Guest Reviews
- Guest (3/5): would not stay here again but i booked at short notice and this was all that was available. - room was ok but not what i booked. no shower had to share bathroom. upon arrival i was told i could not have the room i had booked as someone had thrown up the night before and they could only offer me a room with shared bathroom. no offer to get the room cleaned up. as i driven for 7hrs i didnt have much choice but i had ask for a discount none offered. the rooms are not quiet. woken up 5oc in morning, next room watching tv.
also banging of doors 1.30am 1 night.
- h (8/5): A nice place to stay. Cheap and chearful - This is budget hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The assistant manager especially. I encounted problem with my travel and got to the hotel extremely late. She stayed untill i got in to the hotel.. A staff mber comunicated to her my problems. The staff couldnt do enough to make my stay comfortable
It has just been took over so lots to rectify.
Its cheap and chearful
. Shared bathroom. Being changed rooms. As got double booked Smaller room had a lot wrong with it a plug socket needs looking at. A cracked sink.
Dodgy lock on the door.
- Guest (8/5): - I needed a cheap hotel for overnight stay the portmann was perfect The bed was a bit creaky like it was not tightened properly and as a solo traveller it's never nice when people talk about you when I'm within hearing distance but overall it is a place I would stay in again
- Sylvia (4/5): - The bar was reasonable and the food was of a good standard fairly clean but needs to be looked at to improve it .bedding was clean The carpets throughout were very dirty and need of replacing ,in the bedroom there was no place to hang clothes and again carpets very dirty the separate bathroom didn't have a working light when asked for it to be looked at nothing was done also showering was impossible as it would run hot one minute then freezing cold the next not suitable for a disabled person. as all rooms are up on first floor with quite a lot of stairs to climb it made it hard being disabled to cope with. It looks like it's more a one night desperate stop over and that it is more depending on the bar and food keeping it going. I will not be looking to return to this property again
- Guest (8/5): Pleasant, clean and comfortable. -
- Robert (8/5): Value for money - Staff and onsite food
- John (1/5): Disgusting - Nothing Nothing
- Thomas (8/5): I would use again. - Very handy to the Town Centre.
- Peter (5/5): -
- Charles (10/5): -
- Guest (4/5): I won't be back - The room was grubby with peeling wallpaper and dirt on skirting and corners of room.
The electric shower had 2 temperatures..... Freezing and scalding, nothing in between.
Price was relatively cheap and location handy, but for a small amount more I could have stayed in a Premier Inn and had cleanliness and a decent shower.
- Richard (8/5): - All of the hotel
- William (10/5): -
- Fiona (3/5): Was only for one night but no sleep - Staff and food Bed was wobbly blood stain on quilt cover really needs updating
- PAUL (8/5): -
- Sean (7/5): - Nice location and very friendly staff. Very fair price for one night. Could use a bit of a redecorating, which didn't bother me that much. Shower didn't work and the wifi didn't extend to my room.
- McIlwraith (1/5): - Central location It was filthy. Bed sheets were not clean. They smelled of food and BO. Carpets were not hoovered. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was vile and the beds were very uncomfortable
- Alison (4/5): -
- Karen (5/5): - Staff are friendly. Room battered but as clean as they can get it. Hallway carpet is gross.
- Christine (1/5): -
- David (7/5): Tolerable - Bar was decent ,staff friendly Tv packed in,internet was so bad I gave up.
- Gary (3/5): -
- Lynne (6/5): It was comfortable & friendly staff were lovely - It was a warm& friendly place very basic it was fine for our one night stay
The room did have bottles of water& tea& coffee which was good The food was lovely we had in the bar Could decor could do with a wee bit of freshening up
The noise from the bar at night
- Owen (3/5): -
- Paul M. (3/5): Beware the damage deposit! - The location was convenient for me. The Portmann is a noisy and busy local bar.
The bedroom and bathroom were in need of total refurbishment. Torn wallpaper, dirty carpets, old and uncomfortable beds, holes in walls and floors where pipes and cables enter. No in-house staff. The cleaner let me out. No breakfast. I will not return.
- Jimmy (7/5): - Staff helpful and friendly. Nice bar and menu was basic pub grub, and well presented.
- Jonathan (7/5): -
- Guest (8/5): Perfect place to rest my head between two competitions. Would stay again, no hesitation. - Staff were super helpful, kind and good at their jobs. Room was fine, clean, bed not luxurious but comfy. Could probably do with a lick of paint/new wall paper here and there, but that's being picky.
- cizmariu (4/5): - Nice pub and near to Kilmarnock City centre. The room was very small, a the hotel need a deep clean, I've got the room keys but after I come back from my car with my laguage they ask me to change the room, I'm not sure why.
The bed was nearly to brock apart at any movment.
- Jan (8/5): V friendly place, (thats open late xx) - Fab location fae visiting Kilmarnock. 10-15 mins fae The station. Fab fae a Killie game, but obs Home fan pub on match day. As a neutral I loved it! xx
- Laura (8/5): Perfect place for a short trip food is amazing too and top service - This place was so lovely staff and regulars made it very welcoming I will definitely be back here and looking forward to it Just a little unclean in the light shade full of dust and in the bathroom shelves squint
- Richard (1/5): It’s cheap it’s was only a place to sleep but it’s grim, lovely staff - It was more for convenience but I know the place is a dump so didn’t expect anything else The shower doesn’t work it was freezing stayed before and reported it
Showered at a friends house when I was visiting
- Peter (8/5): -
- Marija (4/5): - De locatie van het hotel was oké. ‘s Avonds en ‘s nachts draaien ze harde muziek waardoor je niet kunt slapen. Twee keer aangegeven, maar dat hielp niet.

- John (7/5): Short 2 night stay at a value for money hotel in Kilmarnock. - To answer the question above, breakfast was not included. The location was very handy for me, as I was taking a trip to Saltcoats and there was a convenient bus stop right outside the hotel. Checking in was a seamless process. Tea/ coffee provided in the room, and replenished on day 2. The room was spacious enough too. To be honest the place could with a bit of TLC. The wallpaper was coming off in a couple of places. The shower was a bit odd. It took a while to warm up, then when you were in there, it kept going cold then scalding hot, so it took a bit of adjustment to get it right. These were minor inconveniences though. I have stayed at the Portmann before, so I suppose it says something that I was prepared to return.
- Lorna (7/5): - Excellent location- lovely staff - good value for money - clean Looking a bit tired
- Aaron (10/5): -
- Kieran (7/5): -
- David (1/5): Overnight stay - Bed falling apart. Uncomfortable mattress. TV remote not working. Shower stopped hot water after about 2 minutes. Very small room. Difficulty filling kettle. Parking very restricted. Electric fire broken.
- Justin (7/5): Okay but pricey when you factor in the key deposit - Room was adequate and clean. I was not refunded my key deposit. I had to leave at around 8am and there was no one to give my key to. I put it in the designated box by the front door but two weeks later, I still haven't been refunded the key deposit.
On a separate note, the portable heater provided was a broken stand which made it prone to falling over which was a clear safety hazard.
- Nanci (2/5): - Apparently had water damage from floor above & incomplete amateur repairs, black mould on bathroom ceiling, couldn't close windows facing street so noisy all night, floors/rug filthy so my feet were black getting into shower, only had an old small water-damaged 3 drawer dresser with no room on top for personal al items, no bedside table
- Mikaela (10/5): -
- Linda (1/5): Won’t be back - The complimentary toiletries and coffee making facilities with bottled water etc was really nice. Extremely dated. 3 flights of stairs when disabled wasn’t good. Car “parking” is ridiculous as not even availability to park but max 3 cars can be abandoned out front.
- Karen (1/5): Awful - The room was clean Room was tiny wallpaper missing of the wall bed was not comfortable I couldn’t reach window to close it and was kept awake all night by a loud fan.i left after o e night
- Johnston (5/5): Good staff nice food room OK stopped two nights - Both good. Staff very good helpful. Food was good and nice size portions Mattress on double bed in family room past best
- Judith (4/5): Wouldn’t stay again - Shower was cold. Noisy room. Very basic, could do with some new decor and furniture
- Ross (10/5): - Everything
- Mario (7/5): -
- Jean (10/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful Nothing good value for money
- David (2/5): Would let my dog stay in the room - Staff and bar good. Room needs total refurb...freezing....no hot water in shower....wind coming in through windows...carpet disgusting....
- Gordon (1/5): Dirty room could not sleep was haunted - Nothing it was haunted It was haunted had no sleep not clean dirty
- martin (4/5): - Cold room.

- Alex (9/5): -
- David Humphreys (8/5): -
- Gianni (10/5): I loved it. - It is a perfect hotel in Kilmarnock! Just perfect. Nothing. As I said it’s a perfect value for money hotel.
- Gavin (10/5): -
- Margaret (1/5): - Turned up before 11 locked up tried to call no answer, had to sleep at relatives place on floor as was going to funeral, went to see them next morning for the management to be so rude we couldn't possibly stay there so had to pay for another hotel, what a big disappointed as had to go to me sisters funeral so wasn't in frame of mind to be arguing with anyone so would never recommend it to anyone Manager so bloody rude when it wasn't our fault
- George (8/5): -
- Mac (5/5): not so great , 2 separate beds for a couple - N/a the bathroom is outside the room
- Janette (6/5): -
- Keeping (4/5): -

- Strider14 (7/5): - Friendly staff, Good evening menu but no breakfast, Bedrooms compact but clean and comfortable Wi-fi signal didn't reach the bedroom
- campbell (5/5): -
- Irvine (1/5): terrible place - place was fealthy walls where stinking, carpet was stinking, beds stinking, was in it a half hour and had to leave and get money back
- William (9/5): -
- Joanne (8/5): We stayed for my partner as he was playing golf near by we did have a laugh at the bar and the girls - The bar was great as it opened late !! Breakfast was lovely 🥰 The rooms say where very dated and poor looking

- Charles l (9/5): Value for money - Relaxed, very friendly, helpful, and easy going. Cheap & cheerful!!! Few niggles, but nothing to complain about considering the price.
- Richard (1/5): Ok for one night Get new mattress and sort the water out - Location Everything, rooms clean and clean bedding but very tired worse mattress I’ve ever slept on springs sticking out and digging into my back, cold water tap almost didn’t work hot water roasting burn your hands and shower either freezing or roasting think it was faulty, both members of staff lovely,
- Linda (7/5): - it was comfy and friendly heating was hard to get on behind the tvs are very dusty
- L. Bruce (8/5): -
- Moir (8/5): -
- Andrew (7/5): - Above pub staff friendly Bit outdated needs updating bed had springs in and bit mould in shower
- John (6/5): -
- Richard (7/5): - All of it Bed could have been better
- Francey (5/5): -
- Leslie (1/5): -
- Chris (8/5): Recommended - Location good n felt welcome by the host (James) No plbm with the electric shower but it does play up with hot n cold shower !
- Jake (7/5): - Good location for station and football stadium. Room was a good size for two people. Loud music from the bar going on until 11. I was aware of there being no breakfast, but the sign outside confusingly suggested that there was.
- Don (8/5): Value for money accommodation within walking distance of the town centre. - Value for money centrally located Hotel, very popular with football supporters so noise levels might be higher on matchdays. Nevertheless, I will stay here again the in future. Nothing to say
- Linda (8/5): - Staff are friendly and helpful the location is lovely The bed in room 6 is broken and there is no lighting on the way out at night sadly the room was not checked properly as there was an open can of coke left in the besldside drawer and the TV was covered in dust but overall everything else was good
- Keith (5/5): -
- Robert (10/5): Comfortable, enjoyable and simple. - Staff were friendly, very welcoming. The building itself inside was warm, welcoming, felt cosy. Everything was easy to find and access. Short distance to town making it perfect for shops and for work. WiFi didn’t seem to stay connected for more than a few minutes at a time
- Anthony (5/5): Was ok for my purpose - Location was ideal, car parking was good . Larger room with comfortable beds and working WiFi, larger beds and TV and heater
- Barry (5/5): - Staff were great as is location. . For 40 quid not much to complain about..The single room! Had better in Barlinnie 😁 it's a work in progress the other rooms looked OK.
- Jonathan (8/5): Great value... great location... - Very helpful and friendly staff..
Great location and nice and quiet despite there being a bar downstairs. Mattress could have been firmer.
- Verne (7/5): - Warm hospitality from all staff.
Great to have a place to eat on the premises after a long flight. Service was great and efficient. One mattress was uncomfortable as one could feel the springs of the mattress when lying down. Did advise the manageress, who said she would check the mattress.
Saturday disco a surprise and music and noise outside did filter through to the room till after midnight. Used our airplane ear plugs.
- Akinyemi (10/5): Peace and calm - Friendly staff, good for families
