We were treated like special guests. The view was spectacular and the room exceedingly comfortable.
- Kristen (10/5): - This property is amazing, hands down our favorite hotel of the trip. The restaurant was not only delicious but so kindly accommodating of allergies - be sure to give them at least a day's notice though. All the public spaces are so cozy and welcoming. Our third floor room did get a bit stuffy in unseasonably warm weather, with one window that didn't open much, but they allowed us to move to a room with much more airflow. A minor complaint in an otherwise perfect stay. We not only would come back, but will make the effort to come back and stay here again.

If you want peace and quiet, walking paths and spectacular scenery in a beautiful area of Iceland and don’t mind having only one option for dining, small weirdly appointed rooms, a closet sized bathroom and no hot tub, sauna or other facilities you might be ok. Very expensive dinner which was only ok (over cooked filounder was the low point of a small manu. A final negative was a $35 charge for a marginal buffet breakfast. A big disappointment dying an otherwise amazing 10 day trip in Iceland.

- Bill (8/5): - This was a lovely hotel- very expensive- however: One of our 4 rooms was a studio with a ridiculously small shower that was smaller than a cruise ship shower and upon checking out we realized the bill was wrong- they said there was a happy hour but when we checked out the prices weren’t 40% off after all. No apology or “how can make that right for you?” Or let us deduct the first few drinks or anything to make up for the errors. Toilet paper was rough and the toilets/showers on the floors above flushed right near our heads and were loud. Certainly not $500 a night caliber in our minds.

- Joseph (10/5): - Many thanks for another wonderful stay at Hotel Buðir. Best location on the Snaefellsnes peninsula, spectacular views in every direction. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed with amazing views from every window. Either you're facing the mountains or the sea, or both. Best part - Hotel Buðir has the best bed linen and pillows of any hotel I've visited to date. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They went out of their way to ensure I had the best possible experience. Most importantly, the restaurant. The restaurant at Hotel Buðir is legendary for good reason. The menu showcases seasonal Icelandic cuisine, it is paired fown to the essentials. They offer both à la carte, and tasting menu (3 or 5 course). IMHO, the cuisine at Buðir is on par with any Michelin starred restaurant. The dinning room service is efficient, attentive and well informed. Don't miss the breakfast buffet, well curated- nobody goes hungry. Looking forward to my next adventure at Hotel Buðir.

- Adrienne (6/5): - I think this hotel is massively overrated. The food was average, and breakfast was low end and very expensive. The immediate grounds around the hotel are shabby and in disrepair. Our “superior” room lokked out over the trash dumpster and construction garbage. Active hammering and sawing woke us up at 7 am. I would never stay there again.

The only minus was that our dining experience was not up to the standard that the rest of the hotel represented. 3 of us had the fish and it was dry and overcooked. One of us had the lamb and it was mostly fat. When we told the waitress, she shrugged her shoulders and offered us an extra napkin… I would stay here again, but I would plan dinner somewhere else.

We stayed in the newer section and it was lovely and pampering. Food was excellent and there are plenty of gathering spaces. Definitely recommend it.

- Andrea (10/5): - Where do I start! Every detail of this hotel made such an impression on me and my husband. It is perfect in every way. The staff was wonderful, the dining was such a highlight (best drinks in all of Iceland - and we travelled far and wide), the room… INCREDIBLE! There was a magic to the experience that I simply cannot describe. In the morning, while I let my husband sleep in, I walked to the shore, watched a few harbor seals play, wandered along the sheep paths, and just enjoyed the beauty of the area. We cannot wait to return to stay here!

- Amit (8/5): - Really nice boutique hotel near Barnafoss in the Snaefelness Peninsula. Stayed in a loft room. Fairly small and the tub/shower is very poorly designed. Half the tub has a raised platform intended to be a seat, but it is difficult to shower in just one half and exit. I would not recommend this room to anyone that has difficulty with balance. It has one restaurant with a very limited menu. If you’re here multiple days you should find somewhere else to eat at night for variety and cost. The bar is nice and has great views and a good selection of whiskey and gin. Again both are expensive as you’ll find throughout Iceland. Service was about average here.

It is located in a majestic setting with many open common spaces on the ground floor to sit and read or have a drink with floor to ceiling windows and glacier topped mountains and lava fields as your background. BUT the room (loft room) needs updating. Bathroom poorly designed. And the room and bedding smelled very musty. There is a skylight but no window to open and air it out. The dinner option is very expensive with very small portions. The breakfast on the other hand was amazing - best I had in Iceland.

- Christina (4/5): - The hotel is quite rundown, with old, squeaky floorboards in the room. The elevator was out of order during my stay, and the window in my room wouldn't open. The bathroom fan didn't work either. If you're looking for a quick stop, you'd be better off driving to your next destination for more lodging options. Additionally, there is no designated parking, only a gravel and dirt lot.
- Natalia (8/5): - This is a beautiful getaway hotel removed from everything else — tucked away in a remote little piece of Iceland where you can wake up to birds singing and the sound of crashing water. Everything has clearly been recently renovated: the beautiful rainfall showers, huge LED-lit mirrors, comfortable beds, balconies, bar and lounge areas, etc. The staff are wonderful, too — as is the breakfast. Down side is that this is remote indeed, so your only walkable eating option is their restaurant — and it’s just not good for dinner. We asked our server what she recommended, and she said the veggie dishes because she’s a vegetarian. Ok cool… maybe that WAS the right choice, because we paid $50-60 each for 2 tiny pieces of lamb, an overdone super-thin piece of “medium-rare ribeye,” and a dry piece of cod. We paid less than that for better food in Reykjavik, so it’s not just sticker shock in Iceland.

The hand soap, shampoo, and body wash provided had a strong scent so those who are sensitive may wish to bring their own.

We ald had dinner here after a long drive, very nice and fine cooking. Location is great for photographs as it is far away from everything.
- Richard (10/5): - I have stayed in Budir several times over the years and remain really impressed by it. The food is very good and the setting is truly stunning. The hotel has been expanded, and I stayed in one of the newer rooms, which are nicely done.
- Ira (10/5): - Expensive and they charge a lot for breakfast. Unfortunate as there is no other option. But, the hotel is great and the food (esp dinner) was excellent. 2nd time staying here.
- John (4/5): - Hotel Budir looked like the perfect spot to spend the last two days of our Iceland vacation. The lobby and lounge areas are very attractive, and the dining was very good. Our room, though, was a true disappointment, and the price we paid was absurd for such poor lodgings. Every light fixture in the room had some kind of problem - one had exposed wires, one had a discolored lampshade, and one had a pull chain that was previously repaired but still didn't work. The bathroom door was made of cheap particle board, was missing a handle, and had a huge chunk torn off at the bottom. The bathtub was designed in such a way that you only had about 1.5 square feet to stand in - the smallest of any hotel I stayed at in Iceland. The sink was similarly tiny, and you had to stand sideways between the sink and the toilet to be able wash your face or brush your teeth without hitting your head on the glass shelf placed immediately above it. The worst part was the window, which leaked very badly. There were strong winds when we stayed there, and we could hear/feel the wind whistling into the room. Our heater was broken and only put out a tiny amount of heat, so the room was extremely cold for both nights. Additionally, you had to cross a rooftop area in gale force winds and snow to access rooms 301-305. Did it ruin our trip? No. But it was more akin to a cheap roadside motel than a $250/night room. It was both the most expensive and worst room we had on our 16-day vacation. Very disappointed.

We had an excellent dinner at the hotel restaurant and ate breakfast at the hotel both mornings. Great buffet selection and views from the dining area. Loved our stay and would definitely come back.

- Susan (8/5): - It’s a beautiful setting and the inside is attractive and comfortable (though some of the seating in the lovely bar area needs replacing or refurbishing). For a hotel of this supposed quality, and certainly for the cost, I was very surprised there wasn’t lotion in the room, and that coffee and tea weren’t available without paying extra.

- Nicholas (10/5): Beautiful hotel! - This is a beautiful hotel on the coast. The rooms are very nice with incredible views. The bar lounge is super cozy! We would definitely stay here again.
- Ryszard K. (10/5): Wonderful getaway to Northwest Iceland - Beautiful little hotel in the middle of nowhere in Snaefellsness Iceland. Just a little bit of driving away from the national park, beautiful Hellnar and Arnarstapi, and the north part of the peninsula. The hotel had a lot of character, with friendly staff, good restaurant, and even some hiking trails right outside. The room and bed were comfortable and well-supplied. Finally, the vibe was great. People actually gathered in the several common areas in the afternoon to have drinks and hang. I'd stay here again.

- Susanne (8/5): - Very nice location, staff was very friendly made you feel at home. The room they initially showed us was so small one person had to crawl over the other to get out of bed in the morning, asked for a room upgrade and that was OK.

- Meaghan (4/5): - We had an extremely mediocre stay at Hotel Budir. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous and the views from the lounge and lobby were exceptional. Upon arrival, we noted that our room was stuffy and the mattress very uncomfortable, but we were willing to overlook these small inconveniences because the location really couldn't be beat and we were excited for a gourmet dining dining experience. Unfortunately, the hotel restaurant and our dinner there was absolutely appalling. Our waiter was incompetent and seemingly confused the entire evening. We found both the bar menu and dinner menu to be very strange, the staff unhelpful, and the food bland and improperly cooked. As Gordon Ramsey would say, "What a shame"

- Craig (4/5): - This Hotel (1 of 6 we stayed in over 12 day trip) fell well short of expectations. Overpriced and underwhelming in spite of its own opinion of its worth. Food was even more expensive than the usual high prices and we only ate there once. Fish dishes (original and replacement) were poor to say the least. The room had a double bed crammed against one wall sideways, and between the window ledge and wall, and had we been any taller would have been hopeless. We were happy to have old historical trinkets through the hotel but basic facilities such as bed, hairdryer etc, must be modern for the price paid and were not. Breakfast mediocre and NOT included in the price as a rule but charged extra at circa GBP 15 per person. The hotel clearly benefits from a captive audience and lack of local competition, together with a unique and picturesque location but seems focused on wedding parties using the nearby quaint church, meaning that 'ordinary' guests felt rather overlooked. We would be very reluctant to stay again if there were other options available. We had expected quirky 'boutique' but it was more like 'lost in the past'. A missed opportunity and a real shame.

- Lauara (10/5): - The setting of the property is worth seeing even if you can't stay at the hotel-it's that beautiful! We had a corner room- out one window we could see seven waterfalls, out the other window we could see waves crashing onto the beach. The only improvement would be to add self serve coffee in the lobby, or bar in the morning. I like a cup of coffee before breakfast.
