Guest Reviews
- R5203UImichellem (10/5): Delicious food and great service! - Really delicious and tasty food. The menu has a great range for all. My elderly in laws really enjoyed the beef and bacon and cabbage. If a very tasty stir fry. My husband enjoyed the steak sandwich which had a gorgeous salad with it. The kids portions are very generous and arrived first. Apple crumble with custard was so tasty! Coffees and strong and tasty too! Very friendly service and a real treat in Athenry! Highly recommend!
- NATALIE (10/5): - Convenient location right off highway, charming town. Staff friendly, generous and varied breakfast. Our rooms were comfortable, but very squeaky floors.
- Sinead (4/5): Disappointed - Very disappointed with room and especially en-suite, so small with a sliding door which didn’t give much privacy also lack of plug sockets. Pricey room for such poor quality.
- Companion51766365533 (4/5): Room was clean, but creaky floors, key not very secure. Staff was friendly. - Staff was friendly.room expensive. Room was clean.Creepy floors. Room key not very secure. Very old room. Food was good.very old sagging bed. Ok for one nite. Location handy to walk around the town. Their Duck is very well prepared and delicious. Can’t go wrong with the draft beer.
- paul (8/5): - Location was great. Bed in room 3 was an old mattress with a topper on top of it to hide the fact. Sank into the bed, very uncomfortable all night. Rolled into the middle.
Overall all the hotel is dated and carpets wearing thin in places.
Food, can’t fault it. Even meal was amazing and very reasonable prices. Breakfast was brilliant. Overall, I’d love to have not commented about the bed, sadly let the hotel down.
- robert (10/5): - Beautiful B&B with a wonderful breakfast.
- Candace (8/5): - Our host and her staff were very friendly and helpful
- Carmel (10/5): - Very good breakfast and dinner at their restaurant.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Lovely old fashioned downstairs with bar and where they serve a full Irish breakfast. It’s a very old building and the floorboards in the bedrooms creak and you can hear the people in the next room.
Interesting old town in someways and not at all touristy.
- Karen (10/5): - Wonderful food and owner is a delight!
- John (10/5): - Very good value, comfortble, welcoming small hotel / bed and breakfast. Covenient location for easy access to the motorways if working in the area.. Parking available with the hotel.
- WPandDP (10/5): Fabulous food and great service at New Park Hotel Athenry - We didn't stay at the hotel but we ate in the New Park Hotel on several occassions during our stay in Arhenry. Every time the quality of the food and the service was impeccable. 100% top notch. They do a roast throughout the week as well as on a Sunday so we had the roast beef, roast turkey and ham, roast salmon as well as pizzas, vol au vents and multiple starters. All absolutely beautiful and great portions. The guiness and pinot grigio was also 100%. Would definitely thoroughly recommend.
- T8561BDbethh (10/5): Very nice place - Food was amazing. Luke in bar made an excellent Old Fashion. All food service very kind. Ester helped with breakfast ❤️Beds were very comfortable. Didn’t get to check out pool and spa. Showers were odd to figure out knobs, but managed to safes nice in room.
- Brandy (10/5): - This was our favorite stay!! Everyone was kind, room was PERFECT. The bed was so comfortable, got the best sleep. The shower too was spacious and hot with changeable pressure! It had a downstairs bar/diner that had live music but could hear nothing in your room! Breakfast was also a banger! Lol Great find. The place was decorated in beautiful antiques and was full of charm.
- 48294RickW (10/5): Best Meal In Ireland - We only dined at the New Park Hotel and I'm so glad we did. Possibly the best meal I had in our entire Ireland visit! I had the Garlic Mushrooms followed by Roast Stuffed Duck and my wife had the Tempura Prawns followed by Chicken & Mushroom Volau Vent. The food was magnificent.
- Maurice (8/5): - Good parking. Good breakfast. Clean and convenient.
- Carey (10/5): - Absolutely loved this place. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Off street parking and a short walk to shops bars and restaurants. Free breakfast was great. This is everything we imagined an Irish guest house to be.
- valtango (8/5): Very nice - We were visiting Ireland with friends, and just because of the song wanted to visit Athenry, we booked to stay at Raheenwoods hotel which was a mistake, had we but known. After one evening meal there, we knew we wouldn't eat there a second evening, and were looking for a nice place to eat, and some locals recommended New Park. It was warm and inviting, we had a lovely meal in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, I feel sure this would also have been a better place to stay, if only we had known.
- Vincent (10/5): - Amazing property and fun small town vibe
- E Whitney (10/5): - What a quaint little house. So fun and the staff is wonderful
- JOHN (4/5): - Windows need cleaned
Cramped and cluttered reception area
No one obviously in charge
Cramped bedroom
Pokey shabby shower cubicle. Shower basin dirty looking with badly patched grout
Poor value for money
- Jason (10/5): Friendly staff and nice accommodations - The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. We were not able to get breakfast the first day as we had to be out of the hotel before 8 so that was disappointing. But the second morning we were able to take advantage of the wonderful breakfast. The location was great for getting into Galway. Highly recommend.
- Katie (10/5): - Amazing spot and food! It felt like being home.
- Erika (10/5): Amazing Athenry - My husband got horribly sick with a bug and the staff was wonderful and took fantastic care of us! They were amazing!!!
- Arminee (10/5): - Very pleasant stay, hospitable staff.
- Colette (2/5): Unable to gain access to property. - When I booked the hotel I advised them that it would be a late arrival and submitted two phone numbers in case they needed to make contact. On arrival the gate was closed and entry was not possible to park my vehicle. On attempting to contact by phone there was no answer. I had no choice but to continue to Galway to find alternative accommodation as I had an 08.00 appointment the following morning.
When a refund was requested as entry was not possible it was refused.
This stay was on a commute from Dublin to Galway for work purposes.
Extremely disappointing, I do not recommend staying at New Park Hotel Athenry.
- Bettystown54 (4/5): Disappointing visit - Our stay was only ok. It is clear this hotel is extremely dated. The creaking floorboards are really shocking and need to be addressed. But the main issue was the breakfast. We got two cold pots of tea. Only coffee available was black coffee. Food really really sub-standard. On arrival one staff member was very helpful & friendly. Then the following morning we saw one girl who was on her own doing rooms and serving breakfast. I felt sorry for her. Best thing about the hotel is the location. We only stayed one night and I was very glad. We won’t be back. Sorry.
- Sean (10/5): Convenient, Clean, & Caring - Had booked 3 rooms for weekend stay with family. Location is superb and in the heart of town. Check-in was straightforward and quick. Rooms are comfortable and clean, albeit possibly a little dated. Food was excellent for breakfast and dinner with a great range of choices to please everyone. The staff were extremely helpful and caring, especially when my elderly father took a bit of a fall. Would happily stay again & recommend for anybody visiting the area.
- Gisele (8/5): - This property is older, so creaky floors make noise. No elevator. Staff was super. Breakfast was very good.
.
- Aiveen (8/5): - Hotel is old style, has a family run feeling and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
- Craig C (10/5): - Great location
- Damian (10/5): - Vegetarian breakfast was excellent. Great shower. Very homely feeling. Staff very friendly.
- Christopher (8/5): Great Location - Really appreciated the early check in, had requested if possible and the room was ready.
Decent sized room with TV, tea, coffe and kettle.
WE had stated breakfast aat 10om, the latest time. We came down and 09:50 and the cereals were being cleared away, two other tooms came down after. A menue for breakfast would be good also just to see what items are available. They told us of a full Irish, a vegetarian breakast but we didn't know what was in these when we ordered. Great location and handy to have a free car park
- Gerard (10/5): - Lovely homely hotel good food would stay here again gave us keys to front door as we had a late function
- SANDRA (8/5): - Staff really friendly and room was fine although the ensuite was tiny.
Nothing major on the wrong side, but very dated and cluttered.
The breakfast was the worst thing, .no fruit, limted cerials and the full irish was the worst I have ever had, one overcooked egg, cocktail sausages, and 2 breaded meaty things that oozed fat.
No beans, tomatoes, mushrooms or anything vaguely vegetable. The bacon and black pudding was fine.
- CheshireDancingqueen (6/5): A place full of curios - Circumstances meant we were staying in Athenry for an extended period of time, I stayed here on my own for a few nights. It’s an interesting place, with a lot of personal bits and bobs dotted everywhere.
You can’t beat the welcome, warm and friendly. The bar staff are particularly good, Tom especially.
I stayed in a triple room, which was comfortable and clean although very dated. The floorboards definitely need attention, it was relatively ok when I was on my own, however when another couple stayed it the room next door, it was unbelievably noisy, it didn’t help that they also had the TV blaring. I had to ask to move rooms, which wasn’t ideal, although I did then manage a good nights sleep.
The food is pub grub, generous portions and to be fair, it’s tasty.
Regretfully I personally wouldn’t stay again, just too dated with too many personal bits in the breakfast room, under the stairs and in the corridors.
The owner was lovely, really friendly as were the staff. Just a bit too many cons and not enough pros.
- Gary (10/5): - Room was a cold but used the blankets provided so kept warm.
- Pat (10/5): - Clean and friendly
- Eamon (6/5): - bathroom was too small ,no room service
- vijay (4/5): - Staffs are really good. Except for that nothing is appealing about this place. If you don't have a place to stay and want to crash in for one night then this is okay to stay. There is no lock for the toilet, if you squeeze in a little you could fit yourself in the shower:( The Place itself is located in a prime locality where you have Aldi in a min walk and a good few restaurants and Tesco within 3-5 mins drive.
- Taylor (10/5): - We loved our stay at this b&b. It was adorable and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was also very tasty!
- Adrian (10/5): - Great spot with excellent bar.
- John (8/5): - Old style yet comfortable
- Sandra (8/5): - It would have been good to know that there was going to be a party with a DJ the 1st night we stayed there. Our bedroom was directly above the bar!
- Rose (10/5): Wonderful - New Park Hotel is a great hotel, staff are wonderful. The owner/chef is very friendly and makes sure that everything is to your liking. Breakfast is amazing. Bed was a bit soft for my liking but the room was large, wonderful bedding. Great water pressure in the bathroom. Lots of towels provided.
- Cathie (10/5): - Lovely staff! So personable. We loved the “emergency” waitress who came in to help serve in the bar/restaurant on Culture Day evening. What a gift to both customers & the hotel staff! Kind & helpful young woman at morning breakfast. We highly recommend this small hotel if you value friendly service & caring staff & owner.
- David (10/5): Lovely stay beautiful area - All good
Highly recommended
- Keith (8/5): - The property was clean, very quiet and “does what it says on the tin”.Athenry town itself is small but has all the main things you require.
- Holly (6/5): - The property was a bit worn down, with squeaky floors and thin walls, but the staff were lovely and friendly. Off-street parking was a plus.
- Tracey (10/5): - We stayed here for five nights - the staff at New Park were exceptional - always happy and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They made our stay very enjoyable. The Hotel has a family atmosphere.
- Gary (4/5): Not 4 Star - Definitely not a 4 Star Hotel, old and dated and some of the squeakiest floorboards I have walked on in room 5, although room 4 wasn’t far behind.
A wet towel was left in amongst the clean towels, water left in the kettle, 1 sachet of coffee in room, no milk, tho the was rectified after a visit to reception.
Good selection of cereals and juice at breakfast but no menu to select a cooked breakfast from.
- Thomas (10/5): - A definite recommendation! Friendly courteous staff. Clean rooms. Tasty breakfast. We checked in a little earlier than was expected and completely forgot when we were due to check out but we were met with a smile and told no problem. Gave us some good recommendations for places nearby to eat and how to get the train to Galway. You won’t regret it when you stay at New Park!! Two thumbs up… way up!
- Richard (6/5): If you get room 8 don’t bother - Generally a nice place on the ground floor, breakfast was fine. Once when you go up the old carpeted stairs and squeeze into room 8, table lamps don’t work neither would they with the old type pins. No way can you put 3 adults in this room. Then you see the en-suite, I have wardrobes bigger than this! The basin has no plug so you can’t wash in it. In fairness there is a large bathroom but no indication that room 8 can use it! No milk in room either I could go on but no point.
- Mark (8/5): - The property is in a truly historic town in its own right and a short drive into Galway town centre.
Very friendly and helpful staff, good menu and restaurant bar. Ample guest parking.
- Patrick (10/5): - Good Hotel
- Kelly Suzan (10/5): - What a welcome surprise to be nestled within such a friendly B&B that’s local to Athenry’s sites, eats and treats.
The room was perfect, the staff helpful and breakfast generous.
- Anne (10/5): - Cozy and comfy inn near dining. Staff was helpful, engaging, and efficient. Delightful stay.
- Michael (10/5): - Nice stay on our way back from the cliffs of Moher to Dublin. The New Park Hotel has the best brown soda bread....breafast overall was great. Nice rooms and nice for kids too. Thanks to the staff we had a great stay and a good rest! Parking right in the back/side. Assuming i am able to get that wsy again, i would stay again and also try to visit the old church ruins. God bless the staff!
- Melany (8/5): - The staff at the property were wonderful- so welcoming and helpful. It was nicely decorated to and our room was comfortable. The dining areas cozy and the food was good.
- Paul (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel has an old fashioned feel to it, but the people could not have been nicer.
- liamw656 (8/5): Breakfast not good - Very nice little place.very nice lots of the owners little ornaments all over the place.the breakfast was a big letdown, not good, needs lots of attention, otherwise clean .very nice staff .also the floors are very noisy upstairs needs attention.
- Ashley (8/5): - Staff was super friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Needed a last minute room and it did the trick.
- KayMac2022 (2/5): Over priced & bad value - Stayed one night in the New Park Hotel in Athenry. The price was €145, bed & breakfast for two which is one of the main reasons for the negative rating.
The hotel is old-fashioned, and quaint which would, in most cases, be charming, but not in this case. There are other hotels in the town which provide much better value & lower prices - unfortunately they were booked out.
The hotel appears to be staffed by inexperienced teenagers - the only staff we encountered were three very young looking individuals, trying to do their best, but lacking professionalism.
The bed room was large and the bed was comfortable. There was a truly enormous amount of wardrobe and storage space, but only one chair and no desk or table to use for working on a laptop. We liberated a chair and small round table which were hanging about in a hall way. There was only one bedside lamp which worked. The soap dispenser in the bathroom refused to dispense soap.
There was a tiny pedestal with a kettle on top - however the plug didn't reach the socket, so you had to boil the kettle on the ground. The kettle filter contained suspicious looking black specks which had to be cleaned out. It would have been nice to have some biscuits and a small fridge.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening - food was fine & not too expensive. The breakfast was just about ok. One of us asked for scrambled eggs and bacon, but was told that wasn't on the menu.
Athenry is an interesting medieval town, with a castle and heritage centre & well worth a visit. The New Park needs to either halve its prices or spend money on staff training and a major makeover.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Charming Hotel. - Unique boutique hotel. Tons of charm. Friendly staff. Very reasonable priced. Excellent breakfast. Cooked to order and to perfection. Our room I would say had been recently decorated. I would suggest they use different bedding as I found it uncomfortable. I would suggest they look at new beds. I think most people expect larger bed ( tall men especially) these days. I would certainly stay again.
- mary (10/5): A place of character, comfortable and value. - Very comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Great location. Breakfast fantastic. Good value for money.
- Colm (10/5): - Everything was perfect
- Lindafallon (2/5): Single room - I booked a room for my mother as she was attending a wedding nearby. She sent me photos of her room and I am not happy at all.
No proper bedlinen, no fitted sheet it was 2 sheets one for on top of the matters to cover the mattress and base of the bed and the other as a top sheet and towels were dark colour. All hotels have white towels not dark. Other friends who were staying got bottles of water in their room and milk ,my mothers had neither.
There was no bedside looker. My mother could not close curtain as there was a unit in the way. Where they had the tea and coffee it was sticky. Toilet and shower area was very small she could barely fit in there.
Room also was very small. I know it was a single room but single rooms I have stayed in have been big and comfortable.
Hostels would prove better accommodation at a cheaper price. I am very disappointed. I would not recommend this hotel.
- Lisa (8/5): Great service - Service was great and people were friendly. The place could use a facelift.
- Giacomo (10/5): - a grat care in all
- Ruth (10/5): Enjoyable stay, comfortable, nice helpful staff - We had a lovely time at New Park Hotel. Lovely friendly helpful staff. Food was nice. Hotel a little old fashioned but very comfortable and great price.
- G9445TDsylviab (10/5): Loved this hotel - This is such a beautiful hotel, we had the warmest welcome when we arrived and the owners and staff were so friendly and attentive. The rooms are spotless. The breakfast and lunch were delicious and the portions generous, we didn't have the pleasure of having dinner but the menu seemed to cater for all. I can't wait to try it on my return.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very bad - I was able to stay at this hotel as when I got there it was closed abs we had to sleep in our car, which was very dangerous as my husband has sleep apnea and needs he's machine every night but as we couldn't gain entry to the hotel he had to go without, I expect a full refund ASAP
- David (6/5): Bathroom was too small in room 8. - We arrived a little early but that was no problem, we where checked in straight away. Room 8 was our assigned room, I would say that the room was clean and adequate for our stay but when we looked at the bathroom we could not swing a cat in it but was clean except for the bottom of the shower unit which had some black mould on it.
We where very pleased with the staff who were very pleasant. Breakfast was the only food that we had at the hotel and it was very good. Overall we would say our stay was good except for the bathroom.
- Charlotte (8/5): Much better than expected. - This place was adorable. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent from the dining room for dinner to the breakfast the next morning. I highly recommend.
- Maria (10/5): Quaint and quiet - This hotel was a perfect starting point for our adventure in Ireland. The hotel is so cute and quaint. The rooms spacious. The staff is super accommodating and kind. The breakfast was BRILLIANT. We had a great visit at New Park and it was a perfect starting point for Galway.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the staff. Very friendly. Nothing a problem. Very homely
- Paul (8/5): - Nice hotel, lovely owners and staff, very pleasant and accommodating.
Food good and best chips in Ireland.
- mccready_r2d2 (10/5): Home away from home - I have been staying at the New Park Hotel every week since October 2019. I travel to Athenry every Tuesday night. Alicoque and her team have made me feel so welcome at their hotel - it's like my home away from home. I arrive quite late each Tuesday (after a 3hr drive) and I am always met with a smile at check-in. My en-suite room is always spotless and my bed is so comfortable - I sleep really well.
I am down for breakfast every Wednesday morning at 8am and again I'm met with a smile. There is a great varied selection on the menu for breakfast - every one as tasty as the next. I have arrived a bit earlier on a few Tuesday evenings and managed to have the pleasure of having my dinner here too - delicious! Also very generous portions and great value for money.
To recap, the service is fantastic, the food is delicious, the rooms are very clean & comfortable and the staff have the professional/friendly balance down to a tee! Staying here is certainly the highlight of my trips to Athenry!
- Janeet1987 (4/5): Ignorant Owner - I went here for an evening meal with my husband. Our food was delicious, I ordered the roast of the day and my husband had the steak well done which was lovely. I noticed there was a grey hair man behind the counter who kept staring at us as we were eating our meal. I felt uncomfortable by this and so did my partner. I mentioned this to a staff member and we were told he was the owner named Harry. I went up to the bar area to pay the bill (Harry) was quick to grab the money out of my hand but never even asked if I enjoyed the meal or thank me for my custom. I will never be returning to this place as a result of the ignorant manner we had to deal with from this man.
- Caroline (8/5): - The hotel is small and quaint and the location is good in the centre of Athenry. Food was very good.
Found the bed to be quite uncomfortable. Some parts of the room could do with an update but overall it's a pleasant place to stay.
- Laura (10/5): - Comfortable. Clean. And most of all friendly. It was like being in your friends house. Lovely and quiet rooms. Small but perfect. Breakfast was lovely. The owner ia simply lovely. I was up and off early and it was no bother. Definitely a perfect spot to atay wjen exploring the west of Ireland.
- 90sharong (10/5): Sunday Lunch - Had Sunday lunch with family in the restaurant, we were very impressed by the level of service. The wait staff were extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was fantastic and really good value for money.
- 243sr86 (10/5): Food - Second time in the New Park. Food was fabulous and so was the attention and service from the staff. Calm, relaxed atmosphere. When paying, we had to ask if the bill was correct because we couldn’t believe the value for money when we got the bill.
Highly recommend the New Park!
- Compass321539 (10/5): Christening party - We had a wonderful experience with New Park recently. We had a small party for our daughter 's christening and ourselves and our guests really enjoyed it, the food was delicious, the staff was attentive and looked after our party very well, we would definitely recommend it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely location ,would have liked a bigger room.but really fantasic and food excellent very cosy staff lovely
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautifully furnished large house type style hotel , delighted with our stay here. lovely full Irish breakfast. Large comfortable double bed. lovely staff. enjoyed our stay immensely.
- Mark (10/5): Great place to stay - Was a good stay. The staff was exceptionally respectful & helpful insincerity’s check in until we checked out. The food was amazing. Location is great.
- Sinead (8/5): Nice BxB - Food and service was excellent. Rooms a little small
- Govanhill19 (10/5): Excellent - We stayed at New Park for 5 days. It was clean, food was excellent and the customer service was brilliant. Staff very friendly and food quality particularly of a very high standard. I would recommend this hotel as it was quiet and relaxing and no noises at night from discos or street traffic. Tucked away in Athenry and is a great place to use if visiting the surrounding counties such as Clare, Limerick as motorway has cut travel times significantly. Well done all at Newpark
- Andrew (10/5): What a gem! - We didn't exactly know what to expect but it was such a cute clean and cosy family hotel with a great bar. I was with daughters so not looking for Neon, and we all loved it!
- Eilder (8/5): - Food was lovely, generous portions. Friendly staff.
- freds863 (6/5): Oldie worldie hotel - Walls were made of cardboard, floors creaked, toilet handle broke, plug in hand basin wouldnt come up.....you could moan all day about these tiny issues the fact is the new park is very welcoming and very good for food. Decor is some where between plush and pathetic, rocking horse with riding hat in the corridor, china cups hanging from the blinds. That is the character of the place, no airs no graces, excellent food comfortable rooms and a smile at reception, great for relaxing after a hard day at the races.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a lovely place to stay, very friendly and welcoming and nothing is to difficult to them if you have a problem.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice property right in the centre of town, off street parking also
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the staff, they where all so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was lovely and very quick to be served. The room was cleaned daily and it was cosy.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room was tiny four foot bed for a couple one of which is six foot. Tea and coffee making facilities no coffee no milk. Staff where fabulous.
- Happytouristtravels (10/5): Recommended 😊 - My family and I ate here recently as we were passing through the area. From the minute we walked in the door we found friendly, welcoming, efficient staff. As we had 2 babies and a child with us they quickly arranged high chairs and coloured pencils (which unlike other places, there was a fantastic choice of colours offered!)
We ordered a variety of dishes and can honestly say the curry, carbonara and brownie come highly recommended by our group. The food was delicious, tasty and filling. On leaving they also gave the child in our group a lollipop which was eagerly received!
Overall a fantastic service, brilliant staff and would definitely eat here again. Thank you!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Visited for 6 days for a family gathering. the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating.
The food was particularly good both the included breakfast and the excellent restaurant. One eve a dozen of my party( all relatives) showed up un-announced and the hotel opened another room to seated them right away.
