- shallow_drift (6/5): A decent stay but some minor gripes - Great location on the periphery of the medina and on a quiet street. The service was friendly, though it could at times be difficult to find the owner or anyone working there. The room was reasonably comfortable but it's a bit difficult with a curtain instead of a door to the bathroom, and there were odd bits and bobs in need of maintenance throughout the hotel (looks a little better in pictures than reality). Because of the lack of door, drain smell from the bathroom filled the whole room at times. The WiFi only worked some of the time, and when it did work could only be connected to in certain areas of the hotel.
Breakfast was fine and served by a friendly lady though a bit lower in food quality than the other places we stayed in Morocco.
- H2843AOmarkuss (10/5): In der Medina, nähe Jema el Fna und doch sehr ruhig. Kleiner Pool. - Close to the central Jema el Fna but very calm. Great with kids, with a little pool inside. Very helpful und friendliy staff. And with a nice terasse on the rooftop. Just don't try to drive to close by car (park outside of the medina walls! It's not a long walk)
- follome (6/5): good location, great breakfast, but a curtain instead of a door to our bathroom ruined it for us - this quaint riad was in a great location, close to one of the main gates and inside the medina, so very easy to find, once we knew the location, the beds were simple but comfortable, but there was a noticible lack of lighting in the room. Breakfast was abundant and tasty and traditional food was served which was nice, staff was very nice and helpful. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place as our room for 3 persons had a curtain instead of a door for the washroom, and that curtain was too small to actually give you privacy. This was not ideal as we were a group of friends and travelling as you know does play havoc on the bowels, lol. We managed but honestly, even with family members it would have been awkward. Please put in a proper door! overall the place is a bit more run down than the pictures online show.
- GinnelleE (10/5): Perfect stay - We arrived at this Riad and were welcomed with mint tea. Our rooms were lovely and clean. My kids loved the pool and spent many hours swimming in this beautiful Riad.
The staff was so helpful. They went out of their way to be kind to my children. The breakfast was awesome. Fresh squeezed orange juice daily.
The view from the rooftop was spectacular.
My only complaint is that our air conditioner didn't work and the room was pretty warm. We just opened the door and windows to cool off.
Great location, right in the heart of the medina, but still very quiet and peaceful. I really recommend this spot.
- Verified traveler (2/5):
- thereseh559 (6/5): Freezing cold - Our familly of four (two children age 5+9) stayed here for two nights in december. The rooms where freezing cold. The heating fan did not work and there's no use in a fire place in the room when there is nothing to burn in it.
We ate the Riads lovely brekfast with our winter jackets and hats on, but still it was freezing. We originally booked for three nights, but ended up leaving after two (still paying for the third) when our son got a asthma attack from the cold and all the rest of us cathced a cold.
I'm sure this is a good place in summer, but it's way to cold in desember. It's also a high price for a freezing cold room. The bathroom is behind a curtain, so that means showering in this freezing room.
Breakfast was nice, staff was very nice and welcoming. Location is exellent if you want to stay in the old town.
- nevilleu2017 (8/5): Quiet in the heart of a teeming city - I've just spent a couple of nights at Riad El Alamir. It is an ideal quiet, clean spot that I found essential after the hustle and bustle of the city. Close to the centre, its one disadvantage is that it is not at all easy to find on arrival, especially at night, being at the end of a small alley in the maze of streets in the old town.
Once you arrive, though, the place is most attractive. The breakfasts are large, the service fast and the atmosphere calm and friendly.
But what made this riad really special was the attitude of Rashid, who runs the place. He was always happy to give any necessary information about Marrakesh whenever needed. Several times he went out of his way to be helpful, far beyond the call of duty, whether by indicating how to find places in the city, estimating what would be a fair price for a certain item in the souk, or simply giving general advice. As a first-time visitor to Marrakesh, this was extremely useful.
- asifriaz1979 (8/5): Excellent stay in the heart of Marrakech - The Riad was located in a central location, within walking distance to sights. It may be difficult to find at first but the Riad arranged pick up which was perfect and took us into the hotel. The Riad had a small swimming pool which was brilliant after a long day out in the heat of Marrakech and the kids loved it. One of the staff also arranged delivery of our evening meal as we were so tired on the first night.
Although it is a traditional Riad and I really liked it, the bathroom did not have a door but a curtain so this may not suit everyone. There also needs to be more hooks to hang up towels/clothes when taking a shower.
- mishka347 (10/5): Charming Riad in the Medina - Our days at Riad Alamir were wonderful. We quickly felt at home and were happy to step through the front door and into the calm courtyard every evening after a day in the Medina. Everyone who works there is very nice and always glad to be helpful. The breakfasts are delicious and when we asked to have dinner at the Riad it was excellent.
A great place to stay !
- CEEmma (8/5): Excellent location - Wonderfull staff who gave great advise for nearby restaurants, good room with not so great shower. Room was clean. Breakfast was very good with changing types of pancakes every day.The riad is located very near the city center and walking to djemma el fna was very easy. Would stay here again!
- szabiszabiszabi (10/5): Fantastic location, with friendly staff - The riad is a few minute walk from the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, but beware, approaching the riad for the first time is hard! You have to find your way in narrow streets, so be preparedd to download a map app and type the address in. The riad is at the end of the street (we turned back a few meters before, we couldn't find it without help). Everything but this is awesome, the staff, the stlye, the food(!!), the terrace... Would recommend and will stay here again.
- laurah546 (10/5): Stay here!! - WE loved this place. It was right in the heart of the Medina and so very convenient. Our host/manger was Rashid and he was so friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable, and he upgraded us to a larger room than we had reserved since he had it available. We had an early flight the next day and Rashid got up early to make us breakfast! While we were in Marrakech we visited the souks, the square, Baldi Palace and we watched the sun set from the Terrace at Grande Balcone Cafe.
- X6761YKmichaelk (10/5): Charming and Authentic Riad, great location and wonderful staff - Our family of 4, including two boys, 7y and 9 y, stayed mid Oct for 6 nights at Raid Alamir. We were incredibly happy with our stay as the Riad feels authentic and is complimented by its staff who did everything to make our stay special. Rachid was there every evening and for breakfast to discuss our plans and helped to organised trips and events. As mentioned in other reviews, I would accept the offer of the taxi transfer from the airport as the Riad is a little hard to find (part of the charm) the first time. The location is a few minutes walk from the Djemaa el Fna square which we visited every day. The boys loved the pool for a quick dip after a day of exploring. We chose to have breakfast included which was a huge meal that kept us going most of the day. Rachid also organised take out food when we go back late from our trip to the Atlas mountains. The Riad has a real homely feel and although you need to be aware your conversations carry around the whole Riad, it is fantastic value, and you quickly get to know others staying.
- davidbM8144CT (10/5): Atmospheric and traditional Riad - The challenge is finding it !! If you are arriving from the airport ask Amine (manager) to get you met there. About £6 for the transport which is well advised otherwise you WILL end up relying on locals for directions in the pedestrian only alleys. Comfortable rooms and two terraces. Great for catching the rays but have sun cream !! Good food but above all is the hospitality. The staff really care about you. Good base for exploring the medina. Area feels a bit 'edgy' but is safe if you walk confidently and don't rush about. At night each of the alley corners has a man holding an oil lamp to light the way. Mind the pavement along the main road outside the Bab Ksour entrance. Full of holes and broken slabs !!
- sylviag674 (10/5): A beautiful Riad at the heart of the Medina - We stayed for 4 days/3 nights at this lovely Riad. Our transfer from the airport was kindly arranged by Amine and all the staff Rachid and Fatima in particular were super helpful and really friendly. Breakfast were copious and the room we had was lovely and cool thanks to air conditioning. Given the punishing heat in August this was very welcome indeed. The pool is great and was big enough for our daughters to play in during the afternoon when temperatures soared.
Rachid kindly suggested a few places to eat and see and also arranged transport to get us to our next stop, Essaouira. All was made to ensure our stay was super smooth and this made our brief Marrakesh stay pretty much stress-free. So a big thank you from us.
- 322kateg (10/5): Friendly staff and great location - We were very happy with the Riad. It's only about 20 minutes from the airport, but can be difficult to find the first time you arrive so I recommend asking the riad to have someone meet you.
Our room was clean and tidy and beautifully decorated. The air-conditioning struggled, it only went down to 18. With the windows closed it was very quiet.
There were lots of areas within the riad to sit and relax outside, whether you wanted to be in the sun or the shade. The plunge pool is nice if you need to cool down. The whole riad is a bit of an oasis and extremely convenient, we found it very easy to walk everywhere.
The staff were helpful and very friendly. They were happy to accomodate the food times around what we were doing and would say stop for a chat when you saw them.
The fresh orange juice at breakfast was delicious. The breakfast food was all quite sweet and lots of carbs, but I think that is the norm. The dinner was very nice, although if you are a very fussy eater you might find yourself limited. I recommend at least trying it though, my partner was happy to just eat the meat. I felt that the staff had made a real effort and it was something different each night. Big portions though so don't feel you have to eat it all!
- RafaellaPolley (6/5): Friendly staff - Riad Alamir is just a 10 min walk from the lively jma el fna.
The room was clean, but the shower was broken, breakfast was alright and the staff were pleasant and helpful.
They also picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. Would go def go back.
- G8485ZTjosef (8/5): Very good place to stay - The Riad has a very good location, just 10 min away from the main square. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The bed is super comfy, after all day walking around that's what you really need. Breakfast is nice, pancakes, bread, fruit, juice, jam, butter...
The staff is superb Rasheed and Samira are great value to the place.
The only negative point I can give is that the transfer cost 15€ and on the last day we pay 70 DH for a public taxi.
If we will go back to Marrakesch for sure we'll stay here again.
- z0e90 (4/5): Frustrating stay - I waited some weeks to write this review, as I left the Riad very frustrated with its procedures and I wanted some time (and the rest of our stay in Morocco) to put our stay into perspective. I've decided I have very mixed feeling about our stay, so I've broken down the categories for the curious below:
Payment: I'm putting this first, as it is where most of our problems arose. The hotel advertises on booking.com that they accept credit cards and that you will pay for your stay at the hotel in the local currency. Great. We were prepared to pay our bill for four nights with our credit card. First, we were asked to pay our bill our second night there. Odd. Then, when we went to pay, we were told the credit card machine didn't work. When we went to pay in cash the next day (as we had to go take some out of the ATM), we were told we could pay with our credit card, but that the bank would charge 5% fee. Then, when we went to pay with our card, we were told we could only pay a portion of it with our card and would need to pay the extra night (as we had extended our stay) in cash. In the end, after quite some frustration and more temperament than I'm proud of, we paid a portion in cash and a portion on the card and were never charged the bank fee. So, after all that, here is my disclaimer -
*Most Riads in Morocco do not accept cards and if they do, there is almost always an additional 3-5% fee that they charge for the banks. (Restaurants and larger hotels build this fee into their prices.) Before you book, be sure to clarify how you can pay.*
Getting there: The Riad offered to send someone to meet us at the gate as the medina can be difficult to navigate when your first arrive. We took them up on their offer and also had them send a taxi to meet us at the train as we had no phone and were worried about timing and getting in contact if we weren't picked up. We were unpleasantly surprised by the 15 Euro price of the taxi, as we knew if we had taken one on our own it would have been closer to 15 dirham. Moral of the story, be sure to get the price of transport upfront, always. The guide to the hotel, however, was complimentary and quite useful. (As a side note TripAdvisor's downloaded map was a godsend during our stay! The Merrakech one is actually quite accurate and found us offline most of the time.)
Rooms: The room was quite spacious and was cleaned several times. The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was lovely. As others have mentioned, the bathroom is only separated from the room with a curtain, not a door, so that can get quite awkward even if you're staying with a significant other. We were some of the only guests during our stay, so the room was quiet enough, but I could imagine the noise would carry if you had loud neighbors.
Breakfast: Like most breakfasts in Morocco, theirs is mainly different breads and pancakes with cheese and jam. The coffee was weak, but the fresh orange juice was lovely. This is the breakfast you will find all over, so I suppose it is to be expected, but it is certainly nothing exciting nor is it a very well rounded way to start your day.
Service: The women who clean the rooms could not have been sweeter and did their job wonderfully. The night manager (who seemed to be the only manager), was overly welcoming to the point that it was slightly offputting. He was very careful to warn us to always ask the price of everything upfront when we were out, so it stung that we were so overcharged for the taxi at the end of our stay. Yes, it was our mistake for not asking the price upfront, but I feel the hotel should be forthcoming in its pricing since they are the first face of tourism. Additionally, the second to last day he asked to keep my passport while we went out, so as to refill out the tourist form. When I refused to leave it, he returned it without recording any information but then asked to keep the room key so that the ladies could clean the room. Our room had been cleaned every other day without us leaving our key, so I suspect this was all an attempt at an insurance policy so that we would not run out on the bill (despite the fact that all our things were still in the room). The whole thing was offputting and dishonest.
If you made it to the end, props. My advise? Pick somewhere else to stay, be sure to clarify everything, and expect to pay cash.
- Kootamc (8/5): Great refuge from the busy streets of Marrakech - Stayed in this Riad for 2 nights in September as we wanted something a little nicer after staying in hostels for quiet some time. It was a fantastic choice!
The interior design of the riad is very clean and modern. We were upgraded to a suite that had a large double bed which was super comfortable, as well as a bunk bed, bathroom, table/chairs, air conditioning and tea/coffee facilities. The room was very clean and spacious. Just outside of the door there was a little area where you could sit outdoors and relax which overlooked the pool. The pool was small, but perfect for a dip after walking through the hectic streets of Marrakech.
The hotel was located about 10 minutes on foot to Jamaa El Fna which is the main attraction in Marrakech. Rashid who worked on the front desk was nice and extremely helpful. There are small shops just down the laneway where you can buy snacks and water.
Beware of young men waiting at the entrance to the alleyway trying to befriend you and offering to help guide you to the hotel. They will take you to the door and demand money. If you would like assistance make sure you set a price of 10 dirhams beforehand.
The breakfast at the riad was fantastic with a nice spread of pastries, bread, tea, juice and coffee. I loved everything about this riad however if there is one piece of advice I could offer, it is not to book the desert tour through them.
We did some research and the cheapest quote we got on the street was for 700 dirhams. We paid 780 through the riad with promises of a nice air-conditioned coach and a good guide and were not told that half of the tour inclusions were not included in the price. If you're booking in Marrakech, no matter how much you pay for that tour, it is more then likely going to be exactly the same from every sales person so may as well try to find the cheapest one.
The riad itself though is perfect and I would certainly recommend this for couples or friends.
- scootertooternow (10/5): Lovely place to call home in Marrakech - Rasheed the owner is a very helpful, friendly man. I wish I could remember the cooks name, as she was fantastic. The two dinners I ate at the Riad were absolutely wonderful and tasty. The Riad is very clean and you feel very safe and comfortable.
