Guest Reviews
- Steven (10/5): Great landing pad for adventures in Sydney - Great location close to transport and lovely king st Newtown Shared bathroom not ideal, but ok
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sahn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasha (8/5): Wholesome, warm and a fantastic location! - The staff were all lovely and helpful! The meals were very filling and delicious as well. The hotel is situated in the best location for restaurants, bars, vintage shops and public transport! The only thing slightly negative I can say about the place is that the room was a little smaller than anticipated compared to the pictures, but it was still a great room!
- Peter (10/5): Pleasant, comfortable and clean. - Everything was great Nothing could be better
- Steven (7/5): Good -
- Bill (9/5): Superb - Nicely styled room with comfortable bed and furniture. Walk downstairs for great pub food and atmosphere. Or room service if desired. Right on King Street for great variety of old fashioned high street shops and diverse restaurant offerings. Not much water pressure in the shared bathroom.
- Michael (9/5): End of king street accommodation - Lovely room which is what we wanted just on the bottom of king street and in walking distance of newtown.
Easy to access and friendly staff for the pub below. It met expectations!
- Daizy (7/5): Good - The location & also ordered the cauliflower dish off the menu and it was the best cauliflower dish I’ve ever tried. The room we booked was quite dark which gave it a dingy feel, it could definitely do with brighter lighting. All the cleaning is done with strong bleach so there is a strong smell of bleach in the kitchen, corridor & bathroom that isn’t super pleasant. I think it either needs to be diluted more or something else should be used.
- Breeanna (8/5): Very good -
- Eadie (5/5): Decent stay - good location but shared bathrooms are not it - Bed was comfortable and the room size was fine for my needs. Location is great, close to excellent food options, public transport and Sydney Park. The shared bathroom facilities were gross - smelly and there was a bottle on the floor of the shower my whole stay, which means it wasn't cleaned. This is gross.......
- B (7/5): Good - Given the unusually hot (39deg) day it wasn’t the best to have the only option of having the unscreened window opened to the train line. There was a fan.
- Alison (8/5): Good location - Little touches like the nuts and water and the ear plugs (had forgotten my own so saved me having to buy). Courteous staff. Good location to enmore theatre and food. It rained heavily overnight and the windows leaked, so my only pair of socks go drenched. Bed a bit saggy but still slept.
- Lkhagvadorj (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tony (9/5): Superb - Great old hotel with very spacious and classy rooms. This is my second stay at the Sydney Park and I will be using again. The location is great and next to a train station. No air-conditioning. So a bit stuffy if the weather is going to be really hot.
- Michael (8/5): Will absolutely stay here again. - Clean and comfortable, great staff, easy access and convenient location. Highly affordable. Shared showers (2) and toilets (1) probably get busy in peak times, but this wasn't an issue for me on this stay.
- Zain (8/5): Very good - Rooms were cosy and comfortable. Despite the pub being downstairs and right next to the train station, noise was never really an issue.
Location was great for access to Newtown and the train station was right next door too.
Kitchen facilities were great too. Hot water in the showers wasn't great.
- Jolayne (8/5): Very good -
- Louise (8/5): Very good - Location No aircon.
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaw (1/5): Bad -
- Nikki (10/5): Exceptional - Good value for Sydney and great access to public transport and the inner west. Staff are always helpful and the rooms and shared facilities are always clean
- Crystal (9/5): Superb -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maisie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Prashan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerry (9/5): Brilliant, can’t thank you guys enough. - Nothing to dislike- everything to love. Great location, authentic pub stay, so glad they are still possible. Staff are marvellous - wonderful location; fabulous bathrooms; clean comfortable city-scape rooms. Loved everything, Will definitely return.
- Fergus (7/5): Good - Classic old art deco pub. Shared bathroom. Manager was lovely considering how well worn we were from a night out. Beautiful big room. Door return mechanisms need attention. Not our room but banging doors down the hall loud early in the morning from other guests. I'm sure they'll fix this on reading this as it's an easy one. Otherwise loved it.
- Stephanie (9/5): Superb -
- Patterson (4/5): Disappointing - The bed was comfortable Bathroom old, only 2 showers and one toilet for the whole floor, far too expensive for what you get
- Tracey (7/5): Good - Clean comfy and quiet The room was hot so hard to get to and stay asleep
- Erin (10/5): - Awesome quirky old pub hotel. Clean, friendly staff and great location.
- Del (10/5): - Thanks nice fireplace feature
- Scott (8/5): Very good -
- Ashleigh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gail (8/5): Great location, wonderful coffee shop just steps away. - It's above a pub, but it's really well insulated and you don't hear a thing in your room. And the pub is great! Good food, good ambience. Room is super clean and comfortable. Be prepared for some traffic noise from the street.
- Clarisse (7/5): Good -
- Yueh-chen (5/5): Suitable for low budget people, but not appropriate for people with health concerns. - The location is good, close to train and bus station. The bathroom is old and has weird smell. The toilet get stuck easily. There is no aircon in the room. The ceiling fan makes me allergic maybe due to the dust mites, the floor fan is noisy and has a timer which can only work for 1 hour. you need to reset it hourly. We lived there for 2 nights but only got one bottle of water in the room.
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Funda (9/5): Superb -
- Kayla (8/5): Very good -
- Graham (8/5): far better than other pubs I have stayed in, shared facilities were clean - Good sized room, comfy bed, excellent location to Newtowns busy bars and restaurants nothing it was great
- Jacqueline (10/5): Gem of a find - value for money - The rooms were neat and comfortable, the staff were friendly and happy to answer any questions and the location was ideal (right next to a train station). N/A
- Gary (7/5): Great location in Newtown right next to station and Sydney park -
- Susan (1/5): Bad -
- Mark (9/5): Really good pub accommodation in a great part of Sydney. Recommended. - Great pub accommodation at the far end of South King St, Newtown. Very large room with a clean and functional shared bathroom and useful shared kitchen facilities. Full pub with all facilities (drink, food, screens) downstairs and very friendly staff. Local to all that King St. has to offer and St. Peters train station (easy access to city) directly across the road. Not much to fault provided the price works for you. Everything felt secure and safe. Everything very good. Room was a little late in availability. The reason (sounds like a once-off) was explained and I was offered a free drink while I waited. Not a big deal and well-handled by the staff member involved.
- Glenn (8/5): Very good -
- Seguin (8/5): Great for a short stay - The room had everything we needed, and the bed was clean and comfortable. The soap amenities were great, and the water and little snacks were a nice addition.
Staff was incredibly friendly and very helpful. We felt welcome from the first moment.
The shared kitchen was well equipped to make a meal if we wished and was kept clean.
The key deposit box for an early check-out was also a good addition.
Proximity to the train station was a really big plus! The bathroom was not as clean as I would have hoped, and there was quite a bit of mold on the walls. The window in the bedroom couldn't be locked and was wide enough to be climbed through. It was also accessible from the bathroom window, so I didn't feel safe leaving any of my items in the room while I went out.
- Lucy (7/5): Good - A really great alternative to the city. Walking distance to Enmore Theatre, which was why we were there. Fantastic staff. Great pub downstairs. And the vintage pink ladies bathrooms! :-) It was a really hot summer night, the fan wasn't really enough.
- Aadhya (8/5): Very good -
- Dylan (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Maximilian (8/5): Very good -
- Manas (8/5): Very good - Decent stay for a night. Really needs air conditioning in rooms it was burning hot.
- Sammut (7/5): Good - The location Only one toilet when they can install another toilet and a shower instead of the bath, in the shared bathroom
- Carmen (7/5): Average - Decor in the room No air conditioning
Bathroom was out dated
- Jess (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (10/5): - Would stay again. Great experience.
- Connor (10/5): - Loved it all. Beers in the room. Close to Enmore, doesn’t get much better
- Damien (10/5): Exceptional -
- Snipertronix (10/5): Exceptional - The room was super clean and comfy was perfect for my one night stay Location was ideal right next to St Peters station only few stops to the city
- Nadine (8/5): Value for money, cute pub. Clean and would stay again. - Great location, super friendly staff, very clean shared amenities and room. Would stay again for sure.
- Saija (5/5): passable but wouldn’t go again unless they have better rooms with aircon - The staff was very lovely and the decor was cute The cleaning wasn’t that great there was dust even on the table, the room was way too hot without an aircon and people could see to my room from the toilets.
- Soumya (8/5): Great for a budget hotel. - For a budget hotel, it’s great. Very clean and good facilities (Inc access to shared kitchen), as long as you don’t mind sharing the bathroom. This is also kept very clean. Necessary ammenities all provided - including ear plugs, that was a nice and helpful touch. Although there is a pub right underneath, you don’t hear it. You can come and go as you please at any time, there’s a separate entrance with key for the hotel guests. Just personal preference, but the room was very stuffy and on a hot day we couldn’t cool it down. The whole upstairs of the building is very hot - just the way it is for an old building. We had the window open but then you hear the train tracks (which are right next to the hotel) and street noise. All in all, if the heat doesn’t bother you, it won’t matter but we found it uncomfortable to sleep in.
- Daniel (8/5): Cool pubstay in the heart of Newtown - Friendly, helpful staff.
Perfect Newtown location.
Handy train station next door.
Excellent bathroom.
Super clean.
Comfy beds!
Good pub downstairs can't be heard from upstairs. On the main road by the station makes it very, very loud with a window open (needed on a warm day).
The earth-shaking door springs. Bathroom and bedroom door springs need adjusting for a quiet close and peaceful stay.
- Adam (3/5): Needs air con in room. - Clean. Good size room Extremely hot in room. No air con, couldn’t sleep due to heat
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Hugo (1/5): Bad -
- Kim (9/5): Superb -
- Rudi (10/5): Good comfy accom in a great spot. -
- Leonie (7/5): Good accomodation at a reasonable price for inner Sydney. - Location was perfect for us. Facilities were good- bathroom up the corridor. Bathroom was clean. Didn't have to wait to use shower. Bed was comfy. Staff were lovely and helpful. It was a hot day and there was no air-conditioning. We opened the windows and there were no fly screens. Overhead fan worked well.
- Luke (5/5): Passable -
- Peter (1/5): Bad - Nothing but a dark place . And rude spineless people my money was good enough for day
- Vladimir (7/5): Good -
- Kirkland (8/5): Very good -
- Sue (8/5): Perfect for what we needed, very clean and exactly as described. - It was exactly as described, the room was very clean and had everything we needed. The bathrooms and kitchen were also very clean and well maintained. Bed was comfortable and a great location. Good value for money. The weather was extremely hot and humid when we stayed, so no air conditioning was a bit of a struggle. The ceiling fan with the window open made it bearable during the night, but if you're sensitive to noise it may be hard with the open window. We aren't, so it was fine.
- Jean (8/5): Very good -
- Rosie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pramu (9/5): Superb -
- Scott (6/5): - Staff were very nice and welcoming.
Room has a ceiling fan but still got quite hot at night in Summer.
- Josefina (9/5): Superb -
- Sharon (10/5): Perfect overnight stay to experience King st Newtown - Great old classic pub accommodation, oozes character
- MARINO (8/5): - Service was excellent. Lance, the manager even went out of his way to provide us with the much needed adaptor for our chargers as our phones were already low on battery.
Highly recommended!
- Selena (8/5): Very good -
- Penny (6/5): Great place to stay. Just not on a hot humid day with no breeze. - Conveniently located near the train line. It was stinking hot! There’s no aircon and no way to cool the room down without leaving all the internal doors and windows open. Which you can’t do.
- Murphy-tess (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were so friendly and accommodating, also perfect location.
- Romy (7/5): Good value and functional. - It is centrally located and good value for money. Bar staff were kind and friendly. I didn’t like that the doona wasn’t properly encased. It was just in the middle of two sheets, meaning you could see how sweat stained it was. The restocking aspect of cleaning was a bit haphazard. The whole time I stayed there, the hand wash in the shared bathroom was empty. The toilet paper ran out and there were no spares so I had to go down to the bar to request more. My room had an empty bar of soap wrapper when I arrived, so I would say the attention to detail is just not there.
- Mardi (10/5): excellent accomodation for the price - this place is more thank enough for the price they charge..we had a
slight issue and they were responsive and gave us a meal as compensation, which felt generous.
we have stayed her before and will stay again…
- Rhiannon (10/5): Great for a short stay in Newtown. - Great located in Newtown. And great value for money. Would stay again! Can be noisy on the streets below but the property provides earplugs.
- Aldo (10/5): Great Pub Accomodation - Great Pub Accomodation 😃 Always like to stay stay there when going or coming from the airport!
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ellie (8/5): Very good - Very clean, great location. Loved the old style bathroom with nice big showers. Nice pub! Great room. This place would be a 10 if it weren't for the heat in the room. Extremely hot inside the room and for some reason the ceiling fan didn't help at all. We had the window open all night and it didn't change the temperature in the room at all even when it was quite a bit cooler outside. I would absolutely stay here again in winter.
- Maralyn (9/5): Superb -
- Maralyn (9/5): Superb -

- Chelsea (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suzanne (10/5): I'll be back! - This pub stay was awesome. Loved the bar, food, staff, room, bathroom, kitchen, location - everything! The whole place has such a good vibe and it was great value for money.
