• O7389MKstevenp (10/5): A great place for AT hikers to stay. - My room was just what I wanted - comfortable and with every thing I needed. The breakfast was great. Hint to hikers - don't plan for lunch the morning you leave . You won't need it. Hosts were very pleasant to talk to and work with. They were willing to pick me up and drop me off whenever I requested.

• Dijuliac (10/5): My favorite stay in the Carlisle area! - Billy and Joanne are kind, caring people who are living their best lives. They put all their love into this B&B and into their attention to their guests. I stay here when I am in town for work and have found it the perfect place to rest after long shifts. Joanne makes delicious breakfasts with many locally-sourced materials, including vegetables from her own garden and eggs from their chickens. The property is gorgeous and includes beautiful sunset views over farmland, and there are so many trails close by, including the AT. My drive to UPMC Carlisle from their place is only 11 minutes and much preferred to the lodging options there. If you want to do some yoga while you are in town, their neighbor has a home studio and accepts drop-ins. Boiling Springs is just a few minutes away, which is my favorite little town in this area and includes a great lake with walking trails and a cozy cafe. Joanne and Billy have also been so generous with their knowledge of the area and recommending good hiking spots and other things to do on my days off. I've stayed in other places in the area, but this is my favorite. It feels immediately like a home away from home :)
• street-rod-sal (10/5): Enjoyable stay - We had a enjoyable stay at the Red Cardinal Bed & Breakfast. Joanne and Bill are fantastic hosts and make you feel so welcome. Our room was very clean and very comfortable. We had all the amenities you could ask for. Morning breakfast was delicious and filling. We stayed 3 nights and every morning it was a different and delicious breakfast. The landscaping and scenery is like a picture out of a magazine. Thank you Joanne & Bill for an enjoyable and comfortable stay at your beautiful home. Thank you Bill for your service.

• maryrA8744EZ (10/5): Hospitality at its best - To say this is the best bed and breakfast I have ever stayed at is an understatement. This is my second stay here within the last year. The room is very comfortable and spacious. The breakfast is amazing. I stayed for 4 days and had something new and unique each day. Fresh cookies and hot tea in the evening helped bring my long days to a close. The best part of this stay are the hosts. They treat you like family and legitimately care about you. I cannot wait for my next trip to visit. I might just have to create a reason to return!

• Neal (10/5): - Bill and Joanne epitomize what a great B&B is. They were so welcoming and such a joy to spend time with. The house was immaculate and the gardens were amazing. The location was perfect for us and was quiet and safe. We spent extra time with them before we left in the morning just talking like we were old friends. The breakfast that was provided was excellent and Bill makes an incredible server. Together they make a team that every one should try to emulate. We are planning to be back in the area in the fall and even if it doesn't work out that we can stay there we are going to try to stop by and visit for awhile. BiLL and Joanne are wonderful hosts...comfy ,clean room, porch to sit on, enjoyed the beauty of her flowers. Yummy, homemade breakfasts with items from her garden or local farmers. Attention to detail is awesome. Highly recommend!! Hope to be back in future. Cindy and Jay

• BizTraveler1999 (10/5): A must if you like BnB’s & are staying in the Carlisle area! - Just returned from a stay at The Red Cardinal Inn & loved it. Beautiful setting, quiet, great food and Joann & Billy were lovely hosts. If by chance we are back to Carlisle we will definitely stay again. We were only booked for one night due to availability (so we stayed at The Carlisle House the 2nd night & wished we’d stayed at The Red Cardinal Inn instead). We stay at BnB’s all the time and this was one of our favorites.
• Helene (10/5): Warm and welcoming bed and breakfast! - Billy and Joanne were amazing hosts and very welcoming of us into their home. Their place is spotless and Joanne’s breakfast is delicious. Bed was very comfortable and we felt very COVID safe because everything was so clean and they wore masks the whole time (per our request). Thank you for a great stay and we would definitely come back!
• David (10/5): Jan and Dave's fabulous weekend. - As we arrived we actually passed the Inn so we turned around and outside was our host Bill waving to us showing us where to park. He helped with our luggage into the Inn where we met Joanne our hostess. Bill showed us to our nice size room upstairs. We had a queen size bed and a nice view to the garden area. We had plenty of storage for our things. A nice size bathroom was also in our room, so we had complete privacy. The house was basically like a farm house, in pristine condition and very clean. But even with the great accommodations our hosts is why we enjoyed our little trip. You'll never find more friendlier people. They were always attentive to our needs. Joanne made two fantastic breakfasts for us and asked beforehand what we liked or didn't like. Bill and Joanne wanted our stay to be perfect and it was. We hope someday we'll see them again..
• G4222TEkathyo (10/5): Peaceful, comfortable retreat. - We recently spent a weekend at The Red Cardinal and highly recommend it. This is a lovely, peaceful, comfortable inn that is close to several fly fishing streams, which was one reason for our visit to nearby Boiling Springs. Hosts Joanne and Billy are so friendly and personable, providing helpful information on the area's sights, activities and dining options. Our breakfasts were incredibly delicious with generous portions. We truly felt welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
• Global47923566129 (10/5): We came as guests and left as friends - I highly recommend the Red Cardinal. Joanne and Billy are the most amazing and attentive hosts. The breakfast that Joanne serves is incredible and very filling. The B&B is situated between two farms that makes for a quiet peaceful retreat and is only five miles from downtown Carlisle. Joanne and Billy were very helpful and full of information in helping us to navigate the area. They also gave us great suggestions of things to do and places to eat. My husband and I have stayed at many B&B's but a stay at the Red Cardinal is like being welcomed into the family. We will be planning a return trip.

My boyfriend and I were driving our U-Haul to move from Atlanta to NYC and were looking for a comfortable place to stay halfway. I’m so glad that we found this hidden gem! The house is beautiful and Joanne and Bill are so thoughtful. We had a great time chatting with them and had a delicious breakfast. Definitely recommend staying here, we hope to be back!
• Tim (10/5): - Going to the Ref Cardinal is like visiting your favorite Aunt and Uncle’s house. Bill and Joanne have been doing this for a while and it shows. Joanne cooks up an unbelievable breakfast and both are great conversationalists. There goal is to make you feel like you are one of the family and I can say we truly felt that way. We had to visit Gettysburg College for our daughter’s XC meet which was only about 20 miles away.
• 165kirkj (10/5): A Great Day Off from our Appalachian Trail Hike - My daughter and I stayed here after our first 100+ miles on the AT. Joanne and Bill were incredible hosts. They welcomed us warmly into their home and hearts. We arrived in Boiling Springs pretty worn out. Bill picked us up in town and brought us back to their beautiful home. The accommodations are great - a big, comfortable room with a private bath. Joanne was kind enough to do our laundry. Bill and Joanne provided us with lots of advice and information on the area. We also enjoyed meeting Joanne's mother. In the morning, Joanne made us an incredible country breakfast -- including eggs from their own chickens! And then Bill gave us a ride back to the AT trail head, where we set out well rested and refreshed. Thanks again to our new friends Bill and Joanne.
• 130philf (10/5): Yes this B and B is Perfect (*****) - My wife and I stayed here this past Saturday. We were in the area for a family reunion in nearby Gardners, PA. The owners, Billy and Joanne, were very accommodating: We weren't sure when we would be returning that night from the reunion; their response was "no problem Joanne will wait up until you get in". We mentioned that we normally awake early in the AM and asked if we could get some coffee at that early hour; their response, "no worries, Billy is up early as well and will have coffee ready". This is the only B & B that we have stayed at, where, I couldn't finish breakfast; because, there was so much delicious food to eat. Don't be mislead by the Carlisle address (which is a high density suburb in the greater Harrisburg area); this B & B location is in the nearby beautiful countryside, a few miles outside of town. A very relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Joanne and Billy are two of the nicest and funniest people you’ll ever meet. Joanne’s amazing breakfast is second to none, and Billy and Joanne are so personable, we felt so comfortable and at ease. We also had the immense pleasure of meeting Florence, Joanne’s 100 year old mother, she is a truly amazing person. The Red Cardinal is nestled in the farmland and natural beauty of the Pennsylvania countryside and is absolutely breathtaking. As I promised Billy and Joanne, we will be back without question. Our stay with Billy and Joanne was one of the most memorable vacations we’ve ever had, Jenn and I thank you both from the bottom of our hearts. We will be back to get Billy in more trouble 😁
• drewchristiano (10/5): A Delightful Stay - After nine cold days on the Appalachian Trail, my wife and I were desperate for a home-cooked meal, hot shower, and comfy bed—all of which we got in spades at the Red Cardinal B&B. Our stay began with Bill picking us up at the ATC office in Boiling Springs and bringing us back to the adorable home he shares with his wife, Joanne, his mother-in-law, Florence, and their dog, Molly. Upon our arrival we chatted with Bill, Joanne, and Florence for a bit, gave Molly some much-deserved attention, and enjoyed some quiet on a bench across the street as the sun set, finally retreating to our bedroom for a shower and a good night's sleep. The next morning we woke to a delicious pancake and eggs breakfast with juice, fruit & yogurt, and the most delicious blueberry pound cake we've ever had—Joanne even gave us some to take with us, which was a welcome treat seven miles into our hike that day. While we ate, my wife noticed a Disney CD sitting near the stereo in the dining room and mentioned how much she enjoyed Disney music. Well, it turns out Bill may be an even bigger fan than she is, and the two of them chatted about their favorite Disney movies as "Hakuna Matata" played in the background. Before we left, they insisted on snapping a picture of us in our hiking gear to remember us by, a copy of which we got in the mail (along with a thoughtful note) a week or two later. We greatly look forward to our next stay at the Red Cardinal B&B, where Bill, Joanne, Florence, and Molly truly treat you just like family.
• daniellepN6512KP (10/5): Great getaway! - Joanne and Bill were great hosts - super helpful with recommendations in the area and incredibly warm and friendly! Felt like a home away from home. My boyfriend surprised me with a weekend getaway for my birthday - my first bed & breakfast experience. Their dog Molly is so cute as well! We loved her. Big thanks for the great stay. Recommend Red Cardinal to anyone looking in this area. We did some hiking around the area and went to Gettysburg one day. Today is my 31st birthday, and this morning they had a birthday banner, gave me some m&m's with a happy birthday sign, and sang happy birthday with a morning coffee cake! So sweet. Thanks again!
• Roshaiga (10/5): Perfect B&B near Carlyle - the real America - Had the pleasure of staying at the Red Cardinal. The hosts were great, the bedroom was perfect and the breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend. A few miles from downtown Carlyle located amongst farms with beautiful views of the surroundings. Perfect B&B for couples looking to disconnect and relax. The hosts were genuinely friendly and caring. The bed room was nice and private on the second floor. It was nicely appointed. Next time we are in Carlyle we will definetly return.
• joyced699 (10/5): September 2017 - This bed and breakfast is a must stay if in the Carlisle area. The setting of the Red Cardinal Bed and Breakfast is quaint, lovely and quiet. We sat on the back porch enjoying coffee, letting Molly, their dog, show us the chicken coop, and talking with Billy. The breakfast that Joanne made was delicious and elegant. The warm hospitality from Joanne and Billy is amazing. We will definitely return!

Meeting us when we first arrived (in rainy weather), Bill greeted us with an umbrella to protect us from the rain. Now, that is the ultimate in hospitality!! And Molly & Florence were an added bonus! We were so comfortable there, we didn't want to leave. The meals Joanne prepared were fantastic as well as delicious. The vegetable quiche and Bramapple Crisp was to die for!!! We enjoyed the many conversations and spending time with Bill & Joanne. We definitely will return and highly recommend this comfortable, homey and friendly B & B. Sincerely, John & Suzanne
