Guest Reviews
- Catherine (10/5): - Loved the cabin! So spacious and clean.
Great base for south coast and golden circle.
- Karl (10/5): - Great stay and location. Stefan who contacted me was very helpful.
- todd (10/5): - Gljúfurbústaðir is a lovely place, perfectly positioned for exploring the South Coast or doing the Golden Circle. Very spacious. Hot tub a nice bonus. Not a big deal, but the hot water smells strongly of sulphur (low carbon footprint!).
- Vimal (10/5): - It was great experience. We were late to check-in after hours, host picked up phone and helped out to check-in. Lockation was great. Very clean.
- Jennifer (10/5): - This delightful A-frame cottage was perfectly located for exploring the South Coast while still being within an hour or so of Reykjavik & the airport. All of the cozy touches of quilts, wall-hangings, couch pillows, etc. made the space feel like our family belonged there. There was plenty of privacy but we didn't feel isolated. We could see both mountains and the ocean from our windows. It's obvious the hosts/owners really want their guests to feel welcome and informed. It was easy to get into Selfoss for dinner or shopping, and also to get to the great little village of Hveragerdi. I can see why it would be a hit even in winter.
- Kulinder (6/5): - The cabin was warm and cosy, but there was no space to keep our luggage and the cabin had no closets. No bathing soap was provided and no garbage bags, The hot tub is a plus. Over all enjoyed our stay at the cabin.
- Susan (10/5): - Property was perfectly located. Access roads were well maintained under snowy conditions.
Communication for host great, lots of tips.
Accomodation was well equipped, beds comfy, kitchen well stocked, very clean. Location ideal in golden circle. Bonus and liquor store not to far. Along with amazing bakery. Highly recommend Accomodation
- David (10/5): Amazing holiday - Great cabins, well spaced out, good living space, loved the hot tub. Things like kitchen roll, toilet roll, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, soap... Was all supplied. Leftover spices/herbs from previous users.
Only little problem we had is space for our suitcases. As the bedrooms are small and our bags were too high to fit under the bed. But we would definitely return. Saw the northern lights by popping outside. We stayed 5 nights.
- Claire (10/5): - These are incredible cabins.
A brilliant location, just off route one, but in outside of the main town of Hvergardi, so minimal light pollution. We were so lucky to capture the Aurora every night we stayed there - watching them form the hot tub was an amazing experience.
The cabins are warm and cozy and had everything you could possibly need for a memory making trip to Iceland.
Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.
- James (10/5): Farm Cottage Stay With Excellent Views - Wonderful cottage stay on a farm with plenty of room and everything you need for an enjoyable stay. I particularly liked the fact the cottages are situated so that you cannot see one another, giving you the feeling you are alone. The views from the cottage to the valley below is spectacular.
- Kevin (8/5): - Good for a small group in cabin. Newer sheets and bedding would be nice and make it feel cleaner. Also having coffee for coffee maker would be a nice touch. Would stay there again - good location near many sights and town is less than 10 minutes away with good bakery and there are couple of places to eat, groceries, fuel and ATM.
- Sally (10/5): Wonderful. - The cabin and the owners were wonderful. We did have a little problem figuring out how to check in. You have to go to the owners home 3pm or later. We were looking for registration at the first cabin. There is a sign that states go 400 m to check in but we thought that meant where the cabins were. Once we checked in things went perfectly. Would definitely stay here again.
- Maggie T. (6/5): Cozy cabin, poor communication - I’m torn about how to rate my experience because the property mostly met my expectations, the experience leading up to my stay did not.
I didn’t receive any communication from the property manager leading up to my stay. I tried reaching out through the app to get the address & check-in information, but didn’t receive a response. When I landed in Iceland, I still had not heard back, so I called VRBO’s customer service line. After a very frustrating conversation, I was given the owner’s phone number to try to contact them. The owner advised that VRBO never provided my contact info & didn’t receive my messages thru VRBO’s messaging system.
Ultimately, I was able to get in touch with the owner & got the check-in information the same day we spoke. Once I had the information, check-in was very easy. However, it felt like VRBO was putting it all on me to rectify the issue. I don’t understand how I can be charged & receive a confirmation email if my contact info wasn’t shared. I also don’t really understand why the owner didn’t work with VRBO to get my information if there was a known glitch where he sometimes doesn’t receive contact info. It was an incredibly stressful situation to be dealing with in a foreign country, where I had very little access to the internet unless I stopped somewhere that I could connect to the wifi.
I booked this 3 bedroom cabin (which is actually 2 bedrooms and a loft) with a friend for a 4 day trip. Only 1 bed was made, so there was an assumption that the reservation for 2 was a couple, which was not the case. Also, there were only 2 towels and 2 hand towels provided for a 4 day stay, no additional towels or linens (that we could find). I did reach out for extra towels, but the reception hours were not convenient for our travel plans, so I wasn’t able to pick them up.
The cabin was cozy & warm. It lacks storage, so there wasn’t really anywhere to tuck away our large luggage or hang/store clothes, but it was fine for a 4 day stay. I couldn’t imagine staying here with 6 people though, it would be very tight!
The hot tub was nice & we even saw the northern lights from the cabin one night! It was also conveniently located for our plans to see Reykjavík, the Golden Circle & day trip to Jökulsárlón.
- Julie (10/5): - We loved our cabin! It had great space for a family of 5 and had everything we needed. My husband and son hiked the hill behind us and could see to the ocean. What an amazing way to start off our trip in Iceland. The location is great to visit the Secret Lagoon and Thingvellir Nat’l Park. Selfoss is only a 5 minute drive, so we had access to restaurants, grocery stores, gas station and shops. Eat at Fjorubordid- it’s on the coast and a hidden gem! Great place to stay, we loved it.
- Johannes (8/5): Cozy cottage - Conveniently located; cozy; great hot tub. Could use an update & deep clean.
- Daniel (10/5): - Beautiful location in a secluded area.
- Ian (8/5): Almost like a Wham Last Christmas video - We wish we had gone in summer. Its in the middle of nowhere, just what we wanted, sadly the weather was really bad. A 4wd is a must as driving in and out of the property isn't easy. The cabin is really cosy, the hot tub is great even in awful weather. There were only 4 of us but potentially could accommodate 8 people and yet there wasn't any wardrobes so nowhere to put your stuff. The hot water is all supplied geothermically but stinks of egg , Great for heating the property not so great for showering under. Bonus supermarket in nearby village and an off license though bring from home what you can cos everything is expensive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great cottage near the Golden Triangle - The cottage is nicely designed and kept in a good condition. We enjoyed the hot tub that was provided. Location is great, ten minutes from either a big or smaller town. The owner is friendly and hospitable.
- Tania W. (10/5): Wonderful place to return to after exploring - Beautiful area and views. Very friendly host who live just down the road. Cabin was clean and had all amenities we needed. We saw northern lights perfectly 3 of the 4 nights there! Just 5 -10 minutes to a couple towns for gas, groceries, and dinner. We didn’t use the hot tub but I’m sure many would enjoy. I would recommend and if we are lucky enough to return to Iceland, would stay here again.
- sharon H. (8/5): A few vital missing details... - The property was lovely, but unfortunately, as the summer heat increases and the flies begin to come out, the owners only solution was the keep the doors and windows closed. It became unbearably close to 100 degrees and it was imposssible to not crack some doors, and then we spent the entire night trying to kill 1 million and a half bugs, we got eaten alive. We seriously considered getting a hotel or sleeping in our car. Clearly, we weren't supposed to open the doors, but we were sweating all night and slept very little. I highly recommend you insist on screens to allow for some air circulation or an airconditioning unit before staying at this location. Aside from that unfortunate situation, the cottage is lovely and well equipped, it had a beautiful view and was close to town and a lot of desirable tourist destinations. That being said, without resolving the heat situation, we wouldn't stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Having our own cabin with private hot tub under the stars was the attraction here, and it did not disappoint!! We ended up with clear skies most of all 3 nights, though still no lights sighting. But even with 14 deg F temps and whipping wind, we enjoyed the super late night soaks! The cabin was rustic and warm, we put together a puzzle, cooked for ourselves, slept well! Glad we brought our bluetooth speaker so we could listen to music. No disappointments except the toilet flushing buttons broke on the last night. We stopped at the owner's house and they had a plumber there the next morning as we were leaving for Reykjavic. Can't fault them for that at all! The cabin was charming!
