Guest Reviews
- Jessica (10/5): - We arrived around 8 and they were very helpful with dining options outside of the hotel but we ended up eating there, which was an amazing choice! The service was excellent, the food was delicious. We spoke with a worker for almost an hour after the restaurant should have closed and got many suggestions on where to go on our trip and lots of information about Iceland. Wonderful stay!
- Jessica (2/5): - We ended up sleeping in the car because there were bed bugs at the property.
- Janice (10/5): - Clean and comfortable.
Great breakfast!
Relaxing location.
- Goretti (8/5): - Its not bad. Pretty good breakfast
- Aleem (10/5): - Great for a short stay, room is really spacious which is nice.
- Tsaiti (10/5): - Wonderful staff
- I3699BGpeterw (8/5): A good country lodge which fulfilled our needs. - We arrived very late at the hotel (literally just on 9pm) and the bar/restaraunt were just being shut up for the night.
It was well decorated and tidy. We were given lodge 5 which was the closest one to the building. It was a lovely room. The beds were a little soft for my liking, but this is a preference and you can't please everyone. Speaking to the owner in the morning, my partner was given a useful shortcut for the drive to Myvatn, cutting 40 mins from the trip and sending us over the mountains with the beautiful scenery which comes with that.
The continental breakfast was well stocked. It was a nice stop on the tour.
- Gordon (10/5): - This accommodation was quite unique. The building we stayed in had shared restrooms and the rooms were made like wood cabins, with heavy wood doors and old style locks. Very cool. The breakfast in the morning was excellent, with fresh bread to add a notch over the typical bed and breakfast style places. Thank you for the stay!
- Larry (10/5): - Everything was very comfortable
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great place to stay. We missed that check-in ends at 9:00 pm, arrived late and they arranged for us to get into our room. Very helpful tips and very friendly.
- Brittany Leighanne (10/5): - Very clean and quiet. Great location
- 399anshula (10/5): Great people, very comfortable stay - Great helpful staff, including the senior couple who owns the place. Reception girl was extremely nice to us, so was the owner when we ended up creating an issue in the room, and even the kitchen staff was super helpful to get us the allergen information and checked for us on the food packaging from the kitchen.
The breakfast was nice with enough variety, and rooms are very comfortable, too!
Property is in open and just outside the city of Hofn. Quite convenient.
Highly recommended!
- Alex (10/5): - Will be returning! This location was a very pleasant and quiet spot to rest as we travelled the southern region of the country. Looking back I wish we would stayed longer! This hotel was an awesome rustic experience between the farm around and the actual room. And the staff was super pleasant to interact with. Also, the location is close to Vestrahorn/Stokksnes, perfect for photography!
- Jing (6/5): no vuelvo a repetir - mucho frio, hay q pedir un heater extra. pero hace mucho ruido mientras poniendo y no se puede dormir.
- Tara (10/5): - great hospitality
- Patricia (10/5): - Great location for a stop for the night while traveling the ring road. The bedroom was very clean and comfortable.
- donna (10/5): - Great place to stay to access the national park and all it has to offer. Excellent breakfast and friendly helpful staff.
- Fran (10/5): - Lovely property.. we hope to come back for longer stay
- bbright1 (10/5): Comfy stay near Hofn - We really enjoyed our night here. The place had a rustic but comfortable vibe that made us want to linger. The on-site restaurant was closed during our weeknight stay, but we’d picked out a restaurant in nearby Hofn anyhow. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean and had everything we needed including space to spread out. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Staff were friendly. We rented two rooms and did NOT experience any bug issues during our stay as others have mentioned.
- 918kalpeshs (8/5): Nice cabins along the ring road - Nice and perfect stay right along the ring road. 5 minute drive to small town area. Hotel is owned and managed by a family. Owner was very welcoming. We had cabins for our stay, parking was just outside the cabin. Room was very clean. Morning breakfast provided decent limited options. I will visit this place again in case if I make another trip to Iceland anytime in future.
- 709andrewf (10/5): A welcome refuge. - This place provided refuge after a very hard and long day. Having been delayed by a “Glacial Burst” we were in contact with the owner who was extremely helpful. His local knowledge was by far the most informative of anyone we spoke to about the situation we found ourselves, and we followed his advice successfully. Upon a very late arrival we found we could park directly outside the room while the key was in the door. Needing an early start next day breakfast was served efficiently and with good cheer by a friendly Portuguese man. I’m saying the people involved with this establishment are really good.
- Neville (8/5): - Friendly greeting on arrival. Room was a bit like a pine cabin, but was clean with a nice view. Cook had the night off when we were there so no opinion on the restaurant. Happy hour drinks were a bit cheaper. Breakfast was good.
- Kevin (6/5): - The owner was very welcoming and sweet. They were also able to provide some bandages and septic after a party member tripped in the parking lot.
The shared bathroom accommodations leave a lot to be desired. Honestly a simple fan would go a long way. The rooms end up quite stuffy and you can't open the windows due to the sandflies.
There was also facial hair on / in the cups in our room upon arrival -- the cleaning of the rooms isn't up to par
- TravisS1357 (2/5): Bug problem, not properly disclosed by staff - 1.) This is NOT a 3 star hotel. The accommodations are very meager.
2.) The staff did NOT warn us about the Sandflies in the area upon check in. By midnight, our room was infested with these bugs that bite and itch. We had to leave in the middle of the night to make our return to Reykjavik to escape this situation.
3.) There was a bunch of horse dung outside our window as well that was disgusting and likely exasperated the sand fly problem.
I emailed the owners and never heard a response.
- Verified traveler (4/5): DO NOT STAY IN THE SUMMER- BUG INFESTED - DO NOT STAY HERE IN THE SUMMER! The property was infested with sand flies and you were unable to open any windows or else you would get several bites. They told us this at check in and even had a sign in the room about it, but nothing about it prior to our stay. Our room became quite warm and stuffy with no air flow as we couldn’t open a window and there was no fan provided. We ended up leaving our booking early and when we told multiple staff members about the issues with the bugs and not being able to open windows they all basically said “what can you do?” And did not care. I would not recommend this place!
- Ying (10/5): - Very clean hotel room and comfortable bed!
- llagonne66 (8/5): Comfortable hotel in Hofn - We spent one night in the Arnanes Country Hotel.
Our room was located in a cabin. It was rather small but well equipped and comfortable.
Buffet breakfast was quite standard.
No idea about the pricing as it was part of the package from our travel agency.
- Emily (4/5): - My friend and I stayed here June 21 and had a very disappointing experience. Our room had a note informing us of sandflies being present at the hotel. The note essentially warns guests they will could up to 40 bites a night and to close windows. I have a severe allergy to these bugs and was not made aware of the infestation upon booking. We found many sandflies present in our room around the window where the seal around the window gapped and was broken. When checking out, we made our disappointment aware to staff who shrugged it off and called it “iceland”. I truly do not believe this to be the case as no other accommodations have made these flies known to us. Our glacier tour guide also agreed how disgusting the hotel must be to have such an infestation. My friend did get bit and I slept the entire night in layers covering my entire body. For your peace of mind, please do not subject yourself to this hotel when they refuse to invest in mitigation such as providing rooms with fans (the flies do not like wind) or properly reseal all their windows and fix holes in the floor. If there is time to print notes for every room, there is time for emails to make guests aware.
- CT94010 (2/5): Nice hotel but beware during sand fly season - Beautiful setting but beware. We were booked into here by our travel agent as part of a 10 day ring road itinerary. We arrived on a warm day in early June and were warned that we ought not to open our windows as it was the season for sand flies - tiny biting insects, and the windows were not screened. We carefully loaded our bags into the room careful to keep the door open for only a few seconds and didn’t open the window, though the room was warm due to a day full of sun (and maybe some built in hot water warming as most places have) When we went to bed it became obvious that there were lots of sand flies in the room already. I tried to cover myself with the provided duvet cover but it was too warm for it. All night we were swatting against our faces. When I awoke I literally had over 300 small bites each red and swelling and itchy over my exposed hands and lower feet and calves. The bed sheet had tons of dead flies and blood spots crushed by my body and dead spots. When we opened the blackout curtain there were thousands massed on the window. We packed and left as soon as we could. Apparently the last visitor must have left the window/door open??!!
So if it’s sand fly season (not exactly sure how we advise staying elsewhere. Or be prepared to cover yourself in bug spray to enter the room.
Other than this issue, the room was clean and as I said the setting great. Maybe during cooler non-flea weeks/months?? it would be great but aka about sand fly season timing before booking. If you go during this time make sure your alternative accommodation has window screens of staying in this area.
- Lisa (10/5): - We had our own little “cabin” to ourselves. The staff was very welcoming & courteous. The place was honestly amazing & I cannot recommend it enough. I would hands-down stay here again!
- gmg416 (6/5): No evening meals, May 2024 - Good accommodation but restaurant closed for evening meals.
Plan for an 8km drive back to Hofn. All restaurants in Hofn close at 21.00 so plan accordingly, especially if you've had a long drive or energetic day.
Rooms clean and well presented.
Warm with all facilities expected
- Liviu (10/5): - Friendliness of staff and convenient location for exploring the area
- John (10/5): - Friendly staff! Great communication, like most hospitality in Iceland, they genuinely want you to feel welcome.
- janethG140BA (6/5): Icelandic tour - Stop off on our Icelandic tour. Room was clean and warm. It is a basic hotel but good for a stop over. As they don’t offer evening meals they recommend a few restaurants in town, very good choices. Breakfast is included and it’s your basic continental with some homemade jams ect. Friendly staff.
- Devin (10/5): - Beautiful destination. Extremely quiet. Great spot to stay with excellent food just down the road.
- Monica (10/5): - Sweet little country house. Friendly staff. Simple and comfortable. Easy drive into town.
- big_rog1 (10/5): Comfy warm stay - My son and I stayed here on weds 4th October 2023.We had driven down the superb Eastern coastal road but foolishly hadn't booked any accommodation and we had exhausted all our phones and power banks searching the Hotel sites it was very dark cold and we had missed our evening meal,we were desperate, could easily have been a cold night in tiny car in a layby but we had seen this country hotel on booking.com but at a crazy price of £181 for a shared room with breakfast but no bathroom we stopped at a house nearby where we saw many people out in garden watching the northern lights and we joined them, and mentioned our accommodation situation they rang the Ardanes country hotel nearby and they had one room left and let us have it for 18,500 isk(£109) so we were saved.Very thankfully.
As you enter the drive there's cabins to the left, and at the top of the car park there's the main reception/bar/dining room.which also has an outdoor patio seating area.We were housed in a block to the left of this building upstairs in a wood panelled twin room with sloping ceiling and a verandah where we continued watching the northern lights. The room was warm although the radiator did seem to go off at perhaps midnight until morning.Comfy beds.very warm duvets.shared bathroom was ok with shower.Breakfast was decent buffet.Paid up,shook hands with owner.Good stay.Nice area with view of Glaciers and hills.
- Taylor (10/5): - We loved it here! This was the place we stayed the day we got engaged and it was absolutely perfect. We saw the most intense northern lights here as well!
- nighttrain66Riyadh (8/5): Not so good experience - We stayed at this hotel for one night as part of our trip around Iceland.
The rate was too high, and the rooms are large but feels really no privacy as you can easily hear everything in the next room.
Service was so-so.
- Jenni (8/5): - Was a lovely quiet place to spend the evening with dinner options being 6min drive away in Höfn.
Only issue was the bathroom drain for the shower didn’t work and so the entire bathroom floor turned into a flood zone whenever someone took a shower, eventually leaking into the room itself through under the door.
Otherwise was a lovely place to spend an evening.
- Brian (10/5): - Loved staying here! Beautiful property. Quiet, clean and comfortable. A very good breakfast!
- Lauren (10/5): - Nice, quiet family run property with a good on-site restaurant serving local cuisine. Rooms were clean and quiet with nice views of the horses and shoreline in the distance and breakfast buffet with breads, meat, cheese, cereals etc is included.
- Matt (10/5): - Quiet palce to stay with a great restaurant. Beautiful scenery around the hotel.
- Jessica (10/5): - We loved our stay here! The owners are friendly, the free breakfast is outstanding, and our dinner was so tasty. I’d definitely recommend staying here.
- Bhaven (6/5): - It's definitely not worth the price they charge. It's basic accommodation.
- francisco (10/5): - Ale (Alejandro) and his girlfriend were amazing, very welcoming and super customer oriented, always willing to offer a word of advice about the best places to visit.
- Douglas (8/5): - Basic hotel with excellent breakfast.
- Santoshkumar (10/5): - The property was excellent, located in a scenic place and we had a comfortable stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic place. It was quiet and beautiful near the hotel. The room was clean. The staff/owners were friendly. Breakfast was great. I would stay here again.
- Tony (8/5): - It is in a nice location, right off main road and easy to get to. The surrounding is very beautiful, it will be more so in summer time! Room is good size and clean, beds are comfortable. They served tasty food too!
- Ken (10/5): - One of the best places we stayed so far on our visit to Iceland. The rooms are a perfect size and seem to either be somewhat new or remodeled. The host is amazing and spent a lot of time talking to us about Iceland, history, places to eat local and recommendations as we continue to travel. They don’t skimp on breakfast either. A must stay and will highly recommend to friends coming later.
- Tat (10/5): - Simple but clean and spacious rooms.
- 758martynl (6/5): Tired rooms, fab buffet breakfast, - We did a 5 day organised tour of Iceland which included an overnight stop at this hotel. Sadly the rooms were old and tired as was the en suite. The evening meal was disappointing. The farm fresh lamb was under cooked and raw. I asked for it to be cooked again but after a 20 min wait I was given another meal, sadly the lamb was again raw and I could not eat it.
Being remotely situated we had a fab view of the northern lights around midnight.
The buffet breakfast was excellent with an array of choices,
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Our stay here was fan
- James (10/5): - Friendly staff, great location, nice room!
- Robert (10/5): Cozy Quiet and Clean - Clean, quiet (very quiet), smaller rooms even by Icelandic standards however comfortable, even cozy in a good way. Innkeeper was nice, also served as the bar keep. He warned us of the upcoming island wide storm, 75 mph sustained, 100 mph gusts. He recommended its dangerous anything over 25 meters per second (56 mph) sustained, and we took his local advise to heart. We high tailed it out of there and made a midnight run to the north of the island. Beat the storm, talked to others at airport who didn't that they had windows broken by flying rocks, stuck for 2 days while roads shut down.
- Igo (4/5): - Review only of the shared bathroom room. Extremely uncomfortable beds, very squeaky flooring.
Breakfast was good though.
- Robert (10/5): Home like stay with added bonus of northern lights - Great stay at the Arnanes Country Hotel. Very clean and home-like country "long house" with ample room, quiet, with excellent breakfast. The owner tapped on the door to let us know about the northern lights which was much appreciated. This location was great, right off the ring road . It was our best stay during the trip and seeing the northern lights was icing on the cake!
- Carly (10/5): - Friendly staff, great location, immaculately clean room, delicious breakfast, and a free crib for our baby. Cannot go wrong here!
- Nicolas (6/5): Decent for a night - Basic but decent accommodation near Klaustur. Small room. Bathroom is small and has a transparent window (not frosted, no curtain) so other guests walking by it could see inside. Room door also has a window, with a black out curtain but no see through curtain (so if you don’t want other people to see your room, you need to draw the blackout curtain).
Wooden cabins with direct access to a parking area. Breakfast is basic.
Overall it’s decent but don’t expect too much.
- Gloria (10/5): - Lovely cabins. New and clean. Very quiet
- Karen (6/5): - Good location. Helpful and friendly staff. Lovely evening meal. However, TV in room did not work and no hot water in the morning.
- Anda (8/5): - Loved the cottages for 2. Although the country style is not oyr preferred, the property exceeded our expectations...beautiful location with views of the mountain and cloae to Hofn.
- Michael (8/5): - I had requested a double bed via Orbitz but apparently the property does not have any double beds! I don’t know why the option was even listed in that case. The room itself was plain but clean. The shared bathrooms in the hall had only a single shower for four rooms plus another WC but worked out ok. The breakfast was typical Icelandic buffet breakfast with poor coffee, yogurts and raw fruit and vegetables, etc.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Wonderful service, delicious meal (even when arriving as the restaurant was closing), very knowledgeable and informative owner.
- Rita (10/5): - The owner was very friendly and offered suggestions for dining and sightseeing in area.
- CHRISTOPHER (10/5): - The owners are lovely people. Our room was really clean and bright with a big window overlooking the horses grazing.
The included breakfast had a great selection of cereals, breads, vegetables, fruits, meats and cheese.
Was a great spot to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
- OnTheGoFLFamily (10/5): Wonderful guesthouse with an excellent restaurant - We had booked Arnanes for one night as a stopover between Vik and Egilstaddir and it was a great choice. After a long day traveling and sightseeing, it was nice to be warmly greeted upon arrival and given the information we needed for our stay.
The rooms are single story rooms in a long row, with parking outside your door but we couldn't hear any outside noise when we were in the room. The room was a nice size and very clean. The hotel location was quiet, with just a little noise from the road.
Arnanes is just outside Hofn so we chose to eat in their restaurant. The hotel was fully booked and it seemed like everyone else did the same. I chose the lamb and it was the best lamb meal I had in 2 weeks traveling around Iceland. Breakfast in the morning was a small buffet with plenty of options, although the area was a little crowded to maneuver.
I would book here again if returning to the area.
- Andrew (10/5): Amazing Stay - Amazing stay! We loved it! Beautiful and charming!
- Katrina (10/5): - It was beautiful, quaint, comfortable, and close.to town but far enough to feel like I was staying in the countryside.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice quiet spot to stay near Hofn. Each room feels like it’s own standalone cabin. Comfortable and clean room. Breakfast was free and basic (yogurt with add-one, a few meats, eggs, toast and jams). Very little for vegetarian eaters. Overall, pleasant stay and would recommend it.
- Jessica (10/5): Arnanes Country Hotel - This was a great stay on the eastern part of Iceland. The check in process was very simple and the room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant on site was delicious and the only place we got a salad which was much appreciated! The breakfast in the morning was good as well and was nice to have it included so you can eat and then start the next part of your trip without delay. I would stay here again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a quiet, pastoral setting, far enough off the ring road that you can't hear any road noise. It's close enough to Höfn for restaurants and other services.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect place to stay on our trip along the ring road. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with gorgeous views of the surrounding area. The hosts are super friendly and kind and went out of their way to accommodate us, not only with moving our reservation but also with some assistance that we needed at 11 pm. Highly recommended!
- Karina (10/5): Convenient, clean, gracious hospitality - The rooms were spacious and very clean. The family that owns the Arnanes Country Hotel was very gracious and we enjoyed a lovely horse ride on their property.
- Romain (8/5): As expected - Nice breakfast, with choice.
Cleanliness of the room. Confortable.
The hosts were welcoming.
- Jen T. (8/5): Quaint and inviting - Wonderful
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved the location of this hotel. The views of the glaciers from the dining room were amazing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Breakfast was great. Room in attic with shared bathrooms for $142.00 a nite, overpriced, heat was not good in room or shared bathrooms. Liked it was off ring road
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful and convenient location right off Ring Road ; amazing breakfast buffet; very clean, charming and rustic.
- Bhima (8/5): Stay in Arhanas - Good overall
- Jackson (10/5): - The lobster pasta my wife and I had was definitely the best meal we had in the 2 weeks we spent in iceland
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The views from the property are amazing! Also, they have many horses and a friendly dog.
- JONG-JONG (8/5): Peaceful surroundings. - Comfortable and clean room. Cold breakfast but sufficient.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the cottage surrounded by mountains and view of the glacier. It’s also 5 minutes away from downtown Höfn which I like.
The staff were very nice and helpful with information about the area
- Ann (10/5): - Owner/ staff very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless, and everything we had to eat for dinner in the restaurant was extraordinary. The entire property has 360° views of Iceland at its best - ocean, mountains, glacier(s), waterfalls, rolling hills, horses. Worth the trek!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - very basic. pictures imply a farm setting. It's not.
- Jetal (10/5): - Friendly, adorable place. Great location, off ring road, near Höfn. Great experience!
- Shadow (10/5): - Very clean, accomdating for different diets in their kitchen. Owner was personally involved and trying to help other tourists book local trips to their needs.
- Mark (10/5): - We stayed one night and had an unbelievably good supper and had a great horse ride the next day.
- Ethel (10/5): Lovely country inn. Family and home feel - Lovely little country inn, delicious breakfast and incredibly friendly staff! Super clean rooms, homey feel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The room was clean and cozy, with a balcony and a great view. Very peaceful. The location was very good - we went to Hofn for dinner, less than 10min away, and we visited the Jokulsarlon glacier in the morning, less than an hour drive). Breakfast was lovely and the staff was very friendly. Highly recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great scenery! Nice service. Tasty breakfast and delicious dinner.
- TK (10/5): - I loved how cozy and quiet our room was after several days in the city. It’s a country atmosphere but perfectly close to the restaurants and everything else Höfn has to offer with a fantastic view of the glacier! Staff was very friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend staying here if you are on the ring road route.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful place, highly recommended. Views from every room are amazing, friendly staff. Gave out robes for use with the hot tubs that overlooked a lake. Food for breakfast and dinner was great. Most relaxing place we’ve stayed so far in Iceland.
- Brandi (10/5): I'll be back! - I would have stayed forever if everything I wanted to see was closer. Fantastic staff, great food, awesome surroundings! Clean, quiet, and friendly. I had great chats with staff and fellow guests alike. Just a really wonderful stay :D
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent stay and hosts! Beautiful hotel. Very clean.
- P.C. (10/5): Good country hotel with a farm atmosphere! - My wife loves this hotel the most. It is like a quite little farm away from city. When we arrived it was heavy rain. The host kindly upgraded our room from a shared to with a private bathroom. As it has few guests, we didn't expect a good breakfast. But the buffet breakfast is as good as other bigger hotels.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly staff, clean rooms and heaters with control. Great breakfast too. And easy to find
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place to stay - Good location, 8 mins from Hofn. Quite space. Clean room and common area. Two shared bath and four rooms per building.
