Guest Reviews
- alexander (8/5): Charming and upmarket new eastend. - Made very welcome by host Tom and given information needed for our stay. Breakfast was well served and very good value with a good choice. Although we arrived by bus, very easy and within a 10 min walk, there was plenty of local parking. The house was a curiosity with wonders on walls and in public areas. Great. Could do with a tidy up but this added to the chaotic charm. We would definitely return to stay again. Plenty of local cafes, restaurants and shop nearby.
- Haim (10/5): - Very comfortable and clean room, lovely breakfast. It’s not a hotel, it’s a house that gives services like a hotel (and possibly more).
It might be a better solution for some and a matter for others.
Overall it was great!
- David (8/5): Don’t judge a book by its cover. - First impressions not great , but once inside people were very polite and friendly, breakfast was excellent. Would have preferred an en-suite. But overall Quite satisfied.
- Piyush (10/5): - Tom is very kind and helpful.Really like the atmosphere and property.
- Alexandra (10/5): - Clean, friendly, safe
- Martin (10/5): - Hosts are awesome!
- MARTIN (8/5): - Excellent!
- Reaz (8/5): - Okay
- William (8/5): - Very comfortable bed, great breakfast and service.
Slightly strange booking in experience but overall a nice stay and I would certainly stay there again.
- Daniel (10/5): - Very old timey house. The hostess was very good.
- Richard (10/5): - The location of the facility is very serene—nice and very spacious room for the amount charged. I would recommend the facility to others as well.
- kevin (8/5): - Very friendly owners. Could not do enough to make me feel at home. Room was nice and had a comfy bed. I had failed to read my email, requesting arrival time, but I was mad a cup of tea and room was ready within 15 minutes.
Only negative was that the TV was very small.
- Christoph (10/5): - Very nice
- Graham (8/5): - would say basic room but a very comfy bed.breakfast ok
- Scott (10/5): - Great host
- Lee (10/5): Fab B&B - Loved this B&B… clean, comfy place with a great shower! The breakfasts were really nice too.
Tom and Christine are great hosts!
Would definitely stay here again!!
- Martin (10/5): - Excellent decoration intersetinh pieces of art.
- Colin (8/5): - Breakfast was great, the welcoming great overall value for money.
- Farzaneh (10/5): Two-night stay - Tom is very friendly and his place is cozy. We had a comfortable stay and the warm breakfast was a bonus. Would be better if guests have access to the kitchen as well, even limited.
- Rachel (8/5): - Tom is really friendly and goes out of his way to help. Good location to Glasgow.
- Suzanne (10/5): - What a fun quirky place. Hosts were so friendly and beds were very comfortable.
- Oladele (10/5): - In addition to a marvellous property that is truly homely, the owners were amazing. Their openness to share information as well as stories made this a fabulous revisit to Glasgow for me after many years away. In the end they are an amazing double act of genuine expertise and empathy that I very much look forward to meeting in the future!
- Scott (10/5): Holiday - Was welcomed by Tom with a tray tea. He was pleasant attentive and friendly
- Joanne (8/5): - Really nice stay, good amenities in the property. Breakfast was nice. Only 4 stars because on our first night there was argument and noise at 1am which woke us up, it was fine the second day. Otherwise would highly recommend, very nice B&B bed was comfortable.
- Anthony (8/5): Long weekend stay - Situated in a small cul de sac. On arrival was met enthusiastically and couldn't have been much more helpful. Explained everything about the property and nearby area and the best way into the city by foot as we requested. Took us approx 20 to 30 to walk but bus stop not to far away. Parking was good if you have a car was good. Comfy room nice and clean and everything worked as it should. We had a shared bathroom but it does have ensuite ones. Quiet area on top of a hill. Good value for money. No lift though.
- Lesley (2/5): - Horrifying.
Where to begin? List-form seems easiest, so here we go...
We had to phone the owner and wait around in the drizzle to get someone to open the door, and when we were finally allowed inside, we were given the wrong room. The guest house itself was filled with old boxes and miscellaneous items. We were told only upon arrival that there was no wifi.
The owner asked if I would like a whisky and then poured me a glass in a separate room where I couldn't see them. I chose to see this as carelessness rather than any ill intent, but nevertheless, it's a seriously bad look.
My partner was a little unwell at the time - mild food poisoning; the owner suggested that maybe he could 'examine' her later on. He also gave me a handful of pills to give her... with his bare hands. Ew. Again, I'm not suggesting any intentions here, but it was a very weird thing to do and to say.
We were woken up at 6am by a deafening drilling in the hall immediately outside the room. And when I say deafening I mean it: in the vicinity of 90 dbls. This went on for over half an hour. There was no explanation or apology.
Finally, we were ticked off for not coming down for breakfast. I never gave any indication that we would be and I don't appreciate being grumbled at by people who have woken us up with industrial level noise at the crack of dawn.
My partner did not feel comfortable alone in the room and, honestly, I'm not sure I did either!
The whole experience was super creepy and uncomfortable.
- Swannee (4/5): - Very cold, central heating is not on and so rooms are heated with electric heaters.
- Gregory (10/5): - it seems to be in the more industrial part of town, but also where the universities are located. it's not a far walk to buchanon street which has a metro and a lot of excitement around it.
i really enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in a more local location.
- Melissa (10/5): - This is probably the most beautiful house I’ve seen in the UK during my travels and Tom is a wonderful host! Will definitely be back next time around to Glasgow!
- Craig (10/5): - Tom and Christine were very nice people.Heres Wishing Tom a very speedy recovery.I will definatley be staying up there again in the distant future. Kind Regards Craig from Poole Dorset
- Spyros (10/5): - Excellent hosts, awesome breakfast lovely facility very homey
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent hosts, awesome breakfast lovely facility very homey
- Chelsea (10/5): Comfortable Stay - We were greeted by Thomas as soon as we arrived with a cup of tea, breakfast was a lovely spread every morning at 8.30 and was delicious, rooms were kept clean and made everyday. We were very happy with our stay and the hosts were lovely. Would definitely recommend
- Joyanne (10/5): - Quaint property with nice architectural details. Big breakfast room, in dining room. Shared bathroom on upper floor. Good value.
- Michael (10/5): - Tom was a excellent host, breakfast was very good and the room was very comfortable.
- Bryan (8/5): - Very nice hosts, good breakfast and pretty convenient.
- Zofia (8/5): - Had a really nice stay :) The cooked breakfast each morning was super tasty!
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Tom was a terrific host. I got straight off a plane from Sydney jetlagged and sleep deprived and Tom's lively welcome was just what I needed to start my holiday.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Welcoming - Very kind and helpful hosts. Good breakfasts. Excellent location. Interesting guests from all around the world.
- Julia (10/5): - I will definitely stay here again. Lovely homely atmosphere, great breakfast, and friendly owners. The room was great. Thank you for having us!
- Diane (8/5): Don’t let first impressions put you off - Old character building in Glasgow. Tom the owner is super friendly and helpful.
The B&B is a little tired and dated - but offers exactly what it says a Bed - which was clean and comfortable and Breakfast which was acceptable. The lady who organises the breakfast is super friendly and efficient, always refreshing the coffee/milk/juice/toast etc. the breakfast set up is great too and encourages talk with the other guest.
- Jenni Maria (6/5): - I have mixed feelings about this. Purely chose this property for it's great reviews and the fact that it had a private bathroom. Well, it didn't have a private bathroom, it was just next door to my room but it was used by other people too and it was quite difficult to get your "shift" in the morning. The landlord Tom was extremely lovely and kind, even when I arrived quite late to check in, he was very helpful and utterly accommodating. He is such a sweetheart and I don't mean to disrespect him anyway whatsoever. But he did promised me a taxi to my tour (we arranged this the previous night) quite early in the morning and we scheduled to meet at X hour. Never saw a ride or him the next morning, had to catch an Uber in a panic and almost missed my prepaid tour. Also, despite the lovely service, the were no advice where to leave the keys when you leave and to be fair, the place was extremely cluttered. Clean but very disorganised. And the small refrigerator in my room was so incredibly loud I couldn't sleep at all most of the time. Buy again I want to stress, the location, the landlord and room was lovely.
- Sarah (10/5): - This property was very comfortable and clean. Tom and Christine made sure we were taken care of the entire time we were there. It’s an older house, but very cozy and well-appointed. It’s in a safe, drivable and walkable neighborhood. The breakfast offered was varied and had anything one could possibly want. Tom even asked to make sure I didn’t have any dietary restrictions. Someone was always available for help or questions if necessary.
- Stewart (8/5): - Nice room, nice hosts, nice breakfast, good location. felt like staying in someone's house.
Stayed in standard room and did not have a private bathroom none of them do. This was not clear on Hotels.com. Host unable to change situation as all rooms booked.
- Hannah (10/5): - We had a lovely stay. The hosts were very generous, the rooms were big and comfortable and the breakfast was great. There is also very easy access into the city (buses, trains and cheap taxis) and good parking. I would definitely stay here again!
- Pavithra (10/5): - Tom and his Partner were extremely helpful and made our short trip to Glasgow extremely enjoyable! We felt welcomed and the entire building and rooms are super charming. Highly recommend booking your stay here and if possible planning your trip around availability here.
- John (10/5): Nice little b&b spot on - A bit of a delay in answering the door with several bell buttons but once opened Tom was great and the room fit our needs and the breakfast was really nice. We will definitely stay there again
- Arby (4/5): - Host, Tom barely showed his face while his harried and overworked housekeeper always appeared to be in the crisis mode. Food was not great.
- John (10/5): - Nice clean room and bathroom. Comfy bed. Excellent breakfast. Lovely couple running it. 2 miles out of the centre at a great price.
- Jon (10/5): - Great stay thanks Tom
- Moira (6/5): - Decor and carpets very dated.duck tape on the stairs
- Gregory (10/5): - Very nice.
- paula (10/5): - We stayed for 2 nights as we were attending a funeral. Tom was very friendly greeting us when we first arrived with offer of tea or coffee, which was very welcome after a long journey. Slept very well, breakfast great, sitting with other interesting guests. Very good value for money, would highly recommend. Short walk from Bellgrove train station recommend not to take the shortest route Google maps suggest as this took us up the steepest hill to get to the property and easier routes are available. Highly recommend Amore d'Italia restaurant near by authentic Italian.
- Maria (10/5): - We stayed for only 2 nights, but it was a really good experience. Will definitely be back and will recommend this place
- Danielle (10/5): - Tom and his partner were amazing. The breakfast was good and we loved our room. They even did our laundry. I would diffinatly stay here again. I loved the house.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This B and B was in a perfect location for my partner and I because it isn't next to a busy road so it was nice and quiet. There was a few small shops within walking distance and was easy getting from place to place. The host was fantastic, good company, very cheerful and friendly. I would stay here again when I come back to Glasgow.
- Danielle (8/5): - Really lovely place to stay, very charming, traditional B&B. We enjoyed the place and recommendations from the host. It is a little bit away from the hustle and bustle, so it is not the most convenient location if you are trying to be out and about in Glasgow.
- Brian (8/5): Room with potential - Upon arrival the front garden was a bit overgrown making it difficult to see the house name and number, cleaned up and tidied by Saturday night when we got back. Good job. Upon entering the house it was very untidy with lots of old electrical items lying around. Entering the so called communal room was pretty much the same with old lps lying all over the place and a turntable lying on floor. This sort of thing doesn’t bother me but it does others. All it needs is a good clear out of junk?. Finally, Breakfast was tasty enough but why oh why do they not just ask people what they want for breakfast and serve it on a plate instead of it in a bowl and help yourself such a waste of food. Room was clean and tidy enough but some work needs to be done in communal areas. I would stay here again as it was good value for money and not too far from city centre
- Chloe (10/5): - The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, giving us suggestions for things to do locally and even providing us with local cab numbers! The facilities were lovely, and especially excellent for the price! We had a great stay here and will be back again.
- guy bruno (8/5): - Sympa
- Lucille (10/5): - Very Victorian and in a quiet area.
- Renato (10/5): - The location seems distant, but the access to public transportation is less than a 10 minute walk. The neighborhood is quiet and safe
- Christiana (10/5): - The host were wonderful, it was a perfect stay
- Eleanor (10/5): - The owner was very accommodating and friendly. Location is about 10 min bus from the centre! The room is homely and clean. Breakfast was great.
- Robert (8/5): - Excellent staff and service. Very friendly. Superb breakfast. Comfortable rooms.
- John (10/5): - Great host
- Diana (10/5): - Wonderful experience! We were greeted warmly and treated like old friends. A plentiful family style Scottish breakfast was a great start to our day, and a 15 minute walk got us to the Red Hop On Hop Off bus line that brought us to all the sites we were interested in. The house is conveniently located and in a safe & very quiet neighborhood.
- nicholas (10/5): Good stay at Glasgow - Claremont House proved to be an excellent place to stay in Glasgow. Breakfast was first-class and the room was veery comfortable. There was good parking nearby and many restaurants to visit.
- Arthur (2/5): - After reviewing photos and previous reviews, I cannot see how these reflected the facility I attended. The host welcomed myself in pyjamas and a scruffy dressing gown. There was clutter everywhere, in the passage and living room. Everything smelt foisty and unpleasant. There was rubbish around the building, and the decking area was a mess, unlike the photohraphs. I drove 5 hours to be presented with this. We left immediately and sought alternative accommodation. The surroundings were not as seen in the photos. We feel we were sold a poor quality product. I have the receipt but no refund.
- Gavin (4/5): - Place was a hoarders paradise boxs and boxes sitting around just stuff every where dust and cobwebs wow would be nice with a good clean and a paint.
- Jake (4/5): - From the second the door opened the mess and clutter in the hall sitting/dining room. Was awful.the rooms were dirty dust every where carpet was filthy stains on bedcover.
Breakfast was cooked and left on table in bowls but not enough chairs for all guests if full.son had to heat breakfast up in microwave as it had been sitting out for 10 mins.needs a overhaul and gutted.
- John (8/5): - First of all , Tom is a lovely host friendly and had suggestions for dining and taxi service . Room was clean and comfortable with plenty of space for moving around . Breakfast was very hospitable and yummy food provided with company at one table with the other B&B persons. My only issue was that four rooms shared a bathroom on the second storey so maybe a suggestion would be to have potentially scheduled shower times or cleaning supplies to share between persons visiting . Thanks
- Tracy (10/5): - Very large room, clean and tidy with a sink. Shared restroom with other rooms on the floor. It was nice to have breakfast daily and not a far walk from the main part of the city. There is also bus stops and a train station near by.
- James (10/5): - Hosts are so welcoming in a quiet residential area, walkable into city centre. Excellent breakfast choices, comfy large warm room with everything you need and so reasonable for the city
- Linda (10/5): Great value, clean & fabulous breakfast - Lovely quiet location with friendly hosts. Tom went the extra mile assisting us with luggage. Breakfast was excellent, such a great choice of food & great cooked breakfast. Comfortable, clean beds & a helpful fridge & sink in bedroom. Great value for money. Only recommendation for improvement was there was no highchair available for my son.
- Natalya (10/5): - Tom was a graceous and welcoming host. We absolutely loved our stay. Highly recommend Clairemont house for anyone who is looking for a personable and authentic experience!
- Verified traveler (8/5): quiet relaxation - Being a solo American traveler, I was not accustomed to staying at a bed and breakfast.
The room was clean and the place was quiet and in a quiet neighborhood. I was a little leery of walking in the neighborhood after dark because there wasn't much lighting.
Four stars has to do with breakfast because I am used to the spread being put out early in the morning. Breakfast hours or options were not posted.
- Lily (6/5): - Very old
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value for money - A very pleasant stay in a lovely house with the hosts being most welcoming from the minute I walked through the door.
The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The only downside is the fact toilet/shower facilities are shared, but this was known before hand, so no complaints here. The facilities were spotless.
Plenty on offer for breakfast, although if you’re not there early, the cooked selection will get cold.
The hosts were very helpful when I lost my mobile phone, making phone calls on my behalf and doing their utmost to try and help me recover it. Thank you very much for that.
Overall, a great place to base yourself for a visit to Glasgow if you’re looking for great value for money accommodation. I will certainly be returning in my next visit to the city.
- Simon (10/5): Brilliant place kind owner - Brilliant experience! Our host Tom was very very kind indeed and made our stay perfect
Breakfast 5 star quality and the room quiet with a good bed and high ceiling. All good, highly recommend this place thanks!!
- ADEWALE (10/5): Fantastic stay - Tom was just so and very excellent. Tom was available to guide me through till I got to the hotel. He welcomed me so warmly. The room was exactly as I saw it online while booking. Every place was clean and smooth. The toilet flushed so great. The breakfast was fantastic, varieties to choose from me and the chef could make what you preferred for sausages. It was easily accessible to the city center through bus. The place is not far from Duke street in which there are many grocery stores, charity shops, and international and local restaurant. If I happen to be in Glasgow, I will definitely book with Claremont B&B.
- Catherine (10/5): - Tom is the Host with the Most-est! He greeted us when we arrived earlier than planned, made us tea and helped us settle in to our new stay. Breakfast was wonderful and really set us off on a full belly. Our room was spacious, clean, with a sink, tea area and great TV.
We highly recommend this property and Tom! He made our stay in Glasgow extra special. Thanks, Tom!
- Grace (8/5): - Beautiful home. Was nice to stay in a place that felt historic.
- Tunisia (10/5): - Host and the lady who makes breakfast/does room service are very nice. The host lives there, which makes the atmosphere have more of a personal touch. At the same time, the host isn’t too in your business. Beautiful Edwardian (?) home. The walls are thick, so you can’t hear the other guests. Very comfortable mattresses with nice goose down pillows and duvets. Do bring your own washcloths and toiletries, also a spare roll of toilet paper, as we ran out in the middle of the night a couple times, which was the only downside.
- Julie (10/5): Wonderful! - Our stay at the Claremont Hotel was wonderful! Great price, great location, a beautiful home. But, what made it so great, was Tom, the most lovely and friendly person, who did everything to make sure you enjoyed your stay in his home. Also, Christine who made sure she served a hot and tasty breakfast each morning, as well as cleaning/tidying your room. Our room was at the front of the house, large, tastefully decorated, and a really comfy bed! I really couldn’t recommend a stay with Tom enough. Would definitely return! ❤️❤️
- w (10/5): Long weekend stay glasgow - Excellent location and service with large rooms and breakfast.Peter was very helpful and checkin easy. Will be back again thanks.
- Helen (4/5): - The food was awful and cheap tasting so didn't eat much and was poorly cooked and prepared. Choice was limited. The breakfast was serve yourself and served at 8.30 which is quite rigid to be honest. No shower gel or soap in the bathroom which is ridiculous to be honest. We saw the host once and he looked flustered and stressed and not particularly welcoming. Neither was the woman who did the breakfasts. I asked for an extra orange juice and some white bread for toast and you would think I was asking for the world. I didn't feel welcomed at all despite paying to stay there. The hosts need to work on their manners and improve their customer service to be honest.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean, friendly and great location. - Overall very friendly, clean and nice venue a little tatty in places but not an issue for me really. Location also great and not to far from the station so easy to get into the centre. My only issue would be that the requested vegetarian breakfast was cooked in the same fat as meat so I wasn't able to eat it as all. If you have a special diet, I would advise you call and speak to them beforehand. But I would stay there again.
- Heather (10/5): - We stayed for 2 nights. We loved the house.it has loads of period features and a great big window on the stairs. Our bed was comfy, and the room big, with a fridge to store our wine. The shower was great, way better than mine at home! Quiet neighbourhood and a quick walk to the train station into town. Tom and Christine were lovely, and the generous breakfast kept us going for ages. We'll be back
- Christiana (10/5): - This was a very nice place. Staff were nice and welcoming l. Rooms were neat for the stay
- Saleem (8/5): - Really enjoyed the stay. Tom, the owner was very polite and accommodating. Hotel place about 10 mins walk from busy high street, with a great 8ndian restaurant nearby. A central postition close to the city centre and motorway. Big plus, free car parking.
- Victoria (6/5): - Our rooms were ensuite, spacious and comfortable and the shower was fine although no toiletries are provided, just hand wash. The house is big and has been grand but is now tired and in need of a lot of updating. There was an oil heater in our bedrooms that was adequate if left on all the time, but the breakfast/sitting room was cold and drab. Having a fridge in the room was helpful for milk, wine etc. and there is a microwave in the living room for guests to use. Tom was very hospitable and down-to-earth. Christine who brought breakfast was also very helpful with local information. If you eat meat, you're ok. For us, we'd have liked a continental breakfast but weren't offered a choice, so a big bowl of bacon and sausages was wasted. Lastly, if you don't know Glasgow, Claremont House is around 1 mile from the city centre. The 38 bus isn't far away but we mostly walked in and then on to the West End for galleries, gardens and food. It was great to get a good feel for the city this way.
- Sophie (10/5): A warm welcome and great value - recommended! - We stayed with Tom at Claremont House for the weekend whilst we visited Glasgow for Celtic Connections. We received a warm Glasgow welcome from Tom and he even offered us a cuppa when we arrived. The room we stayed in was spacious, warm, and immaculately clean. There was also a small fridge and tea/coffee-making facilities. Night times were very quiet and we slept well. Breakfast was enjoyable with cereal, yoghurts, and cooked options. This place is great value for money, and a good option if like us we were looking for a traditional guest house experience. There is free parking out front, which is a bonus, and you can get to this place without having to pay for the clean air zone charge.
- Richard (10/5): - A spacious and comfortable townhouse B&B. Easy to find and park in street. Even though we arrived early owner very accommodating. Large comfortable room and bathroom. Great to be able to use large living/dining room in evenings for drinks, etc with family. Excellent breakfast included. Glasgow a great surprise. Loved it. Very interesting.
- Jenny (10/5): - Really nice house, lovely people running the place, tasty breakfast, felt very welcome.
- Sercan (10/5): - Great hosts, location
Good value for money
- Kenneth (8/5): - the bed breakfast was good host was very helpful for telling us where to get some food also the breakfast at place was very good plenty of choice also even though host (tom ) was unwell he made us welcome too
- Verified traveler (10/5): Superb host, room and location - Tom is a charismatic and welcoming host. Bed mega comfy. Room clean. Loads of nice touches like coffee or a beer on arrival and a run down of what’s good nearby. Would 100% recommend for solos or couples. Didn’t try breakfast but always smelt great.
- William (8/5): - The hosts are very welcoming and friendly.
The room was comfortable, had a proper couch and armchair; also a sink and small fridge. There was an electrical multi-socket beside the bed for all your gadgets.
Parking in the street in front of the property was easy but might be a problem if they are fully booked; limited parking in the driveway. The rooms are not ensuite.
- Heather (8/5): - Convenient location.
Clean, comfortable room.
Great information on how to get around and where to eat.
