Lucia (8/5): - It is a charming older hotel with a great location on the square, especially if you’re spending more than one night and like to walk around the area and even eat at local restaurants. Their complimentary “self serve” Continental Breakfast was good and interesting as far as selections and there is a full restaurant/bar in the first floor area for later as well. Our room was clean, pleasant and comfortable with a couch, kitchenette and desk area that were not all jammed together. On the down side, our bathroom door didn’t close tightly for privacy, our mattress was lumpy and no one told us that our room wouldn’t be tided up and we wouldn’t get clean towels each day. We did ask for clean towels and they were delivered promptly. While our “down sides” are true and valid we would stay there again.

The beds are incredibly comfortable. And the staff are very hospitable & respectful. Love it all and will happily come back in the future!

For small towns in Iowa very frw have an original hotel built over 100 years ago is still standing and suprisingly nice. Service from restaurant can be great or sloe depending on whos working.

Verified traveler (8/5): Business trip in Centerville - This is a historic hotel in Centerville Iowa. It was very clean, had a desk area, and a small kitchen area. There was ample room to unpack clothes. The wifi worked great! There was a comfortable armchair in the room. During my stay, there were very few guests in the hotel. The floors squeak every time someone moves, and you can hear them from rooms away. The TV in my room had just been updated to a Roku TV, without any live/local or cable channel offerings, so I was not able to unwind with favorite shows in the evening. The bathroom sink is a pedestal sink, and some storage on a narrow shelf above the toilet. Getting hair and face care completed in the morning was a bit of a shuffle. Overall this is a decent hotel.

That was not a big deal, but the room must have been directly above the kitchen or a kitchen vent, because I always knew what was cooking. Ha. At least all the smells were good.

Sofa was just worn out, the seat cushions had leather pealing on both cushions. Bed was fair, could have used a better mattress, breakfast was poor, bottled OJ, Luke warm coffee, microwave selections only.

It is a very neat hotel with comfortable beds and rooms with all the amenities' you would expect in the larger chain hotels. This is a very quiet hotel and I highly recommend staying here. The restaurant is excellent, and the meals are fantastic. I highly recommend eating here! In closing, this is an excellent place to stay while in the area.

MARY (10/5): BEAUTIFUL!! Historic Charm, Modern Conveniences - Stayed here overnight. This is a gorgeous historic property with so much charm. There is a restaurant and bar/lounge on site, a grand staircase and an elevator, and laundry facilities. The hotel itself and the room were very clean. The room was VERY spacious and beautifully decorated. It had a kitchenette with full size fridge, microwave, and coffee pot, dinette and plenty of utensils, plates, mugs, glasses, etc. There were two complimentary bottles of water in the fridge upon arrival. The living room had a comfortable sofa, huge ottoman, nice wall mounted flatscreen tv, work desk and chair. The bathroom was bright, clean, had excellent water pressure, extra toiletries, toilet tissue and a hair dryer. The spacious bedroom was separate from the living area and had the most comfortable bed and linens I’ve ever had in a hotel. And there was an ENORMOUS closet with lighting. I literally could have brought my entire wardrobe including shoes, hats, handbags, and overcoats and still would have had room left over. There are multiple levels of hanging and built in shelving big enough to hold a big plastic tote filled with extra linens. We were very impressed with the way they have kept the charm of yesteryears such as crown molding, tall ceilings, long windows, beautiful woodwork, etc, but have added modern conveniences. We were so impressed with the hotel and quaint town, we’re planning to return and spend some more time here.

There was plenty of room for four of us, closets, a kitchenette, a very large living room and grand windows. We will definitely be staying here again!

Only reason we didn’t mark this as the highest smile rating was 1) Sat nt stay was loud w/ traffic around the square as that was the happening place to be apparently (thank you Continental for the earplugs), and 2) we had to ask for a coffee mug (to make 2) as there was only one in there upon checkin. Would stay there again on a weeknight to give it another shot if we are down that way again (3hrs away from home).

Angie (10/5): - This is a beautifully renovated 1800's hotel. It was more reasonable and had more amenities than some of the newer hotels we stayed in. Not only was it beautifully decorated, we were treated to free water bottles, a sink, dishes, a microwave. The staff was all very kind. The restaurant served great food and the staff there was also very kind. This was a hotel that my husband and I would definitely return to if we are ever in the area again. My only issue is that the air freshener was a little strong. It was a plug in one, so had I found it sooner I could have unplugged it for the night. Some people are very allergic to those scented plug ins, and sometimes the scent gives me a very bad headache.

Kathryn (4/5): - We love this place and stay there often. However, this last time we had two issues without resolution, our TV did not work and they did not get tit working. In addition, the air conditioner is extremely loud in a very small room. The cost of the queen rooms should be lowered to reflect the amount of space. We typically stay in a king room and we’re very surprised how small the queen room was and that is was similar in pricing. Lastly, a suggestion would be to have some type of loyalty program or even just recognition by the staff for guests who stay often.

TV channels somewhat limited but the decor and comfort of the bed and beautiful walk-in shower overcame any other shortfalls. The lobby bar is beautiful, and the turn of the century feel of the lobby is appealing. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Being on the quaint town square was a plus although, like most rural communities, shopping was pretty limited. We come here to visit family several times a year and would certainly book the Continental again.

My daughter and I both commented that we'd love to come back when there is not a blizzard and we can appreciate the other historic buildings around the town square.

Mirinda (10/5): - It was a unique experience with the building and how well its kept up. I do wish their were more dining close by, especially breakfast with real meals.
Mitchell (10/5): Perfect quiet getaway. - Great low key laid back get away. Great little shops and restaurants in the area. Hotel was beautiful, staff was courteous and attentive. It was a perfect easy couples getaway spot.
Tina (10/5): - Beautiful, historic hotel with lots of charm and style. We have wanted to stay here for years and were not disappointed when we finally reserved a night's stay. Quiet, super comfortable and nice amenities. Highly recommend.

Conrad (2/5): - The hotel was pretty. The info on Expedia regarding the check in times and breakfast were not accurate. When we got there, the whole place was locked up and desk staff had gone home. There was one person leaving (bartender perhaps) who said that the front desk staff still should have been there as our reservation was ‘on the list’. Thankfully she let us in. Breakfast was supposedly included. It was a basket with Rice Krispie bars, nutty bars, packaged mini donuts and one way over ripe banana. We were offered coffee to drink, but nothing else. No water, orange juice, etc. the attitude of the morning staff seemed to be that we were interrupting them.
Jennifer (10/5): - The property was so quaint and rooms were surprisingly big. If I had any complaints it would be the view out our room which was just of the roof. Otherwise, everything at The Continental was perfect!!
