• Nakash (10/5): Exceptional - The location is great and on the main street. The view is very nice and scenic. The rooms are in perfect condition, the bathroom and toilet work perfectly and the bed is really comfortable. Breakfast is included which is just delicious. The manager really cared about my wellbeing and was super nice and helpful. One of the better places I stayed at, best value for money ever! I liked everything, I have no compaints.

They were very healthy for the body.I like the view of the place.I can see ella rock from my room.Also this place has a calm and cool sorround.The bed is comfortable to me. Finally I like this nice place. The steps that i had to come to this place was in very poor condition. It was difficult to climb on it and very tired.

No toiletries, however the host provided body wash when mentioned. Found the bathroom floor very slippery and had to be extremely careful. No chair to sit in the bedroom. No where to hang the clothes.
• Chiara (10/5): Lovley stay - I had a lovely stay! Nemeli is a wonderful host—super kind and very helpful throughout my visit. I especially enjoyed the delicious breakfast with a beautiful view; I could see birds and squirrels in the trees nearby, which made the mornings feel extra peaceful. A truly refreshing and relaxing experience. Highly recommended!

• Micael_vic (9/5): Superb - The host was amazing! She served us breakfast every morning and even gave us a cooking class which was the best rice and curry we had in Sri Lanka! Great location, close to everything but far enough to be quiet at night. Expect to see a lot of monkeys! The room was a little humid.
• Bingchen (9/5): Superb - This is a cozy little cottage in the mountains, and the road to get there feels like walking through a pristine jungle—the environment is amazing! From the small dining table at the entrance, you get a view of the lush tropical forest, with tons of monkeys and birds living there. The host was super welcoming—even though it was late and raining, they prepared a delicious dinner with local spices for us and patiently explained some local transport tips. It was a bit noisy at night, but it seems like Ella in general is pretty lively—people love their parties here. It rained heavily the day we arrived, so the room felt a bit damp, but it wasn’t a big deal. The host mentioned that because of climate change, the rainy seasons have become less predictable.
• Bartosz (9/5): Superb - Very well located – right in the center, yet slightly tucked away, offering a peaceful retreat after a full day. The owner is extremely helpful. Every day brings a different, absolutely delicious breakfast. The Wi-Fi is slow, but you can connect to the network from the hotel above :))) It was a bit dirty – there were some hairs and a nail. You can also hear a bit of music coming from the center.
• Laura (9/5): Central location, lovely hostess! - Nimali was a great hostess! She gave us tips and taught us how to cook Sri Lankan food. The room was clean, quite small, but ok for a couple of nights. The path/stairs were a bit tricky in the rain, the bathroom was a bit damp.

• Lynn (9/5): Excellent stay - 1.Location is great. in the center but away from busyness. Though there are 75 steps to walk up. not so good if you have a roller bag luggage. We were ok as we have back packs 2. Room is comfortable even only fan was enough for us. as it was cool at night and in the morning 3. wifi and hot shower work well. 4. Host is very friendly and made good srilankan breakfast. we didn’t have time to do cooking class with her. I forgot some clothes when i checked out, she was able to contact me so I could go back to pick them up 5. you can walk to nine arch bridge or Ella rock from the cottage without any problems 1. we suggested the host to leave squeezy in the bathroom so after shower, we could dry the floor as there is no window. Bathroom smell very musty as it’s wet.

The only disadvantage you can't get to the the hotel itself by car . Like 70 stairs. The staff helps with the luggage to get here
• Nanda (7/5): Nice looking apartment but with some problems - The apartment itself is very nice and spacious with the high roof. It has a balcony on the front and a terrace in the back. Let’s not forget to mention that it is over 50 steps up, which can be really a challenge with the backpack. I think it has only one staff member which made it hard to communicate because she was hard to reach and was absent due to her unfortunate health condition. The electricity for the water cooker was hidden behind the table and then broke down when I switched it on and there was not a spare. The shower was so extremely hot that I got almost burnt. Even though she explained, it did not work the next day as well, still far too hot. Breakfast is very simple compared with other places in Sri Lanka. As per above
• Holly (10/5): Amazing - The loveliest place! The owner was so so nice, made us feel welcome and brought breakfast to us every morning which was delicious. She even did a cooking class with us. The room is spacious and the shower has hot water, very comfy bed. Very close to the Main Street but up quite a lot of steps so it feels like you’re further out. Would 100% recommend Sometimes could be noisy at night as next to a hostel (only happened on a Saturday night)other than that we loved everything
• Rosemary (8/5): Great location, close to restaurants and station. - Nice view of Ella rock through the trees from the patio. Large clean airy room with high ceiling. Kind host who offered us tea on arrival, amazing breakfast; roti, sambal, sweet pancakes, fruit and tea or coffee! Yes, there are steps up to the cottage, 85 in fact, but if you can't cope with steps, then maybe Ella isn't the right destination for you. it's VERY hilly here. We loved being up in the trees, so many birds to watch. Be patient with the shower, the hot water comes through eventually. Nothing.
• Sladjana (9/5): Srilankan cottage - We were accomodate in the room on 1st floor with one terrace and one balcony with a great view of surroundings. The bed was very comfortable with a net for mosquitoes, but there were no bugs at all. We were there in October. It is close to the center but you cannot hear noise from clubs and night life. The breakfast was traditional Srilankan, tasty and on second day we got it packed for take away since we were catching the bus at 7 am. And just below the appartment, when you exit to the street, you can wait a bus 31, which can take you all the way to Galle city. The ticket to Mirrisa cost 706 rupees which is about 2 euros, but we exited at Tangalle. The approaching path and steps from main road are a bit steep and for some people it is not comfortable.

• Małgorzata (8/5): Good value for money, just avoid the upper room as it’s opened to the outside. - The location is a bit distant from the noisy heart of Ella, so it’s quieter. It’s generally clean and the breakfasts are good as for Sri Lanka. The bathroom has OK water pressure and warm water which is very appreciated in this area (and not very common). Avoid the upper room as it has opened gaps between walls and the roof - there are tons of mosquitos and other insects getting in, we were covered in bites and blisters, the mosquito net needs a repair. We swapped the room for a downstairs one - it was a bit damp and with ants in the bathroom, but otherwise clean and comfortable, with few insects.

• Anastasia (1/5): Not recommended - Nothing Unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to stay in this accommodation because in the day of check-in I received a message that there are no available rooms for today. They didn’t cancel the reservation from their side, texted me that they will send me to another guest house, gave me a contact number and stopped to respond. As I came to Ella late at night I even didn’t have time to find new accommodation. The accommodation they offered me appeared cheaper and totally not the same as I booked in advance. The host there was unfriendly and looked like I’m annoying her since I knocked at the door. The room was very simple, old and not really comfortable, I didn’t like my stay at all. In the end of the story I received a message from Booking.com with a text like: “You didn’t come”. Me?! I’m sorry, but why you write me that there are no available rooms and then lie to Booking.com to save you commission? So of course I don’t recommend this place to avoid same situations.

• Andrea (9/5): Perfect stay in Ella - The rooms are simple but adequate. The shower had warm water! The house had 3 rooms, we booked 2 for our family on the lower floor and felt like we had the whole house to ourselves. Nimali was the perfect host, always smiling and very nice. We were served a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast and one evening she prepared various super tasty and typical Sri Lankan curries for us. Absolutely recommended Nothing negative, but you have to consider the many stairs to the house.

Although located just off the main road, to get to the property, one would have to climb about 200 steep steps. This can be difficult for people with knee problems or aged people in general.

The room was up on a hill which was visited by wildlife and has a lovely view. Great little spot away from the noise. Very comfortable bed! The property is up a lot of stairs which was quite difficult with all our luggage after 7 months of travelling! Wheeled suitcases won’t deal well here. The room was very hot unfortunately even with the ceiling fan!

Very friendly host and staff. Excellent big breakfast included in the room rate. Big room with a very comfortable big bed. Nice balcony, everything very clean. Be prepared for a climb from the bus stop uphill, stones can be slippery and not much light if you come home after sunset.

• Amber (9/5): Great Oasis - We loved it here. It is tucked up on the hill but still very close to all the restaurants. the bus stop is right outside the entry making it very convenient. The room we were upgraded too was very nice and large with an amazing porch to enjoy along with a wall of windows. We loved our breakfasts that get brought to you at whatever time you tell them. We were full for most of the day. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed we've had here in Sri lanka. The wifi was a little spotty but thats pretty normal for Sri Lanka.

Good breakfast which you can have outside in the terrace surrounded by nature and lovely host, who helped us sort out one night with a special arrangement - thank you for that! You might hear sounds from the main roads when lorries go by, but for how central the location is, it’s to be expected.

The appartment was very specious and the hostess was kind. There was a real lot of noise from the disco/restaurants in the town during night and lots of noise from the road during daytime. It was not very clean, lots of dust under the bed.

• Ella (8/5): Very good - The staff were absolutely lovely, the simple Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent. The location is ideal for people who haven't rented transport because you are right in the centre but set back from the noise of the street by a beautiful set of stairs through the trees.

The property located in front of the bus stop to Galle. The internet connection was fair. The property use solar for the water heater. So if it raining you will know what to expect. The water pressure not good.
• Rachel (9/5): Lovely accommodation with delicious breakfast - Lovely accommodation just off the main road within close walking distance to the train station and lots of bars/restaurants. Rooms were very big, clean and had good hot water. Breakfast was included which was delicious and very big. Hosts were very friendly and helpful, they gave us information about how to access the local walks and buses. There are a lot of steep steps to access the property which wasn’t a problem for us but could be for others. We found it a bit hard to find the accommodation to begin with in the rain and dark as it’s off the main road. As it’s located close to the main road you can hear cars on the road very clearly from the room as well as the nearby bars/restaurants. It was particularly loud on Friday night with the bars staying open late.

• Irshad (10/5): Excellent Property, fully recommended - Almost everything about Sudumal was as I expected. A nice spacious room with window and and nice view from the sitting place just outside the door. The cottage is a secluded place with Jungle like ambience around it but very near to main road. I reached there from railway station in only a few hundred rupees. Only, the approach from the road to the property was harder than I expected because of its height from the main road. There is another hotel at the midway that is closed now. I was confused for a while thinking that Sudumal was closed but then I walked 10-15 steps and found Sudumal board and the new set of stairs going upward. I left my heavier suitcase at that midway closed hotel and climbed up to Sudumal. Then Nimali, the landlady, sent her son downstairs to bring that suitcase to me. Next day, upon my departure also, Nimali's son dropped that suitcase up to the road. And just at that very place I found the bus to Wellawaya. From Wellawaya, I took the bus heading to Colombo that dropped me at my hotel outside Udawalawa National Park. The property is run by Nimali and her family, who are nice, cooperative and friendly. Nimali prepared home made dinner and next morning breakfast for me that were delicious and reasonably charged. I would definitely recommend this property Although Nimali and her family try their best to make the customers comfortable. However, they live at the same place and they have their personal activities too so sometimes it becomes hard to find someone who can attend your needs. 2ndly be prepared for lot of mosquitoes flying around and take the mosquito repellant in time from Nimali.

• Rushdy (10/5): Excellent - She was very friendly and provided us with a delicious and varied breakfast every morning. She gave me advice on places to visit in Ella and bus times. The place was in the middle of nature where you could wake up in the morning by the sounds of birds. Thank you Nimalie for making my stay wonderful and comfortable. Everything was nice
• Horáková (10/5): Exceptional - It was just few minutes from the main street. Easy to walk everywhere. The host was very nice. We had here one of the best Sri Lanka breakfast. She also did laundry for us. Highly recommended!

• Ciaran (9/5): Superb - Location is excellent. Right in the centre of Ella but as its raised above the road, it's quiet. The host was friendly and gave us hot water for coffee and tea each morning. Each house seems separate so we had great privacy. The houses are next to nature with bugs, ants, etc. This might be off putting for some people. Personally I enjoyed being closer to nature.

• Margarita (10/5): Exceptional - Airy, stunning room close to town with incredible views! Such good value for money. Excellent breakfast and very sweet hostesses. Easy quick walk to town. Lots of stairs but got used to it. Shower had hot water, which was amazing. The wifi wasn't great. But that's fine, I just used my mobile data which is cheap in sri lanka.
