Guest Reviews
- Mickey (8/5): Stars - Star views Stairs and small room.
- Laura (6/5): - Quaint, kind of in the middle of nowhere, with friendly staff and a hike down to a beaver habitat. So noisy! The restaurant in the hotel closes at 8 but then the staff play music and bang things around for hours while they’re cleaning up. Everything guests say or do in the common areas could be heard in our room. It was not great for sleeping. The room was tiny - barely larger than the bed.
- Janet (10/5): A little slice of heaven. - Such a fun place to stay beautiful location, beautiful sunset restaurant on property was amazing. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
- Ryan (7/5): - Nice location The mattress is too soft, not as clean as expected. Entrance door window should have a cover/curtain.
- Dora (9/5): Great ranch with excellent restaurant there!! -
- nathalie (10/5): - Extraordinaire !
- John (10/5): - Staff went out of their way to help me with an unusual request. Also, restaurant was great !
- Claudine Malcolm (10/5): - Staff and everything about the yurt

- Julie (10/5): Brief stay between Bryce and Capital Reef parks. Gorgeous setting. - Spectacular setting. Cabin was comfortable with all necessary amenities.
- Leah (10/5): We were very pleased with this property, with it's beautiful location and friendly staff! - The location was perfect for our trip. Jared was very friendly and helpful. We weren't expecting any breakfast at all, but had a reasonable continental breakfast. Our room was a little noisy when others were in the common space, and had no view...but overall, we loved the place!
- Farnsworth (10/5): It was beautiful. - The view was beautiful. I could hear the kitchen well into the night and early the next morning.
- Sophie (10/5): Beautiful Getaway Cabin - Beautiful location, close to many trails. Our cabin was very clean and comfortable. Nothing. We loved everything about our stay.
- Jane (3/5): Taken together, the above criticisms made this stay very poor value for money. - We liked the location and the overall decor of the lodge. What really spoiled our visit was a really bad bed. We could feel each spring as a lump. That meant that we did not get any real rest. The whole day was affected by our lack of sleep which is crucial when traveling. Also, the "takeaway breakfast" was really sugar snacks (including the yogurt). When booking, it appeared that we would be able to get food at the lodge restaurant; however, on arrival we were told it had not yet opened for the season. Fortunately for us, we had leftovers in our cooler and had use of the microwave in the common area. Amenities listed include an outdoor hot tub; this, too, was not yet open for the season.
- Pam (9/5): The breakfast was less than expected. Only snacks and make your own coffee. - Beautiful property It was certainly isolated . Need to be told to bring your own food. Nothing really available close by to go out. The restaurant was not open while we were there. Glad we brought a few sandwich makings .
- Tamara (8/5): Comfortable stay and great location in Boulder, UT area - Beautiful setting. We had a large room ( room 9, upstairs suite) which was a great setup with a small sitting room and balcony which we enjoyed. Some of the other rooms in the main lodge looked smaller. Lovely dining deck and common room. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try the restaurant but we were only 12 minutes from Hells Backbone Grill (an outstanding restaurant). Breakfast ok. Room right over the kitchen so cleanup went on until 10. Didn’t bother us but if you are early to bed could be an issue.

- Martina (8/5): Nice, but expected more - Location, Great Room, dog friendly, resident animals, restaurant, friendly staff. Cool decorations and outdoor spaces. Lack of sound proofing, claustrophobic room w/very narrow „Queen“ bed, no view or option to open window, no heat in bathroom. Made reservations for the restaurant but didn’t get a table until half hour later. By then, most choices were no longer available and we were served a subpar, leftover cut of steak. No apologies. Otherwise good meal.
- Joshua (8/5): A great idea with a few flaws. - The location was nice. Remote enough to be silent. Yet not too far out of the way.
The lovely woman in the office was very helpful.
The concept is quite inviting and alluring. Friendly farm cats around, one of which scampered up the roof of our yurt and perched on top of the skylight to watch over us for a while. Extension cords galore! The entire yurt and bathroom are run by extension cords... It was quite chilly overnight and trying to run one of the provided electric heaters in our yurt resulted in a late night "hot electrical" smell. Upon investigation of the smell, the cord used for the heater was so hot I couldn't unplug it with bare hands. Knowing what I know about electrical requirements, I am amazed that this issue hasn't been addressed already.
The stone steps to our yurt had a broken stone that was potentially quite dangerous.
The parking/turn around area at the last 2 yurts is not adequate for 2 vehicles and very difficult for even one full size vehicle.

- gorsuch (10/5): - The quite location
- Xiaoyan (9/5): -
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful place to stay in a stunning landscape - Lovely remote spot Checking in late needs guidance. We arrived to find no staff, no details, nobody to call & no phone reception anyway. Instructions could be left for late arrivals.
- Pamela (10/5): This was one of the best places we stayed during our Utah parks trip! - fun staff, great restaurant, pretty decor, wonderful setting, and adjacent to fantastic horse ranch! We would love to come back! Bathroom door outside Room 8 squeaks.. needs WF-40. 👍
- Marc (9/5): -
- Baumann (2/5): Pass on this one. - The views. This is not a resort. It is difficult to get around in the main lodge. People with mobility concerns should not attempt this. Rickety tables, chairs and stairs. Staff is minimal and does not appear until late afternoon. Instant oatmeal, cookie bars and occasional coffee is breakfast. No lunch. There was no water for a shower this morning. Electricity went out last night. There was no staff on site to help us with the lack of water, so we left.
- gordon (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Romantic, cozy, comfortable and fun! - The secluded area, the yurt was amazing, clean and cozy! Fit our family! We all loved it!
- Terri (10/5): I really enjoyed the rustic ranch feel of this place, without being too rustic. Awesome restaurant. - The restaurant is outstanding. Delicious food. The yurt totally self-contained. Attached bathroom perfect. Loved the remote location for the rustic ranch feeling. Beautiful setting. The only thing is the yurt I was in has some air gaps in the window, which lets some air in. Also, the curtains don’t fully cover the windows. Seems that’s an easy fix and not sure why they haven’t done that. People walking to the bathroom, from the other yurt, can see in.
- Dave (10/5): Now that we know how to get there, we may be back... with my own pillow. haha - I liked the variety of breakfast items. I was able to try a couple different teas. The staff was very friendly and had several restraunt recommendations. Finding the hotel was very difficult. As we drove down the drive, we came across the horses, with a sign that looked like we weren't suppose to be there. The bed and pillows were not comfortable.
- Ann (7/5): Good value. Great scenery way better than staying in a chain hotel. - The woman named Cara, who was taking care of General affairs was really lovely. She did a good job. I like that they were generous and offered us breakfast snacks and opportunity to fuel up for the day. That was unexpected. The configuration of the room was very uncomfortable not much legroom. No side table rather cramped, especially to get up in the middle of the night to find a bathroom.
- Larry (4/5): - The floors were dirty and the sirloin steak almost too tough to cut much less chew.
- Heather (10/5): Fabulous retreat - Beautiful location Na
- Stephanie (9/5): A great experience trying something new and enjoying the mountain stars at night - Amazing property and adorable, well decorated Yurt with a great front porch
Staff was so helpful and welcoming
Restaurant on premises for dinner that was SOOOOO Good! Our bathroom was outside our Yurt-so bring a flashlight-bathroom shower was kinda awkward
Bed was small for two and needs a new mattress
breakfast NOT included
- Christine (7/5): Do not stay downstairs in main building - Location. Wood interior. We were put into the main house which meant we were next to a kitchen, a restaurant, a great room with people conversing until 10 pm, a bathroom outside our door for public use, window that didn’t open, under a room above us with creaky floors and people wearing heavy shoes. Do NOT stay in the main house. It was like a ski lodge/bar. People laughing outside our door, the bed creaking above us. Worst worst room ever. An air conditioner unit stuck in the window and no view.
Food in restaurant good but pricey. Face it ..there is nothing else around. We stayed in Richfield the night before. Less expensive and quiet.
A very disappointing stay.
- ruth (6/5): - Great location, rustic and had charm .
The 3 bedroom cabin only has 1 bathroom on the first floor and it was hard to get that info beforehand in detail. Not convenient for a group considering the 2 bedroom next door has 2 bathrooms.
Rooms comfy enough but not fancy .
The floors were awful , full of dog hair, clumps of human hair, gross. Secondly had to wash every dish we used. Not cleaned properly.
- Valentina (9/5): -
- Piotr (8/5): Beautiful location, friendly staff. Very nice place - location is amazing! view from the main room, makes you want to sleep there. Wifi was good, staff was super friendly and helpful. There is microwave, coffee machine and fridge. Restrooms are shared, but still convenient. Overall, place is not cheap but still great. There was no night stand in the room, no place to put your phone etc, close to the bed. No light close to the bed, so forget about reading before going to sleep, room was very small, and wifi was very weak. Breakfast was OK, but it was just coffe/tea and some instant oatmeal, organic candybars and apple. Some bread would be appreciated :)
- Jill (10/5): - Property was beautiful- lots of land to explore, hike and watch the sun rise.
- Austin (10/5): -
- Mary (10/5): - Great out of the way guest ranch. Very relaxing and peaceful. Friendly, accommodating staff. Restaurant food was on point.
- Astrid (9/5): -
- Steve (10/5): -
- Joanna (9/5): Great views and rustic ranch vibe - The evening staff was super accommodating when we realized we had confused our reservations at the ranch with another local hotel. They gave us directions and left us specific instructions on how to find our room late at night. The room was comfortable and the views were amazing. The stars at night and the canyons by day are so worth the drive to this somewhat remote location. The only item that was a little strange was I never saw any staff for the ranch. I didn't really need anyone, the breakfast snacks and coffee were pretty self explanatory and we did self checkout through text, but sometimes it is nice to just chat with the local folks.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok alternative near Boulder - This hotel is convenient if you are trying to spend time in Boulder or want to be a little off the beaten path. Disappointing that none of the windows had screens on them that you could get fresh air and so the small rooms feel kind of cramped. Polyester sheets not my favorite. The staff is very friendly
- Baptiste (10/5): -
Rien
- Lee (9/5): -
- Annabelle (10/5): - We had to check in late but it wasn't a problem. Had a great stay!
- Anja (10/5): Fantastisch - Ligging in de natuur, goed restaurant Airco slechts kleine unit en zeer luid
- Verified traveler (8/5): A Unique Stay Under the Stars—with a Few Bumps - We had a mostly enjoyable stay at this property. The main guest house was a lovely place to unwind, and the complimentary breakfast was a pleasant and unexpected bonus. The staff was friendly and made a genuine effort to assist us throughout our stay.
The yurt itself was a unique experience—just as pictured, with a cozy interior and a peaceful setting. One of the highlights was definitely stargazing at night, which was beautiful.
That said, there were a few hiccups. When we arrived at check-in time, the yurt wasn’t quite ready, which caused a bit of a delay. We also had trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi inside the yurt, even though it was advertised as being available. The staff did try to help, but unfortunately, we were never able to get it working.
The bathroom setup was clean and included a shower, which we appreciated, but there were no instructions for using the hot water heater, which made it a little confusing to get started.
Overall, it was a memorable experience with some room for improvement.
- Marlee (10/5): Wonder and delight to just look at the area. - What an amaxing place to stay. They give you many choices for breakfast it's an unattended breakfast but it's wonderful. I just couldn't get enough non decaf coffee pouches. There's cream there's yogurts there's cheese there's everything for you in the mornings. The staff is very happy to talk to you and tell you all about the area and help you with directions. Talk about a wonderful place to eat the restaurant is outstanding everything we ate there was delicious
- Douglas (9/5): Superb -
- Cheryl (7/5): We really enjoyed our stay there. We took advantage of the onsite hiking trail to the beautiful waterfall - The location is remote, beautiful views and quiet. I loved the large gathering room. It is very inviting and a great place to sit and have conversations with other people. The outside deck is large and a great place to sit and relax at the end of the day. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is no staff on site after 8 pm. I felt vulnerable in the case of any kind of emergency happening there in the evenings or early morning hours. There is no cell service there to make an emergency call.
- Dan (10/5): The place is great and we would recommend it. - The onsite restaurant, Sweetwater Kitchen, was excellent. Short hike on the property to a small waterfall.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Remote Mountain Getaway - Great location in the mountains on Hell’s Backbone Rd. Very fun and exciting to get out there. The property is beautiful and has a large lawn for events. Dog-friendly. This lodging is remote with no tv’s and with unreliable wi-fi.
Room 5 in main lodge was small with only 1 ft on either side of the bed. No tables or surfaces to place your things except the inside of the armoire. Shower had poor water pressure.
Best time we had was at the adjoining restaurant for dinner at sunset. Delicious food. Fantastic service. Beautiful views.
- Roger (3/5): Great Restaurant (Sweetwater Kitchen), Horrible Hotel - Stay Somewhere Else - There were some nice "homey" touches: a large sitting room with some snacks/coffee. The staff (limited though it is) was nice. The restaurant is EXCELLENT (but this is not a reason to stay in the hotel). The Wifi worked OK. The room was miniscule - barely larger than the queen bed. The A/C was loud and functioned badly. The shower was a sad joke. The water was practically undrinkable and smelled badly of sulfur (although there was filtered water available in the sitting room). Although I did not have a problem with noise - the hotel was pretty empty - I could easily imagine that, with a bigger/louder crowd, it would be horrible.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Monica (4/5): I would not recommend this establishment and do not plan to return. - The location worked well for us since we were dining at Hells Backbone Grill and exploring trails and drives in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The setting is beautiful. The deck and lodge room were nice places to relax. The room was too small for two people to move about comfortably. It felt like an interior room since the window, which faces the restaurant dining patio has a black-out film on it. Very claustrophobic. The breakfast offerings were minimal and there were no instructions on the water dispenser or coffee maker. Our room code was easy to guess and I heard another guest remarking, "Our room 7 code is 0707, do you think all the rooms are like that?" Good grief! No security in that system at all! There was NEVER any staff around and we were not shown around or given any introduction at check-in other than "Feel free to walk around the property." The restaurant was closed both days we were there. This place seems to be more focused on being an event venue (i.e. weddings and music festivals) and forgets that it also books travelers as guests.
- Steven (10/5): We had a great stay. Very dog friendly. All staff were very kind. It was quite hot and our AC in our cabin was fantastic - Gorgeous, rustic, great facilities and fabulous dinner at the restaurant . It is a bit of a distance from the areas we were hiking but worth it in the long run.
- Brian (8/5): Very good -
- Tiangco (7/5): Enjoyable stay with my dogs. - Dinner was fantastic and tasty. It was also dog friendly which was very important to me. I also loved the field in front of the lodge for my dogs to play with the resident dog. The room was a noisy in the evening until dinner was over because of the location next to the bathroom and dinning room. I wish it has a door directly to the outside.
- Hsiwei (8/5): - The hotel is at very remote area and only hotel WIFI can be used to communicate. Not all area has good WIFI service. View was great and the food at hotel restaurant was super great - highly recommend. We took the room 5 . It was clean and good size but it can be a bit noisy if the upstairs guest is moving the luggarge
- Jerry (7/5): A pleasant but different experience. - The room was rustic but comfortable. Dinner was very good! Very quiet, peaceful location. The stairs were challenging for an elderly couple like us, especially getting our bags up to the room.
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ben (10/5): - The facilities are great, but in need of maintenance. The setting is absolutely stunning, and the surroundings are breathtaking.
The restaurant is world-class, the food was absolutely delicious and presentation was very elegant.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (9/5): Superb - The setting was beautiful, our room/suite had a deck with a lovely view of the hillside and trees behind the lodge. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The great room was lovely, and was a great place to meet and chat with world wide travelers.Tho the rooms were small (we had a "suite"), we didn't spend much time in them. Would be fine for 2 adults, but there were 3 of us.If we wanted to sit and talk, we went to the "great room." The extra bed in the suite was very uncomfortable, at least for an adult. It had a funky design and the was hard as a rock in odd places. The staff tried to make it more comfortable with extra blanket padding, but it needs to be replaced with a futon or something else. It's in a small space, but there must be better options. Main bed (Q size) was fine.
- Robert (7/5): Booking description is not accurate. - The cabin we ended up in was nice. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was good. The description and associated amenities and picture on booking.com are misleading to the point that when we arrived and viewed the yurt we reserved we asked to be moved to cabin. The yurt single beds are not good there was no private bathroom etc.
- Beck (5/5): Property has potential to be amazing, but many deficits on our visit. - Quiet, funky property far off the road. Secluded setting was peaceful and beautiful. Restaurant closed at 8 PM. Arrived at 8:10 PM. Staff disappeared after arrival. Unacceptably small room adjacent to restaurant rest room. Window did not have a screen and no other ventilation. Breakfast was a joke. No paper products - napkins, paper towels. Coffee was not to be found. No staff on premises in the morning. Restaurant opened at 3:00 PM. Dog friendly… saw a dog pee in their “. great room”.
- Joo Tim (10/5): - Great place and hidden gem. It is on a nice outdoor space with lovely walking trails and also great views. There are few dogs on the property like Pepe and Shadow. Such a lovely time
- Robert (8/5): - Great location, nice log lodge atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were given a room wierdly sandwiched between the restaurant and the "great" room where the morning coffee bar and most socializing were located. No soundproofing, so very noisy. Food in restaurant was excellent, but we had to wait an hour and a half to get served. I do believe that was just bad timing, and that this is not the norm.
- Javier (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marilyn (10/5): Exceptional - Great location for traveling the Utah parks
- Louise (10/5): - Beautiful location and lovely yurt. Our dinner and drinks were delicious at the lodge. The greatroom was a pleasant place to hang out with new friends. Loved our short but sweet stay.
- Martin (8/5): Very good - Room was small
- John (10/5): - Cool little place - like everything else in this part of the country - far off the beaten path!
- Kenneth (6/5): - Nice but very rustic. Not a lot of amenities when we were there. The great room is really nice. Our room was really small
- Scott (10/5): Will definitely come back with the family and want to host a yoga retreat here. - Cozy room. Superb restaurant. Easy check in. The staff was kind, especially in the restaurant. Really loved the food at the restaurant. The location was excellent. It was Thanksgiving weekend so I understand why but the hotel staff was MIA.
- Theresa (8/5): Lovely place - explore Burr trail and other trails - Loved the great room, welcoming and comfortable Our room was very hot at night- opened window to cool off but cat sat outside window and meowed loudly- we then needed to close window
- Gabor (10/5): - A very quaint experience. In the middle of nowhere a very rustic lodge. Staff were awesome, we got a bigger room after finding the first one a bit too small. The heating panel didn't work properly in our room but it was solved with a space heater that worked well. The onsite restaurant is excellent; too bad they don't serve breakfast, only dinner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Rustic charm meets modern art - Nestled in quiet little valley with a stream, large, clean, rustic cabin with a great room and on-site restaurant, variety of interesting metal artworks both inside and out on the grounds, including a xylophone sound garden, close to Boulder and Upper and Lower Creek Calf Falls just a few minutes down the old Hells Backbone road. Very friendly staff.
- Stacy (9/5): Superb - Awesome views. Good food and service in the restaurant. Nice atmosphere. In the middle of no where!
- Thomas Kent (8/5): - This was a very interesting unique property
- Michael S (8/5): - Beautiful room and location but minimalist staff and breakfast
- Liz (10/5): - Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch is an absolutely beautiful getaway! Remote, quiet, a beautiful natural setting, and the lodge itself is stunning. The staff was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our room was tiny but cozy and quiet. Our personal bathroom was roomy and clean. The lounge area was clean, quiet and cozy with self-serve coffee and tea available, as well as a beautiful fireplace and board games. We were given bagged continental breakfasts that consisted of apples, hard boiled eggs, muffins and granola bars. Since we had a long drive ahead of us, we appreciated the convenient travel food. We would definitely stay at this lodge again!
