The best location for the Sassi, just on the edge so quiet and peaceful, but within seconds of the main streets of the Sassi. Private parking right outside the door available (€15 daily), incredibly easy to find. Excellent WhatsApp communication before and during stay, great recommendations for local food/drink and sightseeing. Room was beautiful and clean, with great amenities and complementary water and snacks. Upon arrival our hire car had a slow puncture in the tyre, handily he is a mechanic, and had it fixed for us within hours for €10 - the most generous and kind people, with a beautiful dog too!! There are only a few rooms, all pretty equal in terms of size and facilities, so if there is availability for your dates, do not hesitate to book this place - you won’t regret it!! Explained to us on a map where we were and how to get to all the points of interest, he was so helpful and very kind. Room was great, only stayed the one night and had everything we needed. The location of the room was perfect, less than a minute to the main part of Matera. Would recommend for anyone who is planning a visit.

He helped us by providing directions, helped with our car when it had issues and was great. The location is excellent, plenty of food options nearby and close to the city center. Non-italian breakfast options are very limited in the area, aside from that it was an excellent experience, fully recommended.

The owner Michelle was extremely friendly and nice. Gave us all the directions, as well as recommendations of places to go, see, and eat. A true great host. The accommodations at on the basic side, but well located to visit the old City by foot. It’s also very close to the main pedestrian area. We truly enjoyed our stay. It was a great value.

Upon check in he provided great details regarding the area including a map and ideas about the best route and must see areas of Matera. His love of the area made it even more special. Although there is a language barrier, the use of a translation app made communicating easy, informative and so interesting. We loved the location which was easy to get to and convenient to adventure through the Sassi area. The room was well appointed. Check in and check out was easy. Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat.

We could drive there and park the car up. 3 bedrooms with en-suite in an arch at his garage, cut into the rock. Loved Matera. A lifetime experience. Staying over is worth it, to see it all at night.

- Joseph (2/5): - There are 4 rooms in the b&b located in a converted garage. There are no windows. The only ventilation is from open louvered vents installed between the room and the hallway. The hallway is also part of the garage and has no windows for ventilation. The hallway has a common door entrance which is always closed. Therefore this place has bad ventilation and because of the louvered vents which CANNOT BE CLOSED you hear every thing in the hallway and in the hallway they hear everything in your room. No privacy whatsoever. I think the 9.6 rating of this property is gamed and false. Be aware if selecting this garage to stay.

He picked us up from the station, booked us into a tour of the Sassi within 90 minutes of our arrival and made sure that he was contactable at all times. The rooms are just on the edge of the Sassi with all the convenience of being easily accessible to everything. The rooms are small but very clean and functional. A fantastic city and an exceptional host.

- Michael (10/5): Nice B&B close to the old town of Matera - Great place, sort of underground, in the modern town center of Matera, just above the old city and the world-famous caves and rock dwellings. Michele is a very pleasant host and guides you down the narrow alley to the parking spot. The room was nice, clean, and modern and the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast (Italian style) was served at a local bar/resto just a few steps from the B&B. I’d stay there again if I happen to visit Matera again which I sure hope will be possible in the coming years.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Michele is a fantastic host. He came to collect us from the place where we had arrived and took us to the accommodation. I recommend you contact him prior to arriving to ensure you agree where to meet otherwise it would be difficult to find using google maps. Saying that the accommodation is perfectly situated very close to the main piazza and main sites. Michele also recommended and arranged a walking tour which was far cheaper than those I tried to book online. The accommodation is very comfortable and clean and the room is authentic and in keeping to what you want to see in Matera. Come to Matera and stay here!

The host, Michele, was wonderful and so obliging. Not much English spoken but you can get the gist of what he’s trying to communicate. The female staff spoke English very well.
