Guest Reviews
- Jenny (8/5): - The staff and hospitality were exceptional. We had a quiet and comfortable stay.
- Richard (8/5): Stayed a few nights, suited my requirements ok. - The location for me was excellent, busy little street with restaurants and bars. Room was nice and clean. Bar staff were very helpful and friendly. The room at the top of the stairs should have a blind. As soon as it gets light outside, the room lights up. Take your own black out eye shades and ear plugs. The sea gulls start around 5am. If you have a case and are travelling from the railway or coach station, get a taxi for around £7. It’s a longer walk than the 15mins advised time.
- Nigel (10/5): - It’s a cosy pub. So convenient for a single fella staying, before a cruise. It’s clean, simple and friendly. Also, you get a nice % off on drinks in the bar. N/A - all good.
- Ian (10/5): -
- Gayle (9/5): Perfect for a one night stay for work with good access to amentities - Good location and easy to park (although not free), staff were very friendly. Nice, compfy single room with everything needed for a single night stay. Lots of plugs by the bed is also great. Nothing
- Core (6/5): Unhappy Times - Staff was friendly and the room was clean. The shower was the WORST!! No hot water and the place was noisy with karioke all night.
- Jon (7/5): -
- Berkant (1/5): - They cancelled my reservation on the day of my stay.
- Gert (9/5): -
- Lovely Luz (9/5): Very reasonable and great for short stays . - Location ! location ! Went on a Celebrity Cruise. The port is only less than a mile. We walked from the port to the hotel. Friendly staffs and very helpful lady housekeeper. Above the Bar
- Cheek (9/5): Great location for cruise terminal, food and drink. Great staff and atmosphere at an affordable pric - Excellent location. Although above pub in what was basically bar street and on a Saturday night there was no noise in the room. Also extras like books games and cahargers/adaptors available I think the shower floor may need replacing. It's a wet room with lots of 'give' in the shower area
- Richard (8/5): Ideal location for the footy. - Convenient for the football N/A
- andrew (9/5): - I liked the price it was clean and perfectly located for the cruise terminal bedrooms clean & tidy Needs black out blinds for room 4 as lights from street came straight into room
- Lucy (8/5): - Good location. Lovely area. Clean room and comfy beds. A little noisy at times.
- Sean (8/5): -
- Taylor (9/5): A Great Boutique Feel - A nice location with a Boutique feel. Amazing friendly & helpful Staff. No lift, however the staff did help us with our Luggage.

Location good,
Plenty of places to eat all on Oxford st Steep stairs to the room,
I had to leave my case down stairs
- Nick (7/5): -
- David (7/5): Great location, good atmospher in the local area, 10 minute walk to west Quay -
- Lee (8/5): A superb location at the heart of a buzzing food & music - The location. I like everything.
- Dr PAULA (3/5): awful due to misleading information - nothing Shocking accommodation- 3 flights steep stairs - have to move through disgusting junk hall way to reach stairs
no breakfast which we paid for!! askitchen closed
no fire exit
should not be used for dental
- Stephen (9/5): -
- Orn (6/5): -
- Rockinggam3r (10/5): -

- Eamonn (8/5): -
- Kevin (7/5): You get what you paid for, however, some 3 star hotels in Southampton were cheaper, with breakfast. - The location, freindly staff, quick booking in. The room, was not that welcoming, very small single bed. First time that I have been put in that room (6)
- John (8/5): -
- Alex (10/5): Ideal spot for a night in the town - Ideal place for a night out, situated over the bar on a busy street, the room was surprisingly nice for a pub/hotel and very comfortable I would definitely use it again Nothing
- Mary (7/5): - It was terribly noisy! the washing machine at 6am got me out of bed.
- Beryl (9/5): -
- Michal (10/5): -
- Margaret (9/5): Fantastic staff, accommodation and value for money - A lovely pub. Staff so helpful, kind and considerate. A lovely area of Southampton to explore. Lots of helpful information prior to arrival date . The room was very clean and comfortable including the bed. Woukd definitely stay again. Thank you.
- Claire (8/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): Clean and conveniently situated property with friendly staff. - Unassuming small venue, but obviously run attentively. Clean and friendly. I had the single room at the top and there was no disturbance from the bar activities. Have booked again for May 26 and will use permanently for my cruise travels from Southampton. N/A
- Peachey (10/5): -
- Elsbury (9/5): -
- Katarina (10/5): - I loved this place. Single room looked very nicely appointed, comfy bed, nice bathroom, great pub underneath but almost zero noise. Staff friendly and kind. Nothing. Great place.
- peter (7/5): -
- Ian (9/5): -
- Claire (10/5): It was good - Location
- Kevin (10/5): Cost freindly, atmospheric, clean, freindly staff. - Freindly staff - good communication, location. No breakfast, reccomended to use a establishment across from the Grapes.
- Connie (8/5): The location is great and its a fun and quirky place to stay with lots of character. - The room had a lovely view of the neighborhood below, and it was still very quiet. This is a great location to stay if you’re taking a cruise because it’s very close to the port. The staff was very nice and they even gave you a discount down in the pub and the restaurant accruing the street which was excellent. I was fine with the three flights of stairs but my partner had some difficulty with that last flight.
- Tuyet Anh (5/5): -
- Keith (6/5): Ok for 1 night - Convenient A bit basic
- Chris (10/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): Highly recommended staying at Grapes. Great location, really friendly staff. - Great location, friendly staff. Really nice pub downstairs. Pool table is in an awkward location and some shots difficult to play because cue hits wall.
- Julian (9/5): -
- Amy (10/5): Perfect for a short stay - Really good central location with different restaurants. As they were quiet they moved me to a bigger room which was fab. Room was spacious and clean with tea and coffee. Will be back if I'm ever back in Southampton Some noise but nothing more than you expect from the very central location.
- Marie-Christelle (8/5): -
- Martin (9/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): Pleasant - The bar No breakfast
- Jennifer (9/5): Comfortable stay in a good location in Southampton. - Located on a lively street in the center of Southampton. Good location from which to walk to all the historic sites and the waterfront. Guestroom was clean, well lit and plenty of outlets near the bed to charge devices. The fact that there was no elevator, but I knew that in advance. The mayflower poured from which I was departing it’s not accessible from the hotel on foot by bus.
- Alexandra (9/5): Lovely stay in historical house - My room and the bed were cosy.
The atmosphere was so nice.
The staff was kind and helpful.
I loved it to stay there and would come and stay for another time.
Just a 5 minute short walk to the harbour. There is really nothing to mention.
Everything was great.
- Daveff (10/5): - Value...location...room..price 2 flights of stairs...if you had heavy luggage...which i didnt...it would have been difficult
- Mark S (9/5): -
- Marcus (9/5): -
- Cohen (10/5): Brilliant, value for money, prime location for nightlife - Lovely location! Very lively pub with sports! Also on entry I was give a golden card which gave me 10 % off all drinks for my whole stay 😀 Nothing top quality pub/hotel
- Justine (9/5): - Location for pubs and food in th evening was great.
8 min walk in the morning to the Redjet passenger ferry terminal
- Bastian (7/5): -
- Ayfer (8/5): Keyifli. - Konumu ve temizliği Merdivenler çok yorucu.Valiz için yardımcı yok.
- Angela (10/5): Absolutely fabulous - Excellent location. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Lots of little extra touches. Extras on the landing eg toiletries wine glasses umbrella in case of rain, small fridge in room. This place was a great find would definitely stay here again. Nothing it was just perfect.
- Teresa (10/5): Feel at home here. Feels like a Charles Dickens nicely - This is my third time at The Grapes prior to transatlantic journeys The history and tradition
- Karina del Rosario (8/5): Very nice place, lovely bedroom, very safe - Muy limpio , baño espectacular.
- Kerry (10/5): -
- Joanna (8/5): -
- Shirley (10/5): Comphy time for three nights - Such nice people working here and the room was clean as could be. The bed was comfortable. Things were hopping down in the pub for the weekend I stayed and if I drank I might have joined them. The stairs aren't as awful as some people describe but I am so out of shape and old I really had to be careful and take one step at a time hanging on to the railing. My suitcase was carried up and down for me.
And the price couldn't be beat for a weekend in a port city.
- Deborah (9/5): A very good quality stay in a great location and a reasonable - Everything, the customer service was excellent. Steep stairs up to the room but the barman carried our luggage up for us so not a big deal.
- Sami (7/5): - Hyvä sänky, paljon ruoka paikkoja ympärillä. Mukava suihku. Oli perjantai ilta, joten erittäin paljon meteliä aina kello 12pm asti.
- Edgar (5/5): It was okay.clean and warm - Location. Staff friendly. Very steep stairs. A lot of
- Edgar (5/5): -
- Eunice Anne (10/5): -
- Sue (7/5): Convenient to port in readiness for cruise - Convenient, friendly Very small room, not a lot of room to put your suitcase down to open it
- Janice (9/5): - Great location, lively street so plenty of options nearby for eating and parking Nothing,
- kelly (10/5): A great short stay - The staff. The location, walking distance to the cruise port Comfortable bed. The pub was quaint & although they don’t serve food, there is a wonderful Greek place next door (Miss Pita) and they brought our food to us in the pub The television (it kept searching for a signal)
- IAN (9/5): Great value and perfect location - Well situated, nice pub downstairs, room clean and well appointed for the rate. No complaints
- Ben (8/5): - Handy for the cruise terminal4
- Alison (10/5): -
- Julie Mitchell (7/5): Great for an overnight stay - We attended our friends birthday party at XOXO which was across from where we were staying so it was handy to walk over.
Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby.
The room was clean and met our needs for a overnight stay and was good value. It didn't bother us, but it was quite loud as there were so many bars locally.
The rooms are up two flights of stairs which might be difficult if staying longer with bigger cases.
- Alan (9/5): -
- Tony (10/5): - Value for money Nothing all good
- ashley (9/5): Great stay and value for money. - Great location, lovely staff and clean rooms. Stayed many times. Can get a bit noisy at night.
- Alison (5/5): A bit disappointing - Central location Having to wait at the busy bar to get checked in. The bar maid wasn't friendly when I tried to talk to her when she had a queue of people to serve.
Noise level in room was high until early hours.
- Jane (8/5): Nice but noisy - Lovely room and good location We knew it was going to be noisy as over a pub but not quite how noisy due to outside tables under our window
- Luanne (10/5): Great Stay - Great affordable place to stay!
- Ian (10/5): -
- William (8/5): -
- sharon (8/5): Clean hotel, excellent location. - Rooms were clean and the location was excellent. Staff were pleasant and helpful. We knew ahead of time that there was no elevator, but to seniors like us the two flights of narrow stairs to the third floor was a tedious trek. We would not do it again.
- Jennifer (9/5): Lovely staff, great pub, comfortable rooms and close to restaurants and shopping. - Friendly and cosy atmosphere. Great location near restaurants and short walk into town. Tea , coffee snd biscuits in room water in fridge was a nice touch Bed was a little lumpy
- Doug (8/5): - Fantastic location. Single room very small.
