Guest Reviews
- michael (10/5): - great base camp to explore the amazing natural beauty of Yakushima. The breakfast and dinners are the best
- yoav (10/5): - The cottage, location, the host- everything was great! The host is a chef and prepared a truly wonderful vegetarian dinner for me. The room is equipped with everything you could possibly think of, and the bathroom is incredibly luxurious Nothing
- Alina (10/5): - The small homes are spacious, clean and beautiful. The ocean views are incredible. I highly recommend having breakfast and dinner at the hotel. They were my favorite meals on the island by far! The room was hot when we arrived so you may want to request that they turn on the AC/HEAT to your preferred temperature a couple of hours before you arrive. It took about 5 hours for the home to cool down to our preferred temperature.

- Michael (9/5): - The cabins were beautiful, with great views and a great location. The kitchen was fully ready and the private bath was fantastic. We are vegan and it was complicated to shop and prepare meals, but the resort facilities were excellent.

- anne (10/5): - Nous avons beaucoup aimé l'endroit.
- Schoibl (10/5): Super … sehr empfehlenswert - Exzellent.
- Neil (10/5): Great stay - Lovely spacious cabins .
Incredible bath.
Wonderful food.
Charming hosts.
- James (9/5): - TIDA offers a wonderful place to stay on the south of Yakushima. The cottages are wonderfully peaceful, the hosts warm and helpful. Very good facilities - great bathroom, lovely wooden building and good, functional kitchen. As other reviews mention Nerome san's food is outstanding. It would help to have a car here. I managed with the bus service as I had the wrong type of international driving permit. Still, I very much enjoyed the peace and serenity of TIDA and the Yudomari area.
- Agnieszka (10/5): - The houses are very comfortable and well equipped. We absolutely loved Japanese breakfasts. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. My daughter absolutely loved the goat. Apparently it is not a very easy to tame goat but after 2 days and some carrots it licked her hand ;)

- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - The Hut was actually better than on the photos. The spacious accomodation was really a good change after all these small hotel rooms. The bath tub with view on the sea, the hammock, the provided games, the laundry machine in the hut an the kitchen. Everything works great. Also it's just very close to the famous natural onsen directly at the sea (by foot 20 minutes) Nothing. I would strongly recommend to rent a car as there is not much around you. Small convenience store can be reached withing 10 minutes on foot
- Karen (9/5): Wonderful host and hostess in spotless and peaceful little resort - The couple who hosted us were amazing. They were so kind, friendly and helpful. They went beyond the call of duty to accommodate our needs and requests for help. The cabin was spotless and easily accommodated a family of four adults. The dinner was a multi-course experience and was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. We could walk to the bus stop with ease and could also walk to an onsen, to rock pools and to a convenience store and ATM. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep. It was great having a washing machine. And we loved the cat, Nenna 😊 Also loved the shower/bath with a view! It was not very convenient for accessing towns, beaches or hiking trails. But that was partly our fault because we didn’t have a car. Massively important tip: you need an international drivers licence to hire a car in Japan!!!!! We didn’t know 😩 The kitchen was very basic with just enough to get by. The creaky wooden cabin didn’t allow for getting up quietly without disturbing sleeping family members. But at least that made youngsters get up early! 😉 Limited space to hang or store clothes and couldn’t find anywhere to hang wet washing.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Everything about this place is amazing. Nothing.
- Kazuaki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (10/5): One-of-a-kind accomodation. - Every part of our experience at TIDA was brilliant. Nerome-san and Yuko-san were excellent hosts and were very accommodating. The location is exceptional and picturesque, and the food served there is amazing and of a fine-dining standard. The cottage was cozy and well-equipped for everything we needed.
- Sarah (10/5): Best stay in Japan! - What an incredible place to stay! Three stars does not do this place justice. The view from the rooms alone is priceless and our stay included a private bathtub with sea and treetop views - utter bliss! The owners of the hotel were extremely helpful, warm and inviting in sharing information about the local area and answering any questions we might have. Another stand out was the food which was hands down the best food we'd had of all the stays on our trip around Japan. A place to bathe in the beautiful natural landscape of Yakushima - highly HIGHLY recommend!
- Mai (10/5): An incredible place to stay in Yakushima! Highly recommended for an unforgettable trip to the island - Such an incredible place to stay! The cabins themselves are beautifully built and maintained with room enough for four adults if necessary (we stayed as a couple but four single beds are available). The facilities were generous with almost a fully equipped kitchen and a picturesque bathtub overlooking the ocean.
All the staff were not only friendly but went out of their way to be generous during our stay. They were so helpful and informative about the hiking and activities. I also highly recommend eating at the restaurant. This was by far the best dinner we’ve had in Japan so far!!
There is free parking available (you must have a car to stay here but I would recommend renting a car if visiting Yakushima anyway). Thank you so much for a memorable trip to such a unique area of Japan
- Adriana (10/5): Exceptional - I simply loved this place. The small house had everything we needed. A kitchen, large dining area, big bathing room. The was a terrance and the balcony with the view on the ocean. The breakfast was delicious and the owners were amazing. Really recommend although you need to rent a car to get there basically but I thing it's a standard if you want to see the island in general ;) Well... I liked everything. Just one hint for those who'll rent. Close the bathroom door. I was to reckless and I had the huntsman spider visiting me during my bath time LOL
- Sebastien (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Yulia (10/5): Exceptional - This place is exceptional. We stayed in a cottage with a stunning view of the ocean, in a very quiet, green and beautiful location. There were a hammock on the terrace, a balcony and a traditional style bath.
The whole house is wooden and very cozy.
The breakfasts and dinners in Japanese style were amazing, I highly recommend them. They were prepared by the owner of this place. The dessert with matcha on our last dinner (panna cotta with matcha) was exceptionally delicious.
The hosts are a very welcoming and friendly couple. We would be happy to return to this place again. Nothing
- Ball (10/5): Great remote island getaway - Having a whole cottage to ourselves was the perfect couples getaway. From the cutest welcoming party of a cat and baby chickens to the views from the bathhouse and balcony we wont soon forget the amazing time we had here. It was the perfect little home to come back to after a long day of hiking and it has all the amenities you want. Would've been nice to have the option of a double bed but we just pushed two singles together.
- Cedric (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional - Great location great hosts. Very clean and comfortable. Nothing. It was perfect.
- Hing (8/5): A little cottage with a beautiful view of the sea! - Beautiful scenery, clean, kitchen fully furnished, and we all slept very well. The owner, Yuko was very helpful and spoke very good English. Our chalet was cleaned, fresh towels given and rubbish cleared on daily basis. That helps a lot, as we cook. Location a bit far from town and supermarkets. But it didn’t matter for us, as we rented a car. Air conditioner needs servicing.
- Oliver (10/5): Outstanding accommodation in a beautiful location. - A beautiful hotel with fully equipped cabins that feel like luxury in the countryside. The outdoor bath and hammock feature exceptional sea views. Beds were extremely comfortable. The food was amongst the best we had in Japan, each meal was truly exceptional. The owners are kind and caring, and can offer excellent advice about sightseeing and hikes.
Renting a car is a necessity to reach this hotel, but is also highly recommended as the best way to explore Yakushima. We wished we could have stayed longer.
- Eric (10/5): I wish I was there again right now! Love!!! - The food was sublime! Seriously. Everything tasted amazing. The cabins themselves are very high quality. They did not cut corners. Everything you need is in the kitchen and the washing machine worked great too. The private bath with large window was a centerpiece and a soak in the tub was transformative!! The bedroom itself could be a bit less "rustic Summer Camp" vibe and more conducive to a romantic getaway! That would have been perfect. But I can see how this would be great for a family or small group.
- Suphachai (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marion (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (10/5): Yakushima bliss by the sea! - Outstanding cottage with great views and lovely friendly hospitality. Calm and personal hosts. Attention to detail in spades: we’ll be back!
- Natalie (10/5): Great location with excellent hosts - Very friendly and welcoming. The cottages are well designed, the beds are extremely comfortable and the location is over looking the ocean. The family that own it are really attentive and we had the optional dinner one night which was incredible and cooked by the owner chef. Easy drive from the airport and to any of the amazing hike trail heads and onsens. Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again!
- Melissa (10/5): I enjoyed the hammock and the view - Beautiful cottage. Friendly staff Nothing
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - The food, location, cottage. Owners were great. Good beer. Loved it. Old TV without casting
- Dietmar (10/5): Excellent - Extremely friendly and helpful hosts. Excellent meals.
- Wae (10/5): Exceptional! Atmosphere here helps slow down the busy life. - Everything!
Nice little bathtub in each house. Soothing after a long day hike!
The host is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I travel alone and she has took good care of me!
Staying here definitely enhanced my experience in Yakushima :)
- Gabydabydoo (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about this place, but the couple who runs it made it even more fantastic. He is an excellent cook, so enjoy at least once the amazing dinner (as well as the japanese breakfast) and she is welcoming you so warm and friendly, you just want to stay longer.
- Wolfers (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kumiko (9/5): It was so nice to have our own cottage. We also enjoyed course meal every night. - It was an Awesome cottage for our family to stay! We loved to have the entire cottage to ourselves and have the ability to prepare light meals in the kitchen. The owners of the cottage were super friendly and accommodating. We especially loved the bath and gorgeous and delicious dinner after long day of hiking. Highly recommend this place! We’ll definitely want to go back again!
- Kit (10/5): Pleasure stay - Nice view, and comfortable Quite far from city
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - The Umi no Cottage Tida was absolutely gorgeous - in all regards!! Alone that is reason enough to come back to Yakushima! Thank you so much Yuko San and Nerone San!
- Joao (10/5): Exceptional - It is a rustic style but very cozy cottage, with a beautiful view from the top floor! It is very spacious for Japanese standards, and the food we ordered was delicious!
- Jana (9/5): Superb - The cottage was great. Every detail was thought through. The view from the balcony was wonderful. The shower is located in a separate building 3 m away from the main building. The passage has a roof and is protected by a wall. For us it was no issue to move to the shower, but could bother some people.
The stove could have been a bit more powerful.
- Dimant (10/5): FLAWLESS - every single thing , the owners of the cottage taught and made sure you’ll have the best experience and view , making sure you will have everything you have at home and furthermore. it was extremely pretty, we just loved it .
- Clair (10/5): the family that looks after us during our stay are warm and welcoming. - breakfast and dinner sets were delicious, tasty and satisfying. Bit of Western and Japanese set of meal nothing
