Guest Reviews
- Hocking (10/5): Amazing accommodation near lakeside transport hub with Mt Fuji view and generous and thoughtful host. -
- Matthew (10/5): - The owner spoke excellent English and was very helpful with recommendations and directions around the area. Very friendly!
- Jessica (10/5): Perfect place to stay - Great location with very nice hosts and a perfect home cooked meal
- Jonathan (9/5): Great fun - What a charming and amusing host Mac is. He cooked us a terrific chicken hotpot on the first night and his breakfasts arent bad either. Beware everything in Hakone closes very early at night.
- Mark (9/5): Echt heel goed.
- Tess (10/5): A great stay! Highly recommend! - We loved it here. A perfect little hotel, and the host was a lovely man who was extremely helpful and informative. He made sure we had the best possible stay and prepared a delicious breakfast in the morning. Our room was a great size, and it was a nice touch having to set up our own futons in the traditional Japanese style. Despite being on tatami flooring, everything was very comfortable, and the futons were nice and thick. The location was directly opposite the sightseeing cruise port, making it an ideal starting point for touring Hakone. We would highly recommend this place. Nothing. It was a great stay.
- Tom (9/5): A great location with knowledgeable staff and delicious meals. - Staff extraordinarily friendly and helpful regarding local transportation and sights. Meals were delicious and served in a quant and home-like dining area. Location great being across from bus hub and ships that cross the lake, and yet was very quiet setting. A view of Mt. Fuji from my bedroom pleasantly surprised me in the morning. I'd stay again. In my room, the mattress didn't quite have the support or cushioning I was hoping for.
- Franck (9/5): Superbe!
- Luke Steven (2/5): -
- Carolina (10/5): Espaçosa - Our host was the best we had in our entire trip to Japan. We are very happy to have met him 💗
- Yee Kiat (7/5): -
- Bret (8/5): We enjoyed our stay in Hakone, Jemstay staff was great and location was perfect! - The staff was welcoming and food was tasty. The facilities are dated but functional. We were unable to get hot water in our bathroom.
- Denis (9/5): Fantastic service and an excellent on-site restaurant. - The service and hospitality of the onsite restaurant was exceptional, both for dinner and breakfast. MaC Hattori was an incredibly kind and considerate host. Would defiantly go back to this this Inn.
- francisco (9/5): -
- Jiang (7/5): - The owner of the shop speaks fluent English and has a humorous, engaging personality. It feels very traditional. The Wi-Fi was basically nonexistent and couldn’t be used.
- Jennifer (8/5): Wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome. - Easy to find, clean and warm.
- Joe (8/5): -
- kevin (10/5): -
- christophe (8/5): -
- Marco (8/5): - Cordialità titolare e cena hot pot Stanza piccola e rumorosa causa condizioni atmosferiche esterne, vento e pioggia
- Deliwirie (10/5): What a fantastic stay!! - The owner Mac, is a wonderful man and his personal touch is wonderful. He also speaks a very good English and are always willing to give advice. Rooms are spacious and good. Very clean and effective. If you can, enjoy one of their Japanese chicken hot pots for dinner. Absolutely delicious. Just remember you have to book beforehand. Very nice little hotel which comes very highly recommended. Nothing!
Ideaal! Niets.
- Laurene (7/5): Mac san is lovely. Very helpful & informative. He looked after us well - Location is perfect Tap in bathroom only gave out a tiny trickle of water when using it. Shower/toilet room was too small.
Bon petit dejeuner Rien
- Tomas (10/5): Recommend stay for short and long trips with in-house dining. - Very close to the Hakone-Machi port, very comfortable and clean rooms (even they are old fashion style) very nice and helpful owner. His lovely wife prepared a perfect dinner. I recommend it for both short but also for long trips.
- Peter (9/5): A delightful place to stay with wonderful hosts. - The location was ideal, very close to the sightseeing cruise port and the bus station. The hosts, Mack & Yuko were delightful and very welcoming. Mack offered helpful suggestions for transportation and sightseeing. I highly recommend staying at the Jemsty Inn Hakone Ashinoko. Water pressure for the bathroom sink was very low.
- Ariel (9/5): - Amazing vegan hotpot. Highly recommend.
- Gualberto (10/5): Hakone 💎 Gem - Mr. Mack is very accommodating, shares knowledge of Japan, guided us with traditional Japanese etiquette, food was good, water from Mt. hakone is better than the bottled water! 😀 place is bus accessible, close to the boats, this place is clean, and hospitable.
- Leyla (10/5): Zeker aangeraden - Super vriendelijke man. Spreekt goed Engels. Niks
- Michele (8/5): -
- BOXU (8/5): -
- Aileen (7/5): Good - The owner MaC san and his staff were very friendly. You'll feel at home.
The room is very clean, too.
The breakfast was very good. The Wifi was very weak, even the 2G. We had difficulty logging in during our 2 nights stay.
There's also no tv in the room. We will on our youtube or music when we returned to the room in the evening.
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - It was really helpful, really nice location, nice breakfast
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Great location for trips Very little choice of places to eat
- Canevese (10/5): Exceptional - Good location next to bus stations and also possibility to rent bikes nearby, nice room really cosy and comfortable.
But above all, we reveived the warmest and loveliest welcome from MaC who is always caring and available to offer his help !
If you need a stay in Hakone don’t hesitate and go to Jemsty !
- Romaniuk (10/5): Exceptional - Very convenient location, just across the road from the bus stop. Clean, comfortable room with aircon and heating. We were lucky to get the room with a view of Mt Fuji.
The owner was very helpful with advice on how to maximise our stay at Hakone. Good breakfast. Nothing.
- Jeroen (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (7/5): Good - Location
- Kaushik (1/5): No value for 41000 Yen for a single night and sleeping in floor with my daughter caught cold - Location In the Booking.com Hotel pictures, there were beds. But the actual hotel rooms allocated had Tatami FLOOR futon for sleeping. There were no glass windows. Instead there were papers pasted in place of glass in window frames. My daughter caught cold. Breakfast was not good. Overall experience was just like staying under strict discipline of Hotel owner.
- Jaime (9/5): A memorable stay - MaC, the proprietor, was so helpful before and during our stay. He gave us very clear instructions for arriving via bus from Odawara station and great advice for accessing the attractions around Hakone. He was also very friendly and interesting to talk with. Interacting with him was a highlight of our time in Hakone! The location is a block away from Lake Ashi and the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise port, which allows you to board before the crowd of people get on at Motohakone, and across the street from the Hakonemachi-ko bus terminal. It is also just down the road from Onshi-Hakone Park, which is beautiful. We ate in the on-site restaurant the first night and really enjoyed the chicken hotpot. We were able to find a nearby restaurant the second night. The included breakfast was simple but provided a great start to the day. We had a Western-style room, which was a good size and comfortable. We aren't used to small establishments like this where everything happens at set times with limited flexibility (dinner only at 6 p.m., breakfast only at 8 a.m., limited hours for luggage storage). We were able to adapt and are still glad we chose Jemsty, but generally prefer more flexibility.
- Sarah-jane (10/5): We didn’t see mounti Fuji but this place made our stay. Our family loved the host and his hot pot dinner! -
- Molly (10/5): Exceptional - Mac is the cutest and sweetest man. He made sure that we loved dinner, gave us an amazing itinerary and even had us leave with souvenirs ❤️
- Paul (9/5): Beautiful couples retreat in traditional Japanese room - Mac is a great host and provided daily tips based on our proposed activity. Normally this was done over the breakfast that was included (with vegetarian option). Loved the traditional style room and tatami matts and futon. Aircon was a saviour during the cold rainy nights to stay cosy and warm.
The view from our room included Mt Fuji on a clear day (as per photo). Location is extremely easy to get to, just take the bus to Hakonemachi-ko, get off at the end of the line and walk across the street. Just behind the bus station is the pirate ship dock. Far enough away from the hustle but with easy transport options to get around. The Hakone Free Pass made it even easier for the stay here. Eating options are limited for vegetarians. Mac did a vegetarian hot pot for our first dinner but it's between two people so no chicken for me Closest 7-Eleven was about 1km away. Water pressure can be a low and hot water sometimes ran out. No in-house laundry but there is a laundromat within a 5 min walk.
- Tony (9/5): The host and his lady offsider were excellent, the location was perfect right next to the Lake Ashi, we could walk every - The only problem was something ( maybe an animal ) which kept us awake at night.
- David (10/5): Our stay at Jemsty Inn was one of the highlights of our Japan trip and would not hesitate to recommend staying here. - Great location to Lake Ashi.
The host (Mac), and his staff were wonderful to deal with. Mac was very helpful with suggestions for navigating around the area. The evening meals were lovely and a highlight of our stay. Nil
- Hansi (8/5): I enjoyed our stay and it made exploring Hakone a lot more enjoyable! - The staff here are lovely - friendly, incredibly helpful and looked after us well. They made delicious foods for breakfast and dinner, and the convenient location (meals were served downstairs) made our short stay that much easier. The inn location is also very convenient - 5 minute walk from the main bus station and ferry port [where we caught the Hakone Pirate Ship]. We had no problems with wifi at the inn, had an air con/heater in the room and warm blankets for the cold days. The host taught us about Japanese customs [such as leaving our shoes downstairs before walking into the inn, having separate slippers for different parts of the house, etc.] which was interesting! The room was small for 3 people - as expected [it looks exactly like the pictures] - and a bit expensive [also as expected of all Hakone accommodations]. The dinners were also a bit expensive, which the host was very understanding about, and we managed to find options that worked within our budget. The meals were so fresh, healthy and delicious, so we considered these as part of our 'splurge' costs!
- Floria (10/5): Wonderful stay - It was a perfect location. The owner and staff were all very friendly. The owner spoke English well and took the time to discuss our itinerary for the area.
Please note this inn does have some restrictive guidelines such as when front doors will lock and the usual check in and check out time but it didn't bother me .
It's a small inn so just be respectful. I.e. not slamming doors, stepping quietly etc.
- Liel (10/5): Exceptional - A pleasant and wonderful place that we really recommend
Close to all the attraction and transportation. Mac, the host, is so kind and will help you with everything
Brakefast is great , we also recommend trying the hot pot in the hotel
:)
- Reanna (10/5): Perfect traditional, cosy and homely stay. - We loved our stay! It was so homely and cosy, just like being at your grandparents house. The hot breakfast in the mornings were delicious and the hosts checking in on your daily plans, giving you the best tips and tricks to make your itinerary just perfect. The hotpot for dinner is so delicious too! It was a great experience to stay somewhere more traditional with tatami floors and beds. I will definitely stay if I’m ever in Hakone again (and I really hope I am!) Nothing!
- Bing (5/5): Good location but poor facilities - Location It takes ages to get the hot water and hardly any WiFi.
- Andrea (9/5): Excellent! - Staff were excellent help even before arriving, they provide tips and help to get there and enjoy the town.
Very fun and nice, we enjoyed our stay greatly!
- Shlomo (9/5): Superb - The location was great
The host was so lovely and kind 10/10
- Sushan (8/5): Friendly staffs warm up our stay - The owner and staffs were very friendly and helpful. Located just opposite of Hakone Machi-ko where we board the sightseeing boat. During winter the hot water takes some time to run. The bathroom area will be cold. There is no convenient store nearby. The closest is 15mins walk away.
- St (9/5): Super convenient and a pleasant stay. - Fantastic location! Right across the street from the bus stop and pirate ship dock. Couldn't be more convenient. Very easy for using the Hakone Free Pass loop. The room was clean, quiet and big for Japan with 2 comfortable beds. The owner was interested in making sure I got the most out of my visit and gave me some very helpful recommendations. The only negative was that there was no heat in the bathroom and it was very cold, but maybe I just didn't find the switch. The rest of the room warmed up quickly. The street is very quiet with only a couple of choices for restaurants and it is hit or miss if they are open or not. There was an udon place just down the road that was open for dinner and it was one of the best bowls of udon I have ever had! There is a fridge in the lobby so I brought some 7 Eleven sushi for the next evening and then was able to save the leftovers for the next day.
- Ori (9/5): True authentic roykan and amazing owner - The owner was great, so nice and very helpful!! He even got up early for us in the last day so we can get early breakfast. It is a very small and cozy place and it feels like staying at your grandparents, a true roykan 🥰 We were a bit cold at night
- Trinidad (10/5): great location with a good host, would come back here again if I wanted to stay in hakone - Hospitality, location
- Phi (10/5): Exceptional - Owner Hattori-san is absolutely lovely very sweet, and speaks and jokes in English. He really puts his all into helping his guests with the Hakone area as it can be difficult to navigate, especially Hakonemachi in the afternoon.
- Hooi (10/5): Homey feel, satisfied with the stay experience. - The host and the staffs are very welcoming and friendly. Love their smiles! Nil
- Saif (5/5): not good - No breakfast was provided. Owner of this facility asking for extra money for breakfast Frankly speaking this place is okay to stay. not comfy and not recomend for a family atleast.
- Charlie (9/5): Quiet, local and great location! - The breakfast and general host was fantastic! the owner will make sure you get the most out of your trip in Hakone depending on where you're wanting to go.
They went out of their way to ensure we had the best route/plan for the day! The hot water for the shower could've been abit warmer but it's a fairly cold season so I can understand if it's not that consistent
- Suanling (9/5): Enjoyed my stay - Tasty Breakfast with variety - eggs were cooked very well
- Gregory (10/5): The proprietor is amazing! He is so helpful and accommodating! This is my second time here. I will return. -
- Anne (10/5): Great location and great value - This was the perfect spot to stay on our 2 day/ 1 night use of the Hakone Freepass. It is in Hakone-Machi and very close to the Pirate Ship dock. It's a 5 minute walk to the Hakone Checkpoint and a 20 minute walk to the Moto-Hakone Shrine. The inn keeper is a great host and his chicken hot pot dinners are generous and delicious. Great value for money and recommended.
- Julie (10/5): We enjoyed our 1 night stay in a traditional Japanese room. The owner was very helpful. We also enjoyed a lovely Chicken - A small hotel with friendly owner. -
- Rotem (8/5): Very good - Location was great (considering we wanted to start the trip from this side of the lake the next morning). Need to notice that there is no convenience store around, and most restaurants were closed. We did eat in a very nice places a few minutes from there. Could be more clean. The breakfast was pretty small and simple.
- Wen (7/5): Unique experience and great location - Great location for the sightseeing cruise, wonderful breakfast and dinner! Mac is super friendly and knowledgeable There wasn’t much space for luggage
- Kay (8/5): Very good -
- Nathan (8/5): Very good -
