- van Staden (5/5): - We stayed at this guest house for one night. The place itself is very beautiful, clean, and well kept. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made us feel comfortable on arrival. Unfortunately, there were a few issues that affected our stay. There was a lot of noise outside our room from other guests, which made it difficult to rest. The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable and really needs to be replaced. One of the biggest concerns was the pillow — it had a horrendous smell. I initially thought it was just the pillowcase, but after removing it, I noticed the pillow itself was very old, dirty, and smelled strongly like cat urine. This was very unpleasant. Additionally, the bathroom drains smelled so bad that we had to keep the bathroom door closed the entire time. I truly believe this guest house has great potential, but there are some important improvements that need to be made, especially regarding bedding, hygiene, and noise control.

The breakfast was good, but I would have liked to see a better cheese option than processed cheese packages. It would also have been nice to have some cold meats and tomato. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. I had to use the shampoo. On the first morning there was no water in the shower. I had to walk to reception to report it. Apparently the pump had tripped. The WiFi was very poor. Despite them rebooting the router more than once, I was unable to get proper WiFi in the room. The remote did not work as the gate had been damaged, so they had to give me a new remote. Neither of the bulbs in the bedside lamps were working so I had to report this too. By that stage there was no one at reception and neither did anyone respond to the WhatsApp that I sent on the number provided. It took more than half an hour before I got a working light bulb. Despite the problems, the guesthouse was very nice.

Breakfast was nice, if average for a guesthouse. We had to keep asking someone to refill the percolator machine as nobody seemed to be checking it. No veggies available for breakfast (usually there's tomatoes or potatoes, etc). Some of the rooms had milk for coffee and tea, one didn't. One hair dryer caught literal fire when we switched it on. Two of the rooms didn't have hot water for bath/shower. There wasn't still water in the fridges. We also found old potato fries and bottle caps under our bed.
