Guest Reviews
- karen (4/5): I would not recommend this place to anyone! - I'm afraid the Trail Inn is on its way out. Check in was at 4:00. We had reservations in June for stay in August. The room hadn't been cleaned yet. When we came back 1 1/2 hours later, pillows not on bed, etc. Cracks in the windows.
No curtains on bathroom windows. skimpy curtain on one bedroom window. We used towels to cover. Fan in one bedroom broken shield, dangerous to use. Unkept grounds. restaurant closed for season already and no one in office most of time. Sad, sad place.
- christopher (10/5): - Clean rooms- staff was friendly
- Harriet (10/5): - This is a special place. It has been there since 1922.
- Chen (6/5): Old but good - Very isolated and quiet, food options available in the area in few minutes drive
Old facility but gave us what we needed for the night
It was clean and the staff was very kind.
The area is absolutely amazing for hiking and visiting
- Jamie (4/5): - Bed fell apart. Toilet was unstable. Smoke alarm was going off all night and we could not reach it to take the battery out. No way to contact owners. We left a night early.
- Manuela (6/5): Things to improve on - Internet didn't work in room and bed was terrible .
- Christy (8/5): - The outside of the cabin looked a little rough, but the inside was clean, neat, and a great fit for our family. The setting is beautiful, surrounded by scenic mountains that made the location feel peaceful and remote. Our main issue was the lack of connectivity. There was no cell service, and although WiFi was advertised, it didn’t reach our cabin. If we needed to make a call, send a text, or look something up online, we had to walk down to the restaurant. For a property this remote, reliable WiFi access in all guest areas is essential.
- Carolyn (10/5): - Room was clean and comfortable. Dining options are limited to several places. The establishment offers dining as well on site.
- Maria (6/5): Pleasant -
- Brent (8/5): Very good -
- Lynn (8/5): The owners were very helpful and gave good advice of the area and were most helpful. - It is a rustic cabin! Don’t expect the convenience of the city. It’s quiet and peaceful The restaurant was closed but we knew that ahead of time so we expected it, it would be nice.
- Ashley (10/5): - Check in was a breeze. Was greeted with a friendly, smiling face! Our cabin was perfect. Clean, spacious and cute! The stars from the front porch at night are breathtaking! Amazing river close by we took our 2 teenagers to check out and they loved. Beds and pillows were comfy. I will 100% recommend to everyone I know!
- kevin (10/5): - Great stay! Everything was excellent & great service.
- Dave (8/5): We thought the place was a good experience - Very clean, staff was great. fans were broken and small. no air conditioning
- Bryan (2/5): - This motel trades in its history, but has been let go to an extent that it needs considerable investment to bring it up or an acceptable standard. It is not in a great location and has little going for it.
I would never stay here again.
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional - The three bedroom was an authentic log cabin. Very cozy inside and resting between 2 beautiful mountains. The restaurant was a beautiful log cabin with fancy table settings but it was closed.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Location is as good as any for getting into the Yellowstone East entrance. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, and I was introduced with a handshake. My kind of people! I was very pleased with the entirety of our 3 night stay.
- Dodson (9/5): Superb - The location was amazing right on the river and only 30 min to the East entrance of Yellowstone. Their restaurant was closed, and staff wasn't around much, but that wasn't all bad. We saved money cooking our own meals, and the privacy was great.
- Veronica (9/5): Superb -
- Lucy (8/5): Nice little cabin - Location. And it had 3 beds. Not enough outlets. The bedroom with 2 beds the window did not open. Maybe I just could not figure it out. Would have been nice to have a good breeze rolling thru.
- Ozbike (8/5): Very good - The cabins were comfortable and the restaurant had good food
- Malcolm (10/5): We had a wonderful stay in the rustic cabins and drives into Yellowstone. - We loved the real log cabins and rural area. Our cabin was perfect for the six of us to relax, play games, make our own breakfast, and sleep in comfortable bedrooms. We drove into Yellowstone multiple days. The staff were helpful. Dinner one night in the cafe was nice. Our stay here was great and way better than a plain corporate hotel.
- Nat (1/5): Bad - The location is beautiful and convenient when visiting Yellowstone. So it is a shame that apart from that our stay was so bad. We were supposed to stay at this place for 3 nights, to chill after visiting Yellowstone. The first evening, we realised before going to bed that the sheets were not fresh (with hair and blood(?) stains) and the door to the cabin did not close. It was not possible to contact anyone about it, so we barely slept that night as we did not feel secure.
Next morning, when we finally managed to contact the hosts, they said that they can try to repair the door in the late afternoon, but did not provide any alternative if the repair was unsuccessful. This would mean that we would need to stay at that cabin again as we had plans for the evening and would not have time to find another accommodation then.
Additionally, even though I asked the housekeeping to change the sheets and they promised to do it, it was not done - they only made the bed.
The door was repaired eventually, but because of the initial lack of clarity of what they can do and the dirty sheets we decided to move to another place for the remaining 2 nights. The Inn did not offer any compensation, even for the night that we spent in dirty sheets and with a broken door.
- Joyce (6/5): This place may have been a “10” 20 years ago, it’s not worth the price now. - The property was in a great location. It was about a half hour outside of the entrance to Yellowstone and a half hour away from Cody. The room was very outdated. The bathroom look like they started to remodel, but then gave up. The sink was almost hanging off the wall, and the toilet had to be put on shims. The shower was so tiny you could barely move around in it. They never came around to refresh our towels. The door to the cabin was very hard to close and stay latched. The curtains on the windows weren’t long enough to cover the whole window and they were light colored and didn’t block out the light.
- Stephanie (10/5): - The view from our cabin was breathtaking & majestic.
The restaurant on site was fabulous- Stephanie who ran the restaurant & checking guests in was an absolute delight. I loved every moment we spent there.
- Cindy (3/5): Not a good value - I liked the quaintness of the log cabins and that they were remodeled in a ranch decor. The bathroom was very clean but the toilet was too close to the wall for comfort and there was a hole in the wall going to the outside that could be seen through. The floor was also slanted.
- Galina (8/5): Very good -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Historic cabins with older furnishings - The furniture really needs to be updated. The beds are firm. The shower was difficult to manage. There will be no phone signal, but the management will send you a message to warn you. Please note that the WiFi does not reach all of the cabins from the central lodge. You will also be paying your entire balance at the hotel, not through Expedia/Hotels regardless of what the website says. The restaurant there is very good, but plan to make a reservation as it is small and lots of people come to eat. The scenery around the cabins is beautiful. It’s about a half hour to the east gate of Yellowstone, but plan extra time to reach anything in the park.
- Jennifer (6/5): - More information on check out process. Check out is at 10 but no one was on site. The roof in the bathroom leaked
- Elliot (9/5): Superb -
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victoria (10/5): It was a stellar experience! I am including the room from the front of our cabin. - Yes, the location is absolutely gorgeous, and we were not familiar with the Shawnee national Forest up until this time. The people working there are so kind and went out of their way to help us, even though we arrived late and had our dinner after they were really closed. The chef, Steph, if we are able to guided us on our visit to the park, as we only had one day. She sent us to the most beautiful locations, and her enthusiasm and background was invaluable! Also, Lodge/ dining room, which is on the property is absolutely gorgeous and the food was very good! They can afford to put up a few more hooks in the rooms.
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patsy Phone (10/5): - The cabins are quant and charming as well as comfortable and well kept
- Chad (8/5): Very good -
- Connie (8/5): - Owner was nice and welcoming. Enjoyed our stay. Very quiet. Bathroom has been updated.
- Peter (8/5): - Half a roll of toilet paper in room. Emergency phone number for owner/manager did not connect. Air space to outside in bathroom behind the toilet. Restaurant on premises not open. 25 miles to nearest town to get something to eat.
- Lisa (9/5): Superb - It was clean and bed was comfortable. Toilet kept running and shower was small.
- Lora (8/5): - While the outside cabin was not very attractive, the inside is very cute. Jason was very nice and accommodating.
- Ilsa (8/5): The staff at the restaurant were exceptional and all were very helpful and nice - It was clean and comfortable and out of town It’s an older property and could use some upgrades
- Grant (8/5): Very good - Cool location next to the river, nice rustic cabin, comfortable beds. No AC in the cabin I was in... I was not expecting that. It does cool down nicely after sunset. So it worked out OK.
- Rachel (10/5): - parking was easy, private cabins, quiet, beautiful location. Disappointed that restaurant was closed and we were not notified until we arrived. We would have shopped more in Cody prior to arriving. Lovely place. Would return.
- Debi (4/5): A place to sleep to get us to Yellowstone. - Beautiful view from the front window. Very nice staff
Conveniently located to east gate entrance to Yellowstone Extremely dated. Dangerous steps to get into room. Couldn’t get tv to work. No electricity to air conditioner when we arrived. Kind of seemed like a room from the 1950’s. Tiny tiny tiny
- Ann (7/5): Good - The room was comfortable temperature wise and the room was very clean with the exception noted below. The fitting sheet had a large yellow/brown spot on it. The sign from the highway was not lit 2 out of the four nights we stayed. That made it difficult to find the first 2 night.
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (9/5): We really had a great time, wish we had more time as did not get to try the restaurant. - It was clean and everything worked, except 1 stand up fan. Wish we had been closer to Yellowstone, but, we were glad we went into Cody as it has an awesome museum.
- Benjamin (8/5): - The area was gorgeous! We had a bit of trouble with checking in and the fridge wasn’t working, but the guy did get it fixed. There were a couple areas within the cabin that had sizable cracks and we could see outside. But over all it was quaint
- Edward O (4/5): - Close to the park entrance. Not worth it though. Leaky plumbing, poorly maintained property. Bed was at an extreme angle. Asked to have corrected, and they could not. The frame was bolted to the wall? These were tge highlights though. Too many maintenance issues to list. Do not stay here.
- Polona (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable room. Nice and friendly staff.
- Yao-chung (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (7/5): Good -
- Ann (10/5): Excellent accommodations - Staff were efficient and a pleasure to work with. The food was excellent. N/A
- Leslie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Dawn (7/5): Good -
- Brittni (9/5): A lovely little cabin! Would come again. - The staff was friendly and helpful. The cabin was just what we needed for a 1 night stay. Everything was clean and well taken care of. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay to visit Yellowstone.
- Scarlet (9/5): Superb - Perfectly decent place to stay near Yellowstone. Wifi not that strong but it’s no bother - you can sit outside and get it.
- Brooke (10/5): - Did not know what to expect- great location
Great food
- CARMA (10/5): - The cabin was bigger than a hotel room with nice, comfortable beds for everyone in our family. The location was a wonderful get away set out side of town. The on site restaurant served very delicious food.
- Heidi (8/5): Very good -
- Ekaterina (8/5): Charming place to stay at beautiful surrounding close to Yellow stone park - This is a very cozy mountain cabin, charming, rustic, but simple. Good value and everything you need is here Too basic, would be great to have some utensils and plates in the room. Other than that it was great!
- Amiee (10/5): - Cute little rooms by the river
- Kim (7/5): Good -
- Melissa (10/5): - The location is beautiful and peaceful. The cabin was a great size for my family of 6. The bathroom fixtures were a little crowded but it didn’t bother us. The restaurant was closed when we were there which was a bummer but we would definitely go back!
- Kathryn (8/5): Very good -
- penny (6/5): - Loved the restaurant and the fact that it was built in 1924. The history and character
- tina (10/5): Loved our stay - Amazing experience staying here. Fabulous food, very clean and comfortable cottage with amazing views and friendly staff!!
Many thumbs up!!
- Simone (10/5): - This was a beautiful place with outstanding staff!!! Highly recommend!
- Kathy (7/5): Good -
- Patrick (8/5): Very good -
- Bryan (9/5): Beautiful area - Good location. Only thing no kitchen area at all. Small frig and microwave only would have been nice to have some sort of stove
- Carol (6/5): - No outlets in bathroom. The restaurant was very good. Nice decor and variety of food.
- George (6/5): - The room we stayed in was adequate. The wall dividing us from the next room over looked hastily completed and the bathroom floor wasn’t level. I think the log cabin had been built as something else and then hastily converted to a motel room.
The biggest issue we had was that the restaurant wasn’t open while we were there, even though it was listed as a dining option on the Expedia listing. (It wasn’t open for dinner or breakfast.) We had to leave the property to get breakfast, so we just packed up, checked out early, and headed into town.
- Kelli (8/5): We enjoyed our stay and would stay again - Cozy accommodations, quiet Bed a little uncomfortable, shower leaked continuously
- Barry (6/5): Pleasant -
- Maggie (8/5): Beautiful area and clean rooms. But need staff around thru out the day - The quiet setting in the mountains with flowing water! Loved sitting on the front porch of the office/restaurant having my morning coffee and enjoying the views and listening to the water. The fact that no employee was around at all and no one ever came to take the trash out of our room or provide new begs and clean towels
- Dian (7/5): Good -
- Elizabeth (7/5): Worked fine for a young family - The setting next to the river, in trees and lilac bushes, at the base of jagged hills was picturesque. The beds were comfortable, WiFi was nice although a bit spotty. It suited us for being halfway between Yellowstone and Cody. The couch was shot—so bad there was no cushion support if you sat on it, you just sank all the way down. There was no coffee pot or mugs with the provided coffee supplies. A large gap between the window frame and the AC/heater unit allowed air, noise, and bugs to come in.
- Mark (8/5): - Good
- Larry Bailey (10/5): - Beautiful area! Great staff and clean well cared for cabins.
- Branum (6/5): Pleasant -
- Heather (9/5): Superb - This rustic cabin accommodation was our favourite stay of our trip - the room had everything we needed for a comfortable night, the location was gorgeous, and the on-site restaurant provided a really delicious and fresh dinner, with great ambiance. We would totally recommend it!
- Eva (9/5): We had a wonderful time and will stay there again if we return to the area. - Lovely Inn on the way to YNP East entrance. Dinner and drinks are available. We enjoyed drinks on the porch in the evening. It was great. Nothing really. It was great. Maybe a little pricey, but it was the best value around.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (4/5): - For greater than $200 a night you get to experience a small cabin that likely doesn't pass local building codes. The lights are dim and flicker like you're in a horror movie, the mattresses and pillows are of the cheapest quality. There is zero lighting outside apart from the sign leading you in, but that wasn't always on, this is bear country after all.
The toilet is so close to the wall you can't sit on it straight and good luck trying to figure out the shower; The valve must be the design of someone's drunk uncle, just when you got the water warm enough, the shower is about to overflow because it doesn't drain fast enough, because the tile lip on the floor is very shallow, then you have to turn the water down and surprise, you either have scalding hot or ice cold. There is no indication of hot or cold. I had a dead bug under my pillow like a gift from the tooth fairy. The restaurant when open was great and the management was very professional, kind and helpful. I give this place a failing grade of 2 out of 5, it would be a 1 but the staff earned themselves an extra star. Maybe I just got the bad cabin. New shower valves, cheap solar yard lights and turning the water temp down on the water heater would go a long way here.
- Yarin (10/5): - No signal or Wi-Fi in cabins
- Jennifer (8/5): - This is a great place to get away and just be with your thoughts and self. They only serve dinner. The closet breakfast is a drive away. There was mouse poop on our bedding when we got there, but what do u expect when this place is located in the middle of nowhere. This place is located Wapiti, not Cody. The staff was nice. Our toilet did not work in our original room, so they gave us a second room that was ajoining. So we ended up withb2 rooms, 1 working toilet, 5 beds. Overall it was a great nights sleep.
- PATRICIA (10/5): - El area esta hermoso, tiene una vista espectacular, el cuarto está limpio y los que atienden son muy amables!!
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Myself and my two traveling buddies agree this location and Staff far exceeded our expectations! - The location, the amenities and the staff especially Tatiani. Very friendly and a great representative for the business. She has an ownership attitude. Nothing
- Scott (1/5): This place sucks! - NOTHING!!! There was no AC and the lady said that was how the room was advertised! Which I did not notice apparently, or I would never, ever have reserved that room,! Then on top of that, the toilet did NOT work, and she told us to "just Hold down the lever longer"! DUMB. Tried it and it still didn't work. She brought us a plunger, and that didn't work. We left, came back and they supposedly called a plumber who said he couldn't fix it immediately and would have to go "find" a "snake" and would take 1-2 hours! WE LeFT. Same as above. Horrible and will never recommend this place.
- Darcy (9/5): Superb - It was nice remote location. They let us know the radius for the wi-fi. Made a point of letting us have plumbing that was well in order. Very cozy and rustic while still having a working fridge and microwave for food. It was clean and well kept. Beds were a bit firmer than we were used to. Also wish we could have tried out the accompanying restaurant while there but it was completely booked.
- Janice (9/5): Nice but no ice or breakfast until after 8:15 am - Clean and friendly. The restaurant served the best chicken Parmesan we’ve ever had. They were closed until 8:15 in morning. They advertised pastries, etc between 8:15 and 10. Travelers often like to be on the road before 8 so no breakfast for us. Also promised us ice but were closed after dinner and until 8:15.
- Phillip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Goss (4/5): I would not stay at this property again. Yellowstone Inn is up the road and closer to town and alot - There was a restaurant there but it was not open due to staffing issues. That being said it is 18 miles from nearest place to eat so when we arrived the person working and checked us in made sure we had something to eat after a long days drive. He went and made us up burgers and fries which was very good! The room had not been rented for a long time and TV would not work when we got there. The staff had to call someone to help figure it out. In the middle of the night something was chewing and making noise near the garbage can and our snack bag we had brought. My husband got up and turned on the light to discover a rat had come in from a hole in the wall under the bathroom sink!!!
- Maximilian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ted (8/5): Very good -
- Nikhil (1/5): Bad -
- Aroon (8/5): Unique and authentic accommodation in the mountains - We loved the traditional feel of the log cabin. It was nice to have two separate rooms. The location is really good, about 20 minutes from Yellowstone East entrance. We had dinner in the restaurant too, which was really nice and not overpriced. As with all accommodation in the Yellowstone area, it was dear, but this is probably the best price.
- Nancy (10/5): - This was a very unique property! You will never find such a place with an incredible view!! Very close to Yellowstone but very quiet and peaceful
- Randy (9/5): Superb -
