Guest Reviews
- Javier (8/5): - Positives: clean, calm, relaxing, great service (Carlos and Duvin were very helpful during the stay) peaceful. Negatives: far / complicated to get there, to much light at night, ventilation consider a fan for bed. Beach needs more sand it was mostly coral
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wunderschöner Ort zum Herunterfahren und Entspannen. Super nettes Personal. Würde sofort wieder dorthin gehen.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Barú was cool - The staff is very friendly and in general the place is very nice. There are a lot of small wasps and other insects that were in our bathroom, but the room has mosquito nets, so sleeping wasn't an issue. The food was excellent considering how remote it is. Getting to and from the hotel is a bit complicated and it is best to purchase transport through the hostel.
- Patrick Alexander (10/5): Amazing experience. - Amazing experience. Daisy was this best and was a huge help, especially for getting us home. It is more remote than we anticipated, so make sure you do some research and figure your traveling out ahead of time!
- Rosa (10/5): Friendly service - Receptionists were very welcoming! Place has potential.
- Tawny (10/5): Media Luna Baru - Place was clean and beautiful. Only get coffee if they happen to have it that day and not till breakfast is served around 9 9:30. Really would have loved to have coffee or at least hot water when we got up. Also ran out of some beer and other things. But great views. Beach had lots of coral so getting in and out of water cut your feet if not wearing water shoes. Daisy was super nice at reception
- Giovanna (2/5): - La verdad es que nisiquiera me hospede en este lugar, no sabía que la reserva no se había cancelado y me di cuenta cuando revisé mi cuenta y vi el cobro. Q triste
- Remco (10/5): Mixed feelings - We really had a amazing stay at Media Luna! We met nice people and we enjoyed the beach and sea.
But we were expecting much more from the hostel, it’s really not as described at the reservation site hotels.com. It is really basic, no cleaning of our room(in the 5 nights we stayed), no safe, no curtains and the power and WiFi are not always on. Baru is not 1 minute walk but 15 min walk and can be reached only by boat.
- S V (8/5): Chill place - I only wanted to do 2 things whilst at Media Luna: relax and see the plankton. I got to do both and really enjoyed my stay. Daisy was friendly and there’s a great chef although food is a bit overpriced but that was expected. Good place to chill for a few days! Recommend going to their Cartagena hostel and sorting transport through them as it was so easy
- Elena (10/5): Amazing and relaxing, loved it! - This hostel was great, do yourself a favour and book a couple of nights there! The hostel has a couple of shelters where guests stay, each of them with bathroom and toilet, mosquito net on of each bed, sockets and lights. There is a big shelter for the restaurant and chilling area, and then everything you need to enjoy the beach like deck chairs, beach umbrellas, beach shoes for the corals, even kayak, ping pong table and a volleyball net. The number of guests is limited so it is absolutely relaxing and quiet and safe, you can safely go and dip in the see and leave your things on the chair. The staff makes everything possible to make your stay the best one and they really make the difference, really lovey people that treat you like family, there is Blas in reception, really fun to talk to and super helpful, and Robert the cook that is happy to accommodate any dietary requirements (eg I’m veggie and it wasn’t a problem). Food is generous, home made and cheap (15mil pesos for a big meal, dessert and drink). I really enjoyed my stay there, the sea is beautiful and peaceful and I totally recharged my batteries there.
- John (8/5): - Great experience but hard to get there. Few tips: 1. You get there by boat. Expedia doesn’t say
Anything about taking boats plus GPS mapping is incorrect. Make sure you can catch a boat early from Playa Blanca in Baru or else you will have to get a private boat which is super expensive. I learned from this mistake. The hostel is super chill, hammocks and games in the common area plus a lounge to read a book. You are far from civilization and you get a peace of mind. I got the private room and has a ceiling fan. No air conditioning but the fan worked really good. Bugs do enter the room so make sure you have bug spray. The door to your room doesn’t have a lock so lock your luggage for safety. You have to share a bathroom and it’s located outside the building. There are
No screens in shower so there will be bugs. The food and drinks were fantastic. Daisy, the receptionist spoke fluent English and she was super
Nice. Ask for the Daisy on the Rocks for a special drink. The beach is private but make sure to bring water sandals since the bottom of the ocean is all dead corals. Other activities include ping pong, swings, kayak and snorkeling.
