Guest Reviews
- Hilary (10/5): - I just loved this hotel the friendliness of the welcome from staff, the food both dinner and breakfast and the location. I only stayed one night along the WAW trip but would stay again for sure and will recommend to friends.
- Sandra (10/5): - Hotel was nice with friendly staff. Food was good too.
- Trevor (6/5): - Evening meal was first class, but unfortunately the road noise was very loud,
- David (8/5): Comfortable basic hotel - Quite basic but comfortable hotel. My room was quite close to the road which wasn't ideal for a light sleeper. Didn't have the breakfast as I had to rush off. Generally good value.
- Robert (6/5): - No hot water , wifi not working , very noisy ! Not a restful stay ! Food was mediocre !
STAFF ARE GREAT but the general standard of the hotel is 2 star !
- John (4/5): - Interior needs updating
- Rachel (10/5): - We had such a lovely stay here. All the staff were so warm and friendly, it’s a great wee spot!
- Cheree (10/5): - Lovely hotel.. food was really good, had a very enjoyable stay.Staff helpful & friendly .
Would return
- Paul (8/5): - Well run property in need a bit of a spruce up, but a nice welcome and social staff.
- Maurice (8/5): - Friendly helpful staff and great breakfasts
- Mark (8/5): - The greatest assets of this place are its staff and its location in the sensational Ireland North West coast.
The room was comfortable and fit for purpose
- Jessica (10/5): - This hotel was absolutely beautiful and full of charm. The landscaping leading up to the property was stunning and set the tone for a lovely stay. Dinner at the hotel was delicious, and the rooms were very comfortable.
We also had a great time across the street at the bar, playing pool and enjoying the friendly local atmosphere. A wonderful experience from start to finish—highly recommend!
- Clifford (10/5): - Great hospitality - she put me in a nice quiet room away from the street and upgraded my bed.
- Maurice (8/5): - Quiet and a great base for sightseeing
- Laura (8/5): Local hotel with easy access to mountains/beaches - Lovely warm welcome. Great base to see the sights of Donegal. Close to amazing beaches. View onto the estuary a real bonus.
- MARIE (10/5): Quiet village hotel stay. - Relaxing stay in a quiet village hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Good food. Good location to visit areas of beautiful scenery.
- Andrew (8/5): - Ostan Loch Altan was an excellent place to rest on a looping, self-organized road trip through the hinterlands of County Donegal. The roadside inn is comfort, with spacious rooms (though the bed was on the soft side, so you felt a little like you were sinking toward the middle). Luckily, the hotel has its own pub, which serves dinner — Friday night was steak special night — and breakfast room, as the other pub across the street wasn’t serving food midweek in early November.
What stood out most, though, was the simple friendliness of the Ostan Loch Altan’s staff, who were uniformly kind and cheerful.
- Susan (10/5): - Great country hotel. a bit tired but comfortable room and bed and shower.
- Charles (10/5): - It’s where I stay when I’m in town
- Charles (8/5): - It’s the only place I stay at when I’m in the area.
- Tomi (8/5): - This is going to to be two very different reviews. When I first arrived they had me in a large room that was not very clean and had very dated furniture. After checking in around 1600 I took a quick nap on the incredibly hard bed but I was soon woken up by cupboards slamming and people talking very loudly in the room underneath mine. At first I thought I just had some noisy neighbors but the more I listened the more I realized they had put me in the room right above the kitchen. I called down to the front desk and confirmed that this noise would last until at least 2200 so I requested that they move me to a different room. I was able to move to a smaller room a bit down the hall which was actually very pleasant. The bed was still way too hard for my liking but I was at least able to get a good nights rest away from the earlier din downstairs. I'm giving my ratings above based on the second room, the breakfast provided, and the very helpful staff but I would like to very strongly suggest that the first room I was in be taken out of service for guests moving forward. There is no way anyone would be able to get a restful night of sleep there and putting guests in that room without giving notice of the noise issues diminishes your reputation as an premier hotel.
- Elaine (10/5): - Would highly recommend. A little gem with lovely staff. Would definitely stay again.
- Eileen (10/5): - Tasty Food & Friendly Helpful Staff stood out most for me during my 2 day stay at this cosy hotel.
Made very welcome on arrival even though I was late to check in and thankful the Chef was still on site as he made me fish & chips with real mushy peas. I was famished after long journey but that yummy meal made the wait so worth it.
Big 'Thank you' to all the lovely & accommodating staff that made my stay a very pleasant & comfortable one. Especially to the young lady on reception when I arrived at 9pm on 6th Sept - in all her multitasking she still managed to fit in going to kitchen to ask the chef if he could feed me, bring my case upstairs to my room so I could go straight to table, while remaining pleasant & efficient with all the asks of her in between and straight after 👏
My room was cosy, clean and catered perfectly for my needs - tea & coffee facilities in the room and toiletries in bathroom. Because another reviewer mentioned it, I wasn't surprised to find the room hot. Though my bones were loving the toasty room I do prefer it cooler when sleeping so just adjusted the rad to off and opened window. Bed was comfortable and I enjoyed an undisturbed nights sleep on both days.
I stayed at this hotel because it was accessible by bus & close to the Pier where I planned to get the Ferry to Tory Island - though I took taxi next morning to ensure I didn't miss it.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this homely hotel and hope I get the opportunity to return 😍.
- Dennis (6/5): - Hotel bit tired, staff very helpful
- Yvonne (10/5): - Very nice place a bit dated but very clean and staff excellent. Shower good strong flow , bed really comfortable and room clean. Breakfast was excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): Loved it - Great location, lots of parking, helpful staff, amazing breakfast, and reasonably priced
- Siobhan (10/5): - Fantastic staff
- Lynn (6/5): - The Ostán Lock Altan is good value for the money. It's also the bus stop for several bus services. Because I was on holiday, but did not rent a car, I found the hotel to be very convenient for me to make a bus connection to Dublin. My only disappointment was that the mattress in my room was the lumpiest I have ever slept on. I hope the hotel will replace the mattresses soon.
- graham (8/5): - I would stay again.Clean with good staff.
- Stacy (10/5): Ostan lach review - It was great! The staff were so welcoming and the service was amazing.
- Mrs Colette A (10/5): Lovely hotel - Great wee hotel in a lovely location. Staff were brilliant. Just one issue. We had a battered fish, very tough as if frozen? Complained but no reaction from kitchen. Otherwise, faultless. Thank you.
- John (10/5): Lovely stay - Very clean lovely staff will stay again
- ev (10/5): - liked the quiet location, clean rooms, the grocery store &gas station nearby. lots of free parking. didn't care for the wifi not working later on in the evening. might be because of the location. i'd stay here again
- robin (8/5): review - Hotel very busy with various parties, no hot water on arrival but was sorted out thought nobody told me.
Good food and excellent service.
Great value
- Paul (10/5): - Nice hotel , pleasant staff and lovely breakfast . Room very clean but needs an uplift .
- Petra (8/5): - Close to natural points of interest.
- Andrea (10/5): - Was looking for a quiet peaceful couple of days away. Couldn't have picked anywhere more perfect.
Staff were helpful and friendly.
Room was adequate.
Breakfast was amazing!
Definitely be back
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A basic accommodation -- property is clean, but quite dated (flashback to 1970-80s).
Very nice staff and tasty breakfast.
- Peter (10/5): - Happy smiling helpful staff greet you, comfortable clean, quiet & a stone throw from a choice of spectacular beaches, Falcarragh beach, 10min drive & very recommended for sunrise stroll
- John (6/5): - When we arrived we were given the key to our room only to discover that not only was it not ready but there were still items of clothing in it presumably from the previous guest. We were then given a different room but our intended room had a much nicer view. The food was not great and the emphasis seemed to be more on quantity rather than quality. The staff were pleasant and helpful but would probably do with some additional training and the kitchen
could do with some input from an expert and experienced chef. One other guest likened the hotel to Faulty Towers. In summary not a disaster but certainly could do with some improvement.
- Hamish (8/5): - Excellent place to stay very helpful staff
- MARIE (10/5): friendly and relaxing. - Conveniently located small hotel for touring beautiful North Donegal. It is situated within the village of Gortahork in a Gaeltacht area and its ambience is provision of a hub for the local people while catering to the passing trade of the many tourists visiting this area of stunning natural beauty. Staff are very helpful and food is lovely and reasonably priced. Great breakfast. The hotel does not have a pool or leisure centre.
- Adrian (10/5): - Great service, lovely friendly and helpful staff.
- Paul (10/5): Lovely Hotel - One night stay.
Extremely helpful and friendly staff and good food (probably the best fish and chips I've ever had!)
Would definitely recommend and stay again!
Thank you 😊
- Jefferson (8/5): - Clean, good restaurant, good breakfast.
- Karen (10/5): Lovely relaxing hotel with good honest food - Really friendly staff in a lovely hotel. Beautiful location for a relaxing stay. Food was good honest food for both buffet breakfast and dinner. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a 3 night stay
- Padraic (10/5): Great staff - I stayed for 2 nights recently, the room was comfortable the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Would recommend - Overall it was a pleasant stay, very friendly management and staff. Some renovations were completed, others still pending. Rooms could get new matresseses and a little bit upgrade.
- Mary (8/5): Welcoming - I was in a front room which was noisy as cars whisked by and on Thursday music was played so quite noisy as I was there for a quiet rest. Not having a lift is a disadvantage.
The position is excellent for touring. The staff friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were great. Hopefully I will get back.
- Timothy (10/5): - Excellent little hotel, very accommodating and friendly.
- Pat (10/5): Great and wonderful place ! - Excellent restaurant. Outstanding service. Very comfortable lobby and common areas for relaxing. The hotel has scheduled musicians who play traditional Irish music, which is awesome ! Back to the restaurant , the breakfast is outstanding , I complemented the cook and wait staff personally. They also have very energetic staff who are eager to please the guests and make them feel welcome and comfortable.
- Mura (10/5): - Great staff.Very friendly and helpful.
- Gillian (10/5): Lovely one night stay - Very clean and comfortable bed. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. I enjoyed my stay.
- Charlotte (6/5): - The accommodation was fine it was clean and comfortable. There was no evening food available as they didn't have a chef which wasn't mentioned when booking. There was a bar restaurant nearby which was not very good, the food wasn't nice 😕. The hotel was convenient but not near any good restaurants, overall our stay was average.
- mary (8/5): lovely loch altan hotel - nice staff, clean rooms, good breakfast.
- Gerard (8/5): Ideal location to explore North Donegal - Exceptional, friendly & helpful staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - X
- Peter (8/5): Good value for the price - Very helpful staff.
Hotel clean but could do with some updating.
Good value, though.
- Kathleen (8/5): - Lovely hotel. Staff excellent. It’s in a great location to travel around donegal. Room was very clean. Would stay there again
- Verified traveler (10/5): Worth Staying For The Power Shower Alone! - Covid measures in place throughout hotel.
Bar food and breakfast both very nice.
Fantastic power shower in room!
- Alan (10/5): Family holiday - I had a very enjoyable stay here. Beautiful clean bedrooms, staff very helpful and fab breakfast
- A D (10/5): Relaxing stay. - Very comfortable 3 star hotel, very friendly staff and very good food. The hotel is situated in a lovely little village ,close to very good beaches and beautiful scenery.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staggered stay was excellent. The staff the most friendly I have met working in a hotel. They always went the extra mile to ensure all was good and that I was cared for. Meals were excellent and reasonably priced and the guinness too nice for my rate of consumption. Breakfasts were nice and quantifiable. Nothing bad to say at all.
