kathrin (7/5): Gemütlich mit Abstrichen. - Schönes Zimmer. Sehr nette Leute. Laut. Und leider roch man im Zimmer fast durchgehend die Küchengerüche (Bratfett).
Nicht gut mit ÖV erreichbar.
- GEOFFREY (10/5): A great pub-our “go-to” place to stay whenever we visit South Devon. - Good food, comfortable bedrooms and friendly staff. And great atmosphere in this cosy old pub. The stairs might be challenging for the infirm
- David (10/5): A perfect week’s holiday, good weather to.!! - All meals were very good with a good menu choice.
Service was excellent and served with a smile. Nothing!
- Patricia (9/5): -
- Sheila (10/5): - Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff
- Tracey (10/5): Really lovely place to stay with welcoming staff and great food. - Welcoming staff and delicious food
- Donna (10/5): Friendly Inn with great food - Historic building. Clean and thoughtful with nice touches.
Excellent food and very friendly staff. The bedroom was quite small but sufficient for a 2 night stay.
- Frances (9/5): Relaxed and pretty - So cosy to stay in and such a pretty house and garden. We loved the little touches, flowers everywhere, fresh water and fruit in rooms and ample tea, coffee + milks. Yummy breakfasts and a wonderful team of staff. Nothing is too much trouble, served with humour and care. A real home from home and base for visiting the area. Nothing really, it is a very old building going back to the 1300s. So very cottagey tho the bedrooms very open bright and spacious
- Jane (10/5): A delightful and heartwarming place to stay, full of character and kindess. - My husband is disabled and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful, kind, empathetic and generous. I felt helped and understood at every step and can't thank the Cott team warmly enough. If I can I will come again on my own without the need for a whole team of staff to support my husband too! The winding stairs aren't really suitable for disabled visitors, but we knew that and chose to come anyway - this was a second home to us as locals for many years.
- Hanspeter (10/5): - Wir waren schon oft im Cott Inn und werden sicher wieder in den Cott gehen.
Essen, Trinken, Personal, alles ist gut
- Andrew (7/5): Extremely average - It was quaint Location, tired accommodation, terrible mattress, soft pillow, lukewarm shower, very noisy as above bar, overpriced
- Claire (8/5): -
- Richard (10/5): Beautiful building and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again and recommend. - The location was lovely, the Inn was beautiful and we loved the old vibe. Evening meals were lovely, The cooked breakfast wasn’t the best, it was ok but just ok!
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - The food was excellent. The staff are all amazing. The room was comfortable and clean Nothing. We could not have found fault if we had tried. All of the people working in the Cott Inn are amazing.

- Chris (10/5): Would highly recommend this inn - Historic building, first time staying in a 700 year old thatched roof building, loved it. The staff were amazing. Room was well decorated, clean and quiet. Food was delicious. We have been traveling throughout England for the last month and hands down one of the best breakfasts. Nothing all good
- Jane (8/5): -
- Jessie (10/5): Exceeding well worth staying - Cott Inn was excellent and Landlord Mark was so helpful and suggested what we can do and see in Dartington. The staff were so friendly and helpful making you feel so comfortable
- Janet (8/5): - Really wanted to give this enchanting Inn a 10. So full of character. Breakfast and dinner exceptional. It's a very busy venue and staff communication caused some confusion during our first evening dinner service. The second evening showed just how wonderful it could be?
We would definitely return. Very little.
- Helen (10/5): Great venue and experience.would go again - Exceptional welcome and staff.
Great meal choices and quality
Unspoilt cosy pub Nothing
- Paul (10/5): Super dog friendly stay with a good food menu. - Great welcome, all staff were friendly and helpful. Shower cubical on the small size.
- Susan (9/5): Would definitely visit again when in the area. - The property was in a great location for visiting places in South Devon. The staff were friendly. The food is excellent. Comfortable room.
- JEREMY (9/5): Lovely short stay in Dartington - Lovely historic thatched pub with loads of history. Very friendly staff looked after me well on my short visit.
Room was lovely with the best bed / bedding I've had in ages! Bathroom had a bath which is quite rare these days. Nice facilities including good coffee (Cafetiere) and even provided ear plugs! The bathroom extractor works, which is unusual!
Free parking was a bonus. Location is quite and a little remote but I was aware of that before my visit.
Room was quite small and had no desk (which was not an issue for this visit)
TV is very small by current standards
- David (8/5): Excellent food and fantstic service too. ten out ten !!! -
- Deborah (10/5): Very enjoyable. Lovely staff and amazing history. -
- Fiona (8/5): -
- Flossie (10/5): CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH - Absolutely everything was perfect That I had to leave
- DEREK (10/5): Very professional team great food, atmosphere and entertainment - Comfortable and atmospheric
- Natasha (10/5): Staff couldn’t do enough to make you feel welcome, had a lovely time - Love this place - highly recommend
- Edward (8/5): comfortable and friendly - The best aspect was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Breakfast was very nice and the service and flexibility was excellent. They allowed me to bring an extra guest for breakfast on 2 days.
The evening meals were also delicious and quite reasonably priced.
My room was very comfortable. Though the TV did not work that well. Wifi problems, I think. TV wifi.
The price was quite high but I do understand that all hotels in the area are now quite expensive. And I did feel the value for money was reasonable.
- John (8/5): Made to feel very welcome. - Food was excellent and the staff were very friendly.
- nell (9/5): -

- DEREK (10/5): Great food, great place, great service. - Excellent customer care, quality and environment.
- Kerry (10/5): Another wonderful stay at The Cott Inn... - Our second stay at The Cott on business and as usual the staff couldn't be more accommodating. We had dinner on the Sunday and once again the food was exceptional. We had to leave for work before their usual breakfast time really started but they allowed us to pre-order the night before so we could grab it and go. If you are offered the home made yoghurt and compote - make sure you have it - it's divine!
- Andrew (9/5): My new go-to place to stay when in South Devon for work - The staff were all really friendly, helpful and polite. The bed was extremely comfortable, the shower incredible and the food delicious.
- Sarah (9/5): Beautiful building with great food - Lovely pub, great food, comfortable room. A bit noisy in the room whilst the pub was open in the evening (an old building so noise travels) but lovely and quiet overnight.
- Simon (8/5): An enjoyable stay in a wonderful old building with great service. - Great location and fine service. The room was comfortable, and we liked the old building with its thatched roof and quaint features. Though the bedroom was comfortable, we would have liked at least one comfortable chair to sit in, and a desk to work at.
- Adam (9/5): A really fantastic getaway for New Years Eve. - Pub had lots of character, Staff were excellent. Dartington is beautiful. Food was amazing. TV in the room was very dated (not that it was worth complaining about)
- David (10/5): -
- Joanne (8/5): - Excellent food/dinner menu and very good breakfast. Pub with lots of character. Comfortable bed, helpful staff. Room was above bar/restaurant and they were very busy so lots of noise. Earplugs were provided and it did get quieter at 10.30pm.
- Larraine (10/5): An historic pub with great food and comfortable accommodation. - From first to last, the staff were always helpful. The pub was very busy for Christmas meals, but I could always get what I wanted. This is an historic pub, but the rooms have been decorated and upgraded to the best quality. The food is excellent. It comes with the historic pub ambiance that the stairs are very steep. Something to be aware of... but I could always get staff to carry things for me.
- Teresa (10/5): - Great food, so efficiently served friendly staff great breakfasts!!
- Linda (10/5): -
- Corinne (9/5): We were made to feel very welcome by the lady who checked us in and had a very nice breakfast. The Port in our room was - Very helpful team members Bathroom was a bit cool
- GEOFFREY (9/5): This is our “go to “ place to stay whenever we visit Totnes. -
- peter (9/5): Enjoyable stay in a busy , well managed inn - Good situation. Helpful staff . Good food and drink. Good fires.Parking
- Juliette (9/5): Lovely - Traditional but comfortable and clean with great room
- Jenny (10/5): - Loved everything about it.. staff, ambience, food and location! Wait time for food was longer than expected. However food was fab when it arrived and staff where attentive
- Barrie (10/5): Cosy coaching in with an amazing breakfast. - The room was really nicely furnished and the staff were very helpful, the Breakfast was excellent. To be expected from a pub as old as this, but only having single glazing meant it was quite noisy in our room when the pub closed.
- William (10/5): Great little inn with friendly staff! - Great little place! Absolutely fabulous breakfast! The bed was super comfy and the staff and owners were very friendly and helpful and welcoming. I really can’t wait to stay here again in the very near future! Absolutely nothing! It was perfect!
- rachel (8/5): -
- Kerry (9/5): A lovely family feel and we will certainly recommend and return! - Fantastic and clearly very popular local pub. The food was incredible and everyone from staff to guests were friendly and chatty and made the whole stay extremely pleasant. Lots of lovely touches including ear plugs by the bed as the bar below which is busy and has a lovely atmosphere can still be heard if you are looking for an early night. All in all we thought it was excellent value for money. Our room was well equipped though a bit small (but then we are really tall people lol) but had an en-suite bathroom with a loft hatch that had mould on it so it would be good if this was kept on top of as it slightly took the shine off the facilities .
- Janet (8/5): - Old world inn.
Buzzing bar.
Great service
Large room ,fruit and even port Kitchen ( below room)extractor fan noisy in room.
- Joshua (10/5): Great stay, amazing staff. - Beautiful historic building, incredibly devoted and hardworking employees, creating exceptional food with excellent service. Super friendly, very accommodating.
- Anna (10/5): -
- juliet (8/5): Lovely atmospheric and comfortable hotel with excellent restaurant - Delicious breakfast and dinner was excellent. Very atmospheric and welcoming pub with friendly staff and warm rooms Slightly noisy from the pub below during opening hours. Water wasn't very hot
- Neil (6/5): - Great Food Room was very small, creaky floor boards, noise from corridor, small bathroom, small TV, creaky bed.
No room in the bar to sit and have a drink unless eating.
- peter (10/5): Great cosy overnight stay. - Felt very welcoming and cosy, great food both at dinner and at breakfast.
great stopover on a whirlwind trip to Devon Nothing
- Aegir (8/5): -
- Julie (8/5): An enjoyable stay at this lovely old inn. - The breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed our evening meals eaten in. The bedroom was cosy with everything we needed. The bed was a bit soft for my husband who suffers with bad backs and the shower not quite high enough for him.
- Marco (8/5): -
- Carol (10/5): A most relaxing and comfortable night away! -
- Anne (10/5): Absolutely superb - The entire stay was extremely pleasurable.
The food was superb, and the staff, obviously, hand picked, were absolutely amazing.
Too much negativity in this industry.
This place is a superb example of Hospitality performing at its very best. Not enough parking...but not really a criticism, merely an observation.
- Katie (8/5): -
- Lee (10/5): -
- Philippa (10/5): Would definitely go back again! - The staff and food were exceptionally good. Made to feel very welcome and throughout our stay we were treated very well. Big shout-out to the chefs - evening meals and breakfast were excellent.
Thought it was good value for money and very convenient to get to the places we wanted to visit
- Simon (10/5): -
- Christopher Turner (3/5): Disappointing - It is a very old pub, and yet the staff told us at 10.35 on a Saturday night , with a big smile on their face, the bar is now closed , even to residents. As above
- Mark (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Perfect weekend - Everything great staff and food
- Roger (8/5): Excellent venue with great atmosphere and superb food - Great Character & atmosphere Little sound insulation between bedrooms but accept it is an old coaching inn!
