Our room was just lovely. Our dinner in the evening as well as breakfast the following morning were excellent and the serving staff were charming and efficient. All was lovely.
- SANDRA (5/5): Malmesbury is lovely, had a good time. - Is a nice hotel, the communal rooms are good, The bed was comfortable, our view over the street and church was nice. The daily room cleaning was good. Because of the shape of the bath it was impossible to shower (over the bath) without drowning the floor and having the shower curtain sticking to you. The beam over the bath also meant difficult to avoid banging ones head. Would have liked a bigger bed. Breakfast could be improved, nicer brown toast and fruit. The bowl of tinned peaches was empty and despite a request for some none appeared, there was just fresh apples and what seemed like tinned pineapple. Breakfast staff on Wednesday morning were much better than those on Tues and Monday.

Location good and hotel does have a good vibe , a bit quirky in a good way, relaxed. Room was in annex which was fine but outdoor / communal area at rear needs a bit of attention.

- 162clareo (10/5): AMAZING!!! - I spent Easter weekend here for my birthday and had the most amazing experience. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the staff and service were fantastic. I had the best cocktails I think I have ever tasted courtesy of Callum, these were his own creations and were simply wonderful. The hotel and the building is really special and has a unique energy and vibe. I would 100% go back again and again and can’t wait for my next visit.

And having two living rooms is amazing experience. One for kids watching TV like in cinema and another for grownups to have a rest.

Ordered triple cooked kitchen says they are the same thing. Chicken burger brioche bun not toasted so delivered two soggy baps.

Have been visiting this hotel, mostly for meals rather than staying, for over 40 years, The downstairs layout has been completely changed over this time and has been modernised in a quirky luxurious style by the current owners, but retains much of it's traditional charm. Great selection of books sitting around. Staff very nice. Good breakfast. All the staff, including cleaners and chamber staff greet you as you move around the hotel. Pretty garden and outside spaces. Minor things, Dining menu seemed very ordinary for such a nice hotel, so we ate elsewhere. Breakfast was very good, cold buffet selection and then hot food cooked to order. I had an excellent egg Benedict, my husband had a customised full English but our seats in the dining room were too low for the table height, which made me feel like a four-year-old, so check that out before choosing your table! The teapots look nice but dribbled badly when poured.

- Kledi (9/5): Perfect gem in Malmesbury - The location is terrific. We stayed at 68 Abbey Row which was a three storey townhouse. It had all the amenities we needed and a perfect distance for exploring Malmesbury. We had a three year old and newborn baby, so going up and down the stairs across the three floors was a little challenging, but all very manageable.

The bedding seemed soft and comfortable initially but uncomfortable to sleep in. The hand shower did not fit in the receptacle. The shower itself was good once we worked out how to use it but should have had a user manual. The towel rail was cold. The bedside lights are not bright enough to read by.

- Chris (9/5): A must stay if in the area. - Excellent hotel, I have stayed there a few times now and it never disappoints. The atmosphere and rooms are brilliant, I was lucky enough to be in room 18 on this occasion, first class. The breakfast was also excellent on the first morning. Unfortunately I ordered poached eggs with my breakfast on the second morning which were in effect hard boiled eggs without the shell, somewhat over cooked. Nevertheless, although disappointing, this was a minor issue and does not detract from my high opinion of the Hotel.

Our room, though small, was comfortable. Value for money didn’t feel great - we paid £255 for one night with breakfast for quite a small room with a small shower room - the shower room had no shelves or any surface to put toothbrushes or general clutter. We struggled to find space in the hotel car park. Some kind of event was on in the lounge bar so we were ushered to a conservatory area which despite heaters, was quite cold and uninviting. It was a Saturday so understand it will be busy but not to be able to use the lounge bar when paying a premium price was a disappointment.

- Shelley (8/5): Comfortable hotel, pleasant welcoming staff and very good food set in the heart of Malmesbury. - Welcome prosecco drink in the lounge upon arrival, really made you feel at home. Breakfast was exceptional. The cooked breakfast was Well presented and tasted wonderful . Lots of choices. Loved the self-serve cereals, fruits & yoghurts, not having to wait for service is really nice. Dinner was equally good. The cheese soufflé really hit the spot! Our room was a 'classic' overlooking the street and the Abbey to the side. Perhaps a trifle warm at night as the weather had turned mild after all the cold days but very comfortable with two sofa chairs by the window. Great gadgets such as the Dyson hairdryer, alongside retro phone. The fridge was much appreciated along with the coffees and teas. Lack of consideration shown by others parking in the confined car park, when the spaces were plenty big enough and they did not have to park over their line, restricting space to drivers entry door.

The carpet was stained, the bathroom was tired and toilet old and stained. Noisy at night and not great sleep quality. Reception said they couldn't do anything as it was the restaurant guests.
- Dodgeman20 (10/5): A 4-star+ historic haven - The Old Bell Hotel claims to be 'England's Oldest Hotel', which may well be true. More importantly, it's a homely haven in the centre of the historic town of Malmesbury in the southern Cotswolds. With a casual yet chic vibe, The Old Bell was obviously popular even in the middle of this cold, wet February. We enjoyed two nights in a gloriously warm and colourful room. The bathroom was small but the bed was large and comfortable. The public rooms are delightfully furnished, with quirky touches giving an air of confident informality which we particularly enjoyed. Food portions were more than ample at our two dinners and breakfasts, and the staff were friendly throughout. We found this to be an efficiently run dog-friendly hotel, which was a delight to return to after a day enjoying the ever-present sense of history in the town, the beautiful Abbey and the interesting museum. They also have adjacent town houses which can accommodate friends and family, another bonus to a stay which can only be described as faultless.
- Discover32959353354 (4/5): A lovely hotel- but please forget your silly “residents only” rules - My wife and I live near Malmesbury. We have visited The Old Bell dozens of times over the past few years. And we’ve enjoyed it since its new owners arrived and re-imagined it as a modern chic location. We’ve enjoyed meals, cocktails and celebrations here. We’ve brought friends and colleagues down from London and it was a little landmark on nights out when we’ve tried to show off the town. But sadly it has missed the mark badly the past two times we’ve tried to visit. For some reason the hotel has introduced a “residents only” policy for some parts of the hotel on special occasions. Yesterday we wanted to sit in the bar to buy a bottle of champagne and cocktails to start off our night out. But we were awkwardly told by an embarrassed staff member (who knew us by name from previous visits) that we couldn’t sit in the lounge or bar. But we could try the Tyger bar. There were plenty of seats in the man lounge/bar by the way. We walked through and were trying to choose between three seats until we were moved on. We did have a look at the Tyger bar, but it’s cold and dark, and feels like an apres ski place. Good fun in the summer I suspect but not the chic start to the night the Old Bell has offered in the past. My wife was dressed up for night out and we didn’t much fancy shivering in our coats under a heat lamp. Anyway, we left feeling a bit sad and went to the Greyhound, who welcomed us with open arms for a nice bottle of champagne and 4 superb negronis. They were also fully booked for Valentine’s Day, but they made room for us and got a decent boost of business too. Please revisit this residents only thing, it’s caught us out twice now (last time was at Christmas). We go to plenty of other high end hotels for drinks, and I haven’t seen a residents only sign in place at any of them. It feels a bit small-town petty. I don’t think we’ll bother coming back until you can find a better solution to make all your customers feel welcome.

Restaurant moved to Lounge area, we were in the old restaurant now the Lounge arae. £72 for two two cours lunches with a glass of Malbec and a ginger beer. Choises, virtually non existent. Haloumi - tasteless and chewy, lamb scotch egg runny yolk but little taste. Fish and chis, can't go wrong except the fish was over cooked.e Chicken burger I left nearly all of it as it really was poor, totally tasteless and stringly cheese, best part was the brioch bun, left most of the fries as I really was so disappointed. Itt has all changed and not for the better. Not so long ago when you sat down you had wonderful warm bread rolls with butter, worth going just for them - nothing this time. When asked by the waitress what we thought of the meal I said one of the worst I have ever had, well she did ask. After supporting the Bell over so many years we won;t be returning. Shame. Terrible experience.

I'm elderly and I found the reception staff polite but not really interested in the customer. I phoned ahead about the car parking and really needed to know that I should look for the road beside the Inn. I was not told this. The server in the evening was exceptionally helpful though. I liked my room but did report the malfunctioning shower and loose shower clip.

Beautiful, interesting, homely, eclectic decor, fabulous waiter (Finn) and just delicious food - way better savory/sweet ratio than a normal afternoon tea. Everything was perfect and would definitely go again.

Lovely architecture and welcoming atmosphere. Mismatched furniture. It would have been better to have more period furniture, although we did like the quirks of the giraffes.

Our room was amazingly spacious and very quiet. Thought breakfast was great. The reception staff, bar staff and serving staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel had really good decor, and there were two bars, the main bar which had lots of nooks and cranny’s and a ski lodge theme bar. It was quite pricey

- 260sheenaf (4/5): Very disappointing coffee with a friend . - I live near this hotel and went there with a local friend for a good coffee and catch up . We were served by a very nice young waitress who told us that we couldn't sit in the first sitting room as work was being done on it but we could sit in the other rooms but would have to be gone by 11.30 as they had tables in there reserved for tea ! So we had coffee in the middle room ,no work as far as I could see was being done in the first sitting room but the heating was off so not very welcoming. Over our coffee we were approached twice by staff to be told that we had to be out by 11.45am.This did not make for a very relaxing coffee as all .They never offered to seat us elsewhere which they should had done and we felt as if we were being hurried out of the place .To be honest we would have liked to have stayed longer and ordered another coffee but we left .This is due to young untrained staff it was not their fault they were polite but just didn't manage the situation well .The owner need to cone over from the US and manage this place or get a good manager.This is a top county hotel not a little cafe you should do better a disappointing visit .

From the moment we booked in we were treated royally by the efficient and friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. We had a welcome glass of champagne and mince pie. Our room was cosy and warm with very comfortable beds. The food throughout our stay was exceptional, every meal from breakfast through to dinner was truly memorable. We cannot wait to visit again. From the time we arrived we were welcomed with mince pies, prosecco and mulled wine. Our room was large with all the facilities for a comfortable stay. All the food we had was exceptional, the chefs presented outstanding meals and the service from the very friendly staff was first class. Highly recommend this Christmas package.

The building itself is stunning, and we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade and a free glass of bubbles on arrival, which was a lovely touch - thank you! The hotel is very accommodating to dogs, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cosy break with their furry friend. There are a couple of areas that could be improved. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening, and unfortunately the wine list was quite limited and expensive. Additionally, when we came down for breakfast on both mornings, we had to sit in the lounge with our dog and found the service to be slow - on each occasion I had to go and ask to place our order.
- kata971 (6/5): Delicious food, beautiful hotel but… - Food absolutely amazing, although kids menu meals didn’t feel age-appropriate (massive sausages, huge battered hunks of fish). Hotel decor and Christmas decs just gorgeous. But table felt bare and unfestive for 20 Dec and we were disappointed the menu didn’t contain any obviously seasonal/festive options. Service was inattentive and exhausting honestly, which was surprising as we were the only guests there at one point. This was meant to be a super special meal with family ahead of Christmas but we felt ignored and unwelcome at times.

O pequeno almoço é de grande qualidade e tem várias opções quentes feitas na hora. Oa espaços comuns era muito cómodos e acolhedores, perfeitos para descontrair. A localização é bastante boa para explorar sobretudo a zona sul dos Cotswolds.
