Guest Reviews
- Harrison (10/5): - All of it None of it
- Alexandra (7/5): A good stay but best suited for one night than for multiple nights - A good stay overall, with friendly staff willing to help us with a bigger room to fit our baby cot and providing ice to keep milk cold as there was no fridge. The EV charger was free to use, but the parking spot was often occupied. Overall the Inn is better suited for an overnight stay, than for a multi-night stay. The room was 'big' but also with lots of big furniture so still lacked enough space for a cot and luggage, and the window in the downstairs room opened onto the street so couldn't be kept open at night. The bathroom in our room had only a bath, with just a handheld shower that sent water everywhere. The staff often seemed busy and stressed, working in the busy bar and restaurant. The parking was packed through the weekend.

- Philip (9/5): -
- NICHOLAS (9/5): Will come again - Lovely old English inn Piers Morgan used to live there (apparently)
- Irene (9/5): Friendly and welcoming venue, serving great food and drink with comfy rooms. - The inn is an old coaching house and has all the quaintness you could ask for. We were able to park on-site very easily and there is additional parking a short stroll away. The bedroom was comfortable and cosy with the biggest, softest towels I think I have ever had in an hotel. We had travelled with friends and were situated next door to one another as requested. The breakfast was lovely; freshly cooked and with plenty of choice on the buffet too. We also had dinner at the inn and again there was plenty of choice. The inn seemed very popular with local families having Sunday lunch which I feel is a good sign of a great venue. If I'm going to be really picky, a little extra space in the room would have been nice but it is an old coaching inn.
- yael (9/5): - The room is great, clran and beautiful. The beds are not that comfertable

- Rory Marshall (10/5): A proper pub experience – great food, great atmosphere, and a really comfortable stay. - Great stay overall – really good food and everything we needed. The atmosphere was spot on, the beer was excellent, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. The room was comfortable and made it easy to properly relax.
The area is absolutely lovely at this time of year as well, with plenty to do – from the Bluebell Railway to Piltdown Golf, as well as beautiful walks and a proper countryside feel with the surrounding farmland. Very little to fault to be honest. If anything, just a bit of room for improvement in small details, but nothing that took away from the overall experience.
- Stuart (10/5): Absolutely brilliant place to stay. Would recommend it to anyone without hesitation! - The staff were absolutely amazing! Really friendly, excellent service.
The food was as superb!
The rooms were very clean and comfortable. And it was in very close proximity to the Bluebell Railway which was the main purpose of the visit.
The village was very quiet and was it was very pleasant to visit. Would 110% go back and visit again!
- Peter (10/5): Very comfortable, very friendly, excellent quality - Excellent Breakfast, spotlessly clean room, and wonderful evening Dinner menu. Great location for enjoying teh Bluebell Railway and surrounding countryside. Enjoyable real ales and good wine selection. It was all good

- Nick (9/5): Little Gem - This is a great place. Staff, range of drinks, food, cleanliness and general ambience are great. We stayed for one night, had a lovely time, and felt right at home from the moment we arrived.
- Richard (8/5): I used to live in the next village and it was very enjoyable returning to a stunning part of the UK. - friendly pub, very popular, breakfast very flexible you could have anything you liked. Evening meal was very substantial, The room was large and although very warm when we were there we managed to create a breeze and kept cool. the blind in the bathroom did not work
- Cheryl (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back soon - Very substantial breakfast. Attentive friendly staff. Lovely grounds Milk for our tea (bedroom) was sour but this was quickly remedied.
- Janet (10/5): - Not Applicable
- William (8/5): -
- Jane (3/5): Disappointing - we had expected a higher level of food and accommodation. - The location of the property was good - in a really quaint village with a lovely wood burning stove in the bar The room smelt of damp and the decor was tired. The food was under par and we were disturbed by dogs howling in the next door room.
- Josie (10/5): Lovely countryside stay - Lovely pub, stated for NYE which was perfect - great food, service and very comfortable bed. Only a minor issue but our bath didn’t have a standing shower so unless you love a bath not the best. But not an issue for a 1 night stay.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Robert (10/5): All I can say is excellent, staff, food room and hospitality! - Everything Nothing
- Jeff Drew (10/5): Perfect, friendly, beautiful room, great service. - When I arrived I was shown my room and had the inn and breakfast explained to me. The room and the service was excellent. I will be coming back, I liked everything about it
- Nicola (9/5): - Quaint and characterful Staff a little bit grumpy
- Ellie (10/5): Beautiful peaceful cosy stay. - Beautiful room, amazing food. Such a lovely quiet retreat for 24 hours!! Staff were lovely. The breakfast was really impressive too. Nespresso machine and big selection of teas and coffees in the room with fresh milk. We stayed in the fletching room which is in the main pub. There are also outbuildings that you can stay in too. I wish I could have stayed longer.
- Mrs K E (9/5): - Atmosphere of 16 / 17 century inn. Staff very helpful. More info re history of inn and village would be nice.
Lighting in bedroom quite dark.
More vegetables included in dinner dishes please.

- Peter (9/5): -
- Frances (7/5): We love the garden & view so well worth a visit - Lovely garden Our room was on the ground floor with houses directly opposite so you had to keep curtains closed for privacy.

- Diane (8/5): Was a pleasant place to stay . Think it was over priced. Not sure if it was staff rooms above us or other guests but a r - Clean , For the price we paid I think it was over priced . A few faults with the room , towel rail on toilet foot was broken , holes had been filled in the toilet but not painted over with correct colour .

- Philip (4/5): Terrible an it should have been a nice birthday celebration - We stayed in room out in gardens on ground floor outside our window had tables and chairs with youngsters sitting outside talking all night an up an down stairs terrible an when informed the manager all he could say was sorry Food was poor
Rooms need upgrade
An if you complain re noise he should have compensated us a lot of money for a terrible night
- james (10/5): -
- David (10/5): A real surprise....location fabulous - Dinner and Excellent Young's Bitter Parking....too little
- Ann-marie (5/5): -
- Narmin (7/5): - The room was nice and had nice furnishings- staff were friendly- breakfast was amazing - Unfortunately I got there late at night but in the morning I noticed the amazing views the back garden of this Inn offered, it was wonderful- the town is also lovely and worth a walk around - location is close and mins drive away from Sheffield Park and Gardens which was one of the places I wanted to visit on my stay there I have an electric car and was expecting to use the charger provided at the venue but another non-electric car was parked in the parking space needed to be able to charge my car. I advised staff of this but they did not make any attempts in finding the owner of the vehicle and told me the owner of the car would probably be leaving soon and advised me to wait, I kept coming out of my room to check if this vehicle has left which meant that I was unable to change into my comfortable clothes and relax in my room after a long day of walking in the heat. I finally realised the owner will not be leaving and asked the staff to ask the remaining guests who were having drinks and food in the restaurant but the staff member asked me to talk to them. Unfortunately at that stage it was too late as their group had been drinking and refused to move the car understandingly but I believe if the staff had approached them when I arrived earlier that evening there was a better chance they could’ve moved the car- Anyway I believe the property should have a clear sign in that parking location advising that it’s for electric vehicle charging and for none electric vehicles not to park there perhaps to prevent this, as because of this issue I had to wait till the morning for the owner to move their vehicle and had to hang around the area for longer than planned just to get my vehicle charged.
Room was not too clean and there was a lot of dust on bedside table and objects on it so it needed a good dusting - the hallway leading the to room could do with change of carpet and some redecoration
- Jonathan (10/5): Excellent - Great friendly welcome. Clean well presented rooms. Excellent breakfast
- Suffolkpete (8/5): In all a pleasant stay in what was obviously a popular venue - Food was good, and the staff friendly and helpful. Service was efficient without being intrusive. Bottled water provided in the room and good quality tea and coffee. Retro style bathroom with a roll-top bath was attractive, but I found the lack of a proper shower inconvenient. Our room was in a separate building necessitating a walk to the restaurant in heavy rain.
- Jayne (7/5): -
- Philippa (9/5): -
- Leanne (10/5): - We love the Griffin often visit
- Ray (9/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): Fantastic place, will definitely visit again - Everything. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, especially the Manager, Ed. He went out of his way so we could charge our electric car Nothing
- Hurley (8/5): -
- Laura C (10/5): - Dinner was superb. The whole team were welcoming and the service and attention to detail appreciated.
- Gordon (10/5): Very good and would recommend it to a friend. - The building is full of quirky features and very comfortable . The t v is on the ceiling and you had to lay on the bed to watch it.
- Dave (9/5): - Breakfast was fantastic and food generally of an excellent quality Bed was a bit uncomfortable
- Julie (9/5): -
- Cate (8/5): Relaxing suited all our needs of what we wanted for a few days away - Proper village atmosphere busy and friendly
Lovely to sit and read with comfy noise around
Pretty - interesting - cosy N/A
- Emma (7/5): Nice stay - Staff nice.
Breakfast good.
Garden would be great in the summer.
Nice touch for dog treats, bowl & bed. Although an old building I do feel like the room is tired. It could do with a lick of paint and new carpet. This made it feel grubby and unclean. ☹️
- Jonathan (9/5): - Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Lovely village location. Felt the room was a little bit tired, in need of some decoration.
- Edwina Elsey (8/5): -
- Adam (9/5): - The view from the garden
- Glenda (10/5): Lovely - Lovely pub, lovely comfy rooms, beds for the dogs and doggie goody bags!!! What's not to like !!
- analise (9/5): -
- Nicholas (7/5): A l - Lovely old pub with friendly staff and a cosy bedroom. In a beautiful part of rural Sussex Bedroom a bit too hot, breakfast rather slow in arriving.
- William (10/5): A characterful home from home! - This is a characterful pub, fabulous restaurant and excellent hotel. The food was fabulous, the staff incredibly helpful and room exceptional. To top it all a lovely garden with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. We will return! Nothing.
- Tim (10/5): - The whole experience was fantastic rooms were great, and the food at dinner was excellent, and all of the staff were really helpful
- James (9/5): -
- David (5/5): Not up to Alistair Sawday’s standards and not value for money - Location was good, ambiance in the bar was very pleasant especially listening to pianist, staff were welcoming and the evening meal was well cooked and tasty. The room was nicely presented and clean. Communal areas tired and not clean. Carpets on stairs and landing leading to the bedrooms were very dirty and stained. The cold Breakfast item choices were poor, with limited availability of cereals and no prepared fruit. There was no toast provided unless specifically requested. When we asked for mixed toast it arrived as only white and burnt with no butter. The bed pillows were hard and uncomfortable.
- Nigel (9/5): Warm friendly service throughout - Old, atmospheric, authentic Nothing
- Steve (8/5): Lovely old inn with the most welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. - Olde world inn with a lot of character and lovely crackling log fires Room was quite small which made it very warm at night. Not much room for storing clothes. Some sort of more lounge like area (without dinning) would have been nice as our room wasn’t suitable for sitting as too small.
- LEE (7/5): -

- Andy (10/5): Excellent - Easy access to rooms good breakfast lovely pub garden
- Flint (9/5): -
