Guest Reviews
- Gabe (10/5): - I appreciated how every bed had an outlet, and wifi was available (albeit hard to log on at first). The beds were comfy and the shower rooms provided soap/shampoo/conditioner. Also loved how I could walk straight out for a drink at the bar (didn't try the restaurant). My only disappointment was that the complimentary breakfast offering was paltry, but it feels silly to expect a continental breakfast considering the great price.
- Mo (8/5): - I liked the vibe, high quality of the materials, cleanness, and how close it is from downtown.
I didn't like the noise on thursdays, fridays and sundays, as loud music stoped only at 2 or 3 am
- Heather (8/5): - Hostel is located in a great location. It was super easy to get around downtown from here. I felt safe the entire time. Staff was very helpful when I had an issue or a concern. My only request is to put some shelving in the showers and a dressing room in the dorms so we can have more privacy to change our clothing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a great place! Guest area was so clean and organised. Comfortable beds with great privacy for each bunk and a locker. Fantastic!
- rosie (10/5): - The kitchen is soacious and there is a lot of seatinf in the common areas. Definitely a cute place to stay while visiting Austin.
- Bianca (10/5): 10/10 would stay here again - Great Hostel! There is a lot of privacy for a dorm style thanks to the curtains for each bed. Also comfortable mattress and spacious. Each bed has a big locked cubby for possessions. The bar on the weekend is a pretty popular place with a DJ. Staff was very friendly.
- Vinícius (10/5): Excelente - Bom local, ótimo custo-benefício comparado aos hotéis por perto.
Hotel muito tranquilo e limpo. Bom atendimento. Recomendo sem medo.
- MARIO (10/5): - My stay was excellent. Music was a bit to loud, but it was expected.
- George (10/5): - Freaking awesome
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hostel has a bar and restaurant. Good public space. And literally walking distance to the convention center/ downtown.
- Ben (10/5): Satisfied - Great place
- Ignacio (10/5): Great place to stay on budget! - It is a very nice place! The hostel is very clean and has a great variety of seats and ambiance. It also helps that it has a very nice coffee and bar right in it.
The beds are very comfortable and the room (with six bunk beds) is clean and quiet (even if there’s music outside at the bar).
The only thing that was complicated to operate are the safes that the room has, but once you get it is easy (and if not you can ask the staff to open or close it for you.
The area seems lonely but it is very close to 6th street and downtown, walkable distance.
There are also great places around to have coffee, buy some groceries, go out at night, and do whatever you fancy.
The kitchen is fairly big and clean, breakfast is served early and consists of fruit, yogurt, granola, tea and milk.
Last, but not least, is the internet connection that works very well. A fast internet to do whatever.
Mine was a business trip, so I would absolutely recommend it to stay on budget and get to know a little of Austin’s way and feel.
- Jordan (6/5): - Big mistake on not having a "real" free breakfast included.
Mind you, it is a hostel but the options included fruit, coffee, granola and yougart.
If they would have had a decent breakfast included for a $200 room (as an exception) it would have at least made it worth it.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - If you like spending hundreds of dollars for a barely usable, tiny room with 0 amenities and literally one towel, come here.
- Cat (10/5): - How unique and creative everything is. Brilliant space for an imaginative getaway
- Giovanni (6/5): - Josh, who checked me in at midnight, was welcoming and chill. The beds and especially the pillow was uncomfortable. The place looks great, was always clean and had a bar. The price was fantastic for it's location. WiFi was slow. I've had much better amenities at other hostels.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great food and accommodation, beautiful space, cocktails are must haves, and affordable
- Michael (10/5): - Very comfortable beds. Towels and shower amenities were appreciated as was the light breakfast. Convenient location for me stumbling in from Dirty 6th or the Eastside.
- Andrew (10/5): Favorite Native! - Loved the friendly staff, cleanliness and location. I can’t wait to visit again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable and convenient - Had a nice trip to Austin for a conference. The Native was in good walking distance to where I needed to be.
- Carlos (10/5): I loved it! - Great place to stay. Across the street from downtown, rooms are quiet, service is great, place is comfortable, restaurant and bar in the same building, work area, large free parking, beautiful place.
- Amyris (10/5): Lugar descolado - Foi maravilhosa! Amei o lugar, as pessoas, tudo!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient and Affordable - This hostel is an innovative combination of popular bar and shared accommodation. This combination provides benefits and challenges. The benefits include on-site dining and social opportunities. The challenges include late night music that can be too loud combined with air conditioning that can be too cold in the separate semi-private hostel portion of the building. I like it that they have a kitchen available for guests but wished the coffee service would have started earlier than 8 AM. So it is a mixed review but I still was left with an overall favorable impression. Also I would note that if you have a downtown event this hostel is within easy walking distance of the convention center etc and the prices are much more reasonable than those offered by the big hotels.
- Mayra (6/5): - The hotel staff was really nice. However, the first night there the sink faucet broke and flooded the my room and the two rooms next door. The sink did not have shutoff valves under it and the staff couldn't find the main one to shut it off for about an hour and a half.
- Vanessa (10/5): - It was my first Hostel experience. Super clean establishment, very friendly staff. I decided I don't enjoy the hostel experience because another guest ate my clearly marked food. But the staff and facility were all excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great downtown location, fun vibe - It's a swanky little hostel with a good bar that serves as a popular night spot. The only issue is that since it is a popular place at night, parking may be difficult.
- Kohji (8/5): Good - Fairly good. I will stay next time I visit Austin.
- Daniel (8/5): KOOL 😎 - Awesome staff and atmosphere!
- Andrew (10/5): Native ROCKS THE HOUSE! Outstanding ✌ - These people did everything perfect in every way! Accommodated my crazy schedule. Sarah the.barista you were great and wonderful! You have an open marriage proposal anytime from me...A.wonderful person you are. Having.stayed over 5000 nights on the road, I would say the native os the best overall. Cant wait to come.back.
- Alisa (10/5): Lovely hostel for grownups - This hostel was lovely. Although it is a hostel, it was definitely marketed towards late 20's/early 30's travelers. I loved the little details like the viewing room for the World Cup, the local artisan market, tango lessons, etc. The (paid) brunch was also excellent. The free breakfast was simple but good, and I appreciated having free towels, sheets, and blankets, as well as two showers in each room. The staff were lovely and willing to help out with everything, including local recommendations. My only tiny complaint was that, being on foot (didn't rent a car) and female, the neighborhood seemed a little unsafe for walking at night. Probably better to use Lyft to get a little closer to the center of town if you don't rent a car. Everything else was great!
- Megan (10/5): Cool hostel close to downtown Austin - I had a really great stay at Native Hostel in Austin. The bar and cafe are really cool, and it’s easy to walk into town or to Rainey street to the bars. The bunks have lights, outlets and curtains which really gives you some personal space even in a dorm. I would definitely stay here again!
- Tobias (8/5): Pleasantly Surprised - I have never stayed in a hostel before this and didn't know what to expect. I booked a private room for a conference that I was attending. The room was comfortable and clean. It was also quiet and I did not experience any interruptions in sleep. My only inconvenience was that there was no washcloth provided and I had not anticipated that so I went and purchased a couple. The bar/restaurant were nice and I enjoyed a meal and drinks there. I would stay here again if I am in Austin!
- John (10/5): Great place - I'd really say it's more of a bar and restaurant with a hostel attached to it. So it can definitely get very busy or loud in the building. But the accommodation itself is one of the best I've seen and there's plenty to do in the area.
- Shannon (6/5): - I had to leave 2 days early or get fired from my job, and the hostel wouldn’t refund me. The hostel claimed all food and drink at the bar were 10% off since I was a guest, but not one of the staff asked if o was a guest as they were serving me, and I didn’t get the discount- so maybe they were unaware. The bunks aren’t light tight, I could feel every movement of my bunk mate. There’s no where to hang your towels to dry, except on the bunks like back in boot camp. There is no where to put personal hygiene items in the shower stalls except the floor, and no where to put personal items when you’re in the bunks, so you have to sleep with your cell phone, or book that you were reading- I woke up on top of my stuff more than once. The rooms were too hot and muggy, while the common areas were over air conditioned. Because of the temperature I found it difficult to get any real sleep. The etched glass windows had a giant gap of clear glass around the edges so anyone in the common areas could get a peek into the room as they were walking by, which meant I changed either inside the shower or in the toilet. The hostel was loud on the weekends because of the bar as well, and in some weird gentrifying yet still ghetto location right under the freeway, where cars on the frontage road refused to slow for pedestrians in the crosswalk. I was almost hit twice. It looks nice, but that’s the point, you’re supposed to be so impressed by the finishes that you’ll be willing to overlook how crappy
- Abraham (2/5): Bad custom service and communication - I never made it and i received an email saying there was a problem with my booking so i took thats as i lost the room and a day later i was charged for the room without checking in and i called as soon as i found out and i was told to call the next day....and when i did they told me that i didnt cancel but they didnt let me the day before
- Andrey (8/5): Cool place - The place is super cool. I literally had a night club outside of my hotel room. I went to sleep before the night was over and DJ was still on but sound isolation was good and I had no problem falling asleep.
The only con is breakfast. Don't expect anything good there. We had old biscuits, granola, milk, yogurt, and fruit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing! - Amazing!
- Polina (10/5): Luxury hostel - With in walking distance to downtown Austin. Very clean, architecturally beautiful, convenient, safe, secure, comfortable. This is a hidden treasure! My only suggestion would be to bring earplugs with you because the hostel is adjacent to a bar and restaurant, thus late at night music is loud. Other guests are young professionals. Loved it and would happily stay here again!
- Charles (10/5): Hip, trendy hostel walking distance to 6th Street - Trendy restaurant and bar out front was busy and noisy until 2am on weekend, but two doorways separated the hostel, which remained quiet. Bunk room was clean, and each room had a private bath and shower. Each guest had a locker under the bed. In all, it was pretty upscale for a hostel. The trendy bar could be considered a bonus for those looking to party.
- Justin (10/5): Best Hostel I've ever Stayed At - Best Hostel I've ever Stayed at. Clean, hip, fun, Great location. Awesome hostel, Awesome beds witg privacy curtain,Great food in the restaurant and then the lobby turns into a fun popular club with a DJ at night. 5 minute walk to Downtown Austin!
- Timothy (10/5): Really solid hostel in a great location - I was really impressed by this place. It was my first "real" hostel experience and I was not expecting much, but chose here because anything nearby that wasn't a hostel was at least twice the price. The food here was good, it's just about right in downtown Austin, and everything in there was really nice and felt private enough. I was in a room with 4 others and there were no issues. The main concern I had initially was the area it was in, but that turned out to be a non-issue, even walking totally alone to and from here (the highway underpass gets pretty dark but even that is close enough to populated areas that I wasn't nervous when actually doing it).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This has been the best hostel experience that I have had. I do a bit of traveling so I have stayed in quite a few but I liked this one the best
- Verified traveler (4/5): Great Place But not Good Value for Money - It was a really great place to stay but at night it was loud, we did not had a dresser or any place to put our clothes, the heater was not working in our room and we did not have a hairdryer and not enough towels and the breakfast was not complete at 9am.
In short our expectations for ~$200 a night per room were not met, it is still a hostel. When you are ok with that and like the hostel feeling, this makes a lot of sense but in our case.
- Toma (8/5): Awesome environment! - The social space were amazing, I was very impressed on the quality of food coming from the open kitchen. The bar area was having a small special event with some nicely dressed people. There was a separate table area to work on the computer during after hours and you could still get drinks at the bar until 2am, late night cap was perfect.
