Guest Reviews
- Nuan Anong (7/5): ok - comfortable bathrroom water leak & out dated
- Daniel Draper (10/5): -
- Kristian (9/5): Anbefalelsesværdig - Morgenmaden god Elevatoren var i uorden
- Meirion (5/5): Comfortable and adequate - The location of the hotel was perfect for my needs. Very central and close to the bus station. The breakfast was very limited, but adequate for my needs. The rooms are a little tired but they are clean and comfortable. There is no bar at the hotel, but there is a vending machine for beer etc. The big plus were the staff, who were very friendly and one spoke perfect English. There was also a very decent swimming pool. I cannot say that I did not like anything. You get what you pay for in these small Northern towns, and I find it difficult to criticise what is normal for this area
- Alex (10/5): -
- Bojana (10/5): - Eazy going hotel, kind staff and paceful.
Swimming pool added value, breakfast various food. Room with a sunset.
- Emmyna (8/5): -
- Deborah (2/5): Not clean, Old and in need of renovations. -
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Werner (8/5): Empfelenswert - Preisleistung bestens,Sauberkeit und Personal ausgezeichnet.Busbahnhof zu Fuß erreichbar
- Borsato (8/5): -
- Sarah (4/5): - Hotel has not been decorated for 50 years, it's in a time warp... but beds and sheets were OK and plenty of hot water in the bathroom. Restaurants in hotel were not open, it was very run down. OK for a 1 night stay. Kids loved the pool. Very rundown needs a total refurbish, but ok for one night.
- Nilobol (10/5): -
- Gary (8/5): Overall it was a pleasant stay. - The beds were comfortable. Good size room. Staff very helpful. Not Buffet breakfast as advertised but American Breakfast was ok. Had a step into the bath to have a shower and being part disabled I could not step in.
- Ken (8/5): Very good -
- Preben (7/5): Ok - Location Very worn
- Apple (10/5): Good location good service - Everything room very clean bed Nothing , only next door smoking
- Troy (7/5): Good -
- Wassana (7/5): Good - Staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was good. Very old and dated hotel. It literally needs a renovation.
- Michael (8/5): Comfortable. I would stay again. - Location. Breakfast limited.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Jiropas (6/5): Pleasant -
- Hanne (7/5): Good -
- Daniel (10/5): - Have stayed here many times..Always a great place!
- Koua (8/5): - For the most part, the room is ok except the toilet. It needs more water pressure to flush.
- Jolin (1/5): Miserable! By far the worst hotel of a wonderful 2-week stay in Northern Thailand. - Lots of parking space. That is about it.
Grandiose hotel name. Has perhaps seen better times. The hotel requires a serious facelift!
Rooms are in a terrible state and dirty. Only one plug working in our room (Deluxe room).
Bed/mattress old, super soft. Terrible night sleep.
Breakfast very poor.
- Chandani (8/5): Very good -
- Smalley (7/5): Good -
- Kridsana (6/5): So far it's rather good and acceptable. - Location is good closed to attraction and easily find food and beverage. Room size is OK. Clean smell. The hotel is quite old. Bed sheet is rather old and air conditioner doesn't work.
- Chee (7/5): Good - Short walk from bus station. Aged but well maintained.
Breakfast provided. Spacious rooms. TV channels. Insufficient power points. No kettle provided for standard room. It is a 2 km distance to walking street with no activity around.
- John (7/5): Good -
- Rodney (4/5): We left after 2 nights, the alternative booked was no better, but had a better internet connection. - This is a hotel with beautiful Thai and Chinese furniture in the lounge area, a nice large swimming pool and a large parking area in front of the hotel. The room was spacious. The buffet breakfast was good, choice of two fruit items, with omelette cooked to order, plus toast, jam and choice of tea and coffee. Unfortunately the room décor was a little tired, the sink plug did not keep the water in and the internet connection was bad, even using the booster we were given. The staff have a sombre mood. The breakfast although good, was limited in choice.
The only food available was breakfast, there is no evening restaurant or bar, there are local cafes nearby. With its ambiance and location, this hotel could offer so much more.
- Stephen (7/5): Good -
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional - The place had a real historic charm with beautiful woodwork in the large lobby. The pool was large and clean. The room was nice, The staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was good and plentiful. It was a buffet with mostly Thai food but they had toast, coffee, eggs and fruit. They rented me a bike to explore the old town to see the Teak mansions and gave a useful map. There was a restaurant cross the street to eat and drink. It was less than five minutes walk to the bus station and a 10 minute bike ride to the old town center.
- Tim (6/5): Good enough for a night. - Friendly staff, good location, decent breakfast with good variety. The hotel is rather old and in need of renovation.
- Heico (8/5): Good stay overall - The hotel has ample parking without awkward maneuvering and one friendly, helpful and perfectly anglophone afternoon receptionist. The other receptionists are friendly and polite, but less anglophone.
When booking online, i made two special requests. I immediately got a reply in smooth English that they noted my request – and both requests were perfectly honored upon check-in, that’s great. Other hotels never reply and might not honor your request. The laundry was returned within 8 hours or so and halfway affordable.
My standard room (not deluxe) on the fifth floor was large, quiet, comfortable and with good daylight. I missed a water kettle (only in deluxe), but you get boiling water at reception. The shower is within a bathtub, which is dangerous, and the hot water is sometimes not very hot and always a wild river.
When you go out with the key, the room has no more electricity, so you can’t charge devices or do long up- and downloads. The hotel wifi was the slowest i ever had in Thailand, and sometimes no connection was possible; this is awkward if you use a laptop (i know the workarounds). It was December and i never tried aircon nor TV.
The hotel location is not ideal for a Phrae tourist. It is not in the „wooden heart“ of Phrae, near the famous temples and wooden mansions, even though it is also not way far out and the big road next door can also be convenient, depending on your needs. Grab motorcycle taxis can often be had in daylight hours, but rarely in the dark.
- Traveller-ch (7/5): Good - - very friendly staff on duty, one lady can speak english very well
- good breakfast buffet
- very clean
- good location
- comfortable bed with a duvet - bathtub, the showehead is not removable, so the water spills over which makes the toilet floor wet
- old building
- Sompong (7/5): Staff is good and helpful. Decoration should be improve. - staffs are very nice and helpful. Location is good. hotel is not much clean. Capet smell still be in hotel although hotel replace by new material.
- Lawrence (3/5): Poor -
- Suzanne (10/5): Enjoy this grand hotel - Wonderful pool, kind attentive staff, and very clean. We asked for a vegetarian breakfast with eggs and it was perfect. I am impressed and would stay in this grand hotel again.
- Peng (9/5): Superb -
- H (7/5): an okay but older hotel - an okay hotel, already some years older, but the price is accordingly. it’s close by the bus terminal, but 1km away from the old center. WiFi was very bad
- Andrew (10/5): Nice place ! - Nice and clean.
Great staff ! The rooms are clearly getting dated.
- Petpailin (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was excellent. You could choose from the menu. The pool was clean. It was super close to the bus station. The staff was flexible as well. The Wifi was a bit too slow.
- Parin (8/5): Very good -
- Rodney (7/5): Good - We were visiting family in the area. Reasonable hotel but
- June (8/5): Very good - The pool is the big bonus here. It's a good size and was quiet during my visit. Rooms are well equipped with very comfortable beds. If you are arriving by bus it's only a few minutes walk from the bus station.
- Watis (7/5): Good - Breakfast is a good
Located in the heart of the city Air-conditioned is broken
- Lee (10/5): - A great location in Phrae . Near bus terminal and food outlets. We stay here often when in Phrae
- Davis (5/5): Passable -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel itself is very lovely and clean. Staff are very helpful as much they can do. Its limitation is public transport and sources of information which can help a "lone" traveler as I. I had to use "local knowledge of Thailand in rural areas" to assist me getting a tricycle and a minivan to take me around.
The city is very delightful and people are so lovely. Beautiful houses and temples are worth the visit. One of my excellent trips.
- drifterprof (8/5): - Positives:
-- quiet, relaxed, feels safe
-- spacious room, good air conditioning
-- classic hotel infrastructure with beautiful quality teak furnishings and decor from a bygone era
-- swimming pool is nice size, beautiful, and looks clean
-- good free breakfast, standard 2 bottles drinking water free
-- hair dryer, shampoo, soap provided
-- good lighting at strategic points in room and bed table
Negative:
-- sad that this classic beautiful hotel is not maintained will enough to merit 4 or 5 stars; probably because not enough tourists in Phrae
-- no microwave, and no electric hot water kettle
-- antique Godzilla sized TV (Pansonic)
-- sketchy wireless - should have your own smartphone data connection if important things to get done
-- sad old bathroom fixtures
-- there was a plumbing leak in the bathroom; when taking shower, water leaks from under the tub and gets bathroom floor all wet
-- only one socket for charging devices (although Godzilla TV can be unplugged and that socket used)
-- rat's nest of wires inside the bed table (no socket) -- very unprofessional
So although I would recommend this as a relaxing place to stay, I don't think it merits more than 3 out of 5 stars.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Slept well! - Good hotel on edge of the old city - incredible amount of storage space fit for a king. Lots of wooden furniture in an older style and a great pool. Breakfast was OK.
- chuck (6/5): Nice hotel in city - Had a issue and was contacted about it quickly and was told they would be looking into correcting it so I’ll be back. It was good to have someone at the hotel take notice and trying to make the place good thanks!
