Guest Reviews
- Jean (10/5): Truly exceptional. - I liked the place a lot anyway, but while hiking on the day of arrival, I had a fairly disabling injury, and the owners were absolutely amazing in their level of personal care and help.
I cannot rate them highly enough, and I wish them very well in their plan to cater especially for hikers and other outdoors people: I'm sure they will be exceptional at it. There was nothing I didn't like.
I think they are to close temporarily for refurbishment to advance their plans, but whenever they reopen, I'm sure they will be worth waiting for.
- Marsalie (10/5): Gorgeous little hotel with the friendliest welcome you’ll ever get! - The Kirkmichael hotel is a beautiful family-run hotel and they gave us such a warm welcome. They looked after us like we were royalty! The rooms are very comfortable and we slept brilliantly. They are well-equipped for hikers too. We got two delicious meals from a varied menu and also enjoyed a whisky from the great selection! Kirkmichael is a lovely village and they are very friendly.

- Jon (6/5): - Friendly and helpful staff More attention to the hoovering needed...And sash windows need repair..
- Lynne (8/5): Generous hospitality snd a warm welcome - The location was perfect as we were doing the Cateran Trail and ended Day 1 in Kirkmichael. We used the bar and ate in the dining room as well as staying overnight. The hotel is owned and run by a family who could not have been more hospitable or generous during our stay Some areas are a little “tired” but this did not impact negatively on our day at all
- John Deegan (8/5): - Beautiful location and just off the Cateran trail. Great service to the local community but a wee bit tired and would benefit from some TLC. Mattess very soft, and shower not great. Would have liked a cooked breakfast which is now continental. I have stayed previously and had a cooked breakfast.
- Benjamin (7/5): -
- Emma (9/5): Great old fashioned pub hotel - Good old fashioned pub hotel. Great sized room and nice touch to have amenities available outside room (water toothbrush etc). Massively autism friendly as noone blinked at all at our son having a wee meltdown. Breakfast a wee bit chaotic but we were very early risers. Not for people looking for modern and slick- it's old fashioned and honest.
- Ostrowska (7/5): Nice scottish place, but not very clean - This small town is really cute and quiet. We felt the scottish soul and vibes. People were welcoming. Checking in without any problems At the first sight the rooms were ok: towels, sheets and glasses were clean. But the bathroom, the walls and the carpet were dirty. The outlet was torn off-not very safe.
Breakfast was okay-but all cold, it would be nice to have scrumbled eggs or sausages additionally.
Niets!
- ANN (9/5): - Very clean, friendly and good food.
- Gerald (8/5): A good small/ dog friendly hotel - Met by the owner as we parked ther car, checked us in quickly, then showed us facilities and took us to our rooms. Good clean bedroom with tea making. Had an enjoyable evening meal and drinks in the bar. Good selection of whiskys. Breakfast was continental with a good selection of cereals, ham & cheeses, croissants, pain de Chocolat, waffles etc. All in all a Small good value / dog friendly hotel.. No negatives with stay.

- Dirk (2/5): - ......... nix....... Angekommen in Kirkmichael.

- Zoe (9/5): - Very friendly host!
- Fiona (10/5): Lovely, thank you. - We were looked after very well. Rooms were very spacious, clean and comfortable. All the little extras they think of and provide were lovely. (For example if you forgot your toothbrush etc.) Lovely couple, very welcoming. The dinner menu wasn’t as I had remembered or hoped. But they’re only just starting, recently taken over so they have something to work on.
- Ian Morton (8/5): Spot On for Walking Accommodation After a Long Day - Great location. Ralph and Lindsey (owners/hosts) really couldn’t do enough to help and were good natured and fun to talk with. Made us feel at home and welcome. Prepared breakfast early so we could set off on our walk in good time. A perfect walkers’ hotel in a lovely village location.

- sarah (10/5): Fantastic!!! - We had a fantastic weekend at the Kirkmichael Hotel and can’t recommend it highly enough. My son, his friend, and I stayed while we were up for a skiing weekend that happened to fall over Burns Night, which made the whole experience even more special.
Ralph and Lindsey were wonderful hosts. Ralph was attentive throughout our stay, making sure we had everything we needed, and Lindsey really went out of her way to accommodate us for Burns Night. It was lovely to enjoy the traditional haggis and be part of the celebrations.
The open fire created such a cosy, welcoming atmosphere after a day out, and it really felt like a home away from home. Ralph mentioned that he and Lindsey hadn’t been at the hotel very long, but you would never know — they are doing a fantastic job.
The locals were incredibly friendly too, and my son and his friend had a great time playing darts and chatting with everyone.
Thank you for such a warm and memorable stay. We’ll definitely be back!

- bell (7/5): - Good size room
Friendly service
Nice shower unit good pressure Wallpaper missing innthe room lots of it starting to peel off . No parking left at time of visit
- Izabela (6/5): Nice place with room for improvement - The staff were very friendly and clearly doing their best. The location is nice, with easy parking and the property is easy to find. The building itself is charming and there is a bar on site, which is great, especially if you are travelling in a group and want to spend some time together in the evening.
If you are travelling on a tight budget and simply need a place to sleep, I would recommend this place. Unfortunately, the room cleanliness left a lot to be desired. It could have been much better. The carpets were visibly dirty and overall it seemed that not much attention was paid to cleaning.
The mattresses seemed decades old and were extremely uncomfortable. The bed consisted of two small single beds pushed together, which kept sliding apart. The pillows felt like the cheapest ones from a basic store, offering very little support. The duvet was also poor quality and kept bunching up inside the cover, which made it very uncomfortable to sleep under.
It feels like little attention is paid to these important details. These may seem like small things, but they matter a lot to guests who are tired after a long journey or a full day of skiing. Small improvements in these areas would make a big difference and would definitely encourage guests to return. Unfortunately, in our case, that was not the impression we were left with.
No salt in the breakfast room 🙆
- Huxham (8/5): A welcoming place to stay - The staff were friendly, took a personal interest and were extremely accommodating to specific needs. . We had a very comfortable room with bath and shower. There’s a cosy set of sofas in front of the fire in the bar. The continental breakfast was extensive although it didn’t include fresh fruit or cheeses etc so not greatly inspiring. It’s worth noting that the restaurant isn’t open every night.
- Jordan (10/5): Absolutely an amazing stay the staff was amazing and a big thanks to Ralph -
- airey (8/5): Good fun. - Ideal location for a ski trip to Glenshee. We went on a tight budget for 3 days skiing and 2 nights stay and had a great time staying at the hotel. A family run business that we’re helpfull and friendly. Nothing really as it was everything I expected fir the money we paid
- Peter (8/5): A perfect place for a short stop - I was struggling to find somewhere to stay for one night while skiing at Glenshee and very fortunately at the last minute the Kirkmichael Hotel had availability. The hotel has everything one needs including a great bar, and all the staff were super helpful and friendly. A great find. Noting, it was all good
- David (10/5): -
- Harrison (9/5): Superb value for money hotel - Great little hotel that is very accommodating. We were arriving late and they kept the bar open for us so we could get served on arrival. Very helpful staff who provided everything you need. Nothing
- Guy (8/5): - Great location for skiing, friendly, helpful , owners, no problems , great bar food
- Keith (1/5): Disappointed, will not recommend or return to this hotel. - Can’t say we liked anything about this property. Probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. No food available as bar closed “for unplanned maintenance” had not been forewarned. whole hotel extremely shabby. Bathroom WC had wrong sized and badly fitted seat, wobbily and unsafe. Sink cracked, plug chain not attached. No visible staff around to discuss. Notice in corridor stating “if items had been forgotten there were things in bedroom draws” which were not! Bathroom toiletries obviously left by previous guests.
- Geoff (8/5): Excellent, - Huge bed, firearm cabinate and dogs allowed in room not that I had either with me. Reseraunt a mile or so up the road was very good indeed but closes early. Would have preferred a cooked breakfast but what was there was loads and we'll prepared.
- Christie (9/5): Quaint town, lovely host - The location was lovely, we had a walk along the river and the town in the morning. We liked that it was right above a pub (it’s a quaint area). Breakfast was also included in our stay and was well done :)
- Courtney (10/5): Ralph & Lyndsay are amazing hosts ! Went above and beyond for our night stay, great food Ralph even gave us the last - Great area such a lovely wee village , bar/restaurant very cosy with fire board games/darts/books for entertainment
Food from the pub downstairs 10/10
- Claire (10/5): - The stay was exceptional! The hosts were very inviting and we had a lovely experience! Highly recommended!

- Lynne (9/5): Great base for our overnight stay. Great staff - Traditional country hotel, warm and welcoming. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Lovely selection of items for breakfast and cafetiere to make real coffee. Perfect base for us
- Forrest (10/5): -
- Sarkadi (9/5): - It’s a very friendly, family-run hotel with warm, clean rooms and freshly laundered, comfortable beds. The room was equipped with a coffee/tea machine, towels, shampoo, shower gel, etc. It was perfect for the three of us, including a child and a small dog. They didn’t charge anything extra for the dog. The price per night was reasonable, and breakfast was included. The location was also perfect for us, although we arrived by car. Overall, I can recommend this place to anyone looking for a nearby hotel.
- Peter (5/5): A small rural hotel in a fine landscape. - The staff were welcoming and did their best to make me feel welcome.
A party of hill walkers came in from the cold and ordered hot chocolate and other refreshments The staff made them very welcome. The hotel provided a refuge for the walkers.
There was a generous supply amenities in the form of coffee and tea, biscuits and toilet articles. The single room I was allocated (number 5) was rather cramped and the sound of the washing machine and oil fired boiler were quite noticeable. There was nowhere to sit other than the bed or perched on the small bedside cabinet.
The mattress was very uncomfortable and the shelf in the toilet tipped up and dumped most of the toiletries on the floor when I brushed against it.
In the morning I spoke to the managers and responded to their questions about how i found my experience. To give the staff full credit, they welcomed my observations and constructive comments and I believe they took note and were prepared to take action.
Given the burdens placed on the Hospitality industry and small rural hotels, such as the Kirkmichael managers are hard pressed to turn a profit and reinvest in the business.
- Viktor (8/5): -
- Barbara (10/5): -
- Daisy (9/5): - Tranquilité
Accueil Équipement un peu ancien
- Nicole (8/5): - Awesome throughout, excellent staff and awesome bedroom, lovely breakfast. We will be back!
- Richard (8/5): - A cheap hotel in a nice location in the centre of a village near the A9.
- Rúben (4/5): The photos are very deceiving, do not recommend - The people were extremely nice - the lady even opened up breakfast for us earlier than supposed to as we had a long trip ahead and needed to leave early. Besides a very creaky floor and a door that doesn't close on the ouside unless you lock it: it lacks cleanliness; I wouldn't be writing this if it wasn't so blatant because the people were genuinely nice, but it was uncomfortable: the bathroom was so filled with a sweet perfume that it seemed like it was masking something else; the tiles grout was stained pink in a lot of places and I still prefer to believe it was stained by the shower gel than a "Serratia marcescens" growth; the toilet seat was not fixed and someone almost fell as it was at an incline; last but not least there was clearly algae developing in the bathtub's protection (see picture)
- Patricia (8/5): Perfectly comfortable and as expected. - The hotel was exactly what I expected from a village hotel. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We stayed in a family room with a superking bed and 2 single beds. The room still had olenty of space to move around and had ample storage space. The bathroom was clean and perfectly functionable. I can't comment on the breakfast as we all had a long lie in the morning and missed it. Nothing comes to mind.
- David (8/5): -
- McGee (9/5): -
- Aineboyle (7/5): -
- AGNES (8/5): - Very friendly staff. Beds comfortable. Everything was fine
- Samsan (10/5): - Really neet and clean room and good services
- Cominelli (7/5): -
- JENNIFER (7/5): For my requirements as a solo traveller on one overnight stay it was adequate. - Location. Bar. Breakfast. The basin in en suite was very small and the toilet seat wasn’t fixed securely. The tv was too high up on the wall for me to view comfortably.
- Vincent (8/5): Enjoyable stay, cosy and comfortable. - Very cosy stay. Charming location in the middle of the highlands. Nice bar, very friendly staff and plenty for breakfast. We checked in late and the food had finished for the day but the manager very kindly put us on a pizza from his own supply. Overall, very enjoyable stay, no complaints.
- mike (10/5): -
- Richard (6/5): Needs a little tlc - Location was peaceful, lovely quiet village.
Breakfast was good, self service continental. Hotel tired, needs renovation. Water pressure in shower dropped if someone else used cold. Light in shower switches itself off and on. Mood dependent. Mattresses at end of life, no support.
- David (10/5): Great little hotel - Great hosts and a perfect venue in the Highlands.
- Lovett (8/5): - Sitting outside with a cider. Cuckoo clock. No chef.
- Neuman (7/5): -
- Luc (7/5): -
- Maria (4/5): Both the hotel and the info online needs updating. - There were lots of options for breakfast, but no coffee (only nescafe). There were nice little details, like bottled water and toothbrushes, toothpaste etc There´s no bar or restaurant, despite both being advertised. We had to drive to Pitlochry for dinner after alreading having spent the day in the car and looking forward to a cold beer. There isn´t even a reception space and we were told the carpark was out of use for no particular reason. It has to be said the room was a bit dusty, and the whole place pretty tired, which they appear to be working on.
- Judyta (4/5): -
- peter van langen (8/5): - locatie ,s,avonds met plaatselijke bevolking , zeer gezellig pub, mooie ontbijtruimte
- STEPHEN (6/5): - The hotel was well situated for where we were going. It was comfortable and the staff very welcoming We were not notified in advance that there would not be any meals available as there was no chef. This was not convenient as the hotel is situated in a very remote place. Also the beakfast was a continental one not full full breakfast
- Michael (1/5): We didn't stay. - We booked this because there were not many hotels around the area. When we checked in, we were shown to our room, at which time we realised that the rooms were not up to standard. There was a strong smell in the room that the management tried to cover up with multiple air fresheners. It was an old-fashioned room and was not clean. We just left and went on to Perth to book somewhere else. I now know why the rate was non-refundable. We did request a refund, but the hotel just ignored it.
- Margaret (8/5): - Lovely hotel service excellent.Everything is there for you.lovely continental breakfast with plenty off choices
- Martin (8/5): Peaceful location. - Great location. Peaceful.
- Henry (6/5): - Property really needs updating, however new owners are working very hard to improve things,so I think they just need some slack.and a bit of time.
- Mrs Linda (7/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Friendly hotel - Owner and staff very friendly, nothing too much trouble. Hotel very clean, reasonable bar prices. Car park space reserved for us. Good selection for the continental breakfast.
- Chindraciuc (10/5): - Very quiet and beautiful place.
- jayne (8/5): Quaint and lovely - the hotel was well appointed and the staff and owner were delightful, breakfast was massive
L'albergo è vecchio e andrebbe seriamente ristrutturato. L'accoglienza è stata un po' fredda.
- Kathryn (7/5): - De locatie kon niet beter. Prachtige omgeving. De host was zeer behulpzaam. Wij wilde ontbijt om 05:30 omdat we vroeg weg moesten. Dit was geen enkel probleem. Ontbijtbuffet was goed. Ons bed was heel groot.
- Susan (9/5): - Friendly and helpful host.
Size of room was excellent.
Superb tea tray.
Phenomenal continental breakfast - choice and quantity.
On site parking.
Beer garden/terrace catches the sun.
Although directly on the roadside it was very quiet in the village. Restaurant and bar were shut on our visit.
Ensuite needs some maintenance attention, but it didn't affect us directly.
- Jamie (10/5): - A great stop for walkers on the Cateran Trail.. The continental breakfast offered an excellent bountiful choice. In addition, the little extras - free bottled water. tooth brushes and paste and disposable razors made a nice touch. Would readily stay again.
- Sarah (8/5): Perfect for the Cateran Trail - Absolutely fabulous continental breakfast. I'd honestly have that over cooked any day. I particularly liked that the ground coffee and a load of plungers were left out so you could make it how you like it.
Spacious room with everything we needed. Looked a little worn, but clean and absolutely fine. And they stocked basics like toothbrush and toothpaste, razor and shaving cream for anyone who's forgotten them. Lovely touch. Dodgy bathroom light which randomly turned off. They weren't doing food, but the village shop is excellent and does cafe food.
- Kenny Miller (1/5): - Very little. It was cheap, but even then it was poor value. Poor quality furnishings, not clean, seemed to be 1 member of staff. Kitchen was closed, no cooked breakfast available. Very, very poor quality
- Brian (1/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Laura (9/5): - The staff were excellent and the area was lovely to stay at, just a quick drive to Pitlochry and various other towns. I found the room a bit dusty and cramped but it was fit for purpose.
- Brian McGarrie (7/5): -
- Federico-Maria (10/5): - Staff very warm and friendly.. He wait for us till 1h30 am and once there he also asked if I wanted a beer.
SUPER!
