Guest Reviews
- Mélissa Vicky (10/5): - The staff was beyond helpful. I really liked the cozy little room, the bed was comfortable, everything worked within the room, there was hot water… I really have nothing to complain about. It is close to everything but very quiet for the area. I would definitely stay here again.
- Lydia (2/5): - Not enough water to flush toilets and no hot water for showers!

- Jose (2/5): - Never checked in dirty cockroaches when we walked in
- brithany (10/5): - Place is too loud on the first floor.
- Eduardo (10/5): - Exelente lugar y mucha comodidad
- Aric (8/5): Way overpriced. - The room was very clean. The beds were comfortable. They almost double their prices for New Year's weekend. It is a very basic hotel with no amenities but we paid the price of an expensive hotel.
- Luis Alberto (10/5): - Precio atencion y ubicación excelentes

Felicidades.
- David (10/5): - Very informative and friendly front desk. Rooftop hammocks!
- Erica (2/5): - Horrible place never again
- Emilie (6/5): Good but very noisy - The room was okay, clean, confortable bed, clean bathroom. However it's hard to sleep at night when there is a night club in front of hotel and not possible to close window. Ear plugs needed.
Internet didn't reach in the room I was.
- S (8/5): Great location and staff but bar opposite is loud - Go expecting a basic hotel with no frills and you won't be disappointed. Perfect location within a block of the ADO terminal; Playa del Carmen colectivos start point is opposite and similarly the Mahahual colectivo drop off. Great restaurants nearby. Best selling point is the wonderful reception staff. BUT bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper; the bar opposite is loud and goes on until late; the hotel could also put up no noise after 10pm signs to keep its guests under control. Segregated rubbish bins were good but no water refill.
- Kerry (10/5): - Very close to bus stop and many restaurants. Other reviews complained of noise but we were on first floor on Friday and Saturday night and had no problem. Fine hotel for the price
Local limpo!
Adoramos
- Brian (10/5): - Lovely staff and nice spacious room. The beds were comfortable and the pillows were fantastic. The AC worked good. My only complaint is that there's no water pressure at all in the shower, at least not in our room (room 7). It was so difficult to shower with the tiny drizzle that came out and i couldn't wash my hair for 4 days. Not the end of the world though.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Check in was not the smoothest, it says multilingual staffs but in fact there were only 1 receptionist who speaks broken english. It’s written toiletries and towel are provided but there was only handsoap and no towels or so on. We went to the receptionist and ask for towels and he gave us two kinda cleaning cloth, the next morning they tidy up the room and exchange it with only 1 real towel.
There were also some mould on the bathroom’s wall :((
The corridor was smelly from the bin they left there. The room stays bright from the corridor lights that goes trough the window even we turned the lights off.
We took the deluxe room but it was just like the economy room, only + the AC, kinda the bad version of the picture.
We paid quite the same amount of money even less n got hell a lot better hotel room and service around there the other day.
Sorry to say but the only good thing from this property is the location.
- Daniel (8/5): Great place, budget, CLEAN! Return Customer. - I like Ruta. I'm a return customer and although there's no extras and it's just the basics, the price reflects that so it's an honest establishment. The lobby and rooms are always cleaned well. It looks and feels clean enough to walk barefoot. The sheets look pressed and very white (although thin) they are good quality and not old. The mattresses I've had here range from good to really good. There's only a few lights in the room but it seems adequately lit. If you paid extra for AC in the room, both I've had so far blow very cold and are newer. The non AC rooms get warm but me and my girlfriend did fine keeping both screened windows open for cross flow. And it's the jungle so you should initiate yourself to the heat for at least a night or two, haha. Great location next to the bus stop from Playa Del Carmen and Cancun (ADO). 2/3 of room showers I had, have great water pressure (remember older building older pipes and fixtures) the low flow one still got us clean no problem, just took a little longer. Friendly staff, minus one guy who's not here anymore. Friendly professional cleaners. Belongings have been safe. Leave a small tip they seem to appreciate the thought. It's rustic but a good place. ✌️
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Just your basic bare bones hotel. Their standard room does have air conditioning. At a nominal extra $ charge. But the ceiling fan do work.
As for the bed. It has barely enough cushioning to be considered firm. Still doable. Now for the bathroom, it does have a very clean shower, sink, with a flimsy toilet seat.
There is also a simple small, wooden table and chair. Which is good enough for setting one's laptop computer for usage and reading books. Digital nomad's work station?
The room floor is all tile. Which is simpler to keep clean. Do wear a pair of rubber sandals. Great for foot cushioning and comfort.
While the building may be older, it is in good repair and is clean. Recommend to do bring ear plugs. This helps dampen hearing the nearby doors closing from the other rooms. Location in Tulum is pretty good. Taxis and busses are plentiful. The are restaurants and a couple bus stations within walking distance. Hope this helps.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - get ready to not sleep, I could not close my eyes all night from people partying in the street, its was torture, I booked for several days and then had to leave to sleep in another place the day after because it was torture,
I came back when they offered me a room in 3rd floor that had no noise, then I could sleep, and was good, but don't ever stay in the first floor.
- KALPAN (8/5): Good location - Good Value for money. Julio on reception. very helpful . Rooms a little run down . But generally good location and great for the price.
- KALPAN (8/5): Great location - Hotel great location . Good value .
Julio was really helpful .. a credit to the hotel .
It was because of him I stayed longer as I had extremely bad service in the sister hotel attached to this one . Do not expect 5 star luxury .. basic , clean and located well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): In the middle of Tulum - It is well placed site, close to all that you need in Tulum
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Staying there the first night was the worse nightmare. I could not close my eyes all night, lots of party and noise coming until 9 am of the next day.just at the time that I was leaving.
I had to leave the next day and ly another hotel because I needed to be able to sleep.
They would not refund the money
But the third day they offered to move me to another room and I moved and it was good. No noise.
So IF you stay make sure you are high up in the 3rd floor.
- Silvia (10/5): Simple & cute - It’s my second year I’m going there and I love it. Close to ADO bus station & restaurants.
Clean & comfortable bed. Lovely staff and the price is well balanced.
It’s a simple but cute place.
- Andrew (6/5): - The hotel was fine for the rate. But it wasn’t a very enjoyable stay. The room was tiny, the bed wasn’t comfortable. The hotel rents out bikes, but the two times we rented them we had issues and the staff didn’t seem to care. The first time the chain on one bike broke and we had to walk the bike home for about 3 miles. The second time we rented bikes we headed 15 miles south to a lagoon m. Well, the bike seat bolt broke, making it not rideable. We called the hotel for assistance as we were on a jungle road, away from civilization, but they said there was nothing they could do, to just walk back. Thankfully a car repair man stopped and had the tools to fix the bike. Finally, the hotel had guests screaming until 4 am on multiple nights. I asked the front desk staff if they could do something, yet the screaming and partying continued.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Verycomfortable. Air con worked well and pvided bulk shampoo.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don’t stay here - Horrible experience, the host at the front desk wanted to keep my CC overnight at his desk and could give no valid reason why. Then asked for me to pay for the room to his personal bank account, after I declined he desperately asked for a virtual CC. The host was shady as the hotel manager.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Budget hotel that ticks most boxes - Great location, close to all amenities, friendly staff
- Darius (10/5): good place for this price - everything was good just no ac
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly budget hotel - Budget hotel next to ADO bus terminal, basic, but ticks all the boxes, WiFi wasn’t working at the time... luckily I had data, would stay here again
- Silvia (8/5): Good! - Great location
- Martin (8/5): - It was a very nice basic room. I loved the idea of the hammocks in the room. Fun for the kids. We only spent one night and it was great for what we wanted/ needed! My only complaint is that our shower was slightly clogged and backed up on us. The staff were wonderful and I enjoyed our stay!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They lied about having breakfast, the room smelled terribly had to asked to be changed.
- Silvia (8/5): Great place & friendly helpful staff - I loved this place. I had my private room, with window and A/C. Very clean. The staff was kind and helpful. It could get noisy specially on high season but with earplugs no trouble at all. Highly recommended it and a big plus for me is that’s pet friendly.
ONLY ONE DOWNSIDE. I HAD TO GET UP FROM BED TO SEITCH OFF THE LIGHT. NXT TO THE BED WOUKD BE MUCH BETTER 😅 but other then that definitely a 10!
- gustavo (10/5): Solo trip - It was a great experience
- Andrea (10/5): - Great hotel and location! We were very comfortable here and the staff was super helpful! It is right on the main street of Tulum and super close to the ADO bus station which was really helpful when it came time to catch our 7 am bus. Would definately stay here again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was amazing. Great tips for around Tulum. The beds were hard an not comfortable and being in the middle of town, night noises.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great staff that is very helpful with directions and suggestions about local sites. I'd say take earplugs- best decision I made. There is a giant echo noise inside, and if it's prime party season (I was there Jan 7-10) you can hear outdoor music until 4am. The room had exactly what I needed. The locks were secure; the place felt safe, esp with 24-hr front desk service and entry gate. Perfect boutique hotel if you're going to be out and about nearby with walking or bike rentals, or take a taxi to the nearby Papaya Playa for beachside entertainment, or a big bus to archeological ruin sites, or small buses (colectivo) up and down the main avenue in front of Ruta del Sol hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love staying here! Staff and vibes we're great. Perfect location too!
- Gil (8/5): - Was upgraded from a room with a fan to one with air conditioning at no extra cost. The room was spacious & clean. There was no TV or natural light in the room but these are minor as I wasn't in the room much. It is very close to the Ado bus station & you can hail a "collectivo" from the hostel to the main attractions & back easily.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed, really bad experience - Firstly the hotel is in a really good location, this i cannot fault. Close to good restaurants, the ADO station and everything you need in Tulum (other than the beach :P). Price was ok. Loud location from 11pm - 5am, bring earplugs.
Ok the bad. We travelled for 26 hours to get to Tulum, a huge journey so the last thing we wanted at 7pm was to argue with reception for an hour, yes an hour about the room.
I saw the paper with the room we were allocated, but this was not the room we were given. We were given a small, windowless room down a dark corridor. This also did not correspond with the pictures on Expedia.
We said why not the room written on the booking, we were told someone else was going to have it the following night. Wasn't it for us? Seemed that way. Anyway after a long argument they gave us the room we were supposed to have, which was a good room and we were happy. But why did we have to 'pull teeth' to get this.
This would have been a 9/10 review but this poor customer experience soured everything. Would not recommend on this basis.
- Mauricio (10/5): Good Hotel in Tulum - Great small hotel in an excellent location. The staff, Roberto specially was really knowledgeable about the region and willing to help.
Keep in mind this is a simple hotel and not a luxury resort, you get what you paid for.
- Kristan (6/5): Great for the Price - Hotels.com confirmed that the basic room had AC. This was not the case, however the owners generously granted me the Hotels.com price and were very nice. This is a simple place, but clean, safe and right on the main avenue. It is a very good deal for the price.
- Miguel (10/5): Just do it - We had not the best experience at another hotel in town which kicked us out and maybe scammed us out of $30US (not a lot and we're not fretting...) but Ruta Maya was incredible. The prices are great. The owners and staff are enthusiastic. Hotel staff are entitled to their own emotional space, but I'm just noting that they seemed to have a very positive air about them. I immediately liked the vibe.
