Guest Reviews
- Helen (7/5): - Bed very uncomfortable. Very noisy doors slamming in the night
- Richard (6/5): - Near town centre The price compared to The Punch House and Wetherspoons.
- margaret (8/5): Friendly staff room clean good location - Close to Monmouth centre Traffic noise
- Nicki (8/5): Staff were very helpful. Room spacious and breakfast well cooked Thank you - Staff were lovely. Pleasant spacious room. Very good breakfast. Convenient to the town centre and Well done for fighting back do admirably following the flood.
- stephen (8/5): Nice place. Staff fantastic. - Great location as a base to explore the area. Considering the problems caused by the flooding last November I think the owners have done remarkably well and are still battling to get everything in order. Deserves supporting. All good
- Bevin (8/5): -
- Olga (10/5): Convenient stay in the way to Cardif - Free, easy parking.
All doors are kept locked, which makes you feel safe
- Jones (8/5): Great value and friendly - Staff were really helpful and friendly - thanks Matt and Sally! Room was fairly basic but good value for money, comfy bed and decent shower. The room was very light, blackout curtains s would be a great touch! Also better filter coffee at breakfast (which was otherwise very good)
- Hall (5/5): Didn't meet expectations for the advertised room - The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean with coffee facilities. Clean towels and bedding.
I hope the support from the party guests help get them back on their feet after the flood, but wasn't worth the price paid for the room The room smelled musty. With old fashioned single glazing on windows, making it noisy by the road. The bathroom had a mouldy smell and was grubby around the window seals. The toilet seat was broken also.
No food or breakfast available.
Was not good value for the price paid.
- Amanda (5/5): Convenient and friendly staff - The staff were friendly and helpful Shower was old with signs of mould. Property in need of updating although aware of recovering from flood
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Darren (7/5): - Excellent location đ Can't really make a judgement because restaurant and bar was still being refurbished after the horrendous floods they had..
Looking forward to going back and seeing it at its best đ
- Elaine (8/5): -
- Evelyn Julie (6/5): Convenient stop over, pity restaurant wasnât open yet. - Close to Monmouth town centre. Convenient stop on our journey. Close to Waitrose and town high street for breakfast! The hotel was slowly recovering from recent flooding and was unable to offer breakfast- we were only notified during the week before our stay. Too close to main road, noisy with window open.
- wendy (1/5): The Riverside hotel monmouth - The Riverside Hotel is a workman's hotel stay, very worn, run down carpets, dirty smell from carpeted areas, marks on walls in room and community areas, furniture in room very dated and worn. The bed very uncomfortable, you could feel the springs. Tea, coffee facilities provided, but milk left in direct sunlight. Stained carpet in bedroom, plus it smelt old, damp and not cleaned. No kitchen facilities so no breakfast available although this was informed to myself before my stay, there is signs of redecorating so fumes smell from the paint, not good if you have a lung condition. also lots of stairs to get to your room with no other way of access. Unfortunately I could not stay at this property due to the air pollution from the paint and would not recommend staying at this hotel in its present condition
- Agnes (9/5): Fabulous - The manager was very helpful and personable, a genuinly nice person which made us feel very welcome
- Peter (9/5): Great location and a real bargain at the price. - It was in a great location, extreme close to the centre of town. On site parking and great value.
- Chris (10/5): Great value for money, excellent location and lovely staff all you could want from a hotel. - Great location, lovely staff and exceptional value All was good nothing to complain about
- Claire (7/5): - Central location & friendly helpful staff
- Pauline (10/5): 2 night break - Location, cleanliness of room, spacious room and lovely friendly staff. Join in bed where 2 mattresses were connected.
- philip (6/5): - Room a good size Mattress weren't the most comfertable
- Susan (10/5): Loved every minute of it - The staff were so welcoming and friendly, loved that it is a couple of minutes walk from town centre Rooms need more plug sockets and in need of updating
- KELLY (9/5): Fantastic stay at Riverside - Location is fantastic. Free parking. Friendly staff. Tea and coffee facilities. Hairdryer. Plenty of drawers for storage.
- Richard (8/5): -
- Helen (7/5): Nice hotel accommodation close to town - The location was good - just a short walk to the centre. The rooms were adequate and the couches downstairs enabled some of us in different rooms to socialise. The manager was happy to keep some food, milk and wine chilled for us and provide bowls & cutlery. There was a large carpark at back. The restaurant and bar were closed for repairs following last yearâs floods. They were closed when we booked but we werenât notified until about 2 weeks before we arrived.
There was some construction noise.
- Mark (7/5): - Convenient location for town centre, shops and restaurants.
- Darren (4/5): -
- nigel (10/5): -
- Rhys (10/5): -
- poppit (9/5): Great location and friendly staff - The staff were friendly and the location was great, all in all a nice little hotel. I will look forward to visiting in the future when the restaurant is up and running again There is nothing I didnât like, just no food available at the moment due to the hotel being flooded out in November. Appreciate that canât be helped
- Sally (8/5): Comfortable, budget hotel in a great location for exploring Monmouth and the wider area. - Excellent location, friendly staff, great value for money.
Despite the hotel being unable to offer a breakfast service, due to the recent flooding in Monmouth, our stay was comfortable. I look forward to staying again when I can enjoy their lovely breakfast again.
- Susan (6/5): Rather disappointing for the money. - Easy walking access to town centre.
Comfortable beds (although poorly made)
Good tv The shower was not usable due to extremely poor water flow.
Some areas were not as clean as they could have been. The drain hole in the shower had not been cleaned for a very long time and gave out a strong mouldy smell.
- paul (4/5): -
- harold (5/5): -
- Jayne (5/5): Location good but would not stay again. - Proximity to town was great. Free parking. The guy who checked us in was helpful in proving extra tea/coffee/milk for the room. Website for hotel said there was a resident's bar - this was not available. No food or drinks available at all with the exception of tea/coffee facilities in the room. We had twin room which was a good size but beds not very comfortable. Hairs in the bath tub. Room rather shabby. No double glazing - room was at front of hotel on busy road so quite noisy.
- Cecile (5/5): - Nice central location Very thin wall and a bit outdated, and no breakfast
- George (1/5): - It add a car park Very noisy in the room no bar or nothing to eat no breakfast very uncomfortable beds very noisy rooms very small guests were noisy
- Justin (7/5): -
- Rhea (9/5): - Friendly welcome, sorry I didn't hear the bit about where the back door was and I disturbed one of them.
Room has a bath which is automatically amazing. It was unfortunate the restaurant was closed but completely understandable.
- Graeme (4/5): -
- Simon (8/5): -
- Gwyn (7/5): -
- Christine (8/5): - Great location close to centre of town and very close to the official Offa's Dyke Path through Monmouth.
- stephen (8/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): Wouid be happy to stay again - Warm comfortable accessible. Staff working tirelessly to get restaurant back on its feet after awful exceptional floods
- Wendy (8/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): - Staff were exceptional
- Toni (6/5): - Very convenient location as we were going to the theatre in Monmouth. Car parking was also a plus point. The bedroom was comfortable but quite dated and there was only one bedside light. Nothing specific.
- david (8/5): A nice place to stay - The location to the centre of town and the helpfulness of the staff after i requested an extension of one night. they were more than helpful. Not exactly did not like, but it was a shame they are still undergoing repairs after the flood, so no resteraunt or bar as of yet.
- DOROTHY (9/5): Good location and comfy bed. Will be brilliant when refurbish is complete. - Although this hotel was still recovering from flood damage everywhere smelt lovely and you could see how much effort was being made. My bedroom was good just needed better bedside lighting. The location was lovely đ Just the bedside lighting.
- Andrea (8/5): Stay was nice and chilled - The hotel was undergoing a flood that recently happened
The property was at great location for us
- Aldorey (7/5): -
- Mike (7/5): -
- Hamley (5/5): Budget room at ok price...bed was comfy and clean...towels good for after showers... - Breakfast not available due to works on the building after flooding....we were informed prior to our visit Black our curtains as the blind let in light at the sides...also needs curtains as room windows are overlooked by other rooms
- Jantzen (8/5): -
- steve (5/5): - Friendly staff The hotel was not in the best condition. Hard to complain too much as it has previously experienced flood damage.
- Paula (7/5): -
- Ashley (1/5): - Booked the hotel, was told 3 days after the booking that the bar was closed and no breakfast. Asked for refund, but was refused. I needed to stay somewhere with breakfast as my son is a fussy eater and he needed a good breakfast as he had a race early in the morning and wouldn't have been able to get him any food as everywhere was closed.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Ian (9/5): Enjoyedit - Great location great staff car charger. Bar and restaurant under refurbishment due to flood damage. It couldn't be helped and we knew this before we booked. Not a showstopper.
- Rachel (8/5): Very comfortable rooms and free parking. Lovely town. - We booked with friends to stay for a comedy gig at the Savoy theatre. The hotel is at the bottom of the high street and perfect for this with free parking.
The kitchen will be reopened very soon and the breakfast is great here. Matt adjusted our prices and recommended places for breakfast. Unfortunately the floods in Monmouth a couple of months ago are still impacting businesses. Matt the manager and his team are doing everything possible to get the kitchen and bar reopened. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks and we will be back. The breakfast was great on our last stay !
- stephen (8/5): Nice place - Clean, quiet and comfy!!
Great location and once the refurbishment has been finished it will be even better. I'd definitely stay again.
- Sarah (7/5): Very good. - Great location, good value price. Staff extremely friendly and helpful, e.g., facilitated car charging despite their chatger being out of action, due to January floods. Generally seedy and run down (although clean and all necessary facilities were present), no restaurant etc (due to flooding two months ago).
- Roderick (10/5): Great stay and location. - Clean and tidy ,staff were lovely and a great location for the town. Nothing all good.
- Arthur (9/5): A great place to stay & see Monmouth! - Position of hotel in centre town but ok re traffic & parking.
Staff great considering still recovering from recent flooding!!! Nothing
.Town close for a great range of eateries!
- barry (8/5): good car park - location
- Andrew (8/5): - Staff were very helpful. Room was comfortable.
- Sharon (7/5): OK for couple of nights - Unfortunately hotel is still getting back on its feet after flooding end of 2025 so bar and restaurant out of service. Room quite basic but clean. Ideal location for town centre. Staff very friendly
- Itsre (9/5): Excellent staffs and owners. Best service allowed late check in. - Good locations and convenient parking spots Non
- mmb1977 (8/5): -
- Rumbold (10/5): -
- timms (3/5): - Bathroom. No hot water for the shower.
- Jessica (1/5): Disappointed & misleading - The location was close to the town centre.
Parking was free We werenât aware that it had been flooded and there was no restaurant or bar area. If we were made aware of this at the time of booking then I would not of booked here. It was a builders sight downstairs.
The hotel was extremely dated and needs a huge refurbishment.
The room wasnât clean, specifically the bathroom. Lots of dirty marks and dust in there.
Went to have a cup of tea however the mugs in the room were also dirty so didnât bother.
It was very noisy outside with motorbikers in the car park at 7am so couldnât sleep past that.
Definitely would not return.
The staff were polite.
- Karen (4/5): It was very unfortunate that there had been flooding to the property due to a recent storm, but I donât think it would h - It was close to the town Only location
- Emily (7/5): Overall it was a good stay for one night. Comfortable room, beds and good drinks makin facilities. - It was easy to find, parking was great, the room was comfortable, friendly welcome by the staff. Allowed us to check in a bit earlier. Good updates on situation following the flooding so we could plan breakfast etc, bring drinks. Good tea, coffee facilities. Was a nice stay for one night. The room/bathroom could have been cleaner. Dust and tea drop stains in places. Kettle was very old and grimey, broken filter. Picture hooks on walls but no pictures, would make the room more comfortable/homely with some pictures. Could only find one socket point which made it difficult to use electrical items when needed.
Unfortunate about having no bar/restaurant available but understand this is due to recent flooding.
- catherine (10/5): Lovely location, clean rooms. Although under renovation, it did not affect our stay - Although downstairs was under renovation, the room was clean and spacious
- Irina (7/5): - Clean warm good location Water damage after the flood
- KELLY (9/5): Fantastic - Great value for money, location is fantastic. Room was lovely and clean Heard a tapping noise throughout the night, probably pipes or everything cooling down
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Paul (9/5): Another pleasant visit to. Monmouth - Very friendly staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Bar and kitchen was closed due to recent flooding, but plenty of options locally. Everything was just fine.
- James (6/5): Helpful and friendly staff and well priced - Close to town and onsite parking Burnt fingers on the hot tap, no handle to shut window in room 12 and no spoons. Had to use a bic pen.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Matt (4/5): Overall we were dissapointed with our stay, as for ÂŁ100 a night it wasn't worth the price. - Staff were lovely and the location was great. The room was older than shown on pictures and not up to standard described.
The 'double bed' was in fact 2 single beds pushed together, with one mattress significantly damaged on one side leading to a wonky nights sleep.
There were holes in pillowcases and blood stains on the bedding.
- Ralph (5/5): - Location, parking Late night Street noise
- Rachel (6/5): Handy location - Location is excellent - super access to the centre of Monmouth. Beds were comfortable with clean linen and plentiful towels. Kettle and drinks resources available n rooms which was very welcome. Staff were friendly and made us welcome. The interior of the hotel is now looking tired - everything worked and was comfortable but hallway carpets are worn. Being close to the main road makes it very accessible and easy to locate but in summer with windows open, it was noisy.
- Peter (6/5): Good value , adequate . Great staff - Location by the river and old bridge . Walk into Monmouth town great , walk along the river , past the allotments also good Outdated , needs refurbishing, room 10 didnât have the facility to fix the door open on the catch lock .
Traffic noise
- David (10/5): Fantastic the staff are very helpful -
- David & Karren (6/5): Wales is nice, better to be in a premier inn - Its location and the breakfast was ok Not clean, very basic, needs updating
- Trevor (8/5): -
- Robert (1/5): Very uncomfortable bed , bathroom seen better days , floor VERY uneven - Breakfast very good Room
In a timewarp (1970âs)
- Steve (9/5): Great for a quick stop off with easy parking. very short work to town centre. -
- Anthony (5/5): Wonât stay again - Staff were friendly, free onsite parking, excellent location. Furniture dated, beds too soft ( nearly rolled out of bed on several occasions during the night) extension lead trailing across room for tv, had to unplug tv to use kettle. Cobwebs above bed, build up of dirt on floor behind bathroom door, long black hairs on bathroom floor ( I am bald) so definitely not mine! Strange smell emanating from bathroom, similar to part digested cabbage and Brussels all night, again not me! had to get up and open window( which the catch was broken)
- Michelle (10/5): - Fanastic freshly cooked breakfast
- Beverley (10/5): -
- JR (8/5): - Breakfast was good; staff was nice; convenient walk to bus station and town. Noise from the pub patrons (or people on the street).
- THOMAS (8/5): For the price, nothing to criticise. - Comprehensive breakfast selection with generous servings, well cooked, and pleasantly served in a lovely airy and light dining room. Comfy beds, handy private parking, and only a couple of minutes walk from the Monnow Bridge and the oldie worldie shops. All good.
- Geddes (1/5): DUE TO FLOODING I DIDN'T STAY. I STAYED AT 'SISTER' HOTEL BEAUFORT AND IT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING. -
- Christine (7/5): -
- Clive (7/5): To be fair I only had one night stay but found it a good place to stay and see Monmouth - Good bar facilities
Good English breakfast Parking is a bit on the tight side
- Marcus (8/5): Short overnight stay - Basic but clean and served itâs purpose, free onsite parking Car park was a bit tight
