- Eveline (10/5): -
- Leanne (1/5): Kiwis OE - Nothing We arrived and were told the restaurant was closed till March and that was a big reason for booking. The room also didn't have the facilities mentioned on the site and the room was small with little room to put all our luggage.
We did not stay here and found something nearby that was of a much higher standard and had a restaurant.
Fortunately the cancellation fee was waived.
- Morten (2/5): - No welcome, no information, restaurant was closed with no suggestions of where to go. No messages were replied to until I cancelled. Extremely poor service Nice spot
- Robert (5/5): Disappointing - Beautiful location. Two great staff members running the hotel. We had been so looking forward to staying here especially because it was off the beaten track but had a highly rated restaurant on site so that we wouldn’t have to drive back up the winding road into Begur to eat.
Sadly, when we arrived, we discovered the restaurant had been closed without us being informed. Other guests were as upset about this as we were.
It seems that some changes have taken place at the hotel which have resulted in an exodus of staff. This also meant that there was no proper outdoor lighting in the evenings resulting in the outdoor area being quite difficult to negotiate and giving the hotel an eerie vibe.
The two staff members still on site in the mornings/early afternoon are doing an awesome job with breakfast and room cleaning.
This seems extra sad when you read previous reviews about the hotel.

- jean paul (9/5): HOTEL TRES BIEN PLACE ET TRES CALME - TRES BONS PRODUITS SERVI DANS UN JARDIN RIEN
- Margarida (10/5): Muito muito bom - Simpatia dos funcionárias , localização , pequeno almoço , entorno , terraço , conforto Quarto demasiado pequeno
- Miriam (10/5): -
- Jessica (9/5): Great location and fabulous friendly staff. - Staff so nice and friendly. Great location just on the beach. Restaurant was great. Room a little noisy, could hear guests/staff/general noise from the restaurant.

- Esteve (10/5): -

- Peter (9/5): Delightful - Wonderful location
- David (10/5): Great hotel and restaurant in a stunning location - Beautiful location and the rooms had a great aspect with windows overlooking the hillside, we were woken up every morning with the birds singing. We also enjoyed the outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. The rooms are small, but this did not really matter
- Johanne (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location and wonderful service. We felt at home from the minute we arrived. We’ll definitely come back, and highly recommend this place. No complaints
- Lesley (9/5): Great hotel, wonderful breakfast - Fantastic location. Very peaceful. Excellent walking from the hotel. Beautiful coastal paths. The only complaint was that there was no free tea to drink! A small complaint.
- tombirner (10/5): Excellent location/staff and good value as well :) - Had a wonderful time here. Beautiful location right on the water. Staff all were excellent. Super friendly and charming and professional. Good wifi throughout the hotel and even on the beach.
I'm sad to be leaving but hope to be back someday.
- Piergiorgio (10/5): Great - Very beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. We felt on holiday from the very first moment we stepped in the charming courtyard.
The hotel is very quiet with sea view from the garden. The staff was very kind and helpful. The breakfast was great and the restaurant is the best!
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Oscar (10/5): Great staff and wonderful views - The staff was really kind and helpful. The food is delicious and the views from the upstairs terrace are stunning
- Alexandre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Patrick (10/5): Hidden Gem - What a hidden gem! Simple luxury in a gorgeous part of the costa brava, tucked away for privacy. The restaurant food was divine and the service warm and friendly. Will always try to book here when we come back. Thanks to Oscar and team for a lovely experience and sharing their little stretch of spain
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - A wonderful little hotel near the sea. Very good restaurant. Hospitable and attentive owner. I recommend a holiday here.
- Tiktin (10/5): A little jewel in this world - Personable, quaint
- Mina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): A perfect, peaceful, getaway from it all in a beautiful location to match - It is perfect here, lovely, helpful, cheerful staff; nice quiet rooms, terrific food and a wonderful atmosphere of both privacy and cordiality with other guests. One of the best things is the two minute walk to the beach, which means you can keeping popping back when ever you wish. This hostal has a very relaxed, summery atmosphere of understated elegance. We were very happy here indeed. Directors chairs are never the most comfortable and given it is lovely to linger here, both on the guests’ terrace and over a wonderful meal, something more comfortable would make everything perfect.
- Stefanie (10/5): My favourite stay of our holiday! - We had such a wonderful stay. This place is a true gem, situated within easy walking distance of different beautiful beaches, a simple but luxurious set up with each room having everything you need for a really comfortable and relaxing stay. The rooms also sit above (this is no issue for noise etc) the most beautiful restaurant, we had some of the most delicious meals and to be honest would have eaten there every night if it wasn’t closed on Tuesdays! Everything was absolutely spot on. Thanks for having us Oscar and for being so friendly and welcoming, you have also chosen all your staff very well as they all do an amazing job and reflect this friendly and welcoming culture. Thanks so much for having us, and we hope it won’t be too long before we can come back! Nothing. Loved everything about it.
- Peter (10/5): Perfect Location for a quiet and chilled few days - The Owner Oscar is the perfect host. And his restaurant is fantastic Nothing
- Jet29730142772 (10/5): What a treat! - We stayed in September and the hotel was just magical. Perfect view from the terrace and located along the nicest part of the Cami de Ronda. Oscar and his team really looked after us. They have really thought of everything.
There were only 5 rooms which were simply decorated but have everything you need and it’s very peaceful at night. The restaurant food was outstanding and the setting under the trees with the fairy lights was so lovely. Other restaurants and night life are a short drive away. We visited Begur, Pals, Cadaques and Aigua Blava and always commented on how nice it was to return to our peaceful hotel right by the water, away from the crowds. We had no issues with parking but did feel a car was essential to explore the beautiful surroundings.
A really special hidden gem.
- Luís (9/5): Superb -
- Theresa (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful boutique hotel right by the most gorgeous cove with walking trails up the cliffs on either side. The food at the restaurant was delicious, as was breakfast every morning. Oscar also helped us find a place to rent kayaks in another nearby town (we went in October so things were a bit closed up for the season in Begur) even though it was his day off. I wish I could have spent more time, it was magical! Nothing!
- Anonymous (10/5): Relaxing hotel in nice location. - We enjoyed our stay. Rascasa is not oozing luxury, however they get the important things 100% right. The building suits the relax location close to the water as does the decor. The beds are comfy, the pillows are nice, the towels are big and soft, and the shower is very good. The room is well laid out and easy to store your belongings. The window is screened which is great as there are mozzies. There is lots of places around to sit and relax. Oscar and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant down in the garden was also very nice we ate there 2 nights and enjoyed most of the dishes. The village of Begur is also lovely and there are more dining options there about 3 kilometres drive.
- Karl (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adrian (10/5): Small hotel with stunning views. Costa Brava at its best. - Really fantastic small hostal in a (generally) quiet cove. Easy access to the sea and walks. Really good (high quality but not cheap) restaurant on site. Friendly non-intrusive staff. Highly recommended.
- Jane (10/5): We didn’t want to leave - Stunning location, quiet, lovely food, helpful friendly staff Nothing
- Iain (10/5): One of the best places ever. Such a lovely escape. Thanks to Oscar and the team. Absolutely fabulous. - Quiet romantic understated but tasteful
- wodger706 (10/5): TOTALLY MAGICAL RESTAURANT - Utterly Magical. Probably the most romantic, delightful and charming restaurant we've ever been to. Beautiful trees who's canopies are draped with fairy lights, I could go on and on about this lovely place. The service was friendly and perfect. The food was cooked beautifully. It was a just totally wonderful. We are hoping to go again on our last night here in Begur but have to wait for a phone call from the owner to know if there will be a table available. A reservation is a must with good reason! It's fabulous! :)

- Simon (10/5): A great find. - Location fantastic. Breakfast was adequate. Possible Brits would have expected something a little more substantial but we were in Spain so as a continental breakfast, very enjoyable. Oscar and his staff were a delight - all of them without exception. This place I assume is only 2 star because of a facility tick list from the local tourist board. Don't be fooled, the quality of facilities offered is fantastic. Just because it didn't have a gym, pool, spa, and the other stuff that has to go in a big hotel. 5 rooms above a restaurant in a little cove! No wonder the people in the know keep it a secret. We will return and sample more of the host Oscar's wine and food knowledge. A multi lingual lovely host. We WILL return next year (if we can get a slot). We liked it all. Perhaps somewhere to lay if the beach beds were taken. Even that was our fault. We should have gone the 50 meters to the beach and got beds before 10.30. The time we did- no problem
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- 871alasdairf (10/5): Amazing, secluded 5 room hotel in hidden cove - This has to be one of the most magical small hotels I've ever stayed in. With just 5 rooms above a top notch restaurant, its location overlooking stunning secluded cove is second to none if you want a chilled break.
The rooms are very stylish yet simple and all the staff are super friendly - especially Oscar the owner who is clearly passionate about his property and business. The food is also superb - can highly recommend booking one of the tables on the hillside overlooking the azure blue bay.
- Laura (9/5): Superb -
- Selina (10/5): perfect hideaway - everything! great location, very friendly staff and very good food (we had both breakfast and dinner).
- Christian (10/5): Exceptional - close to the beach
restaurant
- Roger (10/5): relaxing - small, comfortable property with only 5 hotel rooms, situated in a secluded cove on the Costa Brava
- Antonio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janis (10/5): warm welcome from the owner. simple rustic room in a lovely location. very comfortable with a sunny terrace overloo - a stunning location in the centre of a forest
amazing view of a beautiful rocky bay nothing

- sallyf156 (10/5): Great food and service - We had a couple of lovely lunches here. Great menu and skilfully cooked dishes. Friendly, accommodating staff and pleasant surroundings. You will definitely need to book during the summer months. We’re looking forward to returning soon!
- reasonandpurpose (10/5): The very definition of CHARMING! - Hostal Sa Rascassa is really in a class all its own. Oscar and Merche (the owners) were in touch with me as soon as I booked the room to verify some dates and dinner plans. They have created a really special and wonderful place!
The hotel sits steps away from the cove, so you can hear the ocean at night. It's also steps away from the Cami De Ronda, which you can walk for MILES from town to town Sa Tuna is a short walk, which I think is also the closest accessible "beach" you'd go to - the beach in front of Hostal Sa Rascassa seems more like it's a place where you'd launch a kayak or a small boat, not where you'd sit out and get some sun.
The rooms open up to a deck with common space, and there are only 5 or 6 rooms, so you get to interact with your fellow guests which is a really nice communal experience. Check in is easy, with your name on a little chalk board outside of the room - like I said...charming. The beds were very comfortable, and exactly what we needed after a day of hiking the Cami de Ronda.
Dinner is good - although I should say that if you are vegetarian, you have limited options. However, they were happy to modify and accommodate, which was great! The food is fresh and cooked to order, which is awesome. But let's talk about breakfast...AWESOME. Breakfast is included in the cost of the hotel, and it puts other complementary breakfasts to shame. There are fresh eggs, toast, fruit, and they'll even make a latte for you. AND they have oat milk!
Hostal Sa Rascassa was a great place to spend a few days. If you're visiting Barcelona, I would definitely recommend heading north and relaxing here for a day or two...get a break from the big city. This was also a great home base for our daylong trip up to the French border, and then over to Girona. All in all, this was one of our favorite places we stayed.
Thank you Oscar and Merche for creating something so special!
- NinaRouxRoux (10/5): incredible. - This was one of my best meals and memories of my recent trip to Spain. Cannot recommend enough. Incredible atmosphere and food (got the tomato and burrata salad, grilled fish, lovely wine.
Do the hike to Sa Tuna after lunch!
- MikkaSwissCheese (10/5): A magnificent place - This Is The charming spanish Hotel. This place is a true gem and delight. Nestled in a beautiful garden among trees, with a terrace overlooking the cove. The restaurant serves some of the best truly spanish food. The unique ambience of Sa Rascassa is only amplified by the very personal attention of the lovely owner who makes sure everyone feels comfortable and happy. He is a passionate, honest person who puts his heart into this place, which can be felt. Hotel rooms are simple but cozy furnished. Very clean. Comfortable beds. All the amenities you need for free available. Although, a small fridge is missing. Every room has a sitting area with table outside. Public parking for €3/day available. Overall, a truly beautiful experience.
- 91anthonyw (10/5): A truly magical place. - We loved everything: the setting, the location, the food, the decor, the plates and dishes, the ambience, the owners and their staff.
We really must stay in the hotel the next time we come.I think that it would be very relaxing.
- sophier556 (10/5): The best restaurant on the Costa Brava - We have dined at Sa Rascassa with our family for the past 16 years and it gets better with every visit. It is a beautiful setting with a sophisticated atmosphere. It is a welcome respite from the rush and chaos of many local restaurants, with a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. The tables are spaced well apart and the gentle glow of lamps at the tables and fairy lights in the trees add to the magical atmosphere. Olives, crisps and a delicious cocktail shot are delivered to the table whilst one peruses the carefully curated menu and wine list. The fresh fish is superb, my husband’s steak was sublime and the chocolate stones for pudding are a must. We are very much looking forward to returning again next year!
- MichielJ981 (10/5): Great place, great food, nice and quiet. - We stayed for 5 night at the hostal Sa Rascassa. Great place, great rooms and excellent food. Staff are all very friendly. The owner Oscar, the lady who served the extensive breakfast, the waiters serving dinner at the restaurant and the cleaning lady, all were all really friendly. The rooms are very efficiently designed with a great shower. There is a very cosy resting area in the shade of the pines for the hostal guests overseeing the little bay where you can swim and snorkel. A nice beachbar serves drinks and food.
The food, lots of fresh fish, at the restaurant was great and the whole atmosphere really idyllic. The whole place is civilized and quite, which is kind of a rarity at the Costa Brava coast. We had a really great time!!
- jlb464 (10/5): A gem - I first heard about Hostal Sa Rascassa through a rave restaurant review, and realized upon further research that it was also a great place to stay. We were not disappointed. I can't imagine a better value in the area. The rooms are simple but clean, airy, and classy. You can't help but unwind in the idyllic setting by the sea. The restaurant is similarly fantastic. The included breakfast is wonderful, as are the lunch/dinner options. Meals are served in a beautiful, romantic outdoor patio area. The owner and staff are helpful and friendly. Highly recommend! One travel tip for the area if you've never been - don't try to "wing" your activities. Everything (restaurants, wineries, activities) requires advanced reservations. However, if you are into hiking, reading and sipping wine by the Mediterranean, and you are staying at Sa Rascassa which will accommodate you for dinner each night, you'll have nothing to worry about.
- jawright62 (6/5): Lunch - Rocket salad, lovely
John Dory, cooked perfectly
Recuit with honey, beautiful
Only negatives: cracked plate and a cracked tea cup.
I know the local terracotta glazed pottery is fragile, but cracks are not hygienic
Lovely garden in the shade of plane trees
- nickwG7417GG (10/5): Excellent - Sa Rascassa came recommended from a colleague. A good choice. It is a truly delightful restaurant. Smart. Hushed. And serving delicious food. I had organic tomatoes for starter and grilled pork for main, both utterly delicious. My wife and children shared a grilled John Dory that was perfectly cooked. And an interesting and reasonably priced wine list too.. Overall a great meal in a wonderful setting. Thoroughly recommended..
- CJ1870 (10/5): Excellent despite how busy they were - Excellent food - amazing John Dory cooked to perfection following clams and warm bread. Service was great and friendly smiles all ‘round. Just a 15 minute walk from our house at Sa Tuna along the coastal path - starry and moonlit views to add to the experience.
- ManningW (10/5): Garden by the Sea - We’ve been having dinners here for many years and it never disappoints. This time we had the secreto de lomo and the tuna. Perfectly prepared! Such a charming place, with excellent service. Look forward to going back soon.
- nfr8201 (10/5): A Gem - Elegantly simple, comfortable, clean and charming. Oscar and his team do an amazing job. The location is perfect, right on the Cala d’Aiguafreda cove, with a rocky beach and clear, blue water, and a short, beautiful walk to Sa Tuna. The hotel restaurant and the more casual beach restaurant are both a treat. I can’t wait to visit again.
- MonPeach (10/5): Incredible - We absolutely loved your stay at this little hotel. The bays on either side are touristy and crass. Yet Oscar found this place and made it ideal for our travels. It is quiet, with no noisy bars and restaurants at night. The little beach in front brings some day tourists but it was not at all over crowded. You can easily walk to the neighbouring Sa Tuna or a longer walk to Sa Reviera if you want resorts and family restaurants.
The restaurant here at this hotel was excellent, miles ahead of the bulk catering next door. The food was exceptional with Oscar taking orders and directing the staff along the way. This place was a massive highlight on our trim. The rooms are neat and simple, but you don't need more since there is so much to do and explore. The breakfast is generous and the coffee is great.
- jacko2018traveller (10/5): Loved this hotel - Stayed for one night in this small hotel. The owner, Oscar, was super friendly from the minute we arrived and made our stay amazing. It is only a minutes walk to the water and a short pretty coastal walk away from Sa Tuna beach. The restaurant setting at the front is beautiful and the food was excellent. There are only a few rooms in the hotel which are at the back of the property and are very peaceful. Highly recommend.
