Guest Reviews
- Felicity (4/5): ABSENT HOST, BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK! - It was clean and the finish was to a decent standard. I would NOT recommend that you stay here unless you are 100% certain that you will not have any issues, as the host may as well not exist. The bedding was feather, and I’m allergic. My bad, I forgot to inform the property beforehand, so slept in my clothes under a blanket for the first night. However, the host NEVER responded despite repeated attempts to contact them, and I am actually yet to receive anything more than an automated message from them.
There is only 1 key, so if you lose it or find yourself in an emergency situation, you could be utterly stranded on the street without your possessions. It seems utterly bizarre considering the property is clearly aiming for a high end finish, with a price tag to match.
The check in message I received was also unnecessarily threatening and not at all welcoming. Here are some choice excerpts:
‘If the housekeeper arrives at 10am & you haven’t left, your card will be charged a fee of £50. Please let me know if there are any issues upon arrival by 7pm. If a non-emergency issue arises we will not be able to rectify until the following day if notified after 7pm.’
‘If you have not notified me of a dog staying & payment hasn’t been made you will be reported to the booking platform & they will recover the monies.’
‘If any of these rules are broken, you may be asked to leave without a refund, deposits will be taken & extra charges may occur. We have 24/7 security team to handle any disruptive guests & they will remove you off the premises.’
Interesting that they have ‘24/7 security’ but no one to actually provide any help!
Lastly, facilities the property says it has, but I saw no sign of:
-Cleaning products: there was about 1/5 of a bottle of heavily watered down washing up liquid to last 5 nights, and a spray bottle of some detergent that o didn’t use.
-Toiletries: there was hand wash in the kitchen and bathroom, but nothing else.
- Sebastian (10/5): Perfect base for exploring England’s southwest. - Large, clean, and overall nice Apartment. Close to the railway station, a small supermarket, and a beautiful park. There’s a bit of mold on the upper bedroom window. However, I’m mildly allergic to mold and didn’t notice anything, so it wasn’t a real issue.
The water pressure of the shower is a bit low.
The bedroom window isn’t soundproofed well.
- Keira (9/5): - Brilliant location, everything is within walking distance and parking isn’t far. The flat itself is lovely and exactly like the pictures The water pressure wasn’t as high as I would usually like but that’s probably me being picky!
- Fabian (1/5): - BEWARE - Last-Minute Cancellation & Unprofessional Host
After booking nearly four months in advance, the host cancelled my reservation on the very morning of my check-in, citing overbooking. This left me in serious distress, having to frantically search for and book alternative accommodation while literally on the train to Southampton.
There was no prior message, no apology, and no assistance—only a cold, automated cancellation. The behaviour was utterly unprofessional and unacceptable.
I was only protected because I booked via Booking.com, who processed my refund. Without that platform's safeguards, this situation would have been even worse.
Do not rely on this host. They are irresponsible and will leave you stranded without warning. I would never attempt to book with them again.
- Norizal (7/5): Good for long stay and near shops - Its well equipped for long stays. A bit small for 3 but bearable. Good location near many halal shops. Kitchen is good. Washing n drying machine. Sofabed large. View of backyard. Owner did not respond since 6 days we checked in. So difficult to locate items needed like extra blankets and towels . Some items like soaps shampoo and tissue we had to buy. No parking space .
- Apiched (1/5): I will not booking again - Everything is good but I forget phone I was ask them to send to me back. Them keeping my phone Room nice
- Josephine (6/5): Good flat. Needs some maintenance. - Lovely flat. Comfy bed and sofa. Great location Only 2 of 7 spotlights worked in kitchen area and 1 of 2 in lounge. Made flat very dark.
Dining shelf/table coming away from wall.
Only got key codes to doors on the day of arrival once we were travelling.
Parking more difficult nearby than anticipated.
- Charles (8/5): Ideal location for a solo traveler provided by a great host - Good location close to the train station and buses.
Plenty of pubs (Beards & Boards is highly recommended) and restaurants and shops all close by.
Having a balcony with a table and chairs was great especially as there is no dining table.
Clean and comfortable and had everything that I needed.
Easy check-in / key access. Jade is a great host and very responsive. Very minor things:
The apartment is in a good location, but the views, especially from the balcony are not very scenic.
Some late night noise from the nearby bars on Friday and Saturday nights might bother others.
The upstairs apartment was ideal for me a solo traveler, but for two people would feel a bit cramped especially when it's too cold for the balcony.
- Louise (10/5): Great location. - Great location, clean and comfortable. Communication from Jade was excellent. Nothing.
- Terence (10/5): Great accommodation and a fantastic host. - Had a fantastic stay for business. Accommodation Central to everything. Needed to work on the isle of Wight, short (20mins) to the ferry. Host was every responsive to my questions. Would consider staying again for either business or a short break.
- Kim (8/5): Very good -
- Alana (9/5): Superb - It's a superb location for the city centre, less than a 10 minute walk from West Quay. Also it's on a quiet side street, so not loud, but walk 50 yards and you have a huge variety of pubs, bars, takeaways and restaurants. There's a convenience store at the top of the road and a Sainsbury's local within 100 yards. The apartment was super clean, 10/10. The bed was very comfortable. The little outside space is also nice as it allows fresh air in and out really well. Lovely shower with rainfall shower head. Other than lack of cups and cutlery the rest of the kitchen is really well equipped. Full oven with hob. Full washing machine, and a compact dishwasher, with all of the necessary tablets etc ready for you to use. Smart tv and wifi which was nice. Really good communications from our host and check in and check out were very easy to complete independently with the instructions given. Also loved being able to take my dogs there. They felt right at home. It's a compact space so couldn't be helped, but due to shape, we had to open and close the sofa bed daily so we could get in and out of the property. Also, there is not really a lot of space for clothing. A chest of drawers in the bedroom would have helped, even if just either side of the bed instead of tables. The parking restrictions on the road it is on are the harshest in the city. We found out there are temporary parking permits available through the city council, I would happily pay extra if they had been available to use as to park for a day in the area was over £10. There were only 2 mugs in the property and 1 dessert spoon. We had to take it in turns to have a hot drink in the mornings!
- Gemma (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (8/5): Enjoyed the stay; fix these couple of items and it would be perfect! - Lovely location; easily accessible to all amenities; nice balcony No coffee maker as advertised (American expectations; no hot water (specific instructions "Do not touch the water thermostat")
- Ssogra13 (9/5): Loved The Old Stables, will definitely be back -
- Jose (4/5): - The property manager was not reasonable in our request for a compensation settlement being that the flat had no heating one evening. She said that I should have called her to which I responded that I hadn’t that evening due to the lateness and opted to report it in the morning. She was not accommodating but curt. I further want all to know that even though the place is supposed to be smoke free it really isn’t as a person can smoke in an outdoor door space outside the bedroom. All smoke odors permeate the bedroom pillows and covers. The place does not provide any tea or coffee as an amenity. The shower head leaks from above. Truly a shame!
- Shola (10/5): Exceptional - Nice and spacely clean apartment
- Leslie (7/5): Good -
- Sharon (7/5): Good base but did expect more with regards to the simple things. - The location was perfect for our trip and within walking distance of The Mayflower and lots of lovely places to eat.
The bed was very comfortable. No baking trays or foil etc.
No dish cloth for cleaning
No tea, coffee, salt and pepper etc
No table and chair to eat dinner from (be careful which apartment you choose as the downstairs did have breakfast bar)
- Lowry (1/5): Bad -
- William (9/5): Superb - Balcony! and a well lit apt.
Clean ! Laundry soap and a cloth for cleaning could have been supplied.
- Emilia (10/5): Brilliant location, great homley appartment, clean with everything in it which you will need . Amazing host - Really lovely property , clean and nicely decorated. Highly recommended. I will definitely book again . Thank you Nothing to not like
- Sunardi (8/5): Very good -
- Julian (10/5): All good - Very good location and great hoast Nothing
- Julien (10/5): It’s absolutely spot on for a short stay :) - Very well located property, good value for money and Jade was a pleasure to communicate with.
- Selene (10/5): lovely stay in a great part of town. felt very looked after - great location. really cute property. everything you need. Jade was amazing loved it all
- Daniel (10/5): great communication from the start made this a great place to use for my team , Would highly recommend staying here . - high standard of decor and warm cosy home from home feel nothing to dislike
- Philip (7/5): Good -
- Laura (9/5): Superb - The apartment was exactly what we needed in the part of town we wanted to stay. It was clean, well furnished, and comfortable. Will definitely stay there again when visiting Southampton.
- Hayley (8/5): Very good -
- Clarkson (7/5): November 2022 Stay from Vancouver, Canada - Great location, walkable to everything. Bed was very good. Appreciated that heat and lights were turned on, when we arrived at night. Kitchen was well equipped. Square footage was misleading as you lose a lot of space due to the staircase in the middle of the room. The bed chesterfield was very uncomfortable. Privacy issues in lower unit. The pic is of the upper unit, which we would rent, next time. Stopper doesn't hold water, shower hose connection sprays out water. As a holiday flat, basics like salt and pepper should be provided because no one that I know packs that in their suitcase.
- Ashley (8/5): Very good -
- Sanaa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Murshidah (4/5): Okay for a couple of nights - Great location, modern, clean It was freezing cold, the Salus portable heating control panel did not work, I assume it has run out of battery, as it didn’t turn on. The hose for the handheld shower also needs replacing, as water was coming out of everywhere, so not really usable. Also, although the sheets were clean, the actual mattress/ duvet smells, so wasn’t pleasant.
- Martin (8/5): pleased - clean and tidy close to town and had every thing you needed the only thing I did not like was the fact you had to be out by 10 am on the Sunday morning or be charged 50
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location - could walk everywhere and very well appointed.
- Oli (2/5): Don't stay here - better options elsewhere in city - Rude owner following the iron staining my shirt with brown liquid - refused to compensate, property too hot with non-functioning controls, less kitchen equipment than you would find in your back pocket, shower so small you touch the sides, very over priced. I stay in Southampton a lot for business and there are far better options elsewhere for a better price and a better service... Avoid this property
- Henry (8/5): Great place to stay on business. - A great place to stay whilst working in Southampton on business. There are pubs, restaurants and a Sainsbury’s located in walking distance. The flat is clean and comfortable. Great rainfall shower and modern kitchen. The guests in the flat above were quite noisy which made it difficult to nod off, but this isn’t the fault of the flat. The kitchen is a great relief and means you can cook your own food instead of eating out all the time - note it’s not as fully equipped as some so you may need to improvise. The only thing that let it down was that the towels hadn’t been dried properly so had a musty smell.
- Verified traveler (10/5): My default when I am in Southampton for business - A lovely apartment. I have stayed in both upstairs and downstairs and it is now the first place that I look any time that I am in Southampton for business. There is a full kitchen which is nice and easy to use and a great overall aesthetic in the apartment. The bed is very comfortable also. The only thing of note is I do not believe there is a freezer from what I could find.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good property in great location with full amenities. Booked through Expedia but initially didn’t hear back from property when contacted via Expedia. Once we found an alternate contact email, response was prompt.
- Jacqueline (4/5): Not for me - Found the place to be very hot at night and noisy. Also everything to make a cup of tea except milk which I had expected to be available but that might have been my error.
- Fiona (10/5): Good location - Modern apartment. - Nice little apartment, might be a bit tight with 4 people. There is no freezer and there is a cleaning charge which isn't advertised before booking.
- Victoria (8/5): Really Cute - Really cute apartment.
- Naomi (8/5): - Helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay in Southampton, host really pleasant and apartment spotlessly clean. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again, and located in walking distance to most place in Southampton.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A nice clean and central place. However, additional cleaning charge was requested, which was not specified before booking. No facilities to leave luggage for the day after chrckout ( which is standard in most places).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The apartment is lovely and in a brilliant area for southampton. Multistorey car park is less than 5 min walk away.
- Steve (10/5): 5 star A MUST STAY - First of all the apartment was stunning nicely layed out second the location was fantastic right next to the center just rever there is no parking we payed £9 a day at a multi story Round the corner
