Guest Reviews
- Julie (9/5): - Owner was great, very calm atmosphere, great bungalow, food for diner was great, pick up service from Chiang Rai Included breakfast was just toast, butter, honey and tea/ coffee.
No option around for lunch
- brt (9/5): Je recommande !

- Smrtová (6/5): - Krásný výhled, východ slunce přímo do postele. Tradiční vesnice obyvatel kmene Aka a Lahu. Krásná příroda a klid.

- Nicholas (10/5): The perfect combination of wilderness and village life - It felt like another world up in the hills, and only 30 minutes from Chiang Rai airport (you can request a pickup or drop-off from the owner). This homestay has a great shared dining area by the river, and i really enjoyed sitting by the bonfire at night. You can walk to nearby Huai Mae Sai waterfall or Doi bo mountain viewpoint, spend some time in the village (just down the road from the homestay) and maybe even learn a few things about Lahu and Akha culture if you are curious. I loved being in a real village, not a place designed for tourists. I didn’t expect to discover a completely different side of Thailand here, but i’m so happy i did. The father and son running the homestay are very kind, and their small dogs and cats are adorable.
- cbrody (10/5): Beautiful location in the hills by a river with a lovely and helpful host -
- Stanisław (1/5): - Very dirty and stinking place. Overpriced for what we got. We ran away after first night, even though we paid for 2 nights.
- anna (10/5): - Amazing, super warm and welcoming owners. What a treat to spend some time in their home and to immerse into the nature surrounding the place.
Very tasty meals.
Super authentic atmosphere.
Januar 2026
- Kawe (8/5): - Middel in the nature close to the river Shower pressure and temperature
- alex (10/5): A must stay if you want to connect with the land and good people - It was the best get away I could have hoped for after traveling from city to city. Mr. Tep and his family were incredibly warm and welcome and I would 100% bring my family here again

- Christian (10/5): Came here to heal and it provided perfect opportunity for me to step away from hectic daily routine. - Stayed here 7 years ago and was great to return to a lovely homestay . Location is a bit away from town ,but that is the charm that you are away from hustle and bustle.
- Murray (10/5): - Very warm and helpful family
The rooms are very unique and very clean with great view The shower in our room was a bit cold, but if you lower the pressure it's fine. I heard from the other guests their showers were warm

- Agnès (7/5): Great place to see life on the hills. - Many friendly cats and dogs on the property. Included breakfast was excellent and very generous. Diner was available for 100baht and the food was always delicious. Hosts were very kind. The family room was older in a concrete building with no views but other rooms are nicer, in bamboo bungalows and overlooking the river. Beware that there a bar in the village which plays loud music all night long and also fireworks sometimes go off in the middle of the night. We were grateful to stay in the village but it was not as peaceful as expected. Also better communication from hosts would have been great. We were not shown around the property or explained about the common areas. For example we did not know about a coffee machine was available until the last morning when we heard another guest order an americano. Just a minor inconvenience, it was still a great value.
- Sarina (7/5): Location is nice but louder than you might think - The waterfall is close by, the river next to the property is lovely There are lots of cats and I’ve got a cat allergy 👀. There’s a church next door which is loud ! The room is cute but very dark. It was a bit confusion to always get food. But there’s a little shop in the village
- Haiducu (6/5): Pleasant - The owners are nice and friendly. Beds were comfortable, with clean bed sheets. It has potential, it could be a great experience but ruined by neglect. Dirty bathroom, with urine stains on the toilet and dirty tiles on the walls at the shower. Garbage and construction left over everywhere. We avoided eating there because it really seemed unsanitary. With minimal effort from the staff this could be a great place.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully placed within the mountains right next to a river, close to the waterfalls. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Owners offered dinner for 150BHT/person A bit cold during the night (January)
- Štefan (6/5): Pleasant - I have problem with checkin, never know if will by dinner and price for food was more them i expeting.
- Christos (8/5): Very good -
- Barbara (8/5): Very good - The place is quite and very special. Room by the river with a balcony. Common spaces are a little bit neglected.
Also not obvious about what is included in the price.
- Nicolò (5/5): We didn’t end up staying here. My friend was sick and needed a decent bathroom with minimum hygienic conditions that wer -
- Isabella (10/5): perfect - love the host, amazing! the children make the village! The room was very beautiful and involved with nature but that means there are bugs. nothing, maybe the bugs, but i just am a afraid of them
- Annemijn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Freya (10/5): Exceptional - Such a beautiful and peaceful location. Tep was very friendly. Just the right balance of traditional village life with some of the comforts you might expect. And amazing to have such a beautiful waterfall and view point just to myself. This is the countryside so there are a few insects so maybe one to avoid if that really freaks you out.
- Jane (9/5): A great adventure - Beautiful location, walking distance to a waterfall. The host, Tep, was so friendly and accommodating (also an excellent cook) that we really felt spoiled. We did a day hike up the hill, with Tep cooking us a gourmet meal partway through over an open fire inside of bamboo cooking containers. We walked home through farm fields and alongside water buffaloes. It was so incredible to see the way these folks live, up close and personal. You really have to like camping, which we do, so no problem there.
- Alison (10/5): I loved this place so much I stayed 3 weeks! - I highly recommend!
A beautiful, authentic Homestay in a traditional bamboo hut nestled in the jungle above a fast flowing creek.
My hut was very comfortable - soft mattress and soft pillows, mosquito net, ensuite with hot shower. A balcony to relax and watch the world (ie pigs, dogs, water buffalo) go by.
The owner, Mr Thep, is a friendly, kind, knowledgeable local Lahu man. He was always willing to help and provided information, and organised transport when I needed it. He speaks English very well. This is his home, he has lived here with his father and delightful daughter for 20 years.
They offer great food and beer, both very well priced (80-100baht) especially considering you are in the middle of a jungle. (There is also a lovely creek-side cafe that has great food 10 minutes walk away.)
But don’t expect this Homestay to be like the facilities/conveniences of Chiang Rai, or compare it to a hotel (there are no taxis or Grab App in the jungle!) - it is so much more - this is a serene piece of paradise where you can disconnect, relax and enjoy the jungle and experience the simplicity and beauty of authentic village life.
I really enjoyed my stay and laughed a lot! The ‘Land of Smiles’ has somehow come out the other side of covid still smiling. And so am I.
To do:
- 20 minute walk through the jungle (steps) to the refreshing Mae Sai waterfall. Highly recommend going in for a dip - the water gets deep after a few steps in. The waterfall itself provides a chilly, powerful massage!
- If you want more of a challenge take the (very) steep walk up (3.7km) to the Doi Bo Viewpoint - ‘Sea of Mist Yafu’
- If you aren’t quite up for the climb to the Viewpoint you can turnoff at the halfway mark and visit Ban Yafu Village. It’s a photographer’s delight.
- Take an easy walk to Akha Village (2. Nothing
- Paul (9/5): Superb - The place is a traditional bamboo and thatch Akha cottage. It is right on a burbling brook. Overall my experience was lovely and pleasant. For the price, you can't do better. And it is worth the stay just for the experience.
- Alexander (10/5): if you want to get away into nature nearby Chiang Rai, this is the place to stay. - super cosy, homey, and Mr. Thep is a wonderful host. good food, good energies, great location. in the middle of paradise.
- Dominik (10/5): the location in the jungle is truly stunning. Host Thep grew up in the jungle and knows all about it, including medicina - A bamboo built camp just above a gurgling river, breath-taking. You really get the jungle feeling! N/A
- Louis (5/5): totaly it was a nice experience and night time full of bright star in the sky - the breakfast was nice especially home made coffee the owner seems to be lack of helpers to make some better cleaning public area
- Michel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kaya (10/5): I loved it there and would recommend it to everyone who loves nature and the most friendly people:) -
- Isabella (10/5): Exceptional - A great experience living the authentic village life in Thailand. Tep is a very warm and friendly host, and we enjoyed the amazing experience of trekking with him. There is a lovely waterfall nearby to walk to also. The facilities and room are very basic (wooden hut), but if you are not scared of a few bugs/creepy crawlies then you'll be fine!
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brown (9/5): Great experience and a friendly host. - Host was exceptionally nice. In the evening cooked an excellent chicken curry and rice dinner and in the morning we had a nice conversation as I had breakfast. Host speaks English well and is an experienced guide for the area if you have a notion to do some trekking.
