- Andrew (10/5): -
- Tammy (10/5): - The room was so clean and welcoming
- Brian (10/5): - The room was clean and well decorated. Area is quiet and easy to find. Staff made sure we were settled.
- Tracy (10/5): - Helpful owners. Clean room with everything you need.
- John (10/5): - nice king room close to downtown and north central bike trail. reasonable rates
- Bo (6/5): - The property is very dated. The room was clean, but cramped. The mattresses were uncomfortable, thick foam pads, not real mattresses. We never saw the proprietors. We arrived just after 6:00 pm to find a note taped to the office door with our room number. We did not use the shower which was small and rather unappealing.
- Robert (8/5): - Very nice stay. Pkeasant and quiet
- Connie (10/5): - Facilities were very clean with nice little decor touches. Beds so comfortable and rooms laid out nicely
- Amisha (4/5): - We got to our room before 9pm but the receptionist was already gone for the day and the office was closed. While we left the door to our room open for the few minutes it took us to bring in our luggage, a million mosquitos got into our room and bit us all night. The microwave in our room didn't work, and when we called the phone number that was provided to us (on a piece of paper taped to the door of the reception office), no one picked up or every called us back. We did not find an ice machine on the property either. It was a small bed and a small room overall, not close by to anything really. It's fine in a pinch, but just know that you'll be left on your own. The reception office was still not open the next morning, and we left after 8am. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the reception office to be open by that hour.
- Miriam (10/5): - The staff is very friendly and so helpful. It’s a very clean, well cared for Motel and a very pleasant place to stay. Would definitely book again.
- Jamie (8/5): Cute and reasonable - Our room was decorated nicely and clean. The only issue was the bathroom fan wasn’t working and when we took a shower everything seemed damp
- Brian (10/5): Nice room - This was a nice little hotel room, perfect for the night. It was clean, quiet, and easy to check in and out.
- MARC (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay and will visit this hidden gem again.
- Christina (10/5): - This is absolutely the most adorable place to stay.. The lady who owns it so nice. There was a mix up with our room when we booked it on line and she immediately came back and got us a bigger room. Such a lovely lady. Andrew very knowledgeable about the area.
- Daniel (9/5): - Clean, easy access, easy check-in,convenient parking, good location, good AC. Squeaky floor.
- lisa (10/5): - The only thing i didn't like was the room doesn't have enough places to put things, but it was only to sleep, so we made it work. The owners, Linda and her husband, were very nice!
- Patricia (10/5): Nice little place - The innkeeper had a welcome note on the lobby door, saying key was in our door.
Never did see them, but the the room was tidy and well equipped.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very nice and clean. We enjoyed our stay.
- Loretta (10/5): - Beautiful and very clean room!!! Perfect for an overnight stay if needing a place to rest for the evening!!!
- R (8/5): Ok for the price. - Mattress quality should be better (or replaced more often because of saggyness). It might be helpful if owners spent a night in the room to see the space limitations. Very clean though.
- Victoria (6/5): - Did the job, cute decor and seemed clean but shower needed serious work and could feel the people moving on the other aide of the wall
- Barb (10/5): - My immediate response as I walked into the room was "cute"! Pillow shams on queen-sized pillows, decorative pictures that were obviously chosen with care, and a macrame mirror in the bathroom. Those are what come to mind immediately. Very clean. A real bargain for being the least expensive hotel in Cheboygan! We'll come back!
- Bradley (10/5): - Nice stay!!!
- Marsha Woodbury (4/5): If you can find a nice hotel then do it. - This is not a place with breakfast or anything like that, but it was very cheap so what I liked about it was available. Location is right on a noisy highway. We took this room because motels were pretty sold out. It has two bedrooms, but only one of them has an air conditioner in it so it’s basically a single room with two beds. Lighting was an issue. Lit by lamps and one didn’t work.
- Angelica (10/5): - Easy to get in and out. We arrived late and left early. Checking in and out was a breeze.
- Elyn (8/5): -
- Olivia (10/5): - We really enjoyed our week-long stay in this charming motel. The owner is very responsive to needs and the room was great. Nicely decorated, very convenient, lots of parking, near to many attractions in the area. The bed was comfortable, the room is air conditioned and very nice.
- Matthew (10/5): - Really enjoyed the seamless self check-in/out. Room was nice and clean, bathrooms were clean, area seemed decent. Pretty close to downtown area so a very short drive/walk away from all sorts of shopping and dining. Would stay again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Happy with the Monarch---definately above average! - Newly remodeled and super clean. Very quiet area. Would be VERY happy to book again.
- Kayla (10/5): - Very pleasant stay
- Vaibhav (8/5): - Okay
- Faiz (8/5): - Owners Linda and Joe are just amazing. Linda keeps the place nice and tidy. It's a nice cute little place. Rooms are ok size but for night stay is good Not far from mackinaw city it's quiet area. Thank you Linda for your great service. .. FAIZ
- John (10/5): Great Stay in Cheboygan - Great Stay with kids - walk to the park, eat next door at iconic Yecks drive in, short drive into town and the state park for swimming. Kids really enjoyed their stay.
Also only a short drive to Mackinac City, the Michilimackinac Fort and St. Ignace across the mighty Mac. Bridge.
- Victoria (5/5): Passable -
- Timothy (10/5): - Love this place!!!! Highly recommend!!!!
- Tammy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Theresa (8/5): - It is an older motel but very clean and bed was comfortable. This was a quiet and safe place to rest.
- Anastasia (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay in Cheboygan and this was the perfect home base. It was cozy and clean.
- scott (8/5): - Very nice place to stay
- nocookingtonight (10/5): Sweet Mom and Pop motel with the kindest owner - The Monarch Motel is quaint, clean, and has delightful sweet decorating.
There is a mini frig and micro, comfortable bed, big fluffy towels, & the kindest owner/manager you’d ever want to meet. When I called to book the room her reply was ”it’s a beautiful day at the Monarch Motel”!!! Linda exudes joy and could easily become a best friend.
She directed us the next morning to go to the Tunnel of Trees on M-119 which was a delightful drive and I found a great shop on the right side coming out in Good Hart on the right side of the road called A-1.
Go try a Mom and Pop motel for a change and ENJOY!!
- SUSAN (10/5): - My husband and I had the privilege of staying at the hotel.
Room was ex
- Stephen (10/5): - The staff was friendly
- Peggy (8/5): Nice older motel - Older, but very clean motel Quiet and comfortable beds.
- Bonnie (6/5): - Very small for the price and street noise 2 diff rds very noisy .
- Regina (6/5): I would recommend if you just need a place for a one night stay. Good value for what you get. - The room was clean. Seemed to have new bedding. It had a musty smell. It just needed to be aired out.
- Diane (8/5): - Like a nice homey atmosphere. Did not interact with staff.
- Lindzy (10/5): - I'm so excited we chose to stay here. Not only was the price point solid, but the quality of our stay was wonderful and left us well rested. The bed was super comfortable, showers were hot with great water pressure, it was quiet early in the night even with it on a main road, clean and well cared for, and the location was perfect for getting around. We even ran late and the front desk had a plan in case we missed them to check in. Will absolutely stay again.
- jesus (10/5): - This place was so cute! The rooms are very clean and look like little theme rooms. This is definitely somewhere we can see ourselves coming to again. And it’s very close to everything you would want and need to do! The owners are very sweet!! Definitely a new staple stop
- Katelyn (10/5): - The owner was super helpful with our late check-in. It is close to town and very reasonably priced! Cable TV in the room, with a small bathroom/shower. A/c in the room and a comfortable bed!
- george (6/5): - Office couldn't get the internet functioning.Apparently their provider wasn't providing bandwidth.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfy diamond in the rough - The photos are accurate. This is an old school motel, but it has been given a quality facelift! Fresh paint and new, REALLY soft bedding made this stay great. Our first room had a bed that wouldn’t have been good for my husbands back. I reached out to the hotel and got a quick and kind callback and we were moved into a room with a bed that was a better fit. If I find myself back in cheboygan, I’ll happily stay at the monarch again!
- Steven (10/5): - This motel is a great little nook for an on the go stop! It is clean and quiet and comfortable. Very inexpensive, but worth every penny.
- Doug (10/5): - Clean. Comfy bed. Friendly owner Everything great
- YellowTriker (8/5): Great locally owned stay!! - We were in a motorcycle trip and enjoyed a well maintained and furnished room. Everything was in great shape, hot water, and while the AC was in the bathroom (where the window was) she (Linda the owner) had supplied a fan which worked great - even better than a ceiling fan!
We really enjoyed having a cup of coffee in a real mug vs a paper cup.
We like staying in non-major-chain places and this will be on our list.
- James (8/5): - Nice.
- Aldema (10/5): - Very clean. Host was pleasant.
- William (10/5): - I won’t kid you, the Monarch is not a four star hotel. But it doesn’t try to be. It is an older motel on the outskirts of downtown Cheboygan that in some places is showing its age. But it was exactly what we were looking for. It was neat, clean, quiet and the price was right. We chose it because it was close to North Central State Trail for cycling and the trail was right around the corner. The fun part was that when you arrive you do not meet any staff. There is a note on the office door telling you what unit is yours and the key is in your door. You leave the key in the door when you leave after your stay. A great time. Would stay at the Monarch again.
- Ronald (10/5): - Simply an exquisite stay. The owner/manager was amazing to work with and our room was exceptional and the cleanliness was second to none!
- Cynthia (10/5): - Reasonably priced, clean two bedroom suite with fridge and microwave.
- Helen (10/5): - Very friendly owner, nice well kept motel. Would stay here again!
- Bonnie (6/5): - Ants in the bathroom
- Jan (10/5): - The owner was super friendly and helpful, providing lots of local information and suggestions of places to see and enjoy. Would highly recommend!
- Mary (8/5): - Very charming motel. Room was decorated cute, very clean. Rustic, but quaint. My kids loved that there was separate bedroom for them.
The traffic is audible, as motel is right on the main road; there is a fan in the room to drown out the noise.
Would stay here again!
- Charles B. (10/5): - The staff worked smoothly with us, allowing us to check in even when we showed up almost an hour after our expected arrival time. Very professional and helpful.
- Sheila (8/5): - The parking was cramped at the room where we were but we have a pickup truck so that's the issue there. The hosts were very congenial and knowledgeable. Recommended several options for breakfast. Close to the park on the lake where we go to watch for freighters and eat our supper.
- John (10/5): Cozy and safe place to stay. - Owners are super nice and accommodating. Steered us to a great lace for supper. For the cost and this are, a real gem.
- Corinne (8/5): Cute cozy cottage - Cute renovated cottage/motel. However, the mattress was not comfortable at all and is overdue for an upgrade. The receptionist/owner was very pleasant.
- Margie (10/5): The owner was so friendly and nice! - It was a very quaint little place
- Bridget (8/5): Mid-week stay, summer vacay - The Monarch was just what I was looking for. The room was cozy, the bed was comfortable, the location was a close drive to downtown Cheboygan and the waterfront, and the AC kept me cool in the middle of a heat wave. Especially appreciated was Linda's kind customer service. I will plan to book the Monarch again on my next Cheboygan visit.
- Mawada (10/5): - Linda is super nice, room is clean& quite.
- Alecia (10/5): - Nice, clean room. Overall we were very happy with it.
Pros: Price, A/C, Fridge, clean, quiet, nice location, bed was pretty comfortable, nicely decorated, easy check in and out.
Cons: toilet was small, shower in the room we had could use an update but it was very clean, I wish the wifi password was posted in the room.
- Brian (10/5): - The owner/mgr Linda is absolutely AMAZING!!! My wife, our son, and I am so greatful for the peacefulness, safety, cleanliness and her undying care and concern for her clients. Linda is wonderful. The place is great. Family friendly. Near the beach. Near a wonderful restaurant. I highly recommended staying at this motel. And i suggest booking directly thru the Monach vs booking thru a 3rd party. It will be cheaper and Linda will work with Vets. Thankyou so much, Linda. We will def be returning!!!
- Harry (10/5): - Very nice, very clean, comfortable. Very friendly
- Luke (10/5): - Very friendly over the phone and very flexible check in and check out times. Fairly priced and very clean. will be staying here again
- Carol (6/5): - Linda, the owner was very nice. The rooms were very small and not as nice as the pictures on line showed
- Dorothy (10/5): - Super clean, comfy room. Linda, in the office, was so friendly and kind!
- Steven (6/5): - Wi-Fi did not work. Otherwise suited my needs.
- Brent A (10/5): - This is a small, family run motel. Always clean and tidy.
Rooms are very small, and it is older. Great place to stay for a short visit.
- Andrew (10/5): - Everything was great except the hot water was not quite hot enough.
- Jade (10/5): - The room was lovely and the staff was amazing. Will be staying there again in the future.
- L5973GXsharonh (10/5): Gem of a motel - Found this gem on Google maps. Google has a bunch of great reviews so I was glad that the motel lived up to the reviews. Friendly staff, renovated rooms, great decor, very clean. We did a King bed room which wasn't huge but enough space for just a weekend getaway. I would definitely stay again if in the area.
- retiredngoing (10/5): Clean rooms, friendly - Needing a room for overnight, we selected the Monarch Hotel for convenience to nearby friends. Check in was super easy. Room is small but comfortable, clean but without closets. Cute decor, includes tv, microwave, coffee pot, heat and air. Located on a busy street, trucks can be loud. We would stay at Monarch again for convenience and price.
- meechigander (10/5): Clean, friendly, inexpensive. - Right on the road to Mackinaw & close to the shores of Lake Huron, this little gem is affordable & comfortable. There is occasional light truck traffic but using the a/c or fan for 'white noise' you barely notice it. The owners are friendly and can steer you to where the locals eat and area activities. Our room had amenities such as cable tv, coffeemaker, microwave. etc.
- Roger (6/5): - The mattresses were old and very soft. Anytime I moved in bed, the bed posts banged against the wall. I felt bad for the occupants next door. The rooms had a smell to them. There was also a dog staying in one of the rooms that I assumed was used by the owner's family and the dog would bark a lot. There was dog poop on the parking lot that I almost stepped in.
- Linda (10/5): - Loved it
- Mary (10/5): Pleasant stay, will be staying there again. - Clean and very pleasant owner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our room was cute and clean. The beds were split into two bedrooms which was awesome, and instead of just one chair outside there were two chairs and a table. It all made for a pleasant stay. The bed was comfortable too.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was nice
The parking was convenient.
- alton (6/5): Ok - We spent two nights. Motel was ok but for the price we expected maid service the second day and the WiFi was unusable. Owner was friendly and seemed very nice.
- B (8/5): - The WiFi didn’t work and the foot of the bed stuck up!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I would highly recommend avoiding this motel at all costs but before I get to the bad let me say I gave the motel an extra star because the lady that worked the front desk (and her cats) was extremely friendly throughout my entire stay. You will find this motel at a price point of $75-$86 which is WAY too high for what you get. I completely understand this is a motel in Northern Michigan but realistically this should be closer to $45/night.
The Monarch website claims to have updated rooms which is completely incorrect. The room I had was extremely old and musty. The updates were a half-hearted paint job and some wall decorations from Home Goods. The A/C unit for the entire room was a very old window unit with a car air freshener attached to it. It did not cool the room at all since it was in the bathroom. My mini-fridge that was promised on the website did not close and did not stay cold enough.
All rooms were claimed to be non-smoking yet the room (or the room next-door) had an overwhelming odor of smoke. But by far the worst thing that this room had to offer was the bed. I would say that the bed felt similar to laying on plywood propped up by concrete blocks. I have never in my life woke up with as much back and neck pain as I did from sleeping on that bed; I think I should have slept on the floor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This was perfect for us. The WiFi was very weak.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely locally owned motel. Cute location. Friendly and helpful owner.
- 12claudiax (10/5): best motel ever! - I am so happy I found this place! Monarch is the best motel I ever stayed in, a unique place with immaculate rooms and excellent hospitality! Linda is very warmly welcoming, helpful, friendly and generous with her time and advice. All respect for her who does a great job and she also has the best rates. This place really felt like home to me. I would totally recommend it!
