Guest Reviews
- Hazel (10/5): - Great location, amazing views, great food and staff that were lovely and who really made our stay very comfortable and welcoming. Thank you! N/A
- Ruth (9/5): Lovely break in a stunning location with great food - Great location for walks. Lovely food though surprised that there was only cooked breakfast in the morning, no fruit or yoghurt. No heating on the first night but was sorted the bext day. Normally heating not such an issue in May but it has been so cold lately.
- Mary (8/5): Lovely location and friendly staff. - Fabulous location. Very helpful and friendly staff but not many of them! Expensive food and drinks. Was well cooked but overpriced. Seems to be in the process of turning into a more upmarket hotel but not quite there yet. Upstairs needs a bit of tlc.
- louise (10/5): Excellent, comfy & fantastic location - Welcoming, clean & beautifully decorated
- Lynette (9/5): Lovely clean room with modern and nicely equipped en-suite. - Beautiful location and fabulous breakfast. No bedside table or lamp on the one side of the bed and the bedding was not the right size for the super king bed.
However, the bed was super comfortable but would have been better with a super king quilt and not the king size smaller one.
- Pauline (10/5): Excellent location, good food, v comfortable room - Excellent location, good food, v comfortable room.
- Christine (8/5): Recently refurbished rooms were excellent & comfortable but the food choices let the place down. - Lovely position. Good bedroom & bathroom with a bath. The food choice on an evening was quite limited. The veg & chips were covered in rock salt. Similarly the booked breakfast. No cereals, fruit or pastries at breakfast.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- phillip (10/5): - The staff were very helpful and professional Nothing, it was a lovely stay
- Gail (10/5): -
- Paul (6/5): Pleasant but a few minor tweaks would make a world of difference - The food available on the breakfast menu
was excellently cooked (as was the evening meal) but the choice was very limited, a cooked breakfast or nothing, no cereal or fruit or yogurt and we had to ask for toast and marmalade . The dining room was quite chilly and with hardly any tables set or decorated lacked atmosphere. The staff( all 2 of them) we encountered responded immediately to requests but one in particular seemed to have been charged with too many jobs and there was the impression noone was overseeing the day to day running of the hotel. On the plus side the bed was very comfortable and the pillows were excellent . Breakfast choices
No tissues or bathmat
Drinks tray not refilled on second day
Constant pop music playing in public areas even when only us there
- Porritt (10/5): - Room and facilities were 10/10 Food and beverages are on the pricier side but aside from our stay was 10/10
- Kathryn (9/5): -
- Jo (7/5): -
- Steven (8/5): Fantastic location, friendly and helpful staff.. Disnt get chance to try the evening meals as we arrived late due to a l - Location and the property, ticked the boxes.
Staff were excellent.. Running slightly late in the morning to open up for breakfast but only a few minutes.. Overall very cheerful and helpful. Nothing to dislike, breakfast could be served earlier than the 8:15am start time but no concerns..
- Ian (9/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- NEIL (9/5): - Size and high standard of room. Quality of the food provided. Door slamming at the bottom of the stairs.
- catherine (9/5): Great break in the Lakes - Lovely location in the middle of the Langdale valley. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Fiona (9/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): Loved it! - The location was beautiful, the staff were lovely. We booked a suite and we were really happy with it. The bathroom was fantastic. The food was really good. The staff were young but the service was excellent, so top marks from us Our room was a bit chilly, but we did mention it, and they turned the heating up, and it was fine. Menu wasn't extensive, but the food was great.
- jackson (8/5): Amazing find - Absolutely stunning pub in a stunning location. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was beautifully decorated. Evening meal was excellent. Only 2 tea bags in the room, not enough milk and you had to wait till after 8 for tea or breakfast. Breakfast needs more attention. Porridge oats out, not sure why because you couldn't make it with cold milk? Other choice was cheap cornflakes. No fruit pastries or yoghurt s . Only toast that you can make yourself, delicious butter. Sent my breakfast back twice, then settled for something else, the chef was having a bad day , understandably it happens.
- Alison (9/5): -
- Andrew (9/5): A beautiful inn nestled in a gorgeous part of the lakes with delicious food. - Beautiful location, delicious food, wonderful staff (especially the lady who looked after us all weekend - I wish I knew her name). The only negative was that there was very little hot water in the cottage we stayed in but to be fair, as we were only staying one night we didn’t bother asking the staff about it or I’m sure they would have sorted it out.
- Colin (10/5): -
- liam (8/5): -
- Christine (10/5): Relaxing and cosy. - It’s in a beautiful location, very cosy and charming. Very beautifully furnished and lovely bathroom. The food is exceptional too. There’s nothing not to like.
- michael (6/5): A great base for walking - Room was very nice with excellent bathroom - difficult to fault. Staff very pleasant and helpful when asked but not very proactive.
G Food was a bit on the strange side. Even breakfast had the pretentions of a chef who would really like to work in a Michelin starred place. Large downstairs rooms were not very warm.
- MARTYN (4/5): disappointing but with a few cosmetic changes it can be made better. more staff needed - location and room
food quality was good very few ground floor furnishings and decoration - lack of atmosphere
lack of enough staff at times
toilets in bar - v poor
- Andrew (9/5): - Great location and a great little pub/restaurant away from the crowds. Evening meal and breakfast very good
- Nazar (9/5): -
- Helena (9/5): - Great location for walks
- Michael (10/5): - Comfortable, warm, great location.
Friendly staff, fantastic food.
- Jess (10/5): -
- Tina (9/5): -
- christopher (9/5): - The room was excellent. Very clean, comfortable and nicely furnished.
The food was of a high standard, maybe a little pricey. The breakfast could have been improved by having more choice in the buffet.
Additional cereals, porridge.
There was no option for tea with the breakfast, only coffee.
- Cheryl (10/5): Perfect for exploring the Langdales - Great location, Friendly staff. Superb dinner and breakfast. Nothing
- Cunningham (10/5): - The whole experience was grate from start to Finnish the staff were very helpful and the food was full of flavor. And the veiw from our room just kept giving with all the colors changing with the weather
- Tony (10/5): Couldn’t fault any of the stay. The room was great, staff fantastic as was the food - Very nice place, nothing we didn’t like
- Penny (9/5): Very nice - Comfortable and clean with friendly staff Evening menu tried too hard to offer gastro food which didn’t come off and was very expensive
- Piotr (8/5): Fantastic place. - The location is fantastic, a little village surrounded by nature. Staff was very nice, food was good, especially breakfast. Room was very cosy with a nice view. There was no internet in our room at all or a signal. It wasn't a problem for us but if someone needs it, be aware.
- Paul (9/5): Great stay - Great rooms, wonderful bath, lovely fire in the the pub and the lounge, great staff Evening meal was good, but a bit too fancy (and a bit too expensive). We really wanted a good hearty dinner and not haute-cuisine after a day walking on the fells. Would be better to include some of the options that were on the lunch menu in the evening.
- Darren (6/5): Great location, fabulous food & drink and I can only see things improving. - The room was very clean and comfortable. The evening meal was very good on both nights, table service was lacking that extra touch of attention to detail, especially at breakfast. I’m sure this will improve before my next visit in Spring. I was not made aware prior to booking that refurbishing work ongoing.
- Robert (10/5): - An all round good experience
- Steve (10/5): Perfect getaway - Cosy and welcoming. Comfortable bed, friendly staff. Food was excellent. Nothing
- Bruce (10/5): Lovely stay, great staff and lovely little menu not over complicated - Remoteness All ok
- Clare (8/5): Absolutely stunnng views and lovely, cosy rooms with power shower! Katie is a wonderful hostess and works so hard to mak - We arrived the first day of reopening so obviously parts of the bar restaurant were still getting refurbished! Not a problem to us, looking forward returning and seeing the place in full bloom. Staff were super friendly, especially Katie who literally ran the place for the whole time we were there. I think you need more staff as we waiting over an hour for our evening meal and breakfast!
The meal was nice but not worth £34 (steak) cooked well but nothing special.
Location is 10/10 - the walks nearby are a must and the pub offers recommendations and books on suitable walks.
Overall, we would definitely stay again but not sure we would eat here! Waiting far too long for breakfast and our evening meal.
Overpriced compared to other pubs in the lakes.
- Sheridan (8/5): Our return to the restaurant was not disappointed, food excellent. The room was cosy and well appointed and lovely new b - Beautiful peaceful location Renovations almost completed, just a minor issue really
- Ed 007 (10/5): - The youg girl is a credit to the owners she does everything, she ran the bar the restaurant nothing was too much trouble. She deserves a medal 🏅
. All good 👍
- Elaine (8/5): Very much enjoyed our stay - Location, public rooms for guests More Gluten free options - eg. Cereal, Bread and Sausages for breakfast
- Jon (10/5): -
- Gail (7/5): Would not stay again. - Accommodation was good. Didn't have breakfast as the dinner night before left a lot to be desired! The dinner of soup, inedible, the main of burger was very disappointing. The managers attitude in the morning as we were departing was not very friendly.
- Kate (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Very pleasant stay in dramatic countryside. - Hearty breakfast. Varied choices. Excellent service. Ideal location for walkers and outdoors types. No complaints.
- Thea (9/5): We will be visiting again!! - The staff were lovely and extremely helpful. The room was big, the bed was comfy and had a perfect view of the hills. Exceptional evening meal. The room could have been cleaner, but was clean enough for walkers.
- Martin (10/5): Would return in a heartbeat - Stunning surroundings matched by the friendliness of the staff, and facilities Would have loved some pastries at breakfast and the hash brown was a little odd. Stick to the traditional recipe 😉
- Marie (10/5): A fabulous comfortable hotel in a lovely peaceful location with excellent hosts. - The staff were very helpful and really welcoming and the hotel has a lovely chilled vibe. The bedrooms are super and bathrooms looked new and were spotless. We had both breakfast and dinner in the hotel twice and everyone in the party thought the food was very delicious. The heating in the junior suite, separate from the main building, didn’t seem to be working but heaters were provided.
- Gareth (10/5): Picturesque Hotel with everything you need for relaxing in the lakes - The property was well furnished and very clean. It was in picturesque surroundings of the lakes. The property was spacious and had everything you needed. Nothing
- Stella (8/5): -
- William (9/5): -
- stuart (3/5): Lost the family feel under the new management - The location…The steak was nice Waited over 1hr 30 mins for keys to my room which ended up not even being in the main hotel.always loved coming to this hotel as it felt like a small cozy relaxing hotel with log fires and good food and drink.this time it felt almost like we were not part of the hote..disappointed and won’t return
- William (10/5): -
- Simon (10/5): -
- Jack (9/5): - Staff were really friendly and calm and well suited to the peaceful location.
Bar and restaurant were great with the New Year's Taster being an excellent experience for us.
Location was beautiful and very close to great walks and views (Stickle Tarn being where we went).
Room was very comfy and whole place was easygoing.
- Gabriele (9/5): - Das Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit
- Susan (10/5): We had a very memorable stay and will definitely recommend to friends and family - Breakfast was delicious.
Hotel was in beautiful surroundings, Leaving to come home
- Lynn (7/5): -
- Christine (9/5): -
- Cathryn (8/5): A lovely comfortable stay - the location awesome and the staff really friendly and helpful. - Helpful and very welcoming staff. Cosy lounge with a real fire for the evenings. Restaurant on site. Great breakfast menu. The location is extremely beautiful and you are close to some wonderful walking options. I felt that there could have been more vegetarian options on the evening menu. Parmigiana was on the menu but the meal came and was a vegetable lasagne. I chose the parmigiana for its low carb ingredients …. lasagne is not low carb, so it could just have been pointed out at the time of ordering.
The breakfast options were great but no continental breakfast offered, no fruit, no pastries and the on tap coffee in a vacuum jug was so weak and tasteless. A barista coffee was charged as extra and this just felt mean. Also had to wait for the machine to be switched on.
- Donna (10/5): Perfect little place and would definitely be back - Cosy, friendly and felt well looked after. Lovely clean and cosy room and the food was superb Nothing, loved it all. It’s in a secluded little spot but you had everything you needed.
- Michael (10/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): Great location, fantastic staff & food was first class! - Great location & lovely food! Nothing

- James (9/5): Comfortable overnight stay - Warm welcome, very comfortable accommodation and beds, food and service excellent. N/a
- Graeme (10/5): Very restful and would definitely return. - A warm friendly welcome.
The room was well furnished and the bathroom, the same. The shower and bath control was perfect, wall mounted too.
Dining didn’t disappoint, friendly and great food. Intermittent WiFi but not really an issue.
- Chris (8/5): - Very slow service for breakfast.
That slow I assumed that my order had been forgotten.Despite only a few people at breakfast.I was not alone in feeling the wait was too long
- Neil (8/5): Enjoyable stay - Location, food, showers Poor wifi service every apart from the front lounge, single beds were a bit short for people over 6ft tall
- Roger (10/5): Putting customer service and comfort first. - It is difficult to recommend this property as I could not fault anything. By saying that it will most probably be fully booked for evermore and I will never manage to stay again.
On a serious note, the food, staff, value for money and property were all excellent. From check in to checkout I was made to feel welcome. Nothing
