- Ari (10/5): Great experience, very comfortable and great staff. - The staff and the place were great. We were very well taken care of. The cute Saunas were a highlight, and there is even a gym. The restaurant has nice bistro like food. While everything was very clean, the sofa in the room smelled a bit of sweat from prior customer. While you cannot re-fresh a sofa the way you change a bed, the hotel should think of more regular steam cleaning of the sofas in the rooms. Skiing can be a sweaty activity.

We enjoyed the large bar after skiing with very friendly bartenders. Our room was on the smaller side with a small closet. The room lighting needs improvement (too dark).

- Gary (7/5): My expectations were higher given the price. - Location was great. Proximity to the lift. Concierge service with skis. Furniture in the room was very uncomfortable and impractical. One upright chair and a huge lounge sofa with no back support sounds reasonable as I write this but was totally impractical so that there was no place to settle and read a book accept lying in bed. Forced you to leave the room like staying at a McDonald’s. Bed was comfortable.
- NYCgrrrl706 (8/5): Wonderful ski valet, comfy room, terrible restaurant! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. - We stayed at the Josie earlier this month for a ski week at Red Mountain, BC. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are comfortable. I had a great view of the mountain and the ski in/ski out experience was great. One of the very best things about the stay was the ski valet service. We dropped off our skis when we checked in and they took care of them after that, moving them outside for our use each morning. They also held our ski boots overnight and our regular boots/shoes while we were skiing. They were friendly and very professional. Kudos for the ski valet!! I'm giving fewer stars than 5 due to some other issues. Not super important but annoying was that the room was too dark. There were lamps around the edges but no overhead light and when it was dark out it was hard to find things in the suitcases and drawers. One other issue was the sauna. It started out nice and hot at 95 degrees but after about 1/2 hour it was down to 65. Major bummer. And they don't have a hot tub, which would be very nice for soaking in during a weeklong ski vacation. One last review is for the on-site restaurant, the Velvet. I have to say it was the worst restaurant I've been to. I was not feeling well for a couple days and ordered the chicken soup via room service. The soup was awful. It tasted like a can of overcooked chunky soup with brown gravy. Yuck! I couldn't eat it even though I hadn't eaten all day. The next night I had a caesar salad in the restaurant and that was also awful. It was like watered down dressing with no flavor, hardly any parmesan and overcooked, hard croutons. They really need to get a better chef since there are not many food options available nearby for apres ski/dinner without taking a shuttle into town. The daily breakfast included with the room, also at the Velvet, was just ok. I liked the egg frittata and the pumpkin bread but they only had each of them one time during the week. The daily bacon was not crisp, the sausage was terrible, the scrambled eggs were dry, and they had dry, tasteless pastries every day. They did have fresh fruit, which was nice, but I wish there was more variety, and more berries, and not as much tasteless canteloupe and melon. I want to add that I am not a foodie. I am NOT picky, so the restaurant had to be really bad for me to have this reaction. I heard they've gone through many chefs, so something needs to be done on that front.

Excellent restaurant and nice exercise facility were added bonuses. Mattress could have been a little firmer, but that is a personal preference and pretty nitpicky.

- SCL60 (10/5): Unpretentious Comfort Steps from the Lift - My husband and I stayed here 4 nights during an extended ski road trip. We loved it. The location is perfect—chairlift right outside the door. The service is casual, but every need is met with a smile. The restaurant and bar have wall to wall windows out to the mountain, and food and cocktails are excellent. There is no hot tub, but there is an adequate workout room (overlooking the chairlift, very motivating!) and two outdoor saunas. Highly recommend!

- worldtrvlrCA (4/5): Strong But Challenging Management - Advice Below - The Josie Hotel offers a beautiful setting in Rossland with excellent amenities and a cozy atmosphere. The rooms were clean and well-appointed, and the location is perfect for enjoying the surrounding area. I have organized multiple large group trips to this property. Unfortunately, our groups experience was overshadowed by an interaction with a manager, Karri Ann Taks, who was unnecessarily difficult and unhelpful. When I raised a concern, I expected a professional and solution-oriented approach, but instead encountered dismissiveness, a lack of willingness to resolve the issue, hiding behind technicalese, and everything but head rolling. This was surprising given the hotel’s reputation for hospitality. If you also have a negative enounter with Karri Ann Taks, I recommend just going directly to the manager Gerome Boye. It is unfortunate that the very negative attitude and pettiness of Karri Ann Taks soured the overall experience with an otherwise stellar team. I have organized multiple large group trips to this location, but would reconsider now in the future given that one of our guests had such a negative experience. I would also going forward ask that guests with any issues go directly to Mr. Boye and buypass Karri Ann Taks if she were ever to enter the picture again given the unnecessary unprofessional demeanor.

Front desk should be able to offer free parking when situations warrant, and have coffee available later than 7am. Have stayed there several times in the past, am a Marriott Bonvoy member. Suggestion1: When occupancy is low, generate goodwill with guests when snow is predicted and the garage is nearly empty. Suggestion 2: Have coffee available later than 7am. I understand you need to be profitable, but cutting these types of amenities at a luxury hotel is bad form. How much does it cost to offer complimentary parking in bad weather conditions and to have coffee available until mid morning?
- fdoamerica (6/5): If you stayed in Autograph Hotel... you will be disappointed with this one. - We stayed at this Autograph Collection hotel for three nights, and unfortunately, it fell far short of the standards we’ve come to expect from other Autograph properties in North America and Europe. This is neither a boutique hotel nor a true luxury property. It lacks the individuality and character that typically distinguish Autograph Collection hotels, instead feeling like a generic large ski-resort operation. The hotel is owned by an American company based in Texas and was only recently added to the Autograph/Marriott portfolio. Prior to that, it functioned simply as a ski-resort hotel — and, in truth, that’s still exactly how it feels. The on-site restaurant, Velvet, was disappointing for both breakfast and dinner, and we would not recommend dining there. On a positive note, the rooms were clean and the staff provided adequate service, though nothing beyond functional.

- Sarah (6/5): Good but not great - The beds, hotel, location and amenities are all lovely and we really enjoy rossland. The cleaning staff and restaurant staff were all very nice. We stayed at the Josie last year and really enjoyed it, which is why we decided to come back for a little mini moon after our wedding. We noted this in our booking and the hotel acknowledged it, but nothing was done to recognize the occasion during our stay. Given it was the shoulder season and there were very few guests, that felt a little disappointing. We still had a nice time and were excited to be there, but since it was a special trip for us and on the more expensive side to celebrate the occasion, we had hoped for a bit more effort to make it feel special. Also, just a heads up for anyone booking through booking.com — there is a pet fee of 25 dollars a night that isn’t listed there and they will just charge it to your room without telling you.

Could have used some tea bags along with coffee pods and the body lotion was empty, but we lived, lol. Just lovely and we enjoyed chatting with our breakfast server too.

Das Restaurant Velvet hat die Air-condition auf zu hoher Stufe eingestellt, es ist gar kalt und das Gebläse direkt oberhalb wo den Tischen. Aufpassen dass man davon keine Erkältung einfängt. Sonst das Essen war hervorragend.
- Dave (8/5): - What I didn't like was a destination fee of 20 dollars, I guess is like Las Vegas resort fee. Also they should have waved covered parking because of all the construction in the area with very limited parking near by.
- Roger (10/5): - The staff were really nice and the room is exactly as it was described. The bathroom was bigger than most Parisian hotel rooms. It has central air, not a noisy AC unit attached to the side of the room. It's definitely a big step up from most other hotels in the area. You'll pay twice as much to stay in Nelson for a much lower quality room (Summer Rates).

- Steven (6/5): Will not accept debit card. - At check in the hotel refused to accept a debit or anything other than a credit card for incidentals. Would of lost prepaid stay if I did not borrow a friend’s credit card. I will not stay here again. Never had this problem at any other hotel.

- GeocacheBC (10/5): Wonderful! - Beautiful hotel. The service was wonderful. We were immediately upgraded to a suite upon arrival and told everything we needed to know about our stay. The tub was wonderful and much needed. The his and her sinks were a great addition. The nespresso maker was great. We hoped we would see some bears on the hill but no such luck. This is a great spot if you’re looking for somewhere classy to stay off of the beaten path. 5 minutes to town and we were thankful we chose to stay at the Josie instead of in town. My only tiny complaint would be they need to figure out a system for letting cars into the underground parking without having to call the front desk. I found that a bit annoying and felt bad for the person working the front desk each time I had to call haha. Perfect for a couples trip! We will be back! Thank you!

- David (9/5): Worth the drive to a great location and we would go back! - Location, location, location! Close to tons of hiking trails for us. The hotel is at the ski resort for winter and primarily is a trail bike resort in the summertime. The town of Rossland, BC is a quaint small town with some great restaurants too. Free coffee was only available from 5 to 7 AM. Some of us don't get up that early when we are on vacation.
- Joseph (6/5): - Overall a decent property, however there were a few issues. It's a bit off the grid in that you have to drive down a dirt road for a while to get there. The entire area is under construction and as we were almost there I had to back up for almost 100 meters to allow another vehicle to get out before I could proceed. The so called free self parking is a fair walk into a dirt area. I was given another option in the underground garage which I chose because as the check-in guy offered one or the other he quickly added that the hotel is not responsible... I found this method somewhat tactless to be honest. Last, we had free breakfast with our room and even with previously reading negative reviews I didn't think anyone could screw up breakfast. I was wrong. Over easy eggs were over hard and burnt. Sourdough toast were very burnt. A few sausage links also very overcooked. Last, I chose a diet coke for my drink choice and it was flat. My wife had a waffle with chicken which was okay, except... Yes, the waffle was burnt. Dear Manager, please note that there is something wrong with your restaurant! We will not be returning to this property.

Also paying an extra $15 to park underground when there is only 8 parking spots in front of the hotel is not acceptable.

Amenities were great and bed comfortable. Ate at the restaurant twice and had great meals both times. Staff was excellent too. I am so happy to have found this place and will stsy here whenever I’m in the area.

- B. Keith (10/5): Great stay! - Everything about The Josie Hotel was wonderful! Excellent service, friendly, professional, efficient and helpful staff in all regards. Beautifully appointed hotel with all of the amenities that you could ask for. Spotlessly clean and well maintained, modern facility. We actually stayed 4 nights in total as our plans changed from the original 3 night booking to 4 nights. We were attending College Prep Baseball Provincials which were held in Trail about 20 minutes away so we commuted every day. The only meals we had at The Velvet Restaurant inside the Josie were our breakfasts. When we booked our rooms, we pre-paid our breakfasts for the 4 days which ended up being a very good deal price-wise as the menu items were quite expensive we thought. The food we had was good but not excellent especially if we had paid the menu price and not the much cheaper pre-paid price. All in all, we would absolutely recommend The Josie Hotel and we would definitely stay there again!

- Fredi (5/5): When paying 300.00 for a 5 star facility one expects 5 star service. - The property was immaculate and the room was very comfortable. Restaurant service was dismal and overpriced. Front desk double charges resort fee, and made no attempt to correct.

- V3349WTjohne (10/5): Wow! A beautiful mountain hotel! - Incredibly surprised to find such a beautiful boutique hotel at the base of RED MOUNTAIN, Rossland, British Columbia. Set at the base of Red & Granite Mountains, I am excited to return in the depth of winter! Lunch on the patio in the summer sunshine was delicious. Definitely delightful luxury in every way!

Can see would be a great place to visit/ski in Winter for all you Team Winter people. Haha. Everything top notch! Lots of improvement changes happening this hill and the staff at the Josie are very accepting and accommodating to find solutions to complicating factors of construction in the area.

- Lukasz (10/5): A hidden gem! - The hotel is beautiful wow! The rooms are large and clean. The hotel is surrounded by gorgeous scenery. Lots of places around to eat. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Honestly, there isn't much I didn't like. I have more of a suggestion. The hotel restaurant has delicious food but would have like to see more options. It's a small lunch/dinner menu.
