Guest Reviews
- Alison (10/5): -
- Wieslaw (9/5): Nice place to stay - Rooms were fairly clean and tidy, the food was delicious in the restaurant All OK
- Leonie (6/5): Average - Property was clean but tired the room was extremely hot. Very noisy floorboards heard other guests all night walking in rooms and corridors until 11.30 at night. Also food option on a Sunday finishes at 5pm.
- Alyson (7/5): - Very clean and the bed was very comfy.
Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice and staff were very friendly Unfortunately, no fault of the hotel, we had very selfish, noisy guests above us, arguing in the early hours, so our sleep was very disturbed
- George (8/5): Comfortable, friendly, functional and reasonably priced. - Friendly welcome, good service and ample portions of decent food both in restaurant and for breakfast. Bedrooms reasonably well furnished, clean and functional. Separate bedroom block a bit forbidding and lacking in character.
- Richard (8/5): A good overnight stay. - The room was very spacious, and the ensuite was large and well fitted out. The rooms are securely located in a seperate wing with card access. The breakfast was good. The only grievance was they have overhead lights over the bed, but can be left off.
- Ian (10/5): A very enjoyable stay, all staff were very friendly nothing was too much trouble. - Lovely setting very quiet. Room was perfect for us. Plastic flowers everywhere in the bar/restaurant.
- Claus (7/5): - Abendessen und Frühstück gut, großer Parkplatz Das Zimmer ist in die Jahre gekommen
- Emily (10/5): -

- Claire (10/5): - 13.5 years ago we had our wedding reception at The Old Barn and we stayed in the Penhow Suite. We have had many meals there are we are local, but this was our first time returning to stay in the Suite and it was stunning. We had a warm welcome, wonderful food, and lovely stay. We loved everything!

- Graham (8/5): very good but could be better - Breakfast unmanned reception
- TRAVIS (9/5): -
Kamer is royaal. Goed verlicht. Theekistje is goed gevuld. Ontbijt was goed, maar wat kaal. Presentatie kan beter.
Gehorig; we hoorden de geluiden boven ons heel goed.
Kamer is netjes, maar wel gedateerd. Er is een bad, maar daar moet je ook in douchen.
- Mary (8/5): - food was fine - good value for money
- Ashley (10/5): -
- Tracey (10/5): - Second visit here and it was a great stay. Staff were lovely, and breakfast was great. It's a shame there isn't a coffee machine. Only filter coffee which I'm not a fan of.
- Jeremy (8/5): -
- Morwenna (10/5): -
- Debbie (10/5): Perfect, clean and friendly. - The evening meal and the breakfast were very, very good.
It was so nice to order breakfast and have it freshly cooked and served to us.
The ambience and the friendliness of the staff were very important to us.
Perhaps the lady who was at reception on our arrival and who greeted and served us our breakfast deserves a special mention. Everything was perfect.
Ooh, maybe not so much chorizo in the chicken and chorizo bake.

- Keith (9/5): Excellent amenities, friendly staff and a calm, convenient location. - A place with a lot of character in a lovely setting and convenient for anyone traveling in southeast Wales and/or western England. The room was clean and comfortable. Dessert and beverages at the pub were most enjoyable, and the breakfast also very good. All staff were friendly, professional and helpful. I would stay here again any time. Nothing at all to complain about.
- alan (10/5): -
- Roxaneh (7/5): Average. Value for money. Staff are helpful - A little outdated. The room did not lock from the inside and felt a little unsafe. The room also had a side door to an adjacent room which was closed but I couldn’t lock or bolt it from my side As above
- Derek (8/5): -
- Glenn (10/5): Ideal stop off before playing golf at Celtic Manor will definitely be booking for next year. - Very friendly atmosphere perfect location for our stay. Everything
- chris (10/5): Excellent stay - Everything There wasn't anything I didn't like. Stayed here afew times now and excellent service every time

- Shirley (6/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Overall, a pleasant stay in a comfortable and friendly hotel, with very good breakfasts & comfy beds - Very good breakfast, definitely better than the average hotel breakfast.
All staff were friendly and very helpful.
Good, safe car parking. Gloomy and rather claustrophobic approach to the hotel rooms (separate from the main building).
Initially, the room's heater couldn't cope with winter weather (not helped by the rather thin duvets). However, staff produced an additional heater which restored the ambience - and our temperatures!
- Sophie (10/5): -
- Collins (10/5): -
- Brian (9/5): -
- Ray Veysey (6/5): This is not a 4 * hotel, it wasnt bad and convenient for our needs, no more. - The food was good pub food no more. Accomodation being in a seperate building was only ok ɓecause it wasnt raining.
- Dan (10/5): -
- alan (10/5): -

- Griffiths (10/5): -
- neil (10/5): Perfect stay for a great price -
- MARTIN TROY (5/5): Great Food shame staff and accomodation didn't match - Food was 10 out of 10 Some of the restaurant staff had no idea. Asked for a table was told pick anyone if it's dirty come tell me and I'll come clean it
Some were fine but others didn't have a clue what they were doing.
In the room the bath shower seal grout very dirty
The lot mirror over sink needs checking lights don't work on right hand side
The lights going to room work on sensors the one outside room 9 wasn't working so pitch black getting into room

- Gregg (10/5): - The staff, from Reception to waiting staff were amazing, both professional and courteous at all times. The room was lovely and the walk in shower perfect. We ate a la carte and the portions generous and well made. I can’t fault the stay from start to finish. Highly recommend.
- Sue (10/5): - The room was huge, had a fabulous bathtub and a lovely outlook, the food was great, the atmosphere was welcoming but the best thing was the people - the staff went out of their way to help me with all of my questions and requests and were just fantastic - it will be my place to stay every time I go to Newport from now on
- janet (8/5): - Food was lovely, friendly staff & pillows & bed was really comfy

Superb value for money Some of the decor is a bit tired and dated - but outweighed by the good points !

- David (9/5): Generally a lovely stay - Old style rustic features The entrance hallway to access the rooms
Has a smell of stale smoke
