Guest Reviews
- Jolien (9/5): Top! - Gastvrouw Amaya was top!
- Tomaž (9/5): - The accommodation is in a very quiet and pleasant environment. The French host Amaya is very friendly and helpful. Always available for useful information. She even adapts to breakfast and serves it earlier if you need it.
- Eva (10/5): -
RAS
- Anne-Sophie (9/5): Little paradise tucked away from the paradise - We had a wonderful stay at Maya Eco Village. The property is full of charm — a little paradise tucked away from the main road. Our host was incredibly kind and helpful, and you definitely shouldn’t miss her delicious margaritas — they’re an absolute treat! The bed was also very comfortable, making our stay even more relaxing.
- Mariangela (8/5): Very good - The host was really nice and helpful. On my daughter's birthday, she decorated the room and prepared a special breakfast for her.
No moskitos despite been in the middle of the jungle.
Beds were comfortable. The room was not cleaned properly and there is no daily room service.
Several items needing repair in the room (shower door, entrance door).
Breakfast is very simple and not sufficient.
WiFi was down during our stay. It was due to a storm which happened a few days before, but be aware that wifi may not be guaranteed.
The road to get to the B&B is very bumpy. Be aware that you will need a car to get around the hotel.
There is a fridge, but no stoves nor kitchen utensils.
Be aware that breakfast is first served at 8.30 am
- Donald (10/5): - This place was sublime - beautiful garden and natural pool, roomy huts with screened porches, lovely helpful owner, just a few kilometers from Akumel beach and 30 km from Tulum ruins in a quiet, out of the way location. I’m sorry I was only staying one night.
- Kasper (7/5): Good - A nice pool and a quiet beautiful atmosphere to stay in, simple but good breakfast. Animals in the garden, owner gave helpful pointers towards things to explore in the area. Cleanliness could definitely be massively improved both in the common areas and in the room. There's no bar and the restaurant is only open on reservation (not a big deal but unexpected).
- Martin (10/5): - What a gem! A beautiful little piece of paradise hidden in the jungle. The owner is super kind and accommodating and we loved everything about our stay.
- Manuel (10/5): Exceptional - A place in Paradise! We will come back.
- Luka (10/5): Would return any day - We had a lovely two-day stay at Amaya's place and can recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone planning a visit to Yucatan. N/A
- 306achimk (10/5): A beautiful paradise - The Maya Eco Village, is a fantastic place to stay. It's tidy and clean. Our towels and bins were replaced fresh EVERY DAY. Plus water is given every day. You can relax and want for nothing.
You can absorb yourself in authentic jungle life. The Village gives an overwhelming vibe of peace, healing and nevertheless activities if one wishes. We found it perfect and Amaya, our hostess, is the most accommodating and kind person. Thank you Amaya 😊, you're the best.
- Ida (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely and peaceful.
- Lisa (10/5): - This small, woman owned, bed and breakfast is exactly what you hope for. The hostess is an amazing woman who invites everyone into Mexico with open arms and a smile before you even arrive with helpful information to get to the property and for once you’ve arrived. Each private bungalow has its own special charm surrounded by the beautiful jungle where you can see and hear the native wildlife. We were pleasantly surprised by the lack of bugs on the property (it is the jungle after all!) and that the wildlife seemed to sleep at night and quieted down. The hot, homemade breakfast served each morning was delicious. The hostess will provide you recommendations for activities and places to eat from the free cenotes to amazing restaurants and little villages to visit. If you prefer to stay on property, the brand new pool is beautiful and immaculately clean. Highly recommend this place!
- Balcanu (1/5): Shitty accomodation for a lot of money - The pool looked nice but had no courage to swim in it We booked this place for two nights and we payed 270$ US.
We arrived late in the evening. When we got there, we discovered that there is no wi-fi available in the rooms.
I went to ask Amaya the property owner about this and she said that there is plenty of internet but only on the pool side. I told her that I had to work in the morning and she just became aggressive. I told her that in these conditions plus the fact that the toilet was super dirty with rust and mold everywhere, and the room itself wasn't clean, the bedsheets were stained, we want to leave in the morning and we want our money back for one night. She became even more aggressive with us and told us that she won't refound anything. We left anyway because we couldn't stay in those conditions.
I don't understand how people gave this place score 9, when is maximum score 6! All rooms are like the one we had (no.7).
Furthermore, the road till this place is unpaved and very bumpy. Without a car one cannot pass.
I read recessions on Google map about this place, that some people got robbed from their rooms, so beware.
- Istvan (10/5): - Beautiful garden with special ambiance and attention from Amaya, the host.
- Antje (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was great! We did need glutenfree breakfast and got a nice version. Thanks.
- V411BMdavidh (10/5): highly recommend - this is the 2nd place we visited in the country and we really loved it so much , the bangalows was perfect and spacious also close to the beach and the swimming pool was amazingly perfect , the food was on the top we loved it so much , thank you once again and we highy recommend
- Alison (8/5): Lovely place with welcoming attentive staff. The swimming pool was great! - Lovely grounds, friendly staff great swimming pool. Very little WiFi
- C6350BFelsal (10/5): Great peaceful place to stay - We have very much enjoyed our stay at the Maya Eco Village. Away from the road and its big resorts, it was the perfect place to stop before our flight. The garden is beautiful, the birds are singing, it is a very peaceful atmosphere. The host is very welcoming and the lodges are nice. Truly recommend!
- Hailey (8/5): Very good - Beautiful very well designed garden making you feel you are alone in a jungle paradise, very nice early in the morning with the sun coming off the trees and sounds of birds.
Very nice touches with good lighting and seating area about the property and swing seat in the room.
Very welcoming host and helpful with the travel cot for baby. Staff seemed friendly.
The pool was so nice and relaxing
It is possible to have dinner at the property for an extra cost, and the dinner was very tasty, unfortunately the host wasn't available for our whole stay but recommended areas to eat in the evening. The breakfast was quite small
The road to the property was bumpy and unpaved, although that is to be expected as it is quite off grid
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - The proprietor was very welcoming.
- Boribora (9/5): Meet my expectation - delicious breakfast, friendly staff, spacious room Bathroom is a little bit old
- Briantravels60 (9/5): Gem in the jungle. - The owner was very friendly and helpful. The facility is clean and simple but very pleasant and welcoming. It is gated and very safe. The bed was comfortable and ac was great. Breakfast was wonderful with fresh fruit, yogurt and eggs. I would stay here again!
- Eick (10/5): Exceptional - We had an absolutely beautiful time. The host (owner) was EXCEPTIONAL. The property is absolutely STUNNING. I left my luggage in the USA and she was so helpful getting me a few items before I could go shopping. We plan to stay here yearly!
- 87celesten (6/5): Great property - I contacted owner via WhatsApp due to a last minute booking we were headed over from Tulum and planned to stop in Akumal for the beach. Over the phone she mentioned she would provide me with a 30% discount $130 no breakfast included mentioned the beach was not far also that she would have someone give us a ride to the beach at no cost. She arrived at 4pm and mentioned the beach was a ways from the property and it was $400 pesos (about $20 usd ) each way. 🤦🏻♀️ we also asked to pay with card but she insisted cash however we finally were able to pay pal her via “family and friends” we paid extra because there was still a fee she did not want to pay .. she also said if we pay a little additional she would provide pesos we needed for cabs/transfers which helped us out a bit… from there she mentioned dinner would be provided for extra and margaritas at i believe it was 400/500 pesos a person. We took that as drinks included … my husband and I ordered 2 drinks each (4 margaritas total) kids each had a soda. At the end she wrote us a bill and we informed her we were under the impression that this included drinks… would of been nice to know as the food was good /dessert okay but price point just didn’t match in opinion. She said “it’s just like anywhere else you order drinks you pay for them.” Would of been nice to apologize for the miscommunication maybe? She ended up comping 2 drinks and we paid via PayPal again $135 🤦🏻♀️ .
We also purchased a sparkling water earlier in the day which was completely flat and open… the following morning we went to purchase a water and realized again it was OPEN not sealed. I take it as their refilling and selling these … something about this place just didn’t sit right me. Although she came off nice something about this place just felt off and made us uncomfortable. Despite all of the above this is a nice secluded property and kids were able to see monkeys! BUT you will not be close to a beach and drive down long dirt roads to get there. Would I return probably not…
- Michał (10/5): A very pleasant place. Bungalows surrounded by tropical forest, birds singing, complete relaxation. In addition, lovely -
- Cosmopolitan46079 (10/5): Excellent stay and great hospitality - Amaya’s place is a beautiful place to stay away from the crowd, and still be close to some of the main attractions on the Mayan coast.
We had a lovely stay. Unfortunately our son got Dengue and had to be in bed for 3 days. Amaya has done an amazing job of supporting us, from the visit to the local doctor to preparing an evening meal for the family.
- Isabelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandre (10/5): Exceptional - Super host Maya has created a very nice village!
The garden is gorgeous
great place!
- Andrew (8/5): comfortable and lush by the pool in the lovely gardens - pool and garden and the owner/staff room was ok rather than special
- Julian (10/5): Exceptional - We enjoyed our 2-night stay with our two children a lot. Rooms are very comfortable and the whole place is absolutey beautiful surrounded by the jungle. Our highlight was definitely the hospitality of Amaya. She was even preparing a small breakfast because we needed to leave erlier this day to go to a Theme park nearby. Amaya is really taking care about her guests which we finally also saw when we asked to check the air Conditioning. On the next day the AC was already professionally checked by a technician. We can highly recommend this place which was actually a little oasis within the jungle for us
! Nothing at all!
- Nevenka (10/5): Exceptional - An oasis in the tamed jungle, secluded and safe, but authentically rustic, with a beautiful pool surrounded by trees and plants in bloom.
Amaya, the French owner, is delighful. She accomodated us for dinner on a short notice the day we arrived, gave us great advice on where to go and snorkle and eat. Our “hut” had palapa roof, was very spacious, and an enclosed porch with a hamock, the bed was king size and comfortable, there was a kitchenette and a fridge, ceiling fans and A/C which we didn’t need to use. All windows have mosquito nets, so we slept undistrubed by the buzzing ! It was quiet and pleasant, the only regret is we didn’t stay longer !
We rented a car, and the access road was full of big holes, so drive carefully ! But parking was safe and inside the gates. The place had a good vibe, and we had lovely conversations and exchange of information with other guests.
The price was reasonable and I highly recommend staying at Maya Eco village, looking forward to returning !
- Alex (4/5): Disappointing -
- David (10/5): Beautiful location and lodging, great food and wonderful host! - Maya Eco Village is located just a short distance from the highway, but it feels like a different world: an oasis of quiet and peace. Amaya, our host, from the moment we passed through the gates made us feel welcome and comfortable, which she describes as the real reason she does what she does: making her guests feel at home and able to enjoy the tranquility that Maya Eco Village offers. An inviting pool is surrounded by six clean and comfortable bungalows, ours at the end of the pool surrounded by flowering bougainvilleas. Amaya and her staff were always there to assist and Amaya took special care to ensure that our stay in the Akumal area was as complete and enjoyable as possible, from assisting our early departure one morning for the Coba ruins to providing us with cenote recommendations the next. Breakfasts were delicious, but perhaps one of the highpoints were the splendid dinners Amaya offered every evening for a modest price, a home cooked blend of Mexican, Mayan and French elements. These were events not to be missed! We truly hope to be able to get back here again to spend more time with Amaya and share in her friendship and caring. Nothing. The road in is a little rough, but well worth the effort!
- Philippa (6/5): Beauriful and friendly but beware of extra charges - The room was big and clean. The pool and surrounding grounds was gorgeous and so quiet , nestled deep in nature. There were humming birds, huge lizards, so many different kinds of butterflies and birds. The owner was kind and flexible with our check in time. She was friendly and welcoming. We appreciated there was laundry facilities. We only stayed one night as we had a retreat to attend next door, which is why the location was good for us, otherwise it was quite far into the jungle away from the ocean. We were provided with two of the smallest bottles of water in the room and were told that further drinking water came at an extra cost and the tap water there was not potable. Breakfast was included but was basic- the smallest bowl of yoghurt with granola, one slice of dry toast, scrambled eggs and a hot drink. No juice, butter or any frills. We had a kitchenette but there was no trash bin and the fridge was not plugged in, so even if we had wanted to keep out of own food, it would not have been possible. No soap or shampoo in the shower and we had to pay 500 pesos to check out only 3 hours later. We were quoted 250 pesos for laundry and told it would be taken to us next door once dry. When paying however, an extra 100 pesos was added for this without warning which I had to query and agreed we’d collect instead. Overall, for only one night it felt like there was just extra charges for everything which altered our perception of a lovely place.
- Martyn (10/5): Fantastic! - Perfect place. Beautiful surroundings,.very quiet. Host was amazing with recommending places to visit, very helpful, good food both breakfast and dinner. Parking onsite. Cool wildlife, we saw monkeys and a fantastic spider!
- Cherie (9/5): Very Nice - Quite, simple, and peaceful. Need hammock chair in porch.
- Danny (8/5): Nice cabanas - B&B style accommodation located in the jungle, with a lush garden. Cabanas were nice and comfortable and clean. Amaya is very nice and welcoming. Set us up with a guide for turtle snorkeling, which was an amazing trip. Set against our entire 3-week Mexico trip it is a bit overpriced (both the accommodation and the drinks at the bar) but for Akumal standards probably ok.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best place to start the New Year! - We had a really lovely stay at Maya Eco Village over New Years. The gardens and surrounds are just so beautiful and peaceful, and each bungalow is a little oasis within the property. We had a little 'porch' that we could sit at in the evenings and listen to the sounds of the jungle, or read at in the mornings. There aren't too many bungalows, so it was a very peaceful experience, with friendly people from all over the world staying. Amaya is a very friendly and accommodating host, and we wish we could have stayed a little longer in this paradise. Thank you so much for everything!
Macht hier richtig Urlaub Leute!
- Mo (10/5): - I booked this hotel as opposed to a hotel on the beach because the property looked very charming. It was! My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay. The grounds are lovely, the staff is very nice, the breakfast is great, and the room was wonderful. You need a car/scooter to access but could very well walk from a colectivo, just bring what you need. We will return :)
- carl (10/5): A lovely place off the beaten path. - this is an amazing place! very small - only 5 or 6 rooms, each separate. The road is dirt and rutted and it is farily hard to see the sign to get on the right road. And, it is not on the main drag for the beach. But, the beaches and the places to eat are within easy driving distance. There is no TV, and the amenities are minimal. Breakfast is pleasant and filling. The hosts work to make your stay nice.
Their English is minimal, but, they have a smart phone with a translation app that smooths out communication. But everything is quiet and clean and relaxing and save. We loved staying here. in the evening, there were monkeys and bats in the surrounding forest/ The hosts are eager to please. All in all, we loved this place. It was so nice to be off the beaten path in such pleasant surroundings. There was wifi, but, the signal was not too strong. And, one more thing. The mattress was the best mattress i have ever slept on. I wish i had remembered to look at the tag so that i could replace my current mattress.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is paradise. Absolutely, seclusion and beauty.
- Dre (10/5): - It's just great. Bungalows are awesome. Staff is very helpful.
- Cerstin (6/5): - The place it self is wonderful, but if you do not rent a car you are totally lost. The street is a off road with terrible conditions, specially after rain. We had hardly no internet connection , no TV or radio in the room and the lobby/ bar/ breakfast room was closed at night , because we where the only guests. T
The place it self is wonderful inmidst the jungle., but the hotel is run very unprofessional and we where the only guests and the bar/ reception/breakfast room was always closed at night. No or nearly no internet reception, so we could not use our tablets for films or music in the evening, we had no TV or Radio in the room. We had a rental car, otherwise you are totally lost it is about 2 miles of the carretera with very bad off road streets, actually I lost a rim of one tire not knowing which had cost me another $ 40.00 by returning the car.
Unfortunately we had a lot of rain and I tried to leave earlier to go towards Chizen, but they would not have refunded me so we stayed.
As I said the place itself is wonderful but they need to get more professional in all the service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location was great, very peaceful and secluded. Great place to stay if you want to feel like you're in nature.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed by Hotel moved to by Hotels.com - I was relocated to Eco Maya Village because the hotel I originally booked through Hotels.com (and had confirmed, so flights were booked) turned out to be "full". Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience. We turned up and were greeted, but nobody offered help with luggage, so my wife lugged bags while the man who greeted us looked on. We had Christmas dinner, which was hugely disappointing. My wife could not have a glass of wine unless she bought an entire bottle of a wine she had never heard of and could not taste first! I am a coffee person, and I have never had worse/weaker coffee than that served at breakfast. And there wasn't even real milk available. I had to use powdered creamer. For the price we paid per night, I would expect far more than this.
- Tina (2/5): - WE RESERVED FOUR ROOMS AT THIS PROPERTY. WE STARTED OFF WELL AND IN THE NIGHT WE REALIZED THAT THIEVES HAD ENTERED INTO OUR ROOMS AND ROBBED US OFF ALL OUR CASH, CAMERAS, WATCHES, FITBITS. THE OWNER TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET TO THE PROPERTY. HE WAS SOMEWHAT COOPERATIVE AND THE POLICE ARRIVED TOO. HOWEVER, WE DID NOT RECEIVE A POLICE REPORT AND NOW THE OWNER IS NOT ANSWERING HIS PHONE OR RESPONDING TO OUR NUMEROUS MESSAGES. WE SUSPECT THAT THE ROBBERY WAS AN INSIDE JOB. ADDITIONALLY, THE OWNER STATED THAT A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO, HOWEVER, NO PRECAUTIONS WERE TAKEN. THERE ARE NO CAMERAS, THE DOORS TO THE FIRST ENTRYWAY DO NOT LOCK WELL.
- Joan (10/5): - awesome. property and staff. I little confusion at check in but that is getting fixed.
- David (8/5): Near Tulum and near to Nature - The staff were very attentive, and pleasant, but didn't speak English. The facility is in the jungle, what I would call bohemian- a return to nature. No TV, but the creature comforts/necessities such as AC, and WIFI are there. They serve a complimentary breakfast with fruit and more each morning. Overall it was a neat experience.
- sidney (10/5): - Excellent will visit again
- Mitch (8/5): The staff speaks very little english but freindly - Expedia has this motel near the highway. It is not, it is 1-1/2 miles into the woods. Look for the sign right before Akumal.
