Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We loved this place... I just wish they provided good directions on how to get there! Between addresses being in Euskara and roads not well identified we had a hard time following the GPS as it kept wanting us to go into a private road that lead no where other than a house. Once we arrived, there was nobody there. We found a nice couple down the street who knew the person in charge and contacted him for us, he then proceeded to give us the code to get into the house. A sign said that breakfast was between 9:00 and 10:30. We went downstairs at 9:30 am and there was nobody there. We took our belongings and left. He called us to apologize but got into a car problem and count'd be there to prepare breakfast. On the upside, another couple (from Argentina) that was staying there arrived about 30 minutes after we did and we enjoyed a nice evening conversing and sharing their dinner!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed here for one night as part of a bicycle tour across France and Spain. The hosts were so friendly. We had relied on the restaurant being open in the evening but it wasn’t (worth checking ahead if you do want to use it) but the hosts were so accommodating and kind to us. The room is a good size with a comfy bed and very clean. Breakfast was good too. We could not recommend it highly enough.
- MARTHA (8/5): Muy bueno yo volvería - Me
- Gerald (4/5): Lovely property, disappointing service - The property is very attractive, and our room was pleasant with stone walls, and a very modern bathroom. The Palacio Horkasitas has been renovated to a high standard. We had booked a 'Comfort room with a mountain view'. Our room faced the front, and the view was mainly of the car park. We had some difficulty finding the property, as Artzentales was not on our satnav, and a local lady kindly drove ahead of us to help us locate the hotel. It is up a one lane road off the main road, with a sign saying Barrio Horkasitas, which was easy to miss. We arrived at 8pm, expecting to have a meal in the restaurant which was advertised on the website, but on arrival we were informed that the restaurant was not open and that we would have to drive back to Balmaseda to get a meal. This was not what we planned, tired after a day of travel. I asked about restaurants in a little supermarket in Balmaseda, but was told they didn't open mid-week. There were bars open, nothing more. We were disappointed to find that breakfast at the Palacio Horkasitas is not served till 9am. We were woken at 6am by a shower running in an adjoining room. Internal walls are very thin there. We went down for breakfast at 9am, and were shortly joined by another couple, but there was no sign of any breakfast service. No staff, and just some croissants left on a table. At 9.15, we gave up and checked out. Luckily the room was pre-paid. We found our passports had been left out on the table in reception overnight.
- Jane (10/5): September Stay - Absolutely beautiful spot, good car park - little difficult to find (needs a better sign) but well worth it
when you arrive. Made to feel extremely welcome, large room and comfortable bed.
Breakfast good and plentiful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very beautiful hotel in an amazing location. Excellent food, friendly and very helpful staff. Would definitely recommend!
- Mechelle (10/5): Great place to stay - We stayed here as a stopover I the way to the Pyrenees grim Santander, and had the loft apartment (2 adults and 2 kids) so we had plenty of space. Easy to park, which was important to us with our campervan. Our host was very accommodating and a great cook! Would stay again.
- Francois (8/5): Superb auberge in the mountain - Very nice small " auberge" in the mountainous landscape near Bilbao - great views and friendly, casual service and very welcoming dogs.
We were traveling thru the region and stopped for 1 night to experience countryside hospitality in the Basque country. We had a family suite with high stone walls and wooden ceiling. Nice dinner and breakfast on the terrasse overlooking the valley.
Highly recommend it.
- Cecile (10/5): A real Palace - Amazing place. Beautiful design in a historical building. Very friendly owners and staff.
Great for family, great bathroom and shower. Good breakfast.
Highly recommended!
- Barbara (10/5): A dream place to stay - Idyllic, tranquil and absolutely beautiful place to stay in the mountains, yet only a short drive to Bilbao. The hosts were warm and most welcoming. The food was top notch and rooms clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. You felt right at home!! Hope to return again.
- Shaun (10/5): - A lovely hotel in a beautiful location with excellent views yet only 25 minutes from Bilbao city centre. Simon, our host, was attentive to our every need and produced a lovely dinner followed by a hearty breakfast the following morning. Thanks
