Guest Reviews
- Sally (9/5): Very comfortable pleasant stay. - Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Accommodation was very clean and comfortable..
Food was very good. Great menu choice. The bathroom was extremely small .
Very difficult to watch the tv as it was on the side wall to the bed.
- Muhammad (8/5): - Friendliness and flexibility of staff
- Hull (10/5): Fernhill Hotel May 2026 review - We have enjoyed a wonderful stay at Fernhill Hotel. Staff were so welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.
Despite us arriving before we were supposed to check in, we were welcomed inside to settle in and make ourselves at home.
The room was lovely, spotlessly clean and well stocked with a range of hot beverages, the home made biscuits were a delicious touch too.
Nothing is too much trouble, just ask and they will happily oblige. The pool was a great attraction, especially as it's heated which takes the chill off and is a comfortable swimming temperature.
Breakfast was delicious, plenty of options and totally customisable.
We didn't have evening meals but did ask for room service one evening and they made us up some food which was wonderful and much appreciated, as I gather it's not the norm.
Thank you again for our lovely stay. It was a great choice of hotel and made my birthday weekend a special one to remember.
The hotel is a couple of miles from Lyme Regis which we found to be the closest place for a small Tesco and some shops.
The area is quite hilly too so anyone with mobility issues might struggle. Lyme Regis, aside from the promenade, certainly wouldn't be suitable for mobility scooters due to its steep incline.
There are some lovely places to visit along the Jurassic Coast.
A bus is available from the bottom of the hotels drive which takes you many places. Taxis I understand can be a bit hit and miss. We were not let down by our prearranged lifts, but there is no Uber so I'd recommend making return taxi arrangements with one of the local firms so you don't get stranded.

- Rochelle (6/5): Quiet and pleasant - Friendly reception staff. Big room and the spa bath was great. Quiet and clean. Food was disappointing. There was a set dinner time, but even then we had to wait, which was not highly desirable after a 6 hr drive.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Great location for exploring the Jurassic Coast. - Great location and very welcoming.
Excellent food all freshly prepared.
Very comfortable large room.
All the staff were very helpful and courteous. The room lighting was a bit dim and the towel rail did not heat up.

- Joan (7/5): We would have liked a TV in the bar or lounge area as the room was not ideal to watch TV. - It’s in a lovely location away from the crowds.
Breakfast was very good and staff very helpful.
Did not have dinner to rate it
Pool was a nice to have, but did not use it It lacked atmosphere, the pub not well used and often we were the only ones using it, generally had to call a staff member to serve us
Superior double room is small and not much space
En suite bathroom is very small, a large person would battle with the space.
- Allan (8/5): -
- Miranda (10/5): A beautiful, peaceful retreat with wonderful staff. - Absolutely lovely small hotel outside Lyme Regis/Charmouth. Comfy rooms, beautifully decorated, excellent breakfasts and the staff could not have been nicer. We enjoyed the pool and the dinner we had here one night. The staff were always on hand to help and couldn’t have been more accommodating. It’s very peaceful and a lovely place to unwind. I recommend it highly and will be coming back.

- Tim (9/5): Lovely staff and great breakfast, cosy rooms - All staff were very friendly and helpful, evening meal was just what we needed, breakfast was excellent, room was a good size with comfy bed. Mainish road nearby but not intrusive. We had two over 90 year olds (parents) in the party who did find the stairs hard work. We were phoned by the staff beforehand to let us know which was kind. The showers had no grab handle which my father said would have helped as he is unsteady on his feet and they didn't find the shower mat which was stored under the sink.

- David (8/5): - Great breakfast Small bathroom
- ROY (10/5): -
- Kim (9/5): Very nice stay - Everything was good breakfast was very good didn’t have evening meal Didn’t find anything we didn’t like
- Hans (6/5): Change the format! Please! - During our two week visit to the Southwest of England we visited four properties. We are looking for beautiful locations, friendly service, luxurious rooms, good food and drinks. Fernhill was meant to be the 'grand finale' of two wonderful weeks.
The Fernhill has the grandeur and hardware to meet all of our expectations. The owner and his staff are very friendly, helpful and are working hard to meet your demands. The hotel is close to the route of a nasty bypass on the coast path. If you don't mind climbing at the end of your day you could have yourself be brought to Seaton and walk back to the hotel over a very special part of the coast path.
We looked for fossils on the Charmouth beach and went to the lovely town of Dorchester and visited the very informative and interesting Dorset-museum. The steak I had the last evening was very very good; spot on! Hotels and restaurants are struggling. Personnel left with Covid and never came back because of Brexit. The owners of Fernhill have a hotel, bar and restaurant and swimming pool to attend to. Hard work and still difficult to be profitable.
I think the owners had to be inventive during Covid. Forms for food, minimal contact with clients, all pre-choice and then served out without decorum. They found out this worked out perfectly during the crisis, so why not keep it up.
They found some thin arguments about privacy (not entering the room) and zero waste of food (pre-choice) and voila!
But you can't have me pay € 273,78 a night and then not clean the room for four nights and let me fill in forms on my breakfast desires (nothing on display to take, only what I ordered), and work with a system of me putting my dirty towels in a bag in the hallway and put the forms and old milk in a plastic tub next to it.
The consequence of pre-choice on an diner-menu is that only guest can attend. That makes for quite a small crowd in what is a quite nice diner-room. And your earlier selection is just carried in and put on the table by a hard working young man on sneakers. It gave it the atmosphere of a nursery home. That was depressing and sad to see!
I spoke about this with the owner and he told me about the struggle and that they are reviewing their concept every year.
Please please: Forget the bar for now, but re-introduce the servicing of the room and upgrade the kitchen to give a wider breakfast choice and a small but good diner menu to choose from. Live will return and so will I.

- Jackie (7/5): - This is a lovely Victorian building in a quiet, rather secluded location close to Lyme Regis and Charmouth seafronts. The owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Our room was cozy, clean and comfortable and the tea, coffee biscuits are replenished every day (and they provide fresh milk in a thermos - which is nice). The food (which you have to order well in advance) was tasty and freshly prepared. The outdoor pool is large enough for a proper swim (although it's freezing when you first get in) and I had it to myself on both mornings as the hotel was quite quiet when we stayed. The only thing I didn't like was that they (mostly) only cater for residents so they keep the front door locked and you have to ring them to let you in and you only get one room key - which was a bit inconvenient when my husband went for a run and used the pool and I had to come down and let him in when he came back. Overall, a very nice stay. Thank you.

- ward (9/5): very good - to many emails

- Adrian (10/5): A relaxing few days where we were able to recharge our bodies and minds. - The relaxed atmosphere, beautiful room, friendly and helpful proprietors, Rob and Jo, who made us very welcome. N/a
- Nataliya (10/5): - Our stay at the Fernhill Hotel was simply amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the friendly and professional staff. The check-in process was quick and smooth, and they provided us with helpful information about everything.
The room was spacious, exceptionally clean, and very comfortable.
Breakfast was rich and diverse. The hotel restaurant also deserves special mention for its delicious meals and excellent service.
Overall, our experience at Fernhill Hotel exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect getaway. We will definitely be returning for a longer vacation on our next trip!
- Gary (8/5): -
- Karen (9/5): - Owners + staff were friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were good.
Opted to have an evening meal on our day of arrival which was very good.
Other facilities available ie bar and lounge however perhaps due to lack of guests were always empty.
There is a swimming pool but this was not open. 4 bed pillows were provided but two of them were very hard.
- john (10/5): - Everything went well Quiet location Plenty of choice for breakfast Clean rooms Friendly helpful staff Ideal location to explore the Jurassic coast.
- Felstead (10/5): Lovely weekend trip away - Loved the staff, really warm and welcoming and very helpful and nothing was too much for them. The pool was lovely, says it was a heated pool and it isn't but it was a very sunny day so made it bearable. Breakfast was lovely and easy to choose your options, bathroom, bedroom etc was all lovely and clean. Bed was slightly hard but very spacious so didn't really affect anything. Access to taxis and buses, defo book travel ahead!
- Przemyslaw (5/5): -
- Bethany (10/5): -
- francesca (10/5): - everything
- Louise (8/5): Comfy stay - Location, quick booking ,friendly welcome An overlook on sugar, coffee ,tea bags ,they were mouldy, staff were very apologetic though
- Marie (7/5): - The lighting in the bedroom is woeful and the 3 lights need to be a much higher wattage. It was difficult to even type on a keyboard and reading was impossible.
Breakfast - whilst this was provided as part of the night stay there are some basic standards world wide that should be adhered to. When a person can not eat the full breakfast due to food allergies the ingredients that are removed should be replaced with a substitute amount. When I ordered Poached eggs on toast the world standard is two pieces of toast and two eggs. I received one piece of toast and 2 eggs. By being cheap on the single piece of toast at breakfast we leave an otherwise good stay feeling this was poor. You need to concentrate on repeat business and having people rebook in later in life when revisiting the region. Cutting corners at breakfast is not good business practice and was disappointing and the owner should be having a word with the breakfast chef on what is expected. That was an incomplete breakfast and was unnecessary as another piece of toast is inexpensive and may have cost your company a revisit. see above
- Stephen (9/5): Very enjoyable - Breakfast and dinner were very good. Bed comfy and good size room. Staff very pleasant and helpful Opaque glass in bathroom would have been good as I had to remember to pull the blind down when doing my ablutions!
- Deborah (8/5): We had the perfect weather, it was amazing to have the lovely pool. The staff friendly and location - The breakfast was average I think just the breakfast
- Piper (10/5): Very happy with our stay we were treated very well - Everything was excellent
Breakfast, evening meal, chilled atmosphere
Attentive owners and waitress
Room was light and airy
Good views
Peaceful
Easy parking
Access to hotel at anytime
Comfy bed Bathroom was quite small
Everything else was 100% good
- Jonathan (8/5): The right place at the right time. - I very much felt at home Nothing for me
- Colin (9/5): -
- Joyce (10/5): Extremely restful - Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely food. Liked the no waste policy. Our bathroom was very small and we would book a bigger room in the future.
- Ing. Manfred (8/5): Einfach schön - Sehr schönes altes ehrwürdiges Hotel im englischen Stil im Inneren. Von außen war es gar nicht so erkennbar
Sogar ein sehr großes Außen-Pool Gab keine Mängel
- Brent (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed the privacy and quiet. Bus service just outside hotel was a big bonus. - Meals were all very good. The staff were pleasant and courteous. The room was comfortable with plenty of space. Nothing
- Simpson (7/5): -
- Mike (10/5): Far from the madding crowd - Loved the commitment to sustainability N/A
- Paul (8/5): -
- Dave (10/5): - Robert was a great host. Nice breakfast. Nothing to not like.
- Peter (2/5): - Would not stay again, as I am totally against ordering the breakfast and dinner beforehand. It is not for eco reasons as given. I feel like I am in an institution and this is all for short sited economics for the hotel. I would spend more per head if not under such a silly structured dining. Try real fresh food not frozen, open up the restaurant with a real Chef. Your occupancy and covers will more than double.
Get the most out of your business, its a lazy way to conduct a hotel.
